Allie Mason has it all: a handsome and doting boyfriend, a great career as an editor for an independent publisher, and a reliable best friend who keeps her on her toes. Coupled with her girl next door looks, Allie is a textbook definition of happy everything.

Until one night, she’s stripped of it all.

Allie is attacked in her home; badly beaten and raped—with no memory of the traumatizing events that took place that night.

As Allie works to uncover the truth, she’s left with more questions than answers—and forced to make an unimaginable decision.

With her attacker still at large, Allie is gripped by fear—and the growing sensation that someone has been following her.

2.5 stars—- After absolutely loving “My Only Sunshine”, I decided to read Ms. Jump’s second book, “Even Though It’s Breaking”. Although Ms. Jump’s writing ability is still fantastic, especially when she is writing from the main character, Allie’s, perspective, the plot in this one got progressively worse the more I read. “Breaking” begins in the hospital with Allie waking up from a coma after being violently raped and beaten. She has no memory of her attacker but it soon becomes apparent her ex-boyfriend Tarek is attempting to use her fear and helplessness to worm his way back into her life. To make the story more interesting, Allie is being stalked daily by a psycho who became fixated after seeing her photo at a doctor’s office. I won’t ruin the story, but let’s just say after such a promising setup, what could have been a decent thriller takes a major turn for the worse halfway through. Ridiculous is not a near strong enough word for the actions of both Allie and Owen ( the stalker nice guy) as the novel progresses. The plot is so unrealistic that it was difficult to keep my eyes from permanently rolling into my head as the the story goes from bad to worse. I promise you, you will never read about a stalker quite like Owen either in fiction or or in true crime books (thank gosh). Hopefully, Ms. Jump returns to her 1st book form in her next book because she truly has a gift of character development and writing dialogue between characters.

Reread 2023:
I think I enjoyed this even more the second time!
Since I was not in a rush to find out what happens next I was able to settle into the nuances of the book. I noticed more and got even more attached to the characters (I love you Owen!).
This is my March pick for my IRL book club and I cannot wait to discuss this with Lady Jump on the 25th, so freaking excited!!!

Original Review 2021:
I'm always horribly nervous to read the sophomore release of an author who's debut was 5⭐'s for me. Even more so when said debut was partially biographical for them.
A mixture of fear and anticipation bubbles inside me when I open that sophomore book for the first time (and hopefully not the last).

I need not have worried with Shannon Jump.
This was everything I wanted and more!
As much as I adored My Only Sunshine , I think I loved this one even more!!!
Once you've read it...come talk to me about my boy Owen, love love loved him!!!
I cannot wait to see what Lady Jump does next.

“So much has changed since that moment, and I’m nothing like the person I was before then. I’m some refurbished version of the person I once was. Not brand new. Used, but good enough for now.

I’ve learned to be okay with refurbished.

Maybe being refurbished just means there was enough of us left to be put back together. And the glue that held us together was simply strong enough to hold. At least for a little bit.”

Early Reviews:
Author Shannon Jump has written a masterpiece! I was hooked from page one and could not imagine how this amazing novel would end. I applaud Author Shannon Jump for her writing talent because I could not figure out the identity of the attacker until he was identified. This is the first book I have read from this author but it definitely will not be my last! Angela Sanford, Goodreads reviewer

She will take you on a ride of twists and turns and ups and downs until you get to the jaw-dropping ending! She combines heartbreaking and heartwarming together, which you do not see often in a psychological thriller. I HIGHLY recommend this book, it made me cry, laugh and cry again. It is a thriller like no ordinary thriller! Lisa J. Wetzel, Goodreads reviewer

Shannon has a way of painting her villain with expert strokes of a thriller writer of the caliber of Ruth Ware and Alice Feeney. I had no idea until Allie knew, which added to the fear that mounted page by page… the pacing of this book, once you started you could not stop reading. Diana Rose, Goodreads reviewer

This is her second book and my favorite book of the year, her first My Only Sunshine was amazing as well and was also a 5⭐ for me too so go place your order… This book was such an amazing book filled with excitement, sadness, suspense, and thrills on top of thrills on top of MORE thrills. It will have you on the edge of your seat. I loved how I couldn't stop turning pages I just had to find out what was going to happen. Elaine Betancourt, Goodreads reviewer

Allie has a great life. She has a wonderful boyfriend named Tarek, a great job as an editor, and a best friend named Courtney who is always at her side. The problem is she wants more out of life than her current day to day routine. Everything changes one night when she becomes a victim of an attack. Allie wakes up not remembering much about her attacker, but she wants to uncover the truth. She starts to have some vague memories and feels like someone has been watching her. Could it be the attacker or is it someone else she knows?

This was an amazing book. I was blown away, and to be honest, some parts were hard to read. I woke up very early in the morning to read more and finished it. I had to know what would happen to Allie. The ending gave me 'all the feels'! If want to read something completely different that will leave a lasting impression, pick up this book. I am honored to have received an advanced copy. Thank you so much Shannon!

First, a big thank you to Shannon Jump for adding me to her street team and sending me an ARC of Even Though It’s Breaking!

Even Though It’s Breaking is told from two POVs, Allie and Owen, which I really enjoyed. After a vicious attack, Allie wakes up in the hospital with zero recollection as to what brought her there. After being informed by the police that she was raped, beaten and left for dead, Allie is terrified to go back home alone. With zero idea who could have done this to her, we are taken back a month before the attack and shown Allie’s relationship with Tarek, her boyfriend of 6 years. As the story progresses, we’ll learn that not everything is quite as it appears. And in the end, something good can come from something bad, even when it feels like it’s breaking.

I absolutely loved this story! The title of the book is such an important part of the overall plot, and as a mother, I really connected with this story. Even Though It’s Breaking is about resilience and fighting for yourself, whatever that might mean in your current circumstances. It was nice to see Allie grow and learn from her experiences to become the woman she eventually does. While it’s not an entirely happy ending, I like the way everything was resolved. I can’t wait for another book!

I was thrilled to be sent an ARC for Even Though It’s Breaking by the magnificent Shannon Jump. Let’s get the important stuff out of the way- 5 ⭐️. If you haven’t preordered this one yet- best hop to it!

Allie wakes up in the hospital. She has fallen victim to a brutal physical and sexual assault. However she has no recollection of the attack. Before the attack, Allie had a great career in publishing and a handsome boyfriend, Tarek. Still- she can’t help but feel like she wants, no needs, something more to feel fulfilled. Suffocated in her relationship she decides to part ways with Tarek… little does she know there is another man in her life. His name is Owen. She has never met him but he is always watching and waiting….

This story was such a rollercoaster. One second I would be in tears. The next I would be giggling. The steam was *chefs kiss* and the twists- they literally do not stop! Even in the epilogue there was a reveal that nearly made my brain explode.

Also, I am floored at the author’s ability to write about such heavy content and handle it with such care. There is no violence merely for the sake of violence. Each event carries so much importance to the overall plot in this intricate web of twists, deceits and holy shit moments.

Congrats to the author on an amazing sophomore novel! I loved My Only Sunshine and dare I say I love Even Though It’s Breaking more? Even Though It’s Breaking publishes 10/26/21!

WOW! Thank you Shannon Jump for providing me an early eARC copy of your new novel before it publishes on October 26th in exchange for an honest review.

Guys - if you haven't already, pre-order and plan to pick up this one immediately! I flew through this book in less than 24 hours. I stayed up until 2am because I couldn't stop reading and when I woke up again at 4:30am, I picked it back up and kept going.

The writing is flawless and easy to devour, and the two narrators provided a completely unique side to Allie's story that left me totally conflicted. I love that the book is broken up into before and after Allie's attack - everything leading up to it and after is executed flawlessly. Also, I found myself completely loving the relationship between the MC and her best friend.

This wasn't an easy book to read (definitely check the trigger warnings before picking it up), but so worth it! My emotions varied wildly while reading - anxious, terrified, sad (yes maybe I shed a tear or two), happiness and a few laughs. Okay, time for a book hangover. This ones going to last a while - twisty. 🤣🥰💗

First off thank you to Shannon Jump for my advance copy as I anxiously awaited it! 😅

This book is being marketed as a psychological thriller and it most definitely is but it’s so much more. This book is told in multiple POVs (Allie the victim and Owen, the man infatuated with her) The voice of Allie is witty, strong, heartbreaking and familiar. I felt Allie. I swear we are the same person lol Shannon’s writing is so real, half the time I felt like I was talking with a friend.

The story is difficult and scary. You can’t help but feel her fear and think “this could happen to me” or “I’ve been in this situation before” I mean, I’ve crossed a dark parking lot alone, gripping my eyes and ears on high alert. It broke my heart to see how a moment can change someone forever, not just their life but their soul. I couldn’t help but feel a little for Owen too. This was all I hoped it would be and more. The only problem is it’s over and I have to wait for Shannon to write another 😣

This book is breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time as the story unfolds and we see the main character face some of the most difficult hardships a person can experience. Shannon doesn’t shy away from these hard topics and writes the scenarios with such care and emotion that you feel so connected with the main character and her journey. The dual points of view were great and enhanced the plot and character development throughout the book. The ending was solid and the story left a lasting impression on me. I highly recommend this psychological thriller.

Shannon, I’m so grateful that I received this arc and will continue to be a fan of your many books you write in the future ❤️

“It’s like I’m some broken doll that everybody wants to sew back together but nobody has the right color thread and the needle isn’t even sharp enough to poke through the surface.”

First off let me say WOW!!! Shannon killed it with her sophomore novel. I thought I was blown away by My Only Sunshine but this one equally blew me away. I was hooked from page one and I am in love with Shannon’s writing style. This book is told in first person and has a dual narrative so we get perspectives from both Allie and Owen.

I definitely related to Allie not feeling like her apartment was home anymore because I have felt that way for 4 years since my own attack in my home. Relating to books makes me love them even more. I had mixed emotions about Owen but he was hands down my favorite character and Shannon nailed it on writing his character!! I loved the twists and the ending was fantastic. I am already looking forward to Shannon’s next novel and know she will be an auto-buy author for me. I’m looking forward to seeing where this writing takes her because I see big things 👀

Side note: I also loved Shannon’s heartfelt acknowledgement at the end acknowledging bookstagrammers and her ARC readers/Jump Street Team. Indie authors fucking rock.

Thank you to Shannon for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Allie has a perfect life: a wonderful boyfriend, a great job. So why is she unhappy? Stuck in a rut, she decides to attempt to make a change. But one fateful night will change her more than she ever expected. She is attacked in the sanctity of her own home, badly beaten and raped. As she tries to pick up the pieces of her life, she finds herself with more questions than answers.

Shannon has a reader for life with me. Her novels are dark and sad but, at the same time, filled with light and hope. She handles triggering topics with care and ease. And triggers this book has! And lots of cursing in the Owen chapters. I enjoyed the reading of this story and found myself wrapped up in it. I did have some questions about the character of Owen and his motivations throughout the book, but other than that, I think this is will be a very satisfying, albeit difficult, one for readers. Lots of contrasting words in my review, but you have to read it to understand!

This was my first book from Shannon Jump, and it won’t be my last. This was such a well written book; full of suspense, heartbreak, and courageousness. I loved the POVs from Allie and Owen, and how their relationship shouldn’t have worked, but did. Allie went through hell and back, had so many difficult choices to make, and came out a survivor! I loved the ending of this book, it was perfect!

Thank you, Shannon Jump, for the e-ARC of your book!

Characters: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Allie was every woman who had lived this nightmare. She wanted out, and everyone around her was trying to keep them together. She was strong, resilient and her moments of grief were so palpable I couldn't help but cry along with her.

His eyes ..deep black all pupils devoid of humanity , I had to take a deep breath and walk around the house checking my doors. I felt the description of those eyes to the core of my soul. I had seen those eyes myself. Shannon has a way of painting her villain with expert strokes of a thriller writer of the caliber of Ruth Ware and Alice Feeney. I had no idea until Allie knew, which added to the fear that mounted page by page.

Owen was a surprise of a character. Bit by bit the reader got a full picture of his backstory. We saw through his memories a textbook example of a person who has the potential of being truly evil. We get to draw our own conclusions about him, and I almost hope this is a character she returns to since I am a huge fan of his character type.

The pacing of this book , once you started you could not stop reading.
I remember vividly questioning my own sanity , like Allie questioning if the events were like she remembered. Allie wasnt able to remember, until she did. Then it was time for her to heal.
I hope readers take this book and her first book My Only Sunshine to their local women's shelters. They both paint an ending of hope, that there can be an end to the pain, the nightmares, and there is justice waiting for those who deserve it.

Like another reviewer I saw, I was nervous to read Shannon’s second book when her debut was so wonderfully crafted. I wasn’t sure if this one would live up to my expectations.

In short: it did.

One part romance, one part suspense, one part WTF just happened, Even Though It’s Breaking had me hooked.

There are points where I wanted to scream at Allie for knowing what she needs to do, yet she still was unable to allow herself to do it. And there were times when I really did scream at her for not seeing what was right in front of her face.

Yet even though Allie was the main character, she is not the character I loved to see the POV most. I’m definitely #teamOwen. His chapters are intense and exciting and kept me guessing as to what his plan is.

Without spoiling it, the last two chapters are *chef’s kiss* amazing!

After finishing this amazing novel, the only thing that I can think to say is Wow! The emotions that I have felt reading Allie's story have ran from sadness, anger, and of course, happiness is thrown in as well. Allie Mason thought her life was going as planned but when she can no longer find happiness with her boyfriend of six years, she finally decided to break up with him. Tarek is what most girls dream of, handsome, loving and wealthy but Allie wants more. When the unthinkable happens and Allie almost died, Tarek is right there for her but so is Owen, the stalker that finds himself in love with Allie. What will Allie do when she discovers the identity of her attacker?

I was lucky enough to get an eARC of this one and I really enjoyed it!

The story follows Allie, a sexual assault survivor as she tries to get her life back on track after a traumatizing and horrible experience.

Jump doesn’t shy away from hard topics but they were handled with care and emotion, allowing you to feel empathy for the main character and her struggles.

This is not a light read (⚠️TW: rape, assault, murder, stalking⚠️) but it hooked me right from the beginning and had me coming back to see where the story was headed.

I def recommend you checking this one out if you’re looking for a thriller/mystery read 😉

Allie is attacked inside her home and barely remembers anything from the home invasion. Understandably so, she has a hard time overcoming and dealing with this attack, especially because the man she broke up with, Tarek, is acting like they’re still together.

Owen has an obsession with Allie and readers see into the mind of a stalker. Think of as if Holden Caulfield and Joe Goldberg had a love child.

Not only was this book twisty, but I think it hit me at every single emotion possible. I was intrigued, scared, sad, angry, and happy. I highly recommend this novel!

Even Though It’s Breaking by Shannon Jump is a psychological thriller like no other psychological thriller I have ever read. This book scared me and made my heart ache! It is an extremely well written, fast paced, unable to put down story you do not want to miss. Told in dual point of views, Jump writes about extremely sensitive content and handles it with extreme care. This book has mystery, domestic abuse, stalking, rape, child abuse and then sticks adoption in there. As much as it is devastating, Jump also shows the redeeming side of it! She will take you in a ride of twist and turns and ups and downs until you get to the jaw dropping ending! She combines heartbreaking and heartwarming together, which you do not see often in a psychological thriller. I HIGHLY recommend this book, it made me cry, laugh and cry again. It is a thriller like no ordinary thriller!

My sincere Thanks to Shannon Jump for inviting me on her Street Team and for an advanced copy of this vicious story!!! My opinions are my own and unbiased.

Allie Mason is (as the kids say) living her best life in the Twin Cities area. Unfortunately, one night her life has she knows it is ripped from her. She is brutally attacked by an unknown assailant, and try as she might, she can't remember a thing. As she tries to put the pieces of her life back together, she can never fully relax knowing her attacker is still out there.

First and foremost, thank you to Shannon Jump for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review! I will be 100% real and say this was really hard for me to get through. There are several dark, heavy topics discussed, and Allie seems to encounter one terrible situation after another. That said, it was written about respectfully and in a way that allowed Allie to take back her life.

As with the best thrillers, this one is complete with multiple character viewpoints, quick chapters, and alternating timelines. You won't be able to help but root for Allie to pick herself back up.

Thank you Shannon for having me on your Jump Street Team and for the e-arc of Even Though It's Breaking!

RELEASE DATE:10/26/2021

Shannon Jump has done it again with her sophomore novel Even Though It's Breaking. Writing in a new genre has only proven that she can literally write whatever she wants and she will do it well!

I absolutely devoured this book as soon as I got it!
The dual character perspective from both Allie and Owen give this book even more depth!

Shannon has a way of making the characters just come to life. Allie is full of whit, she is fiercely loyal and she seems to know exactly what she wants and doesn't want in her life. After waking up in the hospital from a violent attack in her own home, she is left trying to pick up the pieces of her former life and try to put them back together again. Who can she trust? Her boyfriend Tarek? Her family? Her best friend Courtney? Owen? I could not for the life of me guess what would happen next in this twisty psychological thriller! I cried and laughed and gasped so many times. Such heavy content at times and it was done tastefully and thoughtfully.

Make sure that you have plenty of time for this one, because you will not want to put it down!

Shannon, you were meant to be an author! Keep writing what you want because you have only proven that you will nail it!

Even Though It’s Breaking is Shannon Jump’s sophomore book and I was so excited to read it following her first book, My Only Sunshine (which is a totally different kind of read but amazing in it’s own right).

Allie is the kind of girl everyone wants to be. She has a great boyfriend, an up and coming career, popularity and beauty. The only person that doesn’t want Allie’s life is Allie. After breaking up with her long term boyfriend and trying to find herself, she barely survives a gruesome and life changing attack.

Owen is in love with Allie and thinks he knows what’s best for her. Allie however, doesn’t love Owen back, she doesn’t even know Owen…yet.

**Oh Owen…you give me Joe Goldberg vibes without the likable stuff (mostly).

This book was a wild ride to say the least. Things are not as they seem and Allie is not sure who attacked her or why. As she tries to figure things out, she just gets more confused.

I binged this in one day as I had a pretty good idea where it was going and was anxious to prove myself right. I WAS WRONG. 👏🏻👏🏻

Shannon slid in the twists in the blink of an eye so smoothly and yes there was more than one. This is definitely a twisty and at times disturbing read that covers some tough heavy topics. I really enjoyed this one. It’s not your typical thriller. I got emotional during the last third of the book. Yes, it has both heartbreaking and heartwarming moments which is hard to do in a thriller but works here. There’s something uplifting in the storyline at the same time as it’s devastating. Props to Shannon for being able to pull that off.

It’s a complicated one to review without giving spoilers 🤐 so you will just have to read it for yourself - it comes out October 26th. Go check it out. If you like hardcore, not to be taken lightly thriller content, this IS for you.

Shannon is proof that as an author you can change up your genre and be successful at it! I’m so grateful to be an early reader and cannot wait to see what she comes up with next! 🙌

First of all, thank you so much to the author, Shannon, for my gifted eARC! I was so excited and happy when I received this and new that it would be an amazing read, let’s just say that I was 100% right!

This one tugged at my heart strings! It definitely hit a personal note for me, and was very much relatable. I adored Allie’s character and my heart definitely broke for her and everything that she had to endure.

Allie wakes up in a hospital bed having learned that she was attacked, raped & left for dead in her own apartment. She is unable to remember anything. Allie has the perfect life, the perfect job & boyfriend, BUT she is tried of being comfortable and predictable and she longs for more.

Slowly, Allie’s memory begins to come back, she starts to recall that prior to the her attack she broke things off with her boyfriend, Tarek, because she was feeling suffocated in the relationship. She also vaguely recalls the feeling of being followed & someone watching her prior to her attack.

Low and behold, Tarek is not the only man that is in Allie’s life. Allie doesn’t know it yet, but someone else is madly in love with her, obsessed with her, watching her every move, and waiting for her.

They say what doesn’t kill us only makes us stronger, and this book is a perfect example of that. Although the main character, Allie, had to go through many downs and experience horrible things, she picked up and carried on the best that she could and that is so admirable.

This is an amazing book, although hard to read at times and intense. I loved the ending and how things turned out for Allie. The writing was superb, the plot was thrilling, suspenseful, and full of twists. This is definitely going to have you feeling ALL the feels! Highly recommend!

What a heck of a ride! I literally did not want to put this book down. I love how the story unfolds from the view point of two different narrators. I instantly fell in love with Allie and hurt so much for the trauma she went through. Her story is unimaginable. But seeing her suffering through the eyes of Owen had its own powerful pull on me. My feelings for Owen were not simple. Nor were they complex, they were empathetic. I felt for both of them. I wish I could say so much more but my retelling will not do it justice. Meet Allie, feel her pain and her hope. Listen to Owen and hear his own.

This is a highly recommended read and I’m on my way to read more from this author! Don’t let this one pass you by!

WOW !! This was my first book by Shannon Jump and I loved it so much !! She was kind enough to send me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review! Let me tell you, you won't want to miss this one !!

Allie has the perfect life, or so it seems. Perfect boyfriend, great job and loyal friends. Until one day she is brutally raped and beaten in her home, leaving her broken and with no memory of what happened. After her attack, the cops told her someone has been seen stalking her and now Allie lives in constant fear, that someone is always watching her. She is not wrong. Owen, is completely in love with Allie even thought she has no idea who he is. He knows her routines, her favorite things, everything about her. He is obsessed with her. Even though stalking is super creepy, Owen was definitely my favorite character. His chapters were so interesting and told in such a great way, it really made you think you knew exactly what he was thinking and why.

This story was so gripping from the first page. The story is told from the POV of Allie and Owen. It was so fun and interesting to read about the perspective and events from the brains of two different people, on two different sides. I also really loved the writing and how I was literally hooked from the beginning. The twists and turn of events in this book were so perfect and I loved the ending so much !! I definitely recommend this book to anyway who loves thrillers and a great story. I cannot wait to see what is coming form Shannon Jump in the future !!

This book, the second by Shannon Jump, is full of so many twists and turns...to say that it was a wild ride was an understatement! Without spoiling any of the plot, the main character - Allie Mason - is a girl who has everything...until she doesn't. After she is attacked in her home and wakes up in the hospital to face a new reality, everything changes in her life. How does she cope? What will she do to deal with the mess that's been made of her life? And who did this to her? So many questions...I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find the answers! I loved the journey...as gut-wrenching and awful as parts of it were. Definitely worth reading and checking out, if you love a good thriller.
