A new Fairweather sister, Jane, is of age, but woe betides, she does not want to marry. She is a brilliant artist and determined to make a name for herself in the male-dominated field. Enter Mrs Fairweather, a determined mother who will go to any length to get her daughter married off.
Alas, through trickery, Jane finds herself taking her wedding vows wrapped in a quilt and wearing only a chemise. Poor Jane is yanked from her dull life in Finnshire and thrust into a world full of strange in-laws, meddling sisters and a devilishly handsome husband, whose kisses begin to make her waver in her resolve to keep her heart locked against love.
The madcap world of a Fairweather Sister is ready to take you on a well-sprung carriage ride once again...
Anya Wylde lives in Ireland along with her husband and a fat French poodle (now on a diet). She can cook a mean curry, and her idea of exercise is occasionally stretching her toes. She holds a degree in English literature and adores reading and writing.
After being rushed along in the wake of the previous Fairweather Sisters and their madcap romantic adventures, I was tickled to spot another Fairweather coming of age and embarking on her own Regency era romantic romp. I love this author's zany tales of ladies figuring out their lives and loves so I snatch up each new release eagerly.
Jane Fairweather is the fourth in a series. Each sister gets her story and I did find it worked best in order so the mentions of previous activities and the sisters made better sense.
Jane has come of age, but she has no desire to marry and go on to husband and family. Her true love is her art (and her true fear is loss of independence and dying in the child bed). She will go to any length to thwart her matchmaking mother's efforts to pair her off so her mother gets drastic. There might have been a plotted compromise, a kidnapping, a bit of blackmail, and a run for the border involved. Jane can't blame the duped, wealthy lord who is not stuck with her because he can't stand the sight of her and wants nothing to do with her. What had her mother and sisters been thinking? With time, she grows content with her new husband's relations and home and finds solace in her art while her husband makes himself scarce and goes about his life. But, for some reason, this arrangement doesn't suit the Fairweather sisters and they enter stage left once again...
I confess that that early business on the part of her mother and sisters didn't set well with me even if this is a comedy. They truly didn't know the man they married Jane to and they left her alone with someone who thought she was part of the compromise ploy and forced marriage. Then, weeks later, they belatedly start to get worried? Too little; too late in my book. But, it is a romance and a forced marriage plot that I delight in. I enjoyed this one once the hinky beginning was past. Jane has some deep-seated issues that made her fear relationships and marriage and she learns to get past them with the surprising man her husband turns out to be and his family just as Jane helps Savill through his private pain of a parent with a mental health issue which is probably our present day Alzheimer's.
Jane is a loo loo and does the wackiest things to get her way around the stony Savill. I loved that she is an artist and it was both an outlet for her, but also helped her really see herself better. There was also her fun friendships and the fab scenes when all the sisters were together. Savill was a stand up guy once he could get past the dirty trick Jane's family played on him and come to appreciate her as a wife. I loved seeing them build a relationship in their own nutty way.
All in all, it was a quick, light romp that got over the top comedy paired with regency romance that hit the spot. Looking forward to the precocious Elizabeth the last of the Fairweather sisters to get her story. So, this will be for those who can appreciate overt slapstick comedy paired with a light and sweet Regency romance.
Be aware that this is a MADCAP regency romance and as the name suggests, it is over the top, filled with eccentricities and the ridiculous. Men swoon over simple things, the heroine is a volatile, emotional spitfire and there is a cheetah as a house pet. Amazingly, there is also a story in there that, surprisingly, has some depth. The thread of his father's issues is not carried all the way through the story, unfortunately. In fact the older couple almost disappear from the story after playing a major role, which was a tad disappointing. Towards the end there are a few nonsensical sentences here and there. The epilogue is more about the next sister; it is like an introduction to the next book though it does throw in some final info about the MC's. Overall, lots of laughs and a story that shows the heroine change and overcome some issues. Don't expect prim and proper and 'that would never happen' in this book. Over the top, tongue in cheek humour is the order of the day in this story. (This is like a spoof movie in book form of the regency era)
Jane is an artist and that is how she wants to make her way in the world. Her mother wants her married and takes matters into her own hands. She finds a husband for Jane. Her sisters may have played a part in this also. Her new husband thinks Jane was part of the ploy to dupe him into marrying her. At first, they each live their own lives and stay away from each other. After a while, they work problems out and get to know each other better. There is trickery, kidnapping, blackmail, a run for the border, sweet romance. and twists that will keep you turning pages. The plot is well thought out and the story is well-written. There are wonderful characters and this book is hilarious, I was laughing out loud. You really should read this. I think you will love it too. I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
If you are a stickler for Regency authenticity, the Fairweather sisters will give you the vapors. Tuck your smelling salts in your reticule. You've been warned.
Completely implausible things happen in Anya Wilde's regency romances, and thank goodness for that. The beginning of Jane's story is wonderfully absurd, a Maguffin, a mere trigger for her story to begin. If you insist upon disapproving of her family's plot to see Jane unwillingly married, you might deny yourself the enjoyment of all that follows.
I am a huge fan of humor which makes no sense, and Jane Fairweather's story, like those of her sisters, is full of the kind of quirky details (ie. Mr. and Mrs. Williams) that I enjoy. But it's also full of well developed characters and truly described emotion. I shed more than a few tears while reading.
Spending time with Jane Fairweather has been a delight, but I note with some concern that there is but one unmarried Fairweather sister remaining. Oh dear.
This Regency novel was about Jane Fairweather, one of several sisters and is a very talented artist, is forced into marriage with the Earl of Savill, an extreme wealthy peer who has been coerced into marriage too.
The first part of the story was irritating as both characters acted in a childish and immature manner instead of accepting their joint situation and moving on as adults should. Once you get past the first half of the story and the poor behaviour, the story improved and the main characters finally starting acting with some maturity.
There are many auxiliary characters and odd pets in the Savill household and this story has some endearing parts. I didn't feel that the Earl's character was as well developed as Jane's and the reader does not have his perspective which I don't enjoy as I like to dwell into each character's thoughts.
It was a nice enough story but not fully historically correct. I rate this book 3.75*.
Oh how I LOVE Anya Wylde's Madcap Regency books. They are super funny (real laugh out loud moments - don't drink coffee when reading as you will spit the coffee out due to laughter), crazy antics and just the sweetest, heart melting romance ever. And this book had it in abundance!!! In the book we have Jane, an artist who does not want to be married, but nothing goes as she wants nor plans and what follows is a hilarious romcom in the regency era that had me ignoring work as I simply could not put the book down. What I love about Anya's heroines is the fact that they are strong (not simpering) ladies that keep the men around them on their toes. Never a dull or boring moment in the book
This book was so delicious to read😍😍. Jane was a total knucklehead🤣🤣, very crazy woman! Lol, I fell so in love with her😅😅😅.
I disliked the hero - Lord Savil, rather. He was so immature and disrespectful to Jane. And he gave her crumbs of affection. I did not see any emotional intimacy between them. I like my heroes Responsible, mature, caring, loving, taking charge, and very emotionally available, as well as emotionally intelligent. Lord Savil was the complete opposite. He was so childish and it was upsetting to read his parts. Yet, the fact that this book has me falling over with laughter tells of what a brilliant and talented writer Anya is😍😍.
Meanwhile, I am a Romance writer as well. Check out my book: Our Happy Ending, by Geraldine Gerald, on Goodreads 🥰
The first chapter of Jane Fairweather by Anya Wylde is by far the funniest I have read, and the humorous scenes continue though out this enemies to lovers romance.
Fear not, if you like angst, there is plenty of that emotion due to the baggage carried by each of the lead characters. Ms.Wylde did a fine job of giving depth to the hero and heroine without neglecting the supporting characters.
Another facet that makes this such an entertaining read is the balanced (dialogue, descriptions and thoughts) style of the author, which keeps up the pace and moves the scenes toward a happy ending a sweet epilogue.
Content 411: This is a clean read. Other than some kissing, there is no swearing or sex.
Jane is strong willed, single minded, and ready to continue to achieve her life's ambition; that of becoming one of England's great artists. Tripping in the garden at a ball, she finds herself falling... into the arms of a stranger. The sleeve of her ball gown is torn away from her dress without her realizing what has happened, until her mother and sisters descend upon her rescuer to defend her dignity! Given Jane's temperament, and total lack of desire to marry, she's not going to like what happens next (but you will)!
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the banter between the characters and especially like the heroine who was talented and strong. The comical pieces were a bit much for me at time as they bordered on ridiculous - I reference the persons head appearing on the dinner table as an example. However overall a good read that kept my attention. The romance was slow to build which was good. It would have been nice to have a bit more content on their relationship post their love declarations. Worth a read.
I absolutely love EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK. From the start, I felt giddy and happy to be with everyone I love and care about, whether family, beloved scoundrels such as highwaymen, pirates, etc. I was either grinning or laughing out loud the entire time I read this book. I simply did not want the story to end and when it did I immediately wanted to jump into the next book. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’ve read the entire series and this edition was the best one yet. It had me crying for Jane’s situation within the first 20 minutes and I found myself want to shake her mother silly. As Jane and Richards got to know one another my emotions became involved and I had to force myself to put the book down to get some sleep. It’s wonderful. I looking forward to Lizzy’s story.
I could write ten pages on how this book was ludicrous, farcical, amateurish, clumsy and painful to read. But why waste my time. Suffice it to say, by the end of the book, I disliked every character in the story; they were all, to varying degrees, mentally and emotionally disturbed. So if you’re looking for an enjoyable read, I suggest you look elsewhere. I doubt I will ever be buying or reading anything more from this author.
Unfortunately, this book was not a patch on the first three. Had I not known this was written by Anya Wylde, I would have thought it was by another author. It felt as if I was reading a draft. The main characters lacked chemistry, Anya's amazing humour was missing, and there were unclear and unresolved plot lines. Further, the ending, particularly the 'HEA moment', was ruined by the confusing dialogue between the characters.
Another sister, another chaotic, romantic dilemma. Unknown to her, Jane's mother sets her up to be caught in a compromising position with a man she's never met. Then the chaos begins. Loads of humor and angst, accidents, hatred, and romance. The other sisters show up, along with Jimmy, the Highwayman. Highly recommend.
Heartbreaking, heartsore, heartless, heartfelt, heart throbbing, heartwarming…hearts full of love. It’s a painful rollercoaster ride through the constant upheaval of emotions. It is worth holding on tight and riding to the end. Horribly heartaching while also fabulously funny. H recommend you read it.
Anya Wylde does it again with another hilarious madcap regency romance. With quirky characters and plot twists you will surely be entertained and laughing out loud at their over the top antics. It's a fun, light and clean read!
This book was so funny that I laughed out loud at the escapades. It is not a serious book but fun all the same. Start with the first Fairweather sister and read all 4 books! Guaranteed to make you smile.
I have read this author's prior books in this series, as well as her Lord Adair/Lucy Trotter books and I find her characters usually quirky and interesting. Unfortunately, I did not like either of the main characters and the story was not remotely believable.
Always love reading a Anya Wylde regency based book. Never fails to make me smile and wile away a few hours. Pleased that she has written another book - it’s been too long! Enjoy!!
I absolutely loved this book! It is so much fun to read a book that makes you laugh. The characters are entertaining and engaging. It was nice to meet some of "characters" from the other books in the series. I can't wait to read Elizabeth's story.
I loved loved this book. I so en joy Regency romantic comedy. It had everything you could imagine in this story. Anybody will love reading this book. I hope you write more along these lines, Anya.
Entertaining and different. I fell in love with these wild, wonderful, wacky sisters as each of them find love.. full of love and hijinks and emotional character growth. It leaves you wanting more.
