AN UNSYMPATHETIC CLIENT.

Criminal defense attorney Mitch Turner is tempted to turn down the most recent case that walks through his door because the prospective client, Candy Carlisle, sends out all the wrong vibes. He decides to take it, though, because he is concerned about Candy’s children.

The case has issues right from the beginning, and so does Candy.

A MANIPULATIVE CLIENT.

Mitch is not the first attorney on the case. The previous lawyer is only too happy to let him take over. Every time he thinks he knows something about Candy, he learns something new that makes him reassess. The former attorney was afraid of Candy, and Mitch starts to believe those fears are justified.

Candy also swears she didn’t kill her husband while their children slept upstairs, but the physical evidence says otherwise.

AN INNOCENT CLIENT?

The further Mitch digs, the more he dislikes his client, but he also becomes increasingly convinced Candy is innocent.

Proving it is going to be tough.

Is Mitch up for the task? Can he find the actual perpetrator to save Candy’s children from having to see their mother go to prison? Can he put his feelings about Candy to the side in his search for justice?

Some interesting characters. Plot mainly interesting. But lots of careless errors and seems to be hastily written. Supposedly Mitch takes on a case because he’s concerned about accused murderer’s kids. But kids are barely mentioned. And why does no one ask the reason this mother doesn’t run upstairs to make sure her kids are OK after she finds her husband murdered. Also the evidence against her is so flimsy, especially at first, it’s hard to believe she was charged. And do any lawyers suspect almost everyone who has anything to do with the victim as a possible murderer. Surely this could have been handled better.

Good story , needs proofreading

The story was interesting and well told. Several places in the book used one character's name when it was obvious the reference was to another. Processing th II s and figuring out which character the author meant did interrupt the flow for this reader.

Good but several glaring mistakes I don’t think typos because it was wrong character’s name used is this an editing mistake or something else? Odd

was author going for thriller or romance

I was disappointed with this book. It was too much Barbara and a lot of distractions on her behalf. This book was too predictable. I mean who couldn’t guess that the man Barbara was seeing wasn’t going to be somewhat involved in some sort of scandal so Mitch and Barbara could rekindle their relationship. I mean why go through the motions of setting up that scenario? I also was disappointed that Mitch didn’t show more compassion for Ellie. She needed his support and empathy not flowers. He should’ve planned to spend some time with her, show he had her back no matter what. She needed him during her difficult time. All Mitch mind was on was Barbara, because whenever she called he was there directly or indirectly. I can say Mitch is very thick-skin, doesn’t seem like nothing can penetrate his emotions or feelings. I like that about him. Winston is a valuable asset to have on your side.

this was very interesting and intriguing.

As I read this book though I found many typos. It was a book that you won’t want to put down. As Mitch keeps coming up against walls at every turn once you feel like something will break open or someone will slip up. Mitch keeps his nose to ground and with his investigator Winston they continue to follow each and every clue. Sometimes I do feel it ends too soon.
Keep reading I think you will enjoy this book.

Not in this case.

I read every legal thriller I can find and fund. Most are entertaining but not truly engaging. That is not the case with this book. I liked Mitch's character and his narrative as the case progressed. Although I usually figure out the outcome long before it is revealed, not in this case. It usually takes me a couple of days to complete a novel. Not in this case, this one flew by in a day and a half. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Dan Decker.

Great series, but too many errors

I really like the Mitch Turner series. However, the proofreading needs to be improved. Throughout the series there are incorrect character references, or time/date references, or duplications or words or phrases.

I look forward to reading the Next book.

Like this author, dislike grammar issues

The story was very interesting although convoluted. The use of "gonna" (MANY times) by highly educated people was very off putting. If it had been a kid or gang member it would have seemed appropriate, but a lawyer and his designer client? The use of "dunno" was just poor language. It was so annoying it took away from the story.

Interesting and well-written

The author is creative and well- informed about legal and criminal cases. At times, I was unable to maintain high interest because of wordiness. Perhaps someone did not realize that too much information can be overwhelming to a reader. However, at the age of 84...perhaps I was just impatient!

Good legal fiction

The truth wins out finally after many twists and turns from poker games to dealing drugs, to murder. Mitch Turner has difficulty finding the truth as he defends a difficult client.

A circuitous mystery leading to an unexpected conclusion

The author leads you down the garden path constantly expecting a different outcome, and all of a sudden everything falls into place.

I started out liking the character and being intrigued by the handling of the homicide, but it really bogged down, then became increasingly muddled. I doubt that I will read any more books by this author - he needs to be more taut!

Review of The Presumption

Great story, very believable and very timely, given the State of our Judiciary System. The author understands the Politics involved in the process and how much Human Emotion can make or break a case.

A.lot of subplots

Dan Decker is a great story teller. His subplots usually fit the primary subject pretty well. I enjoyed the stories of winston, Barbara and that the poker club boys but occasionally I wanted to turn the page a little before reading every word.

The presumption

Another rambling tour down the legal mystery road with a lot of diversion thrown in just enough to confuse but keep you interested. The main man is egotistical as they come, yet wins out in spite of himself.

Easy mystery

This is my third book of Dan Deckers to read this month. I find his writing very easy to read and the plots interesting. Characters are also easy to format in your mind. On to my fourth book!

Like the series.

Mitch Turner is likable and smart. Particularly like Winston. I wish Mitch was a little more able to comfort Elise.
But, Dan, you need to get a better proofer. Many mistakes on character names.

An interesting story line that definitely grasped my attention however I lost interest in the writing itself and the lack of proofreading, a book full of errors/typos and it got quite frustrating by the third book!
