Alpha Compound #2

Wake Up, Alpha

Rate this book
Pen
I’ve seen firsthand the monsters that men turn into when they’re hit with the virus. I’ve been at their bedside in the ER when the Task Force comes and hauls them away. I’ve heard the stories of women getting kidnapped right off the street, never to be seen again. What I’m unprepared for is the day my best friend Mal goes missing, only to turn up upstate in a mansion, claiming one of the Awakened beasts is her “mate”.

When I find her, I’m equally unprepared for the broken and brooding alpha male she warns me away from. The one so deranged that the pack’s “enforcer” has to regularly drag him home, wrapped up in chains so he doesn’t kill someone. He’s clearly insane, but there’s a fire in his eyes that calls to me, a deep and primal power that tugs at my soul.

There’s just one other problem. His only memory is of beautiful blue eyes. Blue eyes he can’t stop thinking about. Blue eyes that aren’t my own - even as our connection grows. I shouldn’t let him touch me, but I can’t stop.

My presence drives him to the very edges of his frayed sanity, and I’m terrified to find out what happens when his restraint finally snaps.

Wake Up, Alpha is the second book in the Alpha Compound series, by Anna Fury. This dystopian omegaverse romance features a firecracker heroine and destroyed alpha finding their own HEA.

4 His Greatest Find Stars ⭐

The second book in The Alpha Compound series didn’t disappoint. As we’ve settled into the new world, this new breed of man is feared and hunted. Yet as they are finding their omegas in the form of human woman, the divide is slowly mending.

“I should have known you were mine when you shot a gun at me within moments of meeting.”

Wake Up Alpha is the story of Samson and Penelope. From the moment these two are thrown together it's mayhem. The outcast Alpha and the fiery red-haired nurse were the perfect mix of fire and lust.

After meeting Samson in the first book, he is very much the tortured hero. Unable to control his wildling urges, he’s deemed a threat to all, essentially making him an outcast. So, you would expect Penelope to be scared, yes? Ah no. In fact, it gets her a little hot…

The need to yank her in here with me and coat that sweet honey all over myself threatens to choke the breath from my lungs. But I can’t. For so many reasons, I can’t.

Penelope is the daughter you want to raise. Feisty and ballsy and a little left of center. I adored her. She immediately saw the goodness and struggle in Samson. And as he resisted at every turn, Pen could trust her intuition and man up for both of them and claim her Alpha.

“You are incorrigible, Penelope. A true one-track mind.”

It’s true, because where this alpha is concerned, all roads lead to dick.

I knew this series would gain momentum from the first book. A series filled with suspense, a little danger and hot and heavy claiming’s. This author has managed to create a believable dystopian world where humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. And what they don’t understand, they're quick to destroy. Throw in a brotherhood and a love story, I am enjoying the heck out of this series.

Review: 4.5 Stars!

After finishing book 1 I was eager to dive right into book 2 and read more about my protective and dominant alphas. Wake Up Alpha can be perfectly read as a standalone, as you follow now the story of Pen, a ER nurse and Samson, a broken 'awakened'. However it is much more enjoyable if you read book 1 first since Mal and Orion will also be present in book 2 and you will feel that familiar nostalgia feeling when they appear.

I was surprised at how fast I connected with Pen. She is such an enjoyable female-lead, both head-strong and independent, she won't be afraid to speak up her mind or protect those she loves. Samson still has windling phases and can at times lose control. Combined with the fact that he has memory gaps and keeps growing enormously, he has become an outcast amongst other alphas. Pen literally barges in his life and things start to change. The sexual attraction is there from the very start and soon enough they can't keep their hands off each other. I am addicted to omega-alpha dynamics and the omegaverse world.

We discover much more about the roles of the Alphas inside a pack and that the Task Force has many secrets up their sleeves. The author has left us with many little unsolved mysterious which has me both curious and excited for the third book in the Alpha Compound series. Anna fury has quickly become a favorite and I will definitely keep an eye out for her upcoming novels.

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy!

Awesome, smoking hot next chapter of the Compound series!

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: fated mate
Angst: 😰😰😰
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Triggers: none

Boy! Anna set the bar pretty high with her first novel and Wake Up Alpha does not disappoint! This time around we get the story of Penelope and Samson. Penelope has gone looking for her best friend, Mallory (from book one) and winds up at the compound doors, armed to the teeth and looking for a fight. What she doesn’t expect is the fantastical tale Mallory tells about both the alphas as well as Mallory’s relationship as an Omega with Orion. Immediately, Samson is drawn to Penelope, the fiery redhead, but he tries to fight his compulsion over concerns that he can’t remember his past as well as unexplained health issues he’s had since becoming an alpha.

Wow! What a hot, smexy ride that leaves you wanting more! Pen and Samson are true opposites. She is super aggressive and outgoing - the daughter of an outlaw - and her mouth is always running at snark level, expert. Samson was such an enigma in the last book, so it was really nice to get his backstory. Samson was an English professor before the awakening and is usually quite chill, despite the fact that he still has periods of wildness with him completely out of control. The two of them together just work, despite their differences and not only because of their pull. They definitely fill the spaces in each other. The chemistry between them is off the chain. Between the sniffing and the licking and the biting… and that’s BEFORE we get to the smexy! Good Lordy, /fans self, lol.  The storyline was fantastic and Anna continues to lay out more of her Compound series world, giving hints of future conflicts in the coming books.  I’m super excited to see what’s next!!

There is no way that this is Anna Fury’s second book. She writes a story like a seasoned author, builds a world that you can easily visualize and creates characters that will reach in and grab your heart and squeeze! She has blown me away!

Samson, our dear sweet broken alpha. Samson is not like the other Alpha’s. He is continuously going through the “wilding” phase, he keeps blacking out and waking up in Tribeca, and he keeps growing. No one can figure out why he is different, but there is definitely something special about Samson.

Penelope (Pen) is a nurse and best friends with Mallory from book one. Pen and Mal are “ride or die” friends. So when Pen doesn’t hear from Mal after her 4 day shift at the hospital, she goes searching for her and what she finds is a compound full of Alphas (the Awakened) and her BFF. Showing no fear, Pen stands up to the alpha’s; thinking she is rescuing Mal… but she is about to discover why Mal came to the compound and never left.

This book had my emotions all over the place from giggling at Pen and her “all roads lead to dick” mentality to heartbreak when Samson doesn’t feel he is worthy of Pen, to anger at the Alphas plight.

“I shouldn’t be involved with you because I might hurt you. I’m volatile, Penelope, unsafe...and I don’t know what I left behind when I transitioned.” ~ Samson to Pen

I loved the heck out of all the characters in this book, but Samson is one of those characters that is so broken you just want to hug him until he is healed. Pen was the perfect mix of sweet, strong, snarky and sexy. Of course we have Connor, Brady, Mitchell, Alice, Orion and Mal in the book and I love all of them but Samson… he is something special. This book is something special… this series is something special.

So, do I recommend. A THOUSAND TIMES YES!
Did I love this book? DUH? YES!
Will I keep reading? YES! (and I just found out there is a dirty little epilogue coming in the newsletter I AM SO EXCITED).

Give this series a chance. I think you will love it too!

STEAM: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

If you saw my review for The Alpha Awakens, you know that the bar has been set high for this series.

Book two picks up from where it leaves off with Samson and Penelope.

Everyone at the Compound is still working on understanding how a virus -- that affects only men – can be managed. For Samson, it is even more puzzling. He is still growing even after the initial phase, he experiences random wildling episodes, and he can sense everything more so than his pack brothers.

Penelope is searching for her best friend Mallory, our heroine from book one. She finds herself tracking Mal down to the Compound, where she meets Samson and the rest of the Alphas.

Oh, Samson. He doesn't say much, but boy, when he does, you will be blushing from head to toe. He is well-read, sharp, and just so freaking adorable.

And Penelope. Pen's sassiness is unparalleled. There is a line she says that had me laughing so hard and wishing it were on a shirt. I would love to have her as a ride-or-die, because who else would traverse through the unknown and face off with Alphas two feet taller than her just to find her friend? My new BFF, of course.

Speaking of unmatched, the 🔥 scenes. Anna Fury writes them so well. The build-up leaves you breathless. Because I am a good friend, I am warning you - be prepared for the dinner scene in the beginning that will have you clutching your pearls. When these two do get some action, it is spicy, dirty, HOT.

What I love about this series overall is that while each book may focus on a couple, it also infuses significant world-building as you go through their story. The Alpha Awakens laid much of the groundwork for the story's background. Wake Up, Alpha is now starting to develop important pockets of the world that will be key in the later books.

That said, Anna does an amazing job of giving you enough information that this book can be read as a standalone and that you won't feel like you're left hanging as you get details for the future books.

She also gets you super-invested in these characters. Two books in, and I feel like they're MY friends. No spoilers: the climax scene had me crying in a parked car at my kid's practice. The dad in the next car over may have thought I lost my mind.

Like I said, while these books wrap the main story up nicely, she creates such an amazing world and fantastic characters that it leaves you craving for the next installment. I know I am counting down the days to book three.

** I received an ARC of this book and am posting an honest review voluntarily. **

Too much going on. A virus creating Alphas, omegas, actual shifting alphas, and a dystopian government imprisoning alphas as the whole world thinks they’re completely not human. I didn’t read the previous book but we’re supposed to think that that heroine was missing for 4 days and is now in a happy, stable relationship in a pack? Huh? How? It’s too much and the world building and dialogue aren’t keeping up well. I just didn’t like.

I loved Samson he is such an angel, but is going through hell. He has no memory of his life as a human male but knows something or someone keeps dragging him back to the city. Pen is his omega, but he refuses to claim her, in order to save her. Little does he know he has to claim her in order to save himself.

Wake Up, Alpha is the second book in the Alpha Compound series, and it is hot! This fated mates, opposites attract romance left me wanting more! After reading Anna Fury’s debut, Alpha Awakens the second book in this series does not disappoint!

Wake Up, Alpha follows Penelope, Mallory’s (from book one) best friend, and Samson. Penelope and Samson are instantly attracted to one another when they first meet. Samson and Penelope are opposites. She is strong, brave, and outgoing. He’s still feeling the effects of the virus and is prone to moments of being out of control. Penelope and Samson have a lot of differences, but they still work. Their chemistry is electric and off the charts.

Anna Fury has done a fantastic job at creating an amazing fictional world and well-rounded characters. I loved the plot and how it came together at the end. This is technically the second book in the series, but Anna Fury provides enough detail for it to be read as a standalone.

Pen is Mallory's best friend. When Mallory disappears, Pen follows Mal's phone until she gets at the Alphas compound and so she gets thrown into the fight between the Alpha and the Awakened police team. Pen finds out she's an omega and her Alpha is Samson, the most unstable of the Alphas at the compound. Everybody is warning her against him, but she can't help but feel attracted. Samson is also trying to stay away from her, but it's impossible for them.

In this book we get to find out more about the leading roles at the Alpha compound, the seer, the strategist, etc. and that the government has some nefarious plans for the awakened. The book left me slightly curious about the Alpha roles and what will happen, but it wasn't able to pull me in the story as much as I had hoped.

DNF 30% - this started out interesting but then the relationship and conflict dynamics presented and they weren’t for me. I don’t like the I-can’t-be-with-her-because-I-might-hurt-her trope. It’s tedious to me.

A Dystopian Shifter Romance
Alpha Compound Series Book #2
Wake up, Alpha
Authour: @annafuryauthor

“An omega is her alpha’s greatest treasure and the sole reason for everything he does. What could be more feminist than that?”

“She’s mine, my omega,” I admit. “But I’m too volatile, too unpredictable. I’m not a good alpha to get involved with. Even so, at every turn, I’m losing the fight to keep my hands off her.”

When Pen realizes her best friend Mal is missing, she takes it upon herself to look for her, and she is shocked at what she finds. Finding her Mal has changed Pen’s life forever because she can’t stop looking and thinking about the big brooding alpha that her best friend warns her away from. He's the most dangerous alpha at the compound, but is she not scared of him, and everyone else is. Samson is struggling not only with being an alpha but also he’s lost his memories until Pen shows up and things soon become easier to understand. Pen struggles with her new life at the compound as she becomes everything she hopes to avoid since leaving her old life behind, but will these new connections with an alpha make it all worthwhile?

Omg, I was completely hooked on the relationship between Samson and Pen. Pen helped Samsuon through so much coming into his life. He did everything he could to protect Pen even from himself, and it was heartbreaking reading these two fight the connection between them. This book was full of spice and lust from start to finish.

Ahh! Okay, so I thought book one was good, but damn book 2 really blew it out of the water. I felt the author truly grew from book one to book 2, in writing, character development, and plot development! If you were unsure If you wanted to continue after book one for whatever reason, this is me saying you DEFINITELY need to continue!

This book is advertised as a second in the series but could be read as a stand alone. Not sure I agree with the stand alone part because you definitely need to have some knowledge of book one in order to enjoy book two. And you for sure wouldn’t be able to read book 3 without the first two.

Samson was a character I needed to know more about as soon as book one ended. He was a gentle giant…until he wasn’t. The relationship he forms with Pen, Mal’s best friend, is sizzling hot and strong. They both compliment each other in the best ways.

I love how the series progresses in this book and I’m left with so many questions! I cannot wait to learn more about some of my favorite characters, why a certain person isn’t shifting, and so much more!

This is my first audiobook by this author and let me tell you it does not disappoint, it's Penelope and Samson's story and tells how Penelope whilst looking for her best friend, Mallory arrives at the compound, armed to the teeth and expecting a fight. What she doesn’t expect is what Mallory tells her about both alphas as well as her relationship as an Omega with Orion. At his first meeting with Penelope Samson is drawn to her but he tries to fight this because of some unexplained health issues and the loss of some of his memories.

Pen and Samson are total opposites, she's aggressive, strong and outgoing, the daughter of an outlaw and full of snark whilst Samson was once an English professor and is usually quite chilled despite the fact that he still has periods of wildness when he completely loses control. But despite their differences, they work. The chemistry between them is palpable and undeniable. The storyline is smooth flowing and hot!

The narration by Patrick Zeller and Samantha Brentmoor is very well done and added to my enjoyment of this story.

So Anna Fury was my introduction to Omegaverse and I've been a little hooked since, I love this dystopian world she's created and the characters within it!

In this story we follow Samson and Penelope! Their story is unique and brilliantly enticing!

Anna has a way of bringing many SURPISE twists and turns that keep you hooked for the next page. There's not a dull moment in this book!

I loved being about to visit old characters and maybe meet some new ones too! This book picks up where the first leaves off so the baseline story continues but a main character story blooms too!

There's a lot of love, a lot of alpha, a lot of new stuff I was introduced to and well it was fun! I love escaping with my reads and well this was escapism at its finest!

Thanks Anna for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Series: Alpha Compound, book 2

Thoughts - Samson MMC is this utterly misunderstood alpha and my heart brakes for him in so many different parts in his story. Is it worth it in the end, of course! I loved the sheer confidence Pen MFC brought with her which perfectly balanced out Samsons mood shifts as he battles with his flashbacks. You absolutely need to start this series with book 1!

Plot - With Mal safely in the compound she’s forgotten one timing detail… tell her best friend where she is. So can anyone blame Penelope when she tracks down her friends secret location and is ready to throw down to save her.

Slumber no more

This series is quickly becoming my new favorite series, and this book is a fantastic addition to it! Once again the author has created some amazing characters! I love how they both have their own baggage, but they discovered that the past is so much more than they were thinking. They are strong, and weak in their own way, but the connection between them cannot be denied. The author took us on a fantastic journey to love and family, there was some pain, but even more pleasure along the way. This book is intense, both emotionally and in the action/danger areas, and kept me entertained and enthralled until the very last page. I can’t wait to read all about the next alpha who finds their perfect omega.

Wake Up, Alpha by Anna Fury is a dystopian omegaverse romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Patrick Zeller and Samantha Brentmoor. This is the second book in the Alpha Compound series.

This is the second book of Anna's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I enjoyed the relationship between Samson and Pen. I liked that we got both of their points of views throughout the book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series Wide Awake to be released on audio so I can get Carmen, Connor, and Brady.

Patrick and Samantha did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dystopian romances, omegaverse romances, or romantic suspense.

I really liked this one and the duet narration just highlighted that. I think both narrators did a fantastic job and brought the characters to life. I especially fell in love with Pen and her strength in this book was top tier. The way she was ready to defend her best friend, the compound and doing everything for Sampson even when he was being an idiot. And yes, I do feel Sampson was an idiot at times and he definitely should've groveled more but in the end, their HEA was worth it and I'm so happy to have read this one.

The overall plot of the books moved along nicely and the action moments felt really good. I'm really curious to see what happens next to the pack and who might be the next one to fall and to whom. My money is on Griz.

Omg yes! I thought I loved Ri from book 1 but Samson is just everything! I loved the push and pull of the budding relationship between him and Pen. I love OV normally but this series has me in such a chokehold! It just sucked me in so hardcore that if I had been reading this instead of listening to it, I don’t think I would have gotten anything done for the past day. I need book 3 asap and I can’t wait to see which couple we get next. There is so many couples I need more in-depth stories about!

A mostly enjoyable omegaverse romance.

I loved the heroine in this novel! She knew exactly what she wanted and pursued it relentlessly. She was such a strong, emotionally brave person without a submissive, retiring bone in her body. I loved her. The hero was okay, but the fact that he spent most of this novel whining like an angsty teen was incredibly tiresome to read. The plot finally picked up and had more high stakes action near the end, but I wish there had been more of that sprinkled evenly throughout the novel instead of the angst-fest that took up most of the middle. A bit of a mixed bag of a book.

This is a dystopian omegaverse romance and the second book in the Alpha Compound series by Anna Fury. We have met both of the characters in book 1 and, although they can be read separately, the experience will be incredibly richer if you start with the prequel, by signing Anna Fury's newsletter, and go from that.
What can I say about Pen and Samson's love story? It is painful and beautiful but it is also strong and graphic. They are both fierce protectors of each other, their friends and their pack and I loved it every single time that I read it (yes I may have read it twice or ten times).

I loved this book!
In fact, I may have loved it even more than her debut "Alpha Awakened".
Pen and Samson were explosive together!
At the end of the first book, the pack enforcer was a wildcard. Getting bigger and more dangerous with each day, with. no idea why or how to stop it.
Pen is a feisty redheaded nurse and a soothing balm to his unstable nature.
It hit all the right spots for me!
