Kevin Cameron is a decorated Combat Veteran, mental health professional, and former military K9 trainer. Internationally recognized for his work with working dogs and Veterans, he now spans the globe teaching and sharing the expertise he has developed through his military & professional experiences.
Certified to train law enforcement, military, and mental health professionals, K. Cameron brings this book to serve as a developmental guide for young trainers giving the foundational knowledge needed to train a service dog.
This author spent a majority of the book trying to explain very technical language (incorrectly in some places) of training but very little time giving readers any guidance on how to achieve the successes he claims to have found.
His methods are considered “balanced” which means he recommends using physical punishments (corrections) as well as “rewards” but he strongly advocates never using food or toys when training the dog, only verbal praise and physical affection, which many dogs don’t find inherently rewarding.
There are many much better books in existence that can serve as much more effective and relevant manuals for training service dogs, without relying on outdated methods and misunderstandings of both classical and operant conditioning.
