Brielle Cerver - The consummate career woman who has purposely put work first to avoid any further risk of heartbreak. But when a disturbing turn of events threatens both her livelihood and her safety, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the man hired to protect her.
Allen Jones – The handsome security consultant who, after a devastating loss, has also made work his life’s passion – until he meets Brielle and discovers his priorities have shifted.
Can they move past their tragic histories to build a lasting love together? And can Allen find and stop Brielle's stalker before he exacts the ultimate revenge?
A bit about me - I began as a suspense/thriller writer (you can find me here on Goodreads under D.F. Hart, if you'd like to learn more about that body of work).
I wrote a supplemental character named Maddie in book Three of my suspense series, and I put her through quite a lot in that story. She resonated deeply with me, more than any other supplemental character I've written to date. And I felt she deserved a happy ending.
I have my MBA with Accounting concentration, and live in Texas with my fabulous husband and two fur-babies that aren't spoiled one single bit.
This book sat on my To Read pile for quite some time because I was slightly put off when I realized it was told in first person present tense (alternating viewpoints). I'm not typically a fan of first person narrators, but I've read a couple of decent ones recently, so I finally decided to give this one a shot.
It started off really good. I found the characters interesting and I wanted to know more about their backstories. And the two are cute. Both are older (Brielle is 40, and I'm assuming Allen is in his 40s as well) and have fairly traumatic pasts that have led them to be more or less celibate for a long time, which is rare in books, especially for the male protagonist, and they both immediately feel that something is different about each other. (One should be warned that there are trigger warnings, which I'll list at the bottom of this review, though they are mostly alluded to.)
As the book went on, it started to fall into the TSTL-woman-in-peril trap, where Brielle feels like she has to be part of her investigation every step of the way and at one point decides enough is enough. Fortunately, she mostly sees reason before things get too stupid. However, I found myself liking her less and less the longer the story went on.
Allen, is less annoying, though his hot-cold behavior, particularly in the first half of the novel, gets a little old. However, he makes it very clear that he knows he's being stupid, and I kind of love that.
Ultimately, the story's climax is not too surprising, though it's not entirely predictable. That said, the reason it's not too predictable is that the villain's rationale is it particularly believable or fleshed out. I'm being vague to prevent spoilers.
However, this book is one that you can read pretty quickly, which makes it perfect for the beach or a long plane ride where you just don't want to spend too much time thinking. There will be more in this series, the author's note says 7, and I will definitely consider picking them up.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion.
Trigger warnings: Violent assault--likely sexual--in a character's past; assault and threatened rape in present
Saving Brielle (Love's Defender Book 1) by Faith Hart Publisher: 2 of Harts Publishing Publication Date: March 22, 2022 Genre: General Fiction (Adult), Romance
Saving Brielle is the first book in the new Love's Defender series by Faith Hart. I don't even know where to start! This book is so good!
Brielle is a fierce, independent, strong woman who has overcome so much and is willing to keep fighting for her life, no matter what. She is supported by her best friend and (eventually) Allen, who has his own heartbreak & loss to overcome.
I was fascinated by this book! I love a good mystery and this one kept me on the edge of my seat! I also love books when our leading lady goes to back for herself (with the support of her sexy man) and I was cheering Brielle on in this one!
This was a fast read and I think it was because I could not put it down! I loved the characters and can't wait for the future books to be released! (I think there may be 7 in total!) I absolutely loved this book! If you enjoy books by Susan Stoker and Katie Reus, you'll love this one! This is a must read!!!!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Brielle Cerver is a realtor who has survived the unimaginable and come out stronger than ever. She is a survivor but cautious as a result of that past.
Allen Jones, a security consultant with a painful past of his own, is just as closed off.
When he and Brielle first speak over the phone after Allen contacts Brielle in need of her services, the chemistry is instant, surprising both of them.
I got the ARC of this book and enjoyed it a lot. It’s fast-paced, suspenseful as Brielle and Allen try to figure out who is the person stalking her while coming to terms with their attraction to each other. The characters are likable, especially Brielle, who is a total badass having survived what her ex did to her. Allen is gruff and lovable in his need to protect her.
Even the secondary characters are great, and I hope Ms. Hart has plans for stories for the rest of Allen’s security team. As for now, I’m looking forward to reading Mari and Adam’s story in the 2nd book of this series.
Wow!! I loved reading, Saving Brielle (Love's Defender, Book One) by D. Faith Hart because it was steamy and suspenseful. Brielle and Allen had instant chemistry on a phone call but due to both of their pasts, couldn't seem to connect again until months later. The chemistry between the two of them was intense and steamy. I loved the story line and how their story went. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering how and if it would all work out. I was a little nervous there were a lot of chapters, but the story moves very quickly and it sucked me in to wondering what was going to happen. I would highly recommend this story. It is a great first book. I am definitely intrigued. I received an ARC of this story and am voluntarily choosing to leave this review. Fantastic and steamy and intense all rolled into one!!
Emotional yet suspenseful: I enjoyed this first book in the Love's Defender series and look forward to hopefully reading upcoming ones as this is an interesting group of friends. When Brielle's personal safety was threatened, Allen quickly stepped in to protect her and help find her tormentor. I enjoyed seeing both of them work through the issues from their pasts and it was wonderful that they were able to find healing and love once again. I thought the suspense and intrigue aspects were well done and I was excited and curious to find out how it was going to all turn out. One down side that I found rather annoying was that there was a lot of internal dialogue and it was in italics which only made it stand out more. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Easy 5 stars. Brielle is a real estate agent that works hard and has rebuilt her life after her psyco boyfriend beat the crap out of her. She got fixed up, changed her name and moved away. She is handling some real estate transactions for Allen who has been shut down romantically since his wife died. He is wildly attracted to her but shuts her down as he feels guilty about moving on. When Brielle starts getting threatening phone calls, the detective in charge talks her into private security. It's Allen's company and sparks fly again. The drama is intense, the romance and sex is hot and the story is awesome. I can't wait until the next story in this series. I got this story from HiddenGems and am voluntarily leaving a review
Saving Brielle is the first book in the Love's Defender Series and Brielle and Allen’s story. Brielle is a real estate agent, who has started over after a heartbreaking past. She’s handling some business for Allen, a man who has been closed off since the loss of his wife. When Brielle’s safety is threatened she hires private security which so happens to be Allen’s company. I loved attraction between Brielle and Allen and their chemistry was palpable. I couldn’t put this book down, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. A definite must read and I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Heartbroken individuals finding comfort, solace and passion in their relationship as they come together under trying circumstances.
Brielle is already a survivor but is experiencing further issues which she eventually seeks protection for. She had previously met Allen but to be fair, he hadn’t made a great impression so trust and feelings take a while to build.
Quite pacy with a fair amount of suspense the story does pull you in and overall the characters are likeable and story engaging.
One downside for me is that the authors writing style includes a lot of internal dialogue which I tended to find a little annoying after a while.
Two heartbroken people who chose to hide since their very serious, very different experiences. In the beginning, they both try to ignore the spark between them but when her life becomes in danger, they’re thrown together. The story had interesting twists and a great love story. I can’t wait for the next couple in the series!
*I am leaving an honest and voluntary review after receiving this book as an ARC.
First time author read for me. Brielle and Allen have instant chemistry. Allen does a bit of back and forth, but once he come around he’s protective and sweet. Lots of suspense. HEA.
A truly wonderful read. The characters were great. I can not wait for the next book to come out. I highly recommend this author. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
