Having suffered through yet another Season without, at the age of one and twenty, becoming betrothed or engaged to any of the vacuous young fops of Society, Lady Olivia Buchan is sent to stay with her mother’s cousin and her husband on their island home for the summer months. After which, Olivia is to go and live quietly at the family’s country estate in the wilds of Yorkshire, well away from London Society, and any possibility of her unmarried status ruining her two younger sisters’ future chances of a betrothal and marriage.
What her mother couldn’t have known when she sent Olivia away is that three of His Majesty’s ships and their crews are currently visiting the island, at the behest of the Prince Regent, as his representatives during the island’s summer celebrations. Those ships are under the command of the tall and imposing Admiral Lord Magnus Forsythe, Earl of Rockborne. A gentleman known to be a hero during the long years of sea battles against the French.
One look at this haughtily magnificent and unmarried Rockborne and Olivia knows exactly why none of London’s pretentious young men have ever appealed to her. They could never compete with such mature and masculine perfection.
Unfortunately, Rockborne takes that same look at Olivia and thereafter attempts to avoid her company.
But Olivia, having seen the only man she could ever consider taking as her husband, will not be deterred so easily.
Not even when a scandal from Magnus’s past, involving her own family, is revealed.

Sinful, Book 4 of the Regency Scandal series, was about 37-year-old Admiral Lord Magnus Forsythe, Earl of Rockborne, and 21-year-old Lady Olivia Buchan, the eldest daughter of the Earl and Countess of Aldrich. After another unsuccessful season, Olivia's mother determined to send her to live with family at their home in Douglas on the Isle of Man in order for her to NOT hinder her two younger sisters from finding their own matches. While there during the town's celebration, Olivia encountered and became enthralled with, the Earl of Rockborne, although at first, it did not seem as though he felt the same about her. What Olivia didn't know was that her aunt, the former Emelia Brigham had attempted to ruin Magnus' career 18 years earlier, which had, understandably, left a bad taste in his mouth, and made him decide to avoid her niece as much as he could. Except, Magnus found himself drawn to and captivated by Olivia. He also, upon their first conversation, realized he liked both her forthright way of talking and her as a person. Although he had asked her to save a dance for him at the ball where they met, Magnus chickened out and did not stay long enough to fulfill that request. Instead, he returned to his ship. After an incident aboard Magnus' ship, Olivia's cousin Franny (whom she tended to refer to as her aunt), informed her of the scandal between Magnus and her mother's now-deceased younger sister. As she learned of the scandal involving her late aunt and Magnus, she was also informed that she was the spitting image of the woman she now believed had been Magnus' lost love. That realization made her determined to not become a replacement for her long-deceased aunt where Magnus was concerned, so she decided to avoid any further contact with him. However, he now had other ideas, contrary to hers. He wanted to spend more time with her and he did not enjoy the fact she was avoiding him. But then he learned that Olivia had been made privy to what had happened between him and her aunt, and he was desperate to resolve things between them and set her mind at ease. Of the four books in the series, this was...by far...the best. It had a ton of angst and drama, so many secrets and revelations, a smidge of humor, and a good deal of passion. It kept the reader sitting on the edge of the seat, waiting for the next shoe to drop. There was a good deal of push/pull between the two main characters, but they were both very likable and mature and very well developed. The main reason it only received a four-star rating was due to the many grammatical errors and the repetition that was unnecessary.
A beautiful sensual read with lots of fun. Lady Olivia knew what she wanted which was Admiral Lord Magnus Forsyth from first catching sight of him. But due to bitter memories, he fought the attraction until he could no longer give in to his feelings. Magnus was a lot older than Olivia but as with all Carole’s books, love is ageless and if you are soul mates nothing can stand in your way. Full of steamy moments, another amazing read which I couldn’t put down until the end.
I can’t wait for Carole’s next book, every story I have read has touched my heart in different ways
As I have stated before there is little feeling for this period within this novel. The niggle I continue to have about this (and some of her other so called erotic historical romance) is the lack of knowledge about the historical romance genre and Mortimer makes the mistake of incorporating modernism into it. Explicit language between the characters is more of a modern theme than of Regency times (other than in a men's club). Also the easier sexual relationships are more of a modern feel than of a historical one.
Loved, loved, loved this story! Oh my! What a delicious scandal! Loved this trope - older man and younger lady. Also couldn't help loving the brazen forwardness of Olivia. She said and did exactly what she wanted to and this was so refreshing. Magnus comes across as quite a stern character but when it comes to Olivia he is putty in her arms. The story is well written with a bit of heat and many a good laugh and so it is definitely on my recommended list!
Magnus and Olivia are what we all could imagine love is, and Olivia's parents is what love isn't. Ms. Mortimer has once again written another page turner. Taking us back to an age where life is slower, where a modem of propriety exist and is expected to be followed. Where the reader can nearly feel like their there between the pages. No cheating or cliffhanger and you get the beginning of a happy ever after. Enjoy 🤓
I always enjoy reading this author , she writes with passion and sensuality. The characters are feisty and charming . Always a great fun read with plenty of entertainment in and out of the bedroom .👍🙂
A sensual regency romance that hit the mark for me. Lady Olivia and Admiral Lord Magnus have attraction and passion aplenty from the start and not even a family scandal stands in their way towards a satisfying happy ending.
This is yet another wonderfully crafted story that is a great continuation of this series. All the characters are well thought out and portrayed brilliantly. This steamy plot will keep you enthralled from start to finish.
