Rate this book

I just started Cathy Haase's "Acting for Film," as part of my personal research project before my first film acting gig this month. After getting cast in an independent film this summer I've been trying to prepare myself for the transition from theater acting training to film and have found Haase's book to come from that perspective as well. I'm hoping to find some good tips before we shoot!

Cathy Haase truly shines in her expertise with this book✨
It's a goldmine of practical advice and insightful exercises, delivered with honesty and clarity. The tips provided are not only helpful but also surprisingly detailed, covering aspects that might easily be overlooked. The writing style is approachable and engaging, making it feel like you're receiving guidance from a trusted friend.
It's no wonder I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. If you're in the acting profession or have any interest in the field, this book is a must-read for its invaluable insights and expert guidance🎭

It was a fine book. Quite informative.

I feel like this book is more for people who have an interest in acting, but haven't taken classes yet. I found that a good chunk of the book was either repetitions of information previous mentioned or of stuff I more or less knew already (having taken classes and gathering info myself). Also personally, the first part of the book, I didn't find helpful. I understand exercises can help others become more comfortable in front of the camera and help with their performance. But those just weren't for me.

In bits of the second part and more so the third is where I took away some information. It talks more about the business side and the auditions.

Overall, it was a solid read. I was just looking for something different.

Acting for Film is a very friendly book, explaining concepts in terms that are easy to understand. Informative and detailed, it goes in depth on the process of acting and beyond, from relaxation exercises to advice for the audition, and even to aspects of directing and the actor's role in a production. Although I have yet to put the exercises to use and am quite in the beginner stages of an acting career to say on what level this book is personally helpful for me—it is an still an eye-opening read to anyone even considering starting acting. I'm surprised at how underrated it is.
