Destiny can be a witch… or an ancient elven mystic.

Bree is a high-school witch, but not if her dad gets his way. Magic is not allowed under his roof. He says if Bree ignores the ability, it will go away. She doesn’t agree. How can she deny who she truly is?

The moon’s energy is intense on the anniversary of her mom’s death. Something magical is working overtime to get her out of her dad’s house and to her brother’s coven for a celestial-bound ceremony, an opening of communications between worlds. An ancient elven mystic from the other world wants Bree present. Wants Bree to be The One—her chosen successor.

What does being The One mean? Absorbing the knowledge, understanding, and magical strength of the ancient elf. Becoming the new mystic to the Balance Bringer. But becoming The One also means leaving her family and friends, her entire world…forever. Even if Bree were to agree to such a sacrifice, other forces want to make sure that doesn’t happen. And they’re willing to do just about anything to stop her.

Entertaining magical adventure for witch Bree! Fun action too! This series has connection to The Balance Bringer series; that series was really great, so I was excited for this one. Lots of unique ideas make for an intriguing read! Bree’s mom died, and her dad has put a veto on any magic usage, but Bree isn’t having it and decides to leave her home. Things definitely take a turn she wasn’t expecting! Just an enjoyable read!

This is book one of The Balance Bringer Origins series and tells the story of high-school witch Bree, who is faced with a difficult decision about her future. Her mother died some years ago and their non-magical father has refused to allow any magic in his house, forcing her older brother to leave as soon as he could. Her father forced her to see doctor’s and take medicine, in an attempt to get her to deal with her mother’s death, but also to make her deny her magical abilities. He believes that if she doesn’t use them, that her magic will go away! A strong confluence of the planets on the anniversary of her mother’s death, bring about a strong pull for her to leave home and travel to her brother. She is pulled to follow him to a meeting with other witches, where they are actively trying to open a path of communications between different worlds. She is drawn to the large rock on the table, in the middle of the gathering, and touching it transports her to an ancient eleven mystic, who has lived for many lifetimes awaiting her emergence. This ancient mystic wants Bree to take over for her.
Bree is destined to be the new mystic to the Balance Bringer, but first she will be tested, to find out if she truly has what it takes to become the One. There are some who will help her on her way, but others who want to put a stop to her taking over this ancient role and bringing forth the Balance Bringer. Her brother Nik is involved with a coven of witches in the city, led by Poppy, along with Tammy who seems to hate Bree and the troubled Micka, who is running from family. A fellow student, Ryland, seems to turn up in the strangest of circumstances and is also impervious to injury, yet turns up when she needs a hand. Bree’s magic is pretty chaotic and out of her own control, more reactive to her emotions, than to her untrained hands. Her brother has had more opportunity to follow their mother’s legacy of magic, whilst Bree has been limited by her father’s rules, blaming magic for his wife’s death. If she takes on this new power and all the magic it involves, she will have to leave all of her friends and family behind, even the whole world she is used to living in. She has to work through a few strange and possible odd scenarios and learn more about her magic and her ancestors along the way. She learns who the Balance Bringer is and there is more to come in this origins story. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Debra Kristi has the wonderful talent of grabbing you from the first page and taking you along for a great ride right to the end. Here main characters are very likeable especially Bree and you root for her from the beginning. Bree's mother died and her father blames it on magic. So, he tries very hard to suppress Bee's abilities which she inherited from her mother thinking if she can't use them they will go away. Bree, however, is drawn to who she is and leaves home to be with her brother who also has magic. Without giving anything away, Bree is very naive when it comes to who she is and how her magic can affect her and all around her and why supernaturals good and bad want her. As she is trying to find out who she is exactly while staying with her brother, while an old mystic wants Bree to be The One to succeed the mystic. What would that mean for Bree and who wants to stop her. We watch as she matures and comes of age. I don't want to give anything else away. I just couldn't put the book down. And you won't be able to either once you start! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

This is one of the beginnings of one Balance Bringer and her Mystics. Brenda, or Bree lost her mom to a car hitting a tree and had experienced a bizarre pulling. She is also a witch with powers as is her brother, Nick. Their father does not want her using magick and will prevent her using it at all costs. Bree ends up running to her brother after receiving several messages. She is to help him…or so she thinks~ Her world becomes even stranger when she meets an older woman that she is supposed to take the place of for the Balance Bringer. Bree will experience many adventures in a very short duration. She will learn about her true fate and that of the others involved. It gives us a glimpse of what happened before Ana actually became the Balance Bringer~ At the end, the author managed to link two worlds together she created! Will Bree embrace her destiny or ignore it? This is another fabulous addition to the world of the Balance Bringer~

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

How often happens this that now twice in a row, in mere days, a book gives me the chills through up my spine? Even though this book was less intense, it was still captivating to keep reading on. As we are thrown in a world of witches. When I read this, there must have been a lot of background exploring to captivate a world of witches this well.

This action/magic filled story is about Bree, who knows she has magic but her father doesn’t agree and tries to damp down on her ability through medication. This happened after her mother was killed in the accident and somehow, she still feels responsible for it. One her mother’s death anniversary, things start to go south ways. Its starts with a series of synchronicities where she meets Ryland briefly and ends up staying with her brother Nick in L.A. But nothing is as it seems, not even her own world.

The world building of witches is amazing and the characters are very well thought out, matching the elements. Bree doesn’t only have to deal with her own world but also the world in the other dimensions when she is on trial. Will she succeed in her mission or go mad? And then there is this mystery boy that seems to follow her. What does he want from her?

It is a swirling storm of elements, water, fire, earth, air but also spirituality, magic, friendship, family and the bigger picture as the story relates to the Balance Bringer books. Amazing read and definitely worth it.

Our heroine feels she has a destiny, but that destiny comes at a price. And to make matters worse, there are some that don't want her to assume her destiny under any circumstances.

This is book one of the series, so a fine place to start.

This is an urban fantasy story with a young adult bent to it. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting that seems more dream than reality, at least at the beginning. The characters are also well done. I really liked out heroine and watching her struggle to find her path. Overall, I enjoyed the introduction to a new world and look forward to seeing where it leads.

Highly recommended.

Bree (Brenda) is still grieving the loss of her mother, and her Dad blames magick for ruining their lives and the loss of his wife. Hence why he is trying to stop Bree from practicing magick at all. Bree is fed up with her father's rules about magick, and leaves. She travels to her brother's place, while she sorts herself out. What will she discover about magick without all the restrictions? What destiny awaits her? I loved this magical book, the supernatural elements of it, Bree's strength and belief in herself (and how easy she was to love), it certainly was a page turner for me.

Wonderful read.
I have loved every book in this Balance Bringer fantasy series, this one is no exception.
Absolutely no spoilers from me except to say this one is right at the beginning of the story but it is no less exciting than the rest.
Intense, exciting definitely magical. So easy to become engrossed in this and swept along with the story. Such a page turner.
I wish I could tell you all about it. My mind is still buzzing and I want to stay in Bree’s world, not this one. I suppose I have to make do with waiting for the next tantalizing creation of Debra.

If you haven’t gathered by now, it’s a must read.

Bree is a high school girl with magic, which she inherited through her mother. Both her and her brother have it. Her father doesn't like magic and won't have it used in their house. On the anniversary of her mother's death, things come to a head and she runs away to the city to stay with her brother. He understands. It turns out that they are descended from elves and an ancient elf who has been the balance bringer for hundreds of years. This elf wants Bree to be her replacement, but Bree would have to leave everything and everyone behind and go to another world. She doesn't know if she can do it - and there are forces working against her.

Everyone is after her!

Magick is in her blood but Bree’s father forbids her to use it and running away to her brother has only caused more trouble. Her father wants her back home and in class at her high school. Everyone else in the paranormal world wants to capture or control her. If only her mother was still alive to tell her what to do.

This is a great series starter! This book is full of paranormal action. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I received an advance copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

Talk about being thrown in the deep end of the pool! Bree has not been taught much about magic or how to wield it. Suddenly, she has to use it to save the world?!
This a coming of age story about a young girl who is suddenly thrown into a battle she cannot comprehend against a formidable enemy. She is rebelling against her father and his antiquated notions. It is, by turn, humorous, depressing, and bloody. In other words, well worth yout time.

Bree has to figure out what she is and how to control it. She knows she has magick but not much more. When she gets the vibe to go see her brother things start to happen. What I really liked about this book is that characters from other books show up in this book. Bree is a strong character who becomes stronger and willing to take on the task allotted to her. A good read that I would recommend to all. This book connects to the Balance Bringer - Becoming.

This book grabs your attention from the first page. It is one of those books that you hate to get to the end!
Bree is thrown headfirst into the deep end when she rebels against the ban on magick that her father has imposed. She feels compelled to visit her brother and sneaks out of the house. This is when her life changes forever for the second time.
I adore the YA books written by this author. Mystic Maker does not disappoint!

Bree is finding her magic
This is my first book by this author, and I have to say WOW! I found a new author, and some new books/series to read!
Bree has magic, but her father forbids the use of it in his household, thus forcing Bree, a high schooler, to visit her brother who also has magic. She needs to figure out how to use her own magic!

Such a good book! Bree is a teen who is dealing with a lot. Her mom died in a car accident that Bree blames herself for and her dad bans magic from the house. But magic is a part of Bree and she cant deny it. Shes pulled to her brother in LA by an unseen force and touches a stone that shows her things beyond her wildest imagination. A battle is coming and Bree has to be prepared but shes still learning who to trust.

Bree is a smart, spunky character and her brother Nick is a sweetie. I like Ryland instantly and Micka is awesome.

Wow! Such an interesting read! I was truly spellbound and couldn’t put it down! Wanting to be something you aren’t is hard enough as it is, but trying to do it in the face of a parents denial…downright crazy. The lengths she goes to follow this path and prove she’s not a child… phenomenal. I anxiously await the next book and wholeheartedly recommend this one!

A good story that introduces Bree a high school witch with a father that blames magic and forbids it in his house. Thus forcing Bree on an adventure. It is a story of how Bree goes from a naive teen and learns the cost of magic and what she can do. It was a good story with interesting and fun characters and entertaining to read. Had to see what Bree would face, who she would meet, and what kind of life she would have based on what she faced. Enjoyed it.

Bree is 15-years-old and has inherited magic that she cannot control. Her brother Nick is magical also and is a practicing witch. When Bree runs away from home due to her overbearing dad, she winds up crashing a coven gathering, meeting new friends, being kidnapped, and saving the current world. This story has definitely got it going on and ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.

A page turner. We have so much mystery, suspense, and adventure. Entertaining magical adventure for witch Bree! Fun action too! This series has connection to The Balance Bringer series, though I have not read any of those books. This book is well written with characters, like Bree, that I can get behind and root for. I have no patience for a weak or wishy washy character and I have stopped reading books because of them. This was not the case here!

This book was definitely a fun read. During this time of reading this book, I was given a choice to go play video games, and I totally chose the book. That says a lot. You know the book is good if you chose it over video games.

This book was very hard to put down. And I would recommend it to ages 16 and up, in my opinion, because this is not a book with steam in it, but it does have a couple of serious situations in it. Overall, this was a wonderful book and completely enjoyable.

I really love getting more of the story on another character in this series. I also really enjoy that you get some information about the world and some action at the same time. I enjoyed that this spin off is a bit different from the main series, but it is still really good and keeps the pages turning all on its own. This is a great addition to the world of the Balance Bringer.
