With mere months to return to England to claim his freedom, Jesse could fail to meet the deadline and face execution. But assassins are stalking him in the New World too, and if he doesn’t get them called off, more slaves could die. After weighing the options Esther decides she has no choice but to find Jesse and let him make the call. But the prospect of navigating a region simmering with pirates, privateers, and hostile Spaniards turns out to be less of a threat than the menace in her own Rupert has his own agenda, and it may just bring all of them to ruin.

Time travel can be such a tricky thing - especially when you're trying to do good and keep your family together at the same time. There's so much going on in this story, but if you're familiar with the first book, it's not too hard to keep track of the various story lines running. There was never a dull moment, and it was easy to quickly step back through time and get wrapped up in the story. With vivid imagery, deception, and peril around every corner with a little love and steam mixed in, this was a thrilling new addition to the Indigo series.
