Ours is a restless, rushed society. We struggle to fit as much in as we can, and many of us rarely pause for reflection. Perhaps the same is true of our spiritual lives. We can so easily feel that our walk with the Lord is just one extra thing to squeeze into our crowded days and weeks.
In the Psalms, David tells us, ‘Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him’. These devotions are intended to help you do just that. They are all short, focusing on just a verse or two, with a break in the middle for reflection. So why not pause your busy day and spend some time with God, to rest in his presence, and delight in his smile upon you.
This is a heartwarming look at four Psalms. Matt understands both how the Psalms work, and the heart. This makes for a very honest and encouraging set of devotions. I love the pauses that he puts in each day, and the way Matt looks at the world, life and the glorious gospel. A great set of 40 devotions
“Be Still” by Matt Searles is a devotional based on some of the best loved Psalms in Scripture. This book offers us an invitation to pause, be still, and reflect, taking time to linger with God in the midst of harried days.
Each devotional features short sections focusing on a few verses at a time with a middle section for reflection. The purposefully chosen Scriptures include Psalms 16, 27, 34, and 147.
This is a devotional to be picked up at most any time, no matter how busy you are or the need you face, as the words of these psalms quench our thirst for God’s life-giving words.
By reading God’s Word alongside these reflections, our souls are fueled by His promises of preservation, protection, and peace. The words of this devotional—paired alongside these Psalms—draw our souls into the depths of God’s compassion and kindness.
Highlights:
“Time with the Lord is not one more item on our 'to do' list, but rather a gift from God, the refreshment that our weary souls so desperately need.”
“These words foster our dependence on God. They remind us that we can't do life on our own.”
“David’s confidence is not based on circumstances, but on the character of God.”
“Whatever the next few weeks and months of our lives may hold, God will show us his goodness. We’ll know life, breath, and a thousand other blessings, all of them tokens of a God who will never stop doing us good. Every day we can see his goodness, because every day he’ll give us himself.”
“How we need to rid ourselves of the idea that Christians are those with no struggles”
Thank you to the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily and was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Comforting, fresh and well written. Would recommend for new Christians and for those further along in their journey. Written in bitesize sections which means you don't feel overwhelmed with information, but able to ponder each reflection.
A book fo devotional thoughts on just a copule of Psalms. Great to slow down and chew over one or two verses at a time rather than reading whole chunks. It did me good.
Really helpful devotional that looks at 4 Psalms a verse or two at a time. Reminding us of the glories of the God we worship and how that should impact our hearts and hopes.
This little book has been such a blessing to me over the past few months. Short, clear Jesus centered devotions that I've loved dipping in and out of over breakfast. Super accessible and just a delightful reminder of the immeasurable love God has for us. Loved it!!!
