Star Kennedy and Lennox Washington are the kind of work besties who do everything together, even the wild and crazy exploits Star comes up with. She's always been vibrant and adventurous, while Lennox is laid back and quiet, content to go along for the ride. So when Billingsley-Davis furloughs most of their department, he isn't surprised that Star comes up with an outrageous plan to earn the money she needs: a high quality adult film. What does surprise him is that she wants him to participate. But he's never been able to tell her no and despite his concerns and his homeboy's warnings, this time is no different.
It should have been easy. They're comfortable with each other, they're both gorgeous, and there's no chance of it becoming anything more because they have no romantic feelings for each other. But as soon as the camera starts rolling, their previously clear relationship is plunged into confusion, leaving them both to wonder if their friendship will ever recover. What do you do when fictitious passion turns into the real thing?
***This is Book 4 in the On the Clock series of erotic standalones. Can be read in any order.
Another hot book in the On the Clock series! I'm really enjoying this series and I'm loving the variety of plots and characters that we're getting in each book. 3.5 Stars
A Flick Between Friends is exactly what it implies. It focuses on Star and Lennox who recently get laid off from the company. As a way to make money to help continuing to care for her grandmother, Star decides to come up with the idea that they should make a sex tape. While this is definitely a theme that I've seen before, there were a few different elements that I enjoyed. For one, there was an intimate exploration of their friendship. Star was used to dominating their friendship and forcing Lennox to do what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it. Although Lennox doesn't typically say anything, the dynamics of this situation force them to confront those issues. Second, I love a hero that can shut up a heroine who loves to talk trash in the bedroom. Star attempted to make their sexual interactions sterile and mechanic. She assumed that Lennox didn't know what he was doing and that their sexual relationship would be the same as those she's had in the past. The fact that Lennox proved her wrong without being cocky made this book well worth a read. It's fast paced and just another good installment in this office romance series.
I haven't smiled this hard while reading book in a good minute. Sweet, sexy, and super funny. Like, I actually laughed out loud while reading this— most books get a smile, or a strong smirk outta me but this one had me laughing for real. I like Shae Sanders' voice a lot-- the pacing was great and the dialogue was realistic and funny. The character development was notable too, especially for this to be a novella. This is my first book by Sanders, but I'm excited to check out more of her work after reading this, that's for sure.
I love a good friends to lovers trope and that’s what we get with A Flick Between Friends. This book was romantic, sexy, and funny. The story line was a little outlandish but, I loved it. Watching Lennox and Star fall in love with each other felt genuine and real. You could actually feel they love they had for each other. I love how Lennox accepts Star for who she is and loves her regardless. On another note, I wonder if we're going to get a book on Denard and Tyra? I feel like that was the start of something in his office. Oh, well. The HEA is back with A Flick Between Friends and boy did they get theirs.
This little novella was amazing! Funny, sexy, and romantic AF, A Flick Between Friends is the book you need to make your life better.
It's about two besties getting fired by their workplace. But Star doesn't have a lot of money to keep paying her grandma's place so she has to come up with a new thing to do to earn some money. She decides to do a porn film, focused on Black women and what they enjoy. She goes to her bestie Lennox to make him a proposal: appear with her in the film!
So I am loving the popularity of the best friends to lovers trope that don't really feel any romantic love between each other until they finally kiss and realize that they are perfect for each other. I love that Star and Lennox are also the sunshine/laid back ship I love to love. Star is the one who always gets these wild ideas and Lennox cannot say no to her so he always follows her. It's so cute.
But obviously, making this film, it's going to change everything for both of them! And it's so awesome to see their dynamic quickly take a turn for the better, though Star is scared to take that next step. This book is hot and really, really great. I highly recommend it to everyone if you just want a fun and joyful read for the night.
When Star and her best friend Lennox are furloughed she is short on money. So, Star decides to star in an high quality adult film. And Lennox who can't say no to her agrees to help. The only problem is that both seem to catch feelings while filming.
The premise of A Flick Between Friends intrigued me a lot and the smut was extremely hot. While I really liked Lennox I didn't like Star that much, she was just a lot. Therefore, I didn't like this as much as I could have. But it was still good.
3.5 out of 5 wine glasses. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more from the author! Not gonna lie, I’m pretty sure I liked Lennox more than Star, but maybe when I go back and read the preceding books in the series I’ll get to know and appreciate her character better. More than anything, I really loved the message about black women deserving to see themselves loved and cherished and worshipped.
Friends to lovers always gets me! I’m glad Star worked through her issues for that HEA cause baby there’s no way I’m letting a man like Lennox get with someone else! Lol absolutely not that is mine!
I'm always impressed by a romance novella that can squeeze in a fulfilling story and still deliver on chemistry between a couple, especially a friends-to-lovers novella. I can see from the reviews that Star rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but I found her to be funny, headstrong and I can totally buy into others appeal for her. And Lennox is such a sweetheart. I'm checking out the next book, Legal Tender, just to get an update on this couple. 😆
This was cute. I really liked the premise and think it was executed wonderfully. I am a little bleh about unnegotiated waking someone up with sex, but I still ended up enjoying Star and Lennox’s friends-to-lovers “it’s just for a movie” story.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought Star and Lennox relationship would’ve not survived but I love it in the end. Star was getting on my nerves a bit, she know what she was doing having Lennox not feel anything in there arrangement. It all work out in the end. 😄
Really cute. Some parts were a bit much, Star was a bit MUCH. But her concept was spot on black porn really looks like it's made in a dungeon and not a sexy one lol. Love that that was explored here.
Friends to lovers. I understood Star’s fear but I wasn’t feeling the way she handled my boy Lennox. I’m glad Denard really got into her head and she realized it was okay to let Lennox love her.
Rounding up from a 3.5-- I enjoyed this novella! Its a friends to lovers story about Star and Lenox, two coworkers who have been furloughed. Star needs to pay for her grandma's rent, so she proposes to Lenox that they film porn on their own hosted site with an emphasis on Black women and their pleasure. I really enjoyed this commentary and it's totally something I'd want to see in a full-length novel!
It's an erotic romance, so sex is a big part of the story, both from helping the friends realize their love extends beyond platonic feelings and with moving the plot along. And Ima just say it's sexy as hell. There were some statements here and there that I didn't like re: gender roles. But nothing that made me want to stop reading! I am definitely curious about the rest of the series, especially if there's a book feature Tara and Denard.
I love the characters in this series, and Lennox and Star are no exception. They are hilarious, and so so sexy! Star, such a free spirit, does what ever she wants to do apologetically. Lennox, her easy going male best friend, hangs back in the cut and goes along with all of her crazy schemes. I knew that Star proposing this idea to Lennox would be a bad idea, as someone would catch feelings. But, who knew that their chemistry would be burning my kindle pages, and that "bad idea" would lead them to love. Filming the video was smokin' hot! I felt like a voyeur at times, as the descriptions were so vivid! 😂 I love how they both were able to accept the other, despite their differences and love anyway. Really enjoyed it! 👍👍👍
Yeahhhh. I really really loved this. The author always does a disclaimer for the fact that it's short but I think this developed fairly well and the sex was soo hot. The problem with the first book I read was honestly that the sex wasn't all that hot/sexy but this was sooo good. I loved the open communication between them as friends and as they began to develop feelings. I loved the emotional baggage that Star carried with her that was discussed with Devon. It makes me want to go back to "Trick" and see if I feel more committed to that story now that I've read this one. But I'm glad that I liked it because I've heard good things. I'm even MORE excited to keep reading from this author's backlist. 10/10 would recommend. 🤗
4/5⭐️5/5🌶 - Man Shae is literally out here writing pure fifth! I enjoyed this series too much yall!
- Ok so this book is about Star she is... idk shes a star. My sis is the definition of spontaneous. Star is a baddie truthfully and she knows it! Then it's Lennox he is Stars bff, right hand man, and partner in crime! He is whatever Star needs him to be literally.
- So just like the title says lol Star and Lennox make an adult film but star wanted it to be geared towards the sisters. Now i was lost idk how she came to this conclusion but idc bc the book was good asl and like i said fifthly. S/o to all the black kings out there that will do whatever to see they girl happy.
I liked this friends to lovers part of the series. Kudos to the author for continuing to give us some amazing stories in this series. Lennox and Star were great friends but all that changed once an opportunity was presented for these friends to express their true feelings without actually admitting how they really feel. Their chemistry was definitely turned all the way up once the camera started rolling. I liked how Lennox was very honest about his feelings, what he wanted and refuse to play games with Star. Overall these two embarked on a great financial deal while securing a relationship as a couple.
This was such a funny, hot, quick read!! Two friends who decide to make a sex video!! Well, Star convinced Lennox to do it and that man can't say no to her.
I loved their friendship dynamic and how they caught all those feelings. lol. it was a wrap! Star tried to fight it while Lennox fully embraced it but in the end she expressed her fears and they figured it out.
The banter was hilarious, the amount of things I highlighted.
This is book 4 in a series but seems like it works as a standalone. Now I need to go read the other 3 books!!
this was great!!! i think friends to lovers is slowly becoming a favourite trope of mine because i really enjoyed seeing star and lennox's relationship grow from friends to something more. their relationship was great and i loved all of their banter and teasing, especially during the sex scenes. on that note, the smut was fantastic. i also really enjoyed how this book normalized sex work and that star was a business bitch who knew what she wanted, and got shit done! 5/5 stars and i'm definitely going to be checking out more from shae sanders
Yooooooooo! Shae Sanders is out here! I've never read a romance about two MC essentially making a sex tape (a sex web series?). This was a short and fun read.
Star is wild, crazy, fun & sexy. She doesn't shy away from being and showing the fullest version of herself and that's dope.
Lennox is serious, steady, & kind of passive. He's long suffering with Star and the way he cares for her is endearing. The way that he makes her eats her words when she keeps talking her mess is hot. He's definitely not passive in bed.
It’s refreshing to read sex work in such a positive light. Women like Star are usually used for fodder and a foil to the “good girl” heroines. That Shae managed to write a book where life long grief is the barrier to the couple when it would be so easy to do otherwise made me happy.
Star is audacious and fun, if you have extrovert friends who always get you into foolishness, that’s Star.
Star is wild, and Lennox was mostly confusing; he certainly seemed as surprised by every plot twist as the reader was. Star struck a tone just beyond “determined,” and not quite at “ice cold and hard as nails.” The way she bowled past any data that she didn’t want to accept, while at the same time being pretty open about her motives and (lack of) expectations… these two take a one-of-a-kind path to romance, that’s for sure.
Star and Lennox had it all figured out until their lil plan backfired and feelings came into play! I was rooting for them to get it together, and so glad they finally did! They were adorable together, but they also had irresistible chemistry to match!
