When I went out target shooting in the woods, I wasn’t expecting to be abducted by a race of alien bunny girls from another star system.
They weren’t there for me; they didn’t even know there was intelligent life on Earth. They were just conducting some battle drills in the forest and they saw me practicing my shot for my family’s annual hunting trip.
Now, short a good marksman, they want me to help to defend their ‘portal’ on Alpha Centauri from a race of aggressive robot A.I. killers , the very race that conquered their home star and the dozen stars they retreated to after each defeat. If the robots take Alpha Centauri, Sol—Earth’s star—is next.
I don’t think my friends and family would appreciate being enslaved by deadly alien robots…
After fifteen years of war, there are hardly any men left in their race and the girls are desperate to repopulate . I definitely don’t mind lending a helping hand there. Let’s just say that’s something I’m good at. But surviving the ‘beacon battles’— 5v5 skirmishes —on other planets and moons… that’s not quite so simple.
So this is the second book I have read by the author and I am noticing a trend.
This is another incredibly forced narrative with very weak writing. The character choices are ridiculous when taken in light of the specific situations. The emphasis on marksmanship has no support with further details as the story progresses. The story mocks itself as being absurd, but with the given characters it comes off as just that. This is an idea with no real basis to support itself.
Cringeworthy Softcore porn made for 16 -17 year old boys. The sheer stupidity and cringe can kill anyone who reads or listens to the audiobook. Basically, Playboy bunnies comes to Earth (thinking there are no "intelligent" beings in on earth) and pick up a 18 year old "boy" who they torment, belittles and berates for being "a earth creature". They mock and ridicule him for not knowing aliens are invading the galaxy, alien technology and alien history. They throw the kid in impossible situations without any context and threaten him with harm everytime he questions them. The MC of course drops his pants, bends over and grabs his ankles and smiles while he gets treated like rag. Also he is a wuss and accepts death like a true yellow belly. so the story is for acquired tastes.
I swear, these authors who write erotic fantasy, litrpg, sci-fi, etc. all really enjoy writing beta male main characters that try to act alpha male, but fail miserably. He rolls over in submission to any woman that shows a bit of aggression toward him. I overlooked it for half the book, but I couldn't take it anymore. The guy is pathetic. He's a grown ass man who let's everyone treat him like a child and honestly, thinks of himself as a child. Why can't these authors just write a main character that isn't pathetic?
I have to admit, Kyrie does some pretty stupid things in the beginning. Hell, his plans almost get his teammates killed. To give credit where it’s due though, his last one was just what they needed to buy them some more time. I was on the edge of my seat when he made those seemingly impossible shots. But low and behold, he did.
Kyrie’s a typical high school: He’s not always bright, thinks too loud sometimes, and of course is horny. But, he can be clever, sensitive and he came through in the end.
His friend, Andrei, though, was pretty annoying. First he went from not believing him to begging to board the Lagolians ship. At least he proves his usefulness. Still, I hope we see less of him in future installments.
As for the Lagolians, they’re obviously interesting themselves. I find it interesting that their language sounds like Danish. I’ve always wanted to learn that. It was nice to see Vega come around towards the end. She’s jaded, yet for good reason. Kuzu’s the cheerleader Kyrie needed for his plan to work. Eris was also a nice addition.
The sex of course was pretty good. It was short at times, but it was well done nonetheless and it didn’t linger. The kiss scenes were a great addition too. I have to admit, it was weird that an underage Lagolian named Iva, tried to sleep with him (despite being 15). That was creepy.
The action scenes are pretty gripping. Much like in war, it can get chaotic and confusing at times. I thought they were well done. It was cool to see Kyrie make the shots.
Bottom line, this was a good read. The characters are mostly fun (hopefully, Kyrie will get better as well as Vega), the premise is interesting (then again, how can you go wrong with Rabbit girls?), and the story has a lot of potential. Definitely going to read the sequel and I think you should too after reading this. Hop on in and check it out.
This is the 1st book I've seen from this author. I through early enjoyed the book and gave it 5 stars however I do think there are some problems. The basic story line is high school boy who can shoot straight abducted by bunny girls. The girls are somewhat unique and have different personality. Their race also has some quirks that are interesting besides their beauty. My problems are with the advertised litrpg as unsolicited to the point of lacking. There is a system described that includes levels and stats but never shown and barely had effect. This could be better done or left out. The portal system is good but the intermixed with the stats/levels is weak. Hope this is fixed by next book. I also HATE dumb MC's and this one is thicker than usual. By the end there was some improvement but dumbasses die, get others killed and are not heroes. Lastly I realize the author wanted to impart how good the MC is as a marksman.. But 22of at 250yrs...umm No. There is a 15in drop at 150yrds so longer would require extreme elevation much less the bullets would terminally destabilize and tumble. (Yes had it happen). Still I enjoyed the book and the adventure there is a lot that can be done with this story and series start.
Several things wrong with this book, but it is a fairly decent story. I have no idea why a couple hundred thousand aliens wouldn't try recruiting several billion humans to pregvent their own extinction, but whatever works I guess. There's also the whole we can watch a realtime battle taking place 4 light years away, but sending messages to said partcipants just isn't possible, and you're a backwoods redneck hick for suggesting it attitude made no sense to me at all. Also, I think the story would have been just fine without the harem elements, but that's just me I guess. Anyway, if you're interested in reading some LitRPG with a bit of scifi in it, and aren't bothered by harem elements, then you're all god on this one.
Bought this book out of curiousity and a sense that it could be entertaining read
And aside from the main character always acting a bit slow on the uptake at times, found the book to be a fun, entertaining read with plenty of thrills during the battles.
Really fun read for those who love battle arena video games set in a SciFi setting, althought the battles are smaller scale, they were no less intense.
A young man trying to accomplish a seemingly impossible task ,put five rounds thru the same target hole at 150 yards., Before he could join his father on the annual.deer hunt, is discovered by a small team of alien Bunny girls, looking for help to defend their race from homicidal robots! Things get weird from there. Give it a try!
This story has really great action scenes. I really enjoyed the way the battles were designed to work in this story. Also, there were a few very steamy scenes that were extra hot with the bunny girls. Great concept!
This story cost me some sleep time but it was well worth it. The supporting charters were key. They made the story not just good but great. This is the first book by Mr Reid that I have read but it won't be the last.
I really enjoyed this book quite a bit, it’s currently 3am and I work at 7am so that should say something. I like how the female characters were actually capable, intelligent, and engaged in the story. I will definitely be reading the next book.
It’s a teenager wet dream on paper. I liked it but let keep it real the MC is an idiot and lucky. The plot is stupid and has so many issues I can’t even begin to list them.
