Connor McArthur’s land’s been stolen by a highland scoundrel who’s a distant relative, thereby relegating Connor to live among the hills, biding his time when he can get the lands and title back. He’s heard rumor of a dowry wagon to be provided to the thieving bastard who’s stolen his lands. Connor gathers his men and captures the wagon, but what’s he to do with the fiery lass who is traveling with the dowry?
First time I've read a Scottish Highland historical romance that can be rated as sweet and clean but this one qualifies with just a quick kiss to the cheek. Beautiful Caitlin who is being escorted to become the wife of a laird is captured by a rogue group of highland outlaws who were ousted from the keep including the rightful laird. Discovering her hiding in a wagon full of her dowry, they weren't sure what to do with her until she became useful in cooking and healing. An attraction occurs between the rightful laird and Caitlin as plans are made to fight for Connor's t retake of the keep and his position. True to the dialect and era, this story portrays a Robinhood style existence of the times.
i loved this book its about Caitlan Graham who lives with her uncle jamie and her siblings she is betrothed to a highland laird while traveling with her dowry and all her worldly possessions to be married she is kidnapped by a highland outlaw Connor McArthur and his clan who steals her dowry and all her possessions she ends up at their camp held hostage and then becomes a housemaid all the while making a plan to escape she slowly gets to know connor falls in love with him and she learns that connor is the real MacArthur laird not the laird she was going to get married to and offers her dowry to help his cause of releasing prisoners' her betrothed put in jail and take back the castle
Wonderful story. Betrothed to an unknown highland laird. Caitlin Graham was a lowland woman, kidnapped by a gang of thieves, on the way to her wedding. The thieves were actually a Laird, Conned McArthur, with his family and friends, who had been usurped by his cousin, in league with paid mercenaries. Interesting dynamics, honest, chivalrous characters who won Caitlins respect once she knew the circumstances. War to take back their keep. Good read, well written.
A highland love story with no surprises. This was definitely not a page turner...the title is misleading and the story line disjointed at times. I found myself back tracking to see if I missed the connection, but no it was just a jump in story with no supporting transition.
If you just want an easy escape for a couple hours and don't want to think much this is the book. I doubt I would read another by this author.
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to be kidnapped and then fall in love with the laird that captured you? Well read this story and you can see how that would be possible. Such is the case with Laird McArther and Caitlyn. A very nieve Caitlyn, promised to the usurping laird, on the way to him, is kidnapped and brought to the camp where the true McArther laird was along with her dowry. Slowly her heart opened to this mysterious man. Slowly she gets to know him and the rest is history.

Okay first read of the year is finally finished!!! Overall I thought this book was just okay. I didn't get a good feel for the characters till the end of the book. The romance was just okay I wanted the two of them to interact more. Honestly, I was way more invested in how side plot. But I was intrigued by the side characters, so I might read the next one.
Caitlin Graham and her siblings live with their Uncle Jaime after their were orphaned. While traveling with her dowry to be wed to a highland laird whom she met at a wedding, Caitlin is taken hostage by a highland outlaw Connor McArthur and she became his housemaid. Connor and Caitlyn soon start to fall in love. I really enjoyed this sweet historical romantic novel.
When Caitlin is captured on her way to her betrothed with her dowry, she gets to know the clan who kidnapped her and that her betrothed is a very bad man. She offers her dowry to Laird Connor so he can hire mercenaries to get his stolen land back from Caitlin's betrothed. Connor is severely hurt, and she nurses him back to health. Loved this book.
Truth and right wins in the end. No weapon formed against a believer shall prosper for greater is He in them than him of this world. You might be down for a minute but just wait and the Lord will see you through.
Not a bad story but I wish the editing had been better. Lots of weird little errors that never should have happened. Not sure whether to blame a bad editor or if the book was done using speech wreck and never fully proofread.
So enjoyable to read a story that has suspense, strong values and a deepening friendship woven into the tale. Wonderful to get through the entire story without having to skip parts that are way too intimate and detailed.
Reading the story of Connor and about the betrayal from a family member and then the years he waited to get it all back and finally the time comes for him to get back what belonged to him. But he got so much more. Read and enjoy.
An exciting story about finding herself amidst brigands. This story has a lot of action. A group of people living in the woods as brigands and thieves even though they once had a home. Brothers fighting a wicked cousin who stole from them.
Honestly, Reluctant Bride isn't so much a romance as a story of a clan losing its home, and finding it again, with a little Rom thrown in. Lol. That doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the story in the slightest, I must say.
I wasn't sure I'd really enjoy this book...the language and events a little different than my norm....but it was extremely well-written, descriptive and very entertaining! Hard to put down! Definitely ready for the next book by Ms. Adams!
I really loved this story. There was excitement, adventure, and a romance that was so sweet. No graphic sex, no bad language. Plenty of interesting characters that you can love and some to hate!
This was a lovely read about a young woman off to marry a laird and being kidnapped by “brigands” and what happens as she learns the true story about the people who kidnapped her.
