Another day, another book tiktok hyped up for no reason.
The book made zero sense. Allegedly they were “bestfriends for 5 years” but literally knew absolutely nothing about eachother? Because they were just “hooking up” and didn’t want anything serious? Ok but if you’re such great friends like it claims then uhhh… you’d know about each others lives.
There was so much cringe. And not in the good way. WE GET IT SHE HAD TATTOOS. Like holy shit. How many conversations did she need to have about them. They don’t make someone look “edgy” or “tough” like is said in this 6294729 times. It’s 2023, everybody has tattoos. Nobody cares, calm down.
There’s also a part where she goes to a tattoo shop to get a tattoo while pregnant of the babies heartbeat and the artist knows she’s pregnant ? No. Lol you literally have to sign a waiver saying you are not pregnant every single time you get a tattoo lol.
Anyway, aside from all the terrible tattoo cringe. Lily was just unbearable. She was selfish and immediately was like “I want him signing away his rights I’m moving away blah blah blah” maam that’s not your choice lol that is his baby too and both parents deserve the same opportunity with a baby.
Oh and there was quite a few typos, as well as these parts where it like switched from first person to narrated. Instead of saying “mom” his thoughts are referring to his mom as Bailey but he’s never referred to her as that otherwise? Just weird writing.
Lily and Carter are as different as night and day but for years they’ve tried to ignore their simmering just under the surface attraction for each other. One night they both give in to their mutual longing for each other and it starts them on a down whirl spiral of no strings attached friends with benefits.
But for months now, Carter has realized this is more than a casual fling, he has real feelings for Lily but he also has gotten to know her and he knows that he’ll have to broach the subject of becoming more than casual, slowly.
Lily has never felt more for anyone like she has with Carter, but her own past has turned her cynical and she knows that all good things must come to an end. And when she gets a positive pregnancy test, she knows she was right. Carter would never choose her for the long run and she doesn’t believe in happily ever after anyways.
But Carter isn’t ready to call it quits. He wants to be there for his baby and he wants a future with Lily by his side. When his father demands he date another woman, Carter convinces Lily to pose as his fiance for the weekend to dissuade his father and also to buy him time to show Lily that his family would accept her and their child and that a future together isn’t such a crazy idea.
Family drama throws a wrench in Carter’s plans and he’ll have to fight not only his father but also Lily’s own insecurities and doubts to finally get his happily ever after.
My Thoughts: I loved Carter, he was genuinely good guy. I loved that he was devoted to Lily and his baby and that he fought hard for both of them. It’s never easy being stuck between the family your born into and the family you claim along the way and Carter’s family situations was definitely tricky.
I also loved Lily, she was such a tough cookie on the outside but such a sweet and vulnerable person on the inside. She was relatable and I couldn’t help but root for her. She has a great group of friends and her relationship with Carter shows her that she’s worth a family and love and security. I loved her character with both her good and bad. She was a great heroine.
There was a lot to like about both MCs and the story had a lot of steamy scenes that highlighted the great chemistry between them that I really liked. This could've easily been a 4 Star read for me but all the OW drama that dogged Lily and Carter for the second half of the book dropped it down a star. I didn’t think it would bug me so much but I could have done without the knowledge that Lily was the 3rd girl (that we know of) that Carter had sex with in his room. This fun fact just made things a bit icky. Lily states this doesn’t bug her, but strangely enough, I was bothered by it. The high school sweetheart thing was laid out like this huge secret shame but then it didn’t really make the impact I was expecting. Then there’s Melanie! The whole mess of Melanie was also not cool. I was left feeling jipped that Lily didn’t put that woman in her place or witness Carter being crystal clear that she didn’t have a chance of upstaging Lily. Like, if there’s going to be such dramatic other woman in the mix, at least give us the proper closure of showing Lily standing up for herself.
I know this sounds like Lily was a doormat or something but that is not the case. Lily and Carter both know that Melanie is just wanting to start trouble between them and Lily is never jealous of her but she also never confronts Melanie. Carter confronts Melanie on his own and Lily never is made aware of it. My biggest problem was that Melanie was allowed so much page time to be snarky and mean but neither MCs ever made big deal out of it. They just brushed her off and personally I needed more of a direct confrontation than what she ended up with. It felt like they just gave her a slap on the wrist and never made her see that her actions deserved equal consequences.
Overall a good read, not perfect (for me) but I can definitely see others enjoy this friends to lovers story. It had heart, heat and a very cute happily ever after with an epilogue that melted me into a mushy pile of goo, haha.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Carter Holden comes from a world where appearances and money are everything, and that is a world Lily Matthew's knows she doesn't belong in. They couldn't be more opposite if they tried, Lily is wild and free in every sense of the term and has the tattoos to prove it.Whereas Carter is buttoned up and always donning a suit, and his appearance screams wealth and privilege... and for some darn reason that does it for Lily.
She knows she will never fit into his world permanently, but it's fun playing in for the time being, working together during the day and rolling between the sheets at night. She knows their little "relationship" has an expiration date, and she is totally okay with that.... that is until she realizes that their fun has resulted in an unexpected bundle of joy.
Must Keep You is a absorbing tale rich with heartfelt emotion, drama, and love. What you find between the pages here is certain to draw you in, put a squeeze on your heart, and steam up your tablet screen. Watching these two circle around one another and try to keep things light, all while failing was mesmerizing to say the least, they knew they had something special, but wanting to admit it was another story. Then you add a unexpected child to that mix and things took a very dramatic and heart-wrenching turn. Once I got started on this one, I just couldn't put it down, I had to see if there was a happily ever after waiting in the wings for them, and what I found did not disappoint. What a great addition to the series, highly recommend you give it a chance, it's certain to leave you heart happy... but not before torturing it just a little first!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Must Keep You is the fourth book in The Mallory Family series and is great as a stand-alone. This is the first book I have read by this author and I am so glad I gave it a try. I feel in love with the Mallory family and friends. The characters made me think of a large, warm family and how they help each other. I loved how down to earth Carter was and his love for his family came through. The book was emotional and down to earth. I loved the author’s style of writing and look forward to reading another book by her. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited am voluntarily writing a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a fast-paced, steamy Billionaire’s Baby story that breaks the mold—in a good way. The characters are deeply carved, and both Carter and Lily touch the readers’ hearts as well as elevating heart rates.
Ok, I'm not a huge fan of the pregnancy trope but I decided to give this one a chance and there were some nice points here, like the main couple not being in their twenties and how they act with each other. However, I think this one has a bit too much family drama for me. So it wasn't a favorite.
I’ve read a few of the authors books, but nothing from Darling Cove. I don’t think I missed anything from not reading the others in this series.
Book 5 sees Lily praying she’s not pregnant. After 5 years of knowing Carter, six months ago they took the plunge and started seeing each other, lily knows it won’t be forever, he said as much. Plus he’s a really rich guy, she’s not got the right pedigree to marry into the Holden empire. Lily knows he won’t want to be saddled with her and a baby. And as she has trust issues anyway (her adopted parents loved her intensely, until they had a biological child, Lily then got forgotten)she can’t let Carter get too close, it was only meant to be fun.
Carter isn’t your usual rich guy, he works and he works hard. He loves his mother and hates the fact she’s dying, but what really hurts is his father, he looks at his son as an investment m, but worse, he’s taking her money. And he feels like he’s on borrowed time.....
He thought lily was having a good time, he thought he was proving to her that what they had together meant more than just fun. And when Lily announces she’s pregnant, his gut told him “mine” then she throws out she’s leaving the place they both work at. What will it take for Carter to show Lily she means more than just a few fun nights. He wants more.....
The book plays out of a forty eight hour period. (Yes they’ve been seeing each other for six months, and known each other for five years) I liked the fact is a dysfunctional family. Lily with her trust issues, but knowing she will be there for her baby. Carter the doting and caring son, but also the hot guy and potential father.
I liked the thought process that Lily went through. Didn’t like the thought she could terminate Carter’s rights. Liked how other friends and family members had their say, and valid points. Carter’s family was a right mixed up bunch. A father who thought he was entitled to run his family like a dictatorship, wasn’t too keen on him.
And when Carter asks her to be his “fake” fiancée! Will she help him out? So will Lily let Carter see his baby? Will he be brave enough to fight for what he really wants?
This was a good read. Lily and Carter work together but they started sleeping together. She finds out that she is pregnant. I didn't like the way she treated Carter at first. However, by the end everything worked out and they got their happy ending.
ONE ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE!!! Speechless! Deborah delivers one enthusiastic, spectacular, mesmerizing, block busting spin, blasting every emotion into play, fusing this baby together seamlessly. Meting out incredibly, well rounded scenario's, ramping up the exuberance and style with such intensity and precision, blasting this gem to life spectacularly. Wrangling the drama, intrigue, tension, secrets and surging suspense, throwing this little fella into a tailspin with an unforgettable culmination. Add turmoil and distress along with a little humor and a boatload of trouble, you have one mind-blowing, prize winning, bombshell. Bumbling through the trials and tribulations, stunning twists and crisp turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never anticipated. The characters are authentic and genuine with depth and qualities that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so abundantly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job Deborah, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
This book had some good parts, but honestly I wanted to DNF it more than I wanted to continue reading, and honestly I should’ve. This book is everything wrong with the pregnancy trope, and I had to force myself to continue reading. I got the ick so many times throughout this book, and honestly I was very disappointed. The intro was solid. It was different but there were so many gaps, you never got to see the character’s dynamic before the FMC got pregnant, and I just wanted to remind the author “show not tell”. The characters weren’t very interesting, neither was the plot. Actually the side characters storyline was more interesting than the two main characters. Which… um problem. This book was also giving Wattpad… and not in the good way.
I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. It starts almost immediately with Lily avoiding the fact that she might be pregnant to then being pregnant. She questions Carter's ability to be a father and also judges his rich background. For being "best friends" of five years they hardly know anything about each other. He doesn't know about her past and she doesn't know about his. They apparently had this connection for years and finally started a fling a couple of months prior to the book starting. I couldn't get behind it because Lily immediately disregards his ability to parents by offering to release his rights as a father.
This was a DNF, i’m not normally a fan of the pregnancy trope and stay clear of them but I saw this and it had some good reviews, so I thought why not try it. If it is done right the accidental baby thing can be good but this was just not one of those. I just couldn’t get past the fact that the FMC was just so one track minded about this pregnancy and thinking that it only involved her. She was kinda a bitch about things and how she thought this situation would go. I just didn’t like her attitude towards anything or her approaches.
It was quite boring, honestly. And Lily was annoying, meanwhile Carter was the sweetest. And really the drama was just unnecessary and sooo fake looking. Not even interesting. I give the book 2 stars, because I still read the whole book. I don't give out 1 stars, if it was good enough for me to finish.
Almost DNF...it started getting so painful, I read one chapter a day for a few days just so it wouldn't remain unfinished. The last few chapters read like this was the last book in a series, not the first. So I'm guessing there is a series with the side characters... who seemed much better than the female lead. I usually don't like to have a series incomplete, but I will make an exception for this.
The female lead was the absolute worst. Her main character trait was that she has tattoos 🫠 Tattoos aren't a big deal. And they don't make you a rebel or hard-core... especially when your tats are just quotes, bows, and random shapes.
Lily was also the worst character (only rivaled by the dad) because she tried to screw Carter over for no reason! He wasn't abusive or vindictive, and yet, she was going to alienate him from his child. All because he was wealthy?! Oh, and because she has issues with her adopted parents (nothing to do with him). What nonsense.
Another issue I have is that they knew each other 5 years...supposedly best friends, but they're more like strangers. They never met each other's family, he didn't know she was adopted, and she didn't even know his middle name. Geez. What did they do or talk about for the 4.5 years before sleeping together?! How can you spend 5 years knowing someone and not get past superficial conversation? Especially when you try to claim they're your best friend. Just say they were co workers/acquaintances and leave it at that.
Let's fast forward to when she meets his parents. Carter respecting her, showing he cares, stepping up to want to parent his child wasn't enough. No, Lily decides she's willing to try working things out because she likes his mom 🙃 What? Can you imagine deciding someone is worth being with because you like one of their parents? Not because y'all are compatible (noway that makes for longevity of a relationship).
Finally, the ending was rushed. Lily storms out for no reason, gets into a helicopter crash that is pointless to the plot, and suddenly is so utterly in love with Carter she acts annoyingly mushy and is obsessed with him. No lead up. Just goes from running away to "We must get married". What?⁶?
LILY: My hot best friend was off-limits. Until one night…he wasn’t. … CARTER: I couldn’t resist my best friend any longer.
The Amazon synopsis clearly states that the FMC and MMC are best friends, yet the term itself is used only once—in regards to the two characters—within the actual story. A more apt description of their pre-pregnancy relationship would be work-friends-turned-f*ck-buddies. I didn’t mind their actual relationship dynamic, but the inaccurate description meant that my thought process wasn’t on the same page as the story itself; I thought I was reading a best-friends-to-lovers romance, so that’s the lens I viewed the content of the book through.
Overall, this was a pretty good story featuring some of my favorite storylines: a disapproving parent tries to break the FMC and MMC up; OW shows up and tries to drive FMC away, MMC fight for FMC against his own family.
I do wish that we got to see Carter and Lily as parents. Given the fact that this is the first book of a new series, it’s entirely possible that we’ll get to see the first-time parents in one of the follow-up stories.

This one was a random pick-up on Kindle Unlimited, and I wanted to see how this one would go. It sounded like it would be full of drama, but what drew me in was the surprise baby. It's a trope you either love or hate; it gets a lot of hate in the book world, but I usually love it. I have found some that get annoying, or it's barely in the book. Still, this one was at the forefront because they were trying to figure out how their relationships would even work since they were just a hookup. Still, then they end up going to his family home. Things went downhill because he came from a very old, wealthy family. They always expected him to take over the family business. Still, he doesn't want to deal with all that because he likes his life in the city and wants to do whatever will make Lily happy. They are insta-lovey. Since his family is old money, his dad hates anything that deviates from his plan, so when they arrive at his family home to meet everyone and announce their surprises, he goes into repair mode, which makes everything so much worse. My favorite character in this book was Victoria. She's the MMC's sister, and I just loved how she was all throughout the book. Overall, this was a good book; I got bored too much.
Carter Holden and Lily Mathews have worked together at a major news station for 5 years. The last 6 months have been more of a friends with benefits type of relationship until Lily finds out she's pregnant. Lily was adopted and, treated well until her parents had their "own child" and, forgot that Lily existed. That experience and, the story she has been following for the news channel about a couple's extremely contentious divorce that includes kids, has her deciding that she will have this child alone and, not allow Carter to have anything to do with the child or her. Carter is floored when Lily tries to get him to sign a legal form releasing him of all responsibility for THEIR BABY!!!Carter has some skeletons in his own closet as he is a billionaire with a family he wants Lily to meet. Problem is that Carter's father is trying to rob his wife of her family money as she's dying! The connection between Carter and Lily is explosive, confusing, devastating at times yet, always emotional with a true, unbreakable bond. I started this story in one evening and, finished it the next morning because I had to know what was going to happen!!!
There was plenty of love for Lily, Carter and their baby in the book!. by sewsummore
Lily and Carter had worked together for over five years but it was only in the last three months they had been hooking up and having sex when ever they could. When she found she was pregnant she needed to make some big changes in her life and she was not sure Carter would be there for the changes to come. He surprised her by asking her to marry him and of course she said no. She earned good money and was quite capable of raising the child on her own. Carter was not happy with her answer so compromises had to be reached. This was a heartwarming story of love and devotion. I loved Carter's character, he wanted to be the man in his child's life and more importantly he wanted to be the only man in Lily's life. There was greed, threats and intimidation in this story but plenty of love for Lily, Carter and their baby.

This whole thing was unbelievable like she start off by saying she think she’s pregnant, but there’s no way because they always use production and then we find out that they didn’t infect always use protection and that they were very loosey-goosey with it it’s like what the hell are you talking about. The FMC is so so so so so unlikable to me like how does she have the balls to say that she’s a good mother when she’s keeping a perfectly good father from his child because she doesn’t want to share that’s literally all that it is it’s because she doesn’t wanna share like no. She’s not like a wall at all like how selfish do you have to be to not only take a baby from its father but also to take a father from its baby and to have your baby grow up that way just because you’re selfish enough and don’t want to share.
This author was new to me. I like opposites attract books but sometimes find them a little much. This was was enjoyable and slightly different in hat we do not have the cat and mouse game but the main couple were already in a relationship - sort of. This story was the fall out, if you will, of circumstances in a relationship. The story flowed well and never seemed to waiver or stall. This was a quick read but I felt I could have had a bit more background on our girl to make her a bit more complete to me but overall it was an enjoyable read. I do feel that I might have gotten more from the main characters if I had had the stories from the other characters that appeared in this book.

Love and family is more important than money. Lily and Carter worked together at the news station for almost five years before hooking up. Lily is adopted and Carter comes from a wealthy family so they have nothing in common right? Wrong. Carter works hard as a anyone being an editor at the news room and Lily is the executive producer. They have just been having a secret fling for three months until Lily discovers she is pregnant. She is afraid that with Carter’s family’s wealth they could take her baby so she wants Carter to sign away his rights. But Carter has a secret, painful past and he refuses. Can they work this out, and what happens when his family finds out? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
Lily and Carter work together. And play together - friends with benefits. Carter has reached the point where he wants more from their relationship. But Lily's past with men won't let her go forward. The dynamic between them changes when she finds out she's pregnant. Very nice book to read - besides the romance, there's drama and suspense. I like Lily and Carter; their personalities mesh quite well even though they come from very different backgrounds. This is my second book from this series (I came in a bit late).

Must Keep You is Deborah Garland’s Darling Cove series featuring Carter Holden, wealthy editor at his family’s news station, and Lily Matthew, who is the executive producer of Carter’s family’s business. Carter and Lily had worked together for years, but they eventually succumbed to their strong sexual attraction which ends in an unexpected pregnancy. I recommend this heartfelt and compulsive read with its endearing characters and a mesmerizing plot which contains strong emotions, unexpected surprises, intrigue, secrets and suspense, and steamy romance.

What a good book. Carter and Lily had been working together at CNN for 5 years, but their relationship had changed to a casual hookup sort of thing. She gets pregnant and freaks out and tells him he doesn't need to be involved at all. Then he freaks out. They talk and then go to meet the parents (which does not go well). His mother is a sweetheart, but his dad is definitely not. When a near tragedy happens, Lily knows she must tell Carter how she really feels. I got this book from the author for an honest review and LOVED IT!. I hope to read more from this author soon
Such wonderful characterization and depth that will make the characters seem so lifelike! The author's writing plunged me right into the setting as I felt I was watching events unfold right in front of me and even experiencing them myself! Though this was my first read by Deborah Garland, I definitely won't be my last; it made me want to go and binge-read her previous releases especially those in that same series with the lovely Mallory family.

The drama and twists in this story is so believable and realistic, that you will feel like you are watching a movie and therefore need popcorn. The storyline was very well written, which made the characters and the story come together beautifully. This is the first book I have read from this author and this book ensures I will definitely be reading more from this author.
