Got 106 pages in. The protagonists are just gross people that it felt like the author was trying to channel some variety of masculinity through, but it just made them jerks. This is supposed to be a love triangle and a good author would make it sort of clear what makes each character worth pursuing, but this one just seems like a woman with a pile of garbage on one side and a pile of rubbish on the other. I finally was done when the character that was supposed to be the seemingly more level-headed one is turned down when he basically assaults a woman, gets turned down, then sends for a 14 year-old slave girl to be sent to his tent who he also assaults because he's frustrated.

This book was published in 1961. Though the photo and cover on good reads has a 2000 publication date. A first edition in my collection was published 1961 by Appleton-Crofts, Inc.
