I usually struggle with Kindle Vella stories (as a full book), they often feel disjointed, but Wolf was a pleasant surprise.
Former FBI, Mia is a total badass, maybe too much. I got SO tired of her saying she didn’t need his protection or help. I get that she doesn’t understand she’s dealing with shifters, but even after she knows, she’s still pretending she can somehow survive a battle with a dominate wolf?
Seth is intense, brooding, and very alpha, but without completely steamrolling her.

And the mate bond feels rushed and then never really resolved. But phew, their chemistry was HOT and their intimate scenes, very primal.

Mia talks to Seth as he’s held in jail waiting for bail to be set and finds Seth compelling. As her investigation continues, additional deaths are found and threats to her are increasing.
Mia is smart and diligent and I admire her dedication to her family. Seth is arrogant and I wasn’t so sure about him. He is an alpha so I guess we give him a little leeway? In the end, he proves his loyalty to the right person and situation.
I want to know more about brother Erik and how he changes.

With a dash of suspense and intrigue, and enough sexual tension to set a forest fire, WOLF is paranormal shifter romance at its absolute best.
We get a kick-ass, no-nonsense heroine in ex-FBI profiler Mia Stone, who is passing through small-town Washington (state), after an old colleague requests her input on a strange murder case he’s investigating as the recently appointed town Sheriff.
The initial suspect, Seth Volk, is proving more of a challenge than expected. He’s local royalty, according to how other townsfolk defer to him, and although Mia doesn’t quite believe he’s guilty of this murder, she can tell he’s definitely capable of such, with his dangerous, intelligent (and damn sexy) demeanour.
Mia and Seth’s attraction and pull is undeniable and immediate, but Mia’s frustration at the towns unhelpfulness and obvious deception towards outsiders such as herself, keeps her weary of trusting the sexy man who seemingly wants justice, but keeps getting in between the line of the law and his adamant belief that as locals, they can handle the situation themselves.
Something is off and Mia knows it, but the more she gets involved in the case and in Seth’s personal life, everything she thought she knew gets turned on its head, putting her skills, judgement, and her once-barricaded heart on the literal line of life and death.
This was one of those rare gems of a book that had me hook, line, and sinker from the opening page. I loved the writing, I loved the strong, complex characters, and I loved the romantic suspense vibe of it all. Throw in the paranormal elements and I was one happy reader.
This was my very first Rebecca Zanetti book but I’m confident it will only be the beginning of my readership. Reading the sequel, Alpha, is an absolute no-brainer for me—I had a blast with this!

Well, 2 things that had this one falling short for me. 1. Mia was annoying with all her "I'm a trained officer" and "I'm going to arrest so and so," and bla bla bla. 2. There just wasn't enough wolf/ PN stuff happening. Plus... well, I can't really say, but the ending was a let down for me on the PN front too. Happy reading!

I can't believe I disregarded the clues that were there for who the real killer was! Shame on me LMBO
This was HIGH on the suspense and mystery. So many times I thought for sure I had figured it out and so many times I was wrong!
Filled with action.
One of my favorite things was there was NOTHING insta. No insta love and NO insta reveal for Mia about exactly what Seth and most of the town people are. It definitely added a huge dose of realism to the PNR element.
There was a lot going on and while we get answers for this case there's another killer out there and heading Mia's way. That's what the next book is about.
The steam is perfect. We get a lot of intense attraction between these two but they don't even kiss till somewhere past the 40 or 50% mark. When their heat finally EXPLODES! The sex scenes are hot, intense. It's definitely a Slow Burn.
So many things going on. So much action. So many TWIST!
It definitely kept me on my toes.

Mia Stone, an FBI profiler, agrees to help a small-town sheriff in Lost Lake as she settles her mom and her career after her last case ended with her mother being kidnapped by a serial killer and a disagreement with her colleagues. She is asked to interview a suspect in a recent murder. Seth Volk, didn’t kill the victim, but he takes care of his own and justice will be served.
I love romantic suspense. When you mix in some alpha shifters in a town of mostly shifters, cannot help but be all in.
Wolf unpacks a lot. We have Mia, her mother and aunt who are getting settled in a cabin by the lake, then we have Seth, the pack enforcer and trouble within the pack itself. All of which will lay the groundwork for the series arc.
Mia knows nothing of the shifter world, but she can sense a predator. I loved the tango that they danced. Their attraction felt genuine, and watching these two wrestle for dominance was delightful. Seth is all alpha and his wolf quickly decides Mia is his. Mia believes in the law and will stop at nothing to find the truth, but can she trust Seth?
Mia’s backstory was interesting, and foreshadowing tells us the trouble she left behind is circling. The trouble within the packs is far-reaching, and the tension is building. I look forward to Alpha, the next novel releasing in March 2023.
Fans of shifters, alphas and murder-mysteries will enjoy this action-packed romantic suspense.

July 6, 2024Someone let me know when this book isn’t on Kindle Vella 😠 stopping after every chapter to purchase the next one is extremely jarring. I was really enjoying the story, just couldn’t stand the format!

This felt a bit different from the authors usual. I liked it but it also had some things I didn't like. Seth is the best thing about this book. Mia's stubbornness was a bit too much in parts of the story, but I really liked how Seth reacted to that stubbornness. I prefer a paranormal story where the pack members have each others backs and see each other as family. That's usually what you get from this author. This is where I think she stepped away and did something different. This has more of a "only the toughest survive" theme going for it. It felt less family like and they had to watch their backs against their own. However, I am pretty interested to see what the next book entails.

I love all of Rebecca's stories. I also love tough, strong, domineering alpha heroes. That being said, I enjoyed this story but I had trouble with the sexist topic being one of the main issues (besides the difference in species) between the couple. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe I just didn't feel the love between the main characters, although their chemistry was sizzling hot.
I can't wait to read more in the series and see how it develops though.

I came out of Rebecca Zanetti's 'Wolf' with mixed feelings, particularly after its brilliant, brutal start. The paranormal takes a back seat until the packs are unwittingly revealed as Mia Stone dives deeper into her journey of investigating violent murders. But unlike Zanetti's previous series, the Stope Pack one--judging from the first book--is one that's unapologetically tinged with violence, claustrophobic environments and dodgy people who are unwilling to talk to outsiders minus the odd inserts of humour or ill-timed jokes.
That there were 2 sets of laws wolf-shifters and humans abided by had been sort of made clear from the start, but I really needed to read (and even welcomed) Mia's insistence that Seth Volk respected her career, her standing and her identity apart from the rather misogynistic ways of the small town of shifters. But while that was good to see Mia trying to stand up for herself, it was equally frustrating to see that stalemate when Seth simply chose to use the 'this is our way' line of reasoning to railroad these principles that he just couldn't or wanted to stand by.
What I honestly found revolting (speaking as a contemporary romance consumer who hardly has visceral reactions to the romance-syfy-fantasty genre) was the rather uncivilised mode of justice, barbaric alpha-female dynamics and the awful dog-sniffing patriarchal hierarchy that have been incorporated into Zanetti's shifter culture. Maybe it's not my cup of tea personally, but I think I'd like to see a little more respect given to women in a way that doesn't feel like grudging concessions.
The mystery and the twists and turns were good nonetheless, but 'Wolf' didn't have an ending in a way I thought I could be satisfied with. It's a hurried HFN; there's a sequel on the horizon presumably looking to explore Seth's new role of the Alpha and the new mated relationship he's got going with Mia. I wish I could be more enthused given I do like some shifters in my reading arsenal, but that I'm just that tad bit too put out at the moment to consider going on.

I enjoyed it, but I struggled a bit with the sexist bullshit. I'm not sure how that's going to work out for me going forward ... but I'm hopeful because Mia (lead female) seems like she is not going to tolerate being belittled into a submissive "little woman" role in this backwater misogynistic town.
But I'm still concerned, because when she puts her foot down, Seth just manhandles her into compliance, and she does cave.
I'm hoping they can find better balance, and this series doesn't become a slog of watching this strong female character get hammered down into a subservient 1950s housewife.
I'm also going to say I rolled my eyes a bit about how much disdain these guys had for law / government / society. Like, this lady is FBI. It is unrealistic for them to act like they are this untouchable, and it was a little odd. Generally in PNR/UF, the supes have a healthy fear of humanity because just in terms of raw numbers, if it came to war they would be wiped out. These supes don't give a fuck, don't think laws apply to them, and don't even think they have to hide that fact. It's really weird.

The first book in the Stope Packs series, this story was originally released in kindle vella, and is now available as a full-length novel. It’s an intense and exciting paranormal romantic suspense, and a really strong series starter, and I loved it.
Mia Stone is an ex-FBI profiler whose career imploded, so when she’s offered the chance to investigate a murder with an old colleague in a small mining town, she jumps at the opportunity. The key suspect is Seth Volk, who inconveniently captivates her from the moment she lays eyes on him, but she is sure that he is hiding something. In fact, it seems the whole town is hiding something, and when more women are murdered, it turns out that Seth is her closest source to finding out what is going on.
Seth is, in fact, hiding a big secret. He’s a wolf shifter, and an Enforcer for his pack, which is something we know from the beginning, but Mia does not. I loved the little clues and hints dropped, I loved trying to figure aspects of the story out with that ‘secret’ knowledge, and I loved watching Mia delve further and further into Seth’s world without even realising it. And when she finally discovers the big secret, things just get even more complicated considering the mad attraction between them both. And as human law and pack law collide, Mia finds herself right in the middle of it all, having to rely on Seth for her very survival – which is right where he wants her.
It’s a great set-up, and Zanetti writes it so well. The mystery/suspense element is strong, with lots of shady characters around town, and I was constantly guessing who the bad guy was… and I was wrong right up until the end, which is great because I love to be surprised. The wolf politics are well written and work well with the story, and I really enjoyed the world building.
But, of course, the heart of this story is in its romance, and I loved Seth and Mia together! Seth is an alpha in all the ways, he wants Mia from the moment he lays eyes on her, and I loved his determination to get his girl.
Seth holds nothing back when it comes to how much he wants Mia, which is always fun, but there’s a strong emotional element as well, which unfolds the more time they spent together, and it’s so gorgeous to see. Their story is complicated with lots of twists, and I loved the direction that it took. Full of surprises with plenty of steam, the chemistry is sizzling, and they are so good together!
The romance blends beautifully with the drama, both of which bring emotion, and which also tie in really well with the suspense aspect of the story. While this book ends well, there’s a lot going on in this world and Mia and Seth’s story will continue in the next book of the series. I’m hoping that the series will branch out, because there are more characters just begging to have their story told!
I always get excited when Rebecca Zanetti has a new book to read, and this one is a great introduction to a new series. I can’t wait to continue.

Certes, ce n'est pas mon livre préféré de Rebecca Zanetti (j'aurais aimé que le monde des shifters soit bien plus développé et je n'ai pas trop accroché à l'héroïne Mia ...) mais ça reste bien écrit, l'intrigue était plus tordue que ce que je pensais et plusieurs futures intrigues ont le potentiel de me passionner =) (notamment avec le serial killer de Mia, son ex, l'espèce de secte qui vit dans le coin et aussi Emily !)
Bref, je réserve mon jugement pour le prochain livre =)

Anyway, I reserve my judgment for the next book =)

Wow. Okay. Definitely in the minority. I purchased because I love Rebecca. The premise was exciting. Intriguing. Except for Mia Stone. What an annoying character! How many times do you have to tell people you’re a cop!!! To distraction. And may I add, a terrible cop at that. It was almost like she was begging everyone to respect her. And she was constantly abusing her power. I really didn’t see chemistry between the characters. It was more for convenience. Seth was definitely an alpha. I really enjoyed all the characters. I did feel that the supernatural aspect of the story was not necessary. This read more like a normal mystery. I did guess a couple of things early in the story. There were unanswered/ unexplained points. And confusing points. I may consider reading Alpha, but hearing Mia say I’m a cop a million times, does not appeal to me.

Rebecca Zanetti doesn't fail me.
Mia Stone was a strong heroine with her own subtle vulnerabilities. Seth Volk did creep me out in the beginning considering that he was in jail suspected of being a serial killer.
Seth was everything I love in an alpha hero down to some ahole-ish tendencies.
I would love to know more if Mia’s FBI career and the serial killer case that wrecked her career. Seth and his family have some unfinished business pertaining to the silver mine and who will lead the family.
I didn’t enjoy this Kindle Vella thing. It felt like watching soap operas. Just am episode a day.

It's your standard fare human woman introduced to werewolf politics with a dash of the ol': "I trust him but idk why" "I'm attracted to him but idk why" "I'm ____ but idk why" 🙃 I'm pretty sure it would have been okay for these characters to be instantly attracted to each other without the "idk why" part.
The smut though? pretty great. However a few areas get a little dubious; She says no, he pressures her, then she relents. Sometimes I couldn't tell if she actually wanted it all along or just caved in.

I really wanted to love this book, and I had High Hopes after the intriguing opening chapter. But the more I read, the more disinterested I got. I found there was very little chemistry Between the main characters, and some plot elements just didn't work for me. This author has been hit or miss lately. Her Scorpius syndrome series was by far, in my opinion, the best she's written. I'm disappointed that this first book in this new series wasn't able to capture my interest. I'm unsure if I'll even try reading the subsequent books.

I have to say I am liking the story line that starts out as indifference on her part and builds into a undeniable attraction between two people. This is chick lit at it's best.

I liked this one a lot. Some caveman attitudes are showing along the book but Mia points them out and fights them head on so I’m hoping things change for the better in the follow on books.
I love how straightforward Seth is in his attraction to Mia, nothing hidden there, no need to beat around the bushes.

I have always admired this author's gift for launching the reader right into the action. The murder mystery is clever and evokes a level of gore that will be familiar to her Laurel Snow fans. The dominating alpha male and headstrong heroine who refuses to be dominated, is basically every sexy Dark Protectors pairing that she has previously written. I found Seth to be very in character as a wolf Enforcer whose identity within his pack is to protect his Alpha and his pack members. Seth's brother Erik is charming and seems more casual. Mia's family are featured but still feel peripheral to this first story.
It's Mia with whom I had some difficulty as she dragged my feelings up and down. Sometimes I was just so tired of her repetitive "I'm a cop," "I'm trained," "I can handle myself," I'm here to do my job." She perseverates even after it is clear that the paradigm has shifted beneath her feet. Once she knows that the shifters need to keep themselves a secret, she still expects them to behave like humans! This part of her reminded me of Alexandra Monzelle from Wicked Ride. Mia has a cute competitiveness, though. When Seth warns her that the mating bite will hurt and suggests pain medication, Mia declines when she hears that female wolves need no such accommodation. This part made me smile and think of Brenna Dunne from Shadowed. Afterwards, Mia challenges her new mate every chance she gets and presses him to lose control. Her stubbornness often crosses the line into obstinate and difficult.
I'm glad I waited for Wolf to release in book format so I could consume the story at my own pace. This story is recommended to those who love small town murder mysteries, over-protective shifters, or Rebecca Zanetti's steamy writing.

I read this on KindleVella and it was definitely a new experience for me. I didn't love the format because instead of 1 charge, you buy tokens and spend a certain amount of them per chapter in order to unlock them. So instead of spending 3.99 on a kindle book, you end up spending way more trying to guess how many tokens you will need to unlock the full story. The premise was great, I really liked the suspense and mystery of the murder investigation. The characters were enjoyable, but not as deep as one would hope. The romance was steamy(a little insta-lovey) and sweet. I would read another book in this series if it wasnt on KindleVella.

I usually love this author and I especially love shifter books but somehow this one just didn't really interest me. I can't exactly pinpoint why but there wasn't much heat between Mia and Seth, the shifter aspect was really minimal, and I just could not bring myself to care about the murder mystery. I also usually love reading about the different pack members in shifter books, but we didn't really learn much about them here. Overall, it was just okay.

Good book. Loved the way the story flowed. I had no clue who the killer was. I thought I figured it out but nope new twist I never saw coming. Just loved that.

This is a story on Kindle Vella, and as far as a serialized story goes it is excellent. This format tends to be a little less refined, but this one has all the qualities of a normal published book. The development and pacing is very good, and the twist is actually something I did not see coming at all. The resolution felt good with a little opening for book 2 as the author left enough plot unresolved for us to continue (but not be left on a cliffhanger). It felt like it was well-plotted which, again, is rare for this type of serialized story format.
I didn’t really love Seth all that much, and at times Mia felt a little TSTL. Both of them have a lot to learn about compromise, Seth with letting Mia do her job and pulling back his ‘me alpha, you woman’ routing, and Mia needs to learn a little more trust especially when dealing with a world she is completely unfamiliar with. She spends a lot of time posturing and bragging about her gun and fighting skills and not a lot of time listening or admitting she might be wrong.

I thought the killer was another one, but maybe he will be useful for the next book. Not so sure I will read it anyway, maybe for me the time of the shifters came to an end...

Mainlined Wolf by Rebecca Zanetti last week. She's a read in one sitting author for me, I love all her novels, and this one was no different. Book one in the Stope Packs Series, wolf shifter Seth is one hundred percent alpha male, and Mia, a former FBI agent turned small town cop, is a spit-fire. A truly enjoyable read. Highly recommend.

I first read Wolf in Kindle Vella (the moment it became available), and now I'm happy to have it in paperback. Very happy!
Rebecca Zanetti's books are all action-packed, page-turners filled with steamy goodness, and Wolf is no exception.
Mia and Seth are both smartly-written, strong characters and they are a perfect match for each other.
And while Wolf is book 1 of a new paranormal shifter series, the ending in Wolf could be considered complete. It is not a cliffhanger so you are left in a safe place at the end of the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed Wolf as I do all Zanetti's books.
