While Madi’s book was respectable, it was SO incredibly repetitive. The intro is 3 min 41 sec & she uses the word “moment” 32 times. That’s once every 6-7 seconds. Yes, I counted because it drove me that nuts ! Someone needs to get this girl a thesaurus! ( point, juncture, instant, time, stage—just a few others that she could’ve switched out!) Courage was another OVERUSED word & as a previous editor she was killing me. I wanted to break out the red pen!
“Some moments are bigger than others & some may be considered small moments.... The big moments are attainable because of the small moments.”🤦🏻♀️
I did listen to this on audio, perhaps it could be different via the physical book but the entire book felt like she was preaching to me. Which was funny because in a chapter to come she announced she had a degree in Ministry. I felt like this book was an Infomercial as well. Girl, stop trying to sell me your scripture!
If you’re looking for a “Tell-All” from this former Bachelor contestant you will get some of the tea, but 75% of this book is truthfully just one big motivational speech. It was like listening to someone read a research paper out loud, with quotes & studies to back up her findings.
While I didn’t hate this book, I definitely didn’t love it. There are much better books out there if you want to get your butt in gear or better yourself. I just didn’t find it very original or even enjoyable. Referring to people as “moment-makers” or “moment-breakers” is just weird.
It was definitely hard to listen to Madi listing ALL of the possible situations that could happen. So much of her discussion is about preparation & for me it’s not plausible to think you can put together solutions to scenarios ahead of time. Life is very unpredictable, if you didn’t already get that by living it. You can prepare for some things like saving yourself for marriage, but it’s just not applicable to all aspects of life.
I did take away some important tips, but not enough to recommend buying this book.
This book was way too preachy for me. I felt like she yelled at me the entire book to do things her way. It’s one thing to be opinionated and live through your faith but this book was very off putting.
had a lot of my freshman girls reading who LOVE her so decided to read for myself and honestly wanted to hear madi’s perspective about the bachelor. interesting to hear her reasoning behind why she went on the show and I admire her for using her platform to speak about her faith. she made a few good points about fighting worldly temptations, but for the most part it was pretty cheesy, repetitive, and not backed by a ton of scripture or sound knowledge.
I wanted to love this so bad cause I really liked Madi on the bachelor. The book was fine and I’m glad I read it, but it all seemed so superficial and unauthentic to me. Sometimes I would find myself getting frustrated at her examples because she would make them out to be a big deal and then it would be about her missing a basket or something. There honestly are some good lessons in this book, but don’t expect much depth.
Just finished the audiobook! Honestly, I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this book, I’m not religious and don’t normally like Bachelor Nation books. But Madi was really true to herself. You can tell she wrote from the heart. Even if I can’t relate to the content, I respect how and what she wrote 👏🏼
I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Madi touches on her time on the Bachelor and what it taught her but that isn’t what this book is about. This had a lot of great advice and ways of framing things in terms of faith and moving forward with your life, and how to prepare yourself to live according to your convictions. I thought it was very genuine and a great read for Christian women in their teens or early adulthood.
Actually blown away by this book. There was so much that spoke to me. It met me at the perfect time.
‘I’m the only one who can keep me from Gods plans and purposes.’ ‘Jesus walks on the waves you feel you’re drowning in.’ ‘If you are waiting that means you have something worth waiting for.’
I wish I would have read this 10 years ago! I think it would be a good book for a teen/early adult! Wish it went a bit deeper for the stage of life I’m in!
Absolutely loved it! “Learn to celebrate other’s successes instead of comparing yourself to them. Be quick to offer congratulations. Be proud of them, be generous with compliments. Choose to let their success inspire you!” When you can genuinely be happy for somebody, It will absolutely change your life and help you see all the good in your own life. God gives you so many blessings, stop comparing your blessings with other people’s blessings!
“You are one of a kind. If you don’t recognize that you are enough, you will always depend on other people to tell you who you are and let others control you. When you know that you are enough by yourself, you won’t rely on other people to get your validation.”
“When you feel confident in who God made you to be, you will KNOW you are enough.”
“Comparison will steal, kill, and destroy. Stop comparing your life to other’s. Stop comparing your successes with somebody else’s. Their success & blessings DO NOT take away from yours. Her victory is not your loss. You have your own race to run. Live your life & be grateful for what YOU have. What you have right now is enough.”
Paging an editor, let's re-outline this and CUT IT DOWN and get rid of anything that is repeated. Then we would have a book 1/4 the length. Granted, I am not the 16-18 year old girl who is OBVIOUSLY the target audience for this. That being said, if that is the target audience, there is so much mention of the ability/inability to get pregnant that the author herself has no experience with and it felt very unnecessary. I think Madison has a good message overall, and I agree with her on most of the spiritual points, but she does not have the life experience or writing chops to present them well. Overall this feels like a poorly led youth message that one summer Sunday in Big Church (if you know, you know).
I am not one to just give out 5 stars to just any book. But I felt as if this book deserved it. Ladies, I highly encourage you to read this book because it sheds light on struggles that we all have probably faced. As Maddie opened up about hardships she faced in life she shared biblical truths and left me with practical tips that have already encouraged me so much in my faith. I am so glad I picked up this book. I feel so encouraged and seen. I am already diving into her other book :) I am excited to read more from her in the future!! also, she gave off Sadie Robertson vibes so if you like her stuff then you will definitely enjoy reading this :))
my original review (quoted below) got deleted lol. not sure why?? from what I remember, this book was repetitive and I continue to question Madi’s (and other bachelor contestants) influence on the Christian community. just my opinion, which I am entitled to as someone with a degree in writing and religion.
if this review gets deleted as well, we’ll know Madi Troutt is out to get me 🤪
original review that was deleted: “anything I say won’t be kind or helpful. it’s just not my vibe, and i’m growing an intolerance to the word ‘moment.’ that is all.”
Here’s the thing, Madi has a lot of good thing to say but overall I found it very repetitive. Maybe it would have been better as a physical read.
That being said I do love Madi and how she stood up for her beliefs on the Bachelor. She did have many good lessons, but it could have been a 2 hour long audio book rather than 6 hours.
Here’s some of my favorite quotes I want to remember.
I have more to offer than my body, my face, and my scoring ability. The most beautiful thing I have to offer is my spirit.
Our confidence shouldn’t be predicated on outside circumstances is should come from within.
Confidence is important but it doesn’t come from our self. Self confidence vs God confidence
Until you know your value and respect yourself you can’t expect others to respect you.
The most valuable thing you have to offer is your spirit. Invest in it.
The secret to boosting confidence is intentional living.
Because I am in Christ I am significant.
If you don’t value your future who will.
Be willing to walk away from those that drag you down.
I have read a few "Bachelor" books, specifically from Emily Maynard, Hannah Brown, and Colton Underwood. I watched the show off and on for years but, I did watch Pete's season which Madison appeared on. While she was not my favorite, I was interested in her story when I saw she had written a book. I am afraid to say, I wish I had left it on the shelf.
The book itself is okay. The writing is decent. The thing I had a problem with is that it is not so much a story, as it is all about preaching and God. I remembered that on the show Madison was very strong in her religious faith, which is fine but, in this book, it was just too much. There are a lot of Bible verses. Madison talks about "Esther" like they are friends in real life. She would sprinkle in the occasional story from her family, childhood, and her time on the show but it was a lot of "this is how you should be living your life the right way". it was just too preachy to me, to the extent that I finished it so fast because I was skipping full pages trying to avoid the "God talk".
It is a shame. I think this could have been a good book if Madison had held off on the God talk, and focused more on telling her own story to inspire people reading about her. This book should have been filed under "self help" not "autobiography" in the store.
I think I might be a little too "old" for this book. The advice in this book felt very basic and things I've already hear a million times in my 30 years, but I think younger girls could get some gems out of it. Madi pulled a lot of examples from high school and college, so I think that's definitely more of the age range that would get something out of this book. I was hoping for more talk of Madi's time on the Bachelor, but I felt she pretty much skimmed over it. The book also got pretty repetitive - it felt like the same over all advice, just said in multiple different ways. Overall, this book wasn't for me and wasn't what I was hoping for, but I think younger aged girls would enjoy it and could even benefit from it.
Cheesy and repetitive and a little holier than thou. While I didn't hate this book, I definitely didn't love it.
I say this because I did truly enjoy the first half (probably because I personally am at a life defining cross roads in my life and hearing encouragement on where God has me in this season is was helpful), but it started to go down hill quickly.
If you're looking for a "Tell-All" from this former Bachelor contestant you will get *some* of the tea, but 75% of this book is just one big motivational speech. It was like listening to someone read a research paper out loud, with quotes & studies to back up her findings.
Aside from her confusing and vague reasoning behind going on the Bachelor, I thought she had a lot of good things to say, and I can respect her unashamed stand for Christ. I am still interested to know how she reconciled in herself it would be okay to date an unsaved man who was also dating numerous other women at the same time. I was hoping this would have some answers, but for whatever reason she didn't touch on that other to say she was called to be on the show.
This book was just... nothing. I learned barely anything about Madison's life or her time on the Bachelor. It's a lot of bible verses in between super vague stories about her life that don't give us much insight into who she is as a person. I don't think she had a ton of interesting stories to work with but the few that she had she didn't use effectively at all.
A beautiful reminder for me that God not only has a purpose for our pain but He wants us to prepare for what He has in store for us. He wants us to prepare well and train well. And sometimes the longer we wait the greater the reward
This entire book is just an ongoing “weird flex”. I see where she was trying to be inspiring and uplifting and I appreciate it... but it felt like 98% of the book just felt like filler. My life is apparently a tragedy compared to hers 😂
I came to know of Madi through her time on the Bachelor. Even before Madi disclosed she was a Christian on the show, her love for Jesus was apparent and obvious. I have always admired Madi’s ability to hold firm to her convictions in an environment that was highly tempting to do the opposite.
In this book, Madi shares how to hold strong to our identity in Jesus- even when it’s hard, inconvenient, scary, or seemingly impossible to do. I think this book is best for young women who are new in their faith, but has good principles all women/men can learn from.
The book had a very strong first half and towards the end felt a little redundant and non-concise. There were also times I did not agree 100% with the outlook Madi presented, but it was overall really good because she always points the reader back to Jesus- and that is definitely something I can get behind. Overall, I would recommend this book.
I just really enjoyed this. I think she’s a great role model. I want my teenage daughter (and son!) to read this. Some of the negative reviews were just kind of silly. Like, one said her ideas were too basic. I think as a young person, hearing them for the first time, they would be very impactful! And as someone who has heard them many times over, they are good reminders! Another bad review said she was repetitive. If you’ve ever been a parent of a teen, or had employees, you know you must repeat yourself over and over before your words ever sink in! Her niche market is young women who I think she relates to very well. I appreciate her writing this book and am impressed by her being wise beyond her years.
I didn’t know she was on the bachelor. I haven’t watched that show since Jef with one F. I picked up the book because the foreword was by Sadie Robertson and I love her.
I usually hate “self-help” books because they’re all the same, but holy moly, I was not prepared. 🤯
She spoke of faith, but more than that she spoke about finding self worth in the RIGHT places. She talked about finding your purpose. She talked about female empowerment and self discipline.
Even if you aren’t a Christian, I highly recommend. I’ve never felt more encouraged, humbled and excited for the future than I do right now after finishing this masterpiece. 💪🏻
Now excuse me while I go watch season 24 of The Bachelor.
I’ve been a long time Madi Prewett fan largely due to her faith practices and God-centered decisions. I feel like this book gave me what I was looking for - insight into her experience on the Bachelor, insight into her personal life, and ideas on how to improve my personal walk with God. I walked away with some really valuable insights about my own relationship with God and with more respect for Madi. Overall a really good read!
