Icing on the Curse

Rate this book
Welcome to Spellford Cove, where the baking is sweet and the witches are wild.

Something strange is going on in Spellford Cove. No one is acting quite as they should, and Robin is starting to think there might be some sort of dark magic involved.

And with her new employee she knows to be working for her biological father, Robin puts a plan in place that will hopefully stop him from being able to find her.

Will Robin be able to overcome the dark magic at work, or will she find herself a few layers short of a full cake?

Good story but...

This is a great story but it is somewhat ruined by the constant switching of the wrong name (Emma and Elsa) in the story line.

very poor editing

The storyline itself was good. But with each book in the series Silver gets lazier about remembering details. She keeps mixing Emma and Elsa up. Ex: Elsa gets in the cab with the potion leaving Emma and Robin in the bakery and they start talking. This means Emma is talking and she says “Emma and I” when it should have been “Elsa and I”. She also forgets the twins’ mom is Heather because she’ll often have one of them say “aunt Heather” when it should be “mom”… she often forgets timelines. Like Hunter was going out of town the next day but somehow it’s lost in the story. Indi is who works at the steam room but in one of the books (2nd) she forgets and calls her Jennifer. She really needs a great ARC program to help her catch all of these mistakes that take away from the story. I do this for many authors so that these things don’t happen.

ANOTHER GREAT INSTALLMENT FROM THE SPELLFORD COVE SERIES!

I remember finishing book 4 - With a Charm on top, and not possibly being able to move onto something else until I had read book 5 - oh my goodness, 100% worth it!

So in this one we tackle an issue that is brought to light within the last paragraph of book #4. Aside from that, Robin and her cousins are noticing how people in town are acting strangely and can't work out why. So they band together again to try and work out what's going on.

The thing we were dealing with at the end of book #4 (I'll just call it 'the Sean thing') developed wonderfully and concluded better than I thought.
William Sgakespaw is beautiful and as dry witted as ever! Love him!
The mystery was different for sure, but I felt like it took me out of the usual expectations with a cozy mystery. For that alone I am deducting a star.

Fantastic book, brilliantly written series.

4 Stars!

Another solid installation in the series.

I liked how this book didn't feature a murder, but a demon.
Even if the likeness to a virus was rather creative (and clearly inspired by the pandemic) the recurring use of "infected" instead of "possessed" bothered me - just a tiny, tiny bit.

In many ways the whole personality swapping reminded me of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode. It was fun!

Another thing that was fun: The food fights!

A Decent Storyline

This book had a decent storyline, but there were a ton of errors. She kept mixing up the characters of Elsa and Emma especially towards the end. It was like she was interchanging them and it got confusing. There were quite a few grammatical errors that bugged me also. Either way I will read the last book.

Loving this fun and entertaining series👍😍

I really enjoyed the concept of this book: a demon you can't see changing people's personalities and using deduction and old fashioned logic plus a bit of magic to bring things to a positive fruition. I also enjoyed the learning that happened between cousins, learning to trust one another and work together to come to a great conclusion. Overall, just one great read. Loved it. 💘

More errors

It's about time Silver got an editor who could accurately correct her manuscripts. She's either not bothering or using a subpar service.

Jennifer at The Steam Room is suddenly called Indi. There's multiple references to past events that are littered with errors. The timeline jumps around all over the place. It makes for a disjointed read.

References to things like kilometres being used everywhere except the US are patently wrong and show a complete lack of research.

Disappointing and too far-fetched to hold up; it's so banal I can't even be bothered to precis the storyline anymore.

Honestly, I'd give this book 3.5 stars. The story itself was good. The added character was interesting. I loved the fact it was a mystery. No dead body, just a nice mystery.

I have read the first four books in this series. This one needed a better editor. The author mixed up characters DURING conversations. A cure was a teaspoon of potion, then, it became a tablespoon of the potion and once again became a teaspoon.

She had characters with someone else's traits. One girl wanted to know about a fight between her mom and aunt Heather. Well, her mom is Heather and her aunt has been dead since the series started.

I had to reread several parts of this book to figure out what was going on, and who was talking to who. A good editor would have caught all these mistakes.

This continues to be a very good series. This is the 5th book in the series. The mystery surrounding her father gets more dangerous. Robin's strange ability to be in her father's mind during her dreams continues to be very creepy but she does get warnings of his more bizarre actions and the potential dangers that will confront her. More deaths and more mysteries are solved. I enjoyed the book and the development of the characters. Definitely a cliffhanger at the end but I am anxious to read the next book!

Easy read;nice cozy paranormal mystery

So Robin’s story is culminating I think & hopefully we’ll get the showdown I’m sure we’re all craving in the next book.

I read it in one sitting as these books are light, easy to read and fun paranormal cozy mysteries.

Read in order so you’re clues in to everything that’s going on.

I took one star away as there were some plot errors in the book which will be in my notes on Good Reads but it didn’t bother me enough to stop reading. I just had to double back once or twice as characters that weren’t in the scene were talking and a reference was made in error about Aunt Heather & Jackie.

Other than that it’s a fun series and a great light read.

entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Robin is a young woman who lives in a small West Coast town and owns a small bakery. A few months back she found out that she was adopted and her biological mother passed away and left her this bakery. She moved back to the small town where she met her grandmother and aunt and a couple of cousins. They are all witches as well. It seems there is always something going on in Stafford Cove and Robin and her family and friends always seem to be neck deep in it or in solving it. Read on and find out what happens in this story. Very entertaining and a fun read. Check it out

Icing on the Curse

Each book in this series leaves you wanting more. Robin is a powerful witch that has problems casting spells. Her biological father wants her power. She has just used witchcraft in front of her boyfriend to keep him from being killed. The man her father sent to kidnap her has been stabbed and sent back to her father with the message of his impending death. I am anxious for the next book of the series to be released.

The story line gets better with each book, while the editing gets worse. There were lots of errors in the plot line in chapters 13 and 14. Emma and Elsa keep getting swapped. Hunter's name is in lowercase near the end. And smart quotes (proper curling of quotation marks and apostrophes) continues to be a problem. It is frustrating. I'm invested in the characters, so I'll keep reading. But for the love, get an editor!

Unmentionable Mystery
Something strange is going on in Spellford Cove. No one is acting quite as they should, and Robin is starting to think there might be some sort of dark magic involved.
This is an unmentionable reason for the crime of people who are affected by a demon.
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Much better at not being predictable on who had the demon attached to them. I was concerned for a lot of the book that the author wasn't even trying to make it a surprise, but there was a nice little twist in there. Also making moves towards wrapping up Antonio instead of letting it drag on is nice.
Also the new employee spin was predictable 2 books ago when they put the border up to keep Antonio out. Let alone when he said he had spies.

Icing on the Curse (Spell ford Cove Mystery book 5 by Samantha Silver

This was another winner. Wow to have a demon and to anyone who sees him gets either better or gets mean. So glad it is only fiction. Except lately it seems true with covid. I highly recommend all her books to all who love witch stories. Diana Romano

Another Amazing story

I love reading about Robin and her cousins. Learning to be a witch is hard enough, but throw in her crazy bio- dad makes things even harder. You can't miss reading anything by Samantha Silver. Her stories draw you in from the first page to the last page and leave anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

Wow!!

I would review every book in this series but I'm afraid to give anything away!!! I will say this: start with the first book "The Witching Flour". I guess you could start anywhere, but then you'll miss the back stories. Each book builds on the previous and draws you in to read the next one! Enjoy!! These are good!!

Good but robin is wrong for letting her cousin 😕 keep sleeping with the enemy. She would be pissed I would be pissed 😤 plus Robin is turning into a liar in this book. 😒 Her cousins are awesome why is she acting stupid 🤔 demons 😈 and her messed up dad.. One thing I didn't understand was robin can do lots of amazing spells but can't heal someone or herself I find this really stupid 😒

Good series.

This a good series about Robin finding out she has family and is a witch. She is growing into her roles. The plot and subplots move quickly and the characters continue to grow and develop. I can't wait for the next book!

fantastic

This story line is fantastic. It’s fast paced and hard to put the book down. And just when I thought it’d get predictable, the author managed to surprise me even more. So good!!

The bakery story continues

Resorting to fist-ta-cuffs? How mundane. Aww well it moved the story along.

Question; why does Amazon require so many words for review when less could be more. I like succinct.

Confusing

I am really confused how the author can make so many mistakes and also getting the twins names mixed up alot and a tsp and tbs switched back and forth. Very amateur writing.
