The Omega Next Door #1

No Reservations: Part One

Rate this book
Tormented by those who should have protected her, Olivia has one chance at an actual life and she just has to give herself with no reservations.

Born to blossom into an omega, something in Olivia’s life went wrong. Instead of having her heats and looking for her own alphas, she is defective. Her body gives her pain and she wants nothing to do with the thought of a sexual liaison with anyone.
Her sister follows her father’s footsteps and keeps her on their property and running the bed and breakfast which is a boring existence for Olivia until her heat is due and her rule against taking reservations during that time is broken by her greedy sibling. There is an emergency and they are going to be hosting a guest.
No one said the guest would be an alpha.
What follows is a meeting, a realization and a rescue that changes not only Olivia’s life, but that of her pride as well.
Argus is just going to a family wedding rehearsal when he begins hearing the phrase defective omega. He has researched a lot of omegas and there is no such thing as a defective one. When he realizes that these words are describing the dainty little woman who helped his panthers get settled, he has a quick discussion with his pridemates and they head off to rescue the omega in question. With any luck, she will choose them. If not, they will have to charm her. Either way, Olivia is theirs.

The dialogue is stilted and doesn't use many contractions (e.g. "I am" instead of "I'm"), which makes it sound odd. Still, I was quite liking the story until 60% when their neighbour, Ford, a male omega, was introduced. Olivia has just bonded with her three mates and she's still in the nest with Ambrose and Dexter, just coming out of her first heat, when they notice Ford watching and they give him permission to join them and pleasure her orally. He's practically a stranger to her, and no matter if they felt he's not a threat because he's an omega and he couldn't get her pregnant, it was weird and it made a mockery of their supposed bond.

After that it all goes downhill because Olivia panics that she's not important to them, and Ford takes her away from her mates' home, blathering some nonsense that because he's an omega, he can understand her better and he can help her navigate her new life. The mates don't go after her and try to make her come back to them. In fact, Argus says that it's okay if she wants to spend a lot of time at Ford's house next door, as long as she comes home to them at night and for her heats. "Any relationship you two pursue is your own business," he says. He sounded like he couldn't care less about Olivia and that all she is to him is a body to play with. The three of them are the least possessive and protective alphas I've ever met.

Ford asks her to sleep with him in his nest, and although he doesn't have straight up sex with her, he continues to pleasure her orally and she allows it. Although at the beginning the three mates have agreed that she needs to consent to things, they don't act like it. Not just with what happened with Ford, but also, they discover that when they have a group hug with Olivia in the centre and the three of them start purring, she gets aroused very quickly and can orgasm within 15-20 seconds. So they just do it for the fun of it even when Olivia asks them not to. And they do it in front of other people. Don't even get me started on how Ambrose tried to blackmail her to go to him by using his lion, Caesar, to cage her in until she would give him what he wanted; and how they manipulated her back to their house by using Dexter's growing pains through the mate bond, so she would come home and try to soothe Dexter's pain. It all left a very sour taste in my mouth.

At 90% another guy is introduced, Yemeen (which, in Cantonese, is a type of noodle or a noodle dish, and thus was a very distracting name to me). For some reason Olivia, who was skinny dipping, decides it's okay to climb out of the swimming pool nude while he's standing there looking at her. I don't even understand why or how her personality has changed so drastically. It turns out that Yemeen had been invited to join the pride before Olivia came along, but he refused, but now that he has met Olivia, he's regretting it because, well... omega! In front of Ford and Dexter, he asks Olivia for a kiss "because I want to know how badly I f*cked up". Dexter growls at the request, but Olivia looks to Ford -- Ford, instead of her mate, Dexter, whose mark she bears on her hip -- Ford gives a tiny nod and then she does kiss Yemeen, and it's a hot kiss which gets both of them worked up. Again, in front of Ford and Dexter.

I was willing to overlook the fact that she could catch up on modern technology and get her high school diploma after only a month, while also coping with healing post-surgery and a lonely heat without her alphas physically present. And how she keeps referring to her trauma matter-of-factly and doesn't actually react in any way like a traumatised person, except for being freaked when Ambrose tells her he can't wait to let his inner dom come out to play and get all BDSM with her. Unfortunately she doesn't freak in front of him and doesn't speak to him about it, but it's part of the reason why she runs from her mates and hides at Ford's house.

But I can't overlook the horrible love story between Olivia and her mates. One moment they were all desperate and eager to please her, and the next she's in Ford's house and they don't care that much? They plan to court her and bring her on dates, but with no sense of urgency, like the next day or the day after that? They don't care that she's sleeping with Ford? They were the LEAST protective, possessive, and caring alphas that I've ever seen. Not going to read the next book in this series.

This book was confusion. Eh, confusion, not confusing.

There was a while back I started it, couldn't even get finished with chapter 1, left it hanging, tried it a second time, readers block then and then yesterday for some reason I just started it, couldn't sleep and went with it.

The writing/conversations are stilted. Like the emotions are not being properly conveyed through written word, so you find we have a scene where the guys start one conversation and by the end of the dialogue they are in another place because it doesn't come across that they finished the first part. It felt like V.G. wrote a scene, left, came back to it and finished it and added another.

Confusion is when Olivia is at the house with the guys, they've fucked, then all of a sudden oh no, let me cry, because they don't want me and are willing to share me out. The scene/confrontation with Ford where he comes in at the end of her heat, is compelled to eat her out coz of her perfume/slick, she let's him do it, then breaks down, didn't feel organic/flowing. It is one of the key scenes that I am saying the writing is stilted. Why? Because she came from a domestic violence setting, she's basically super smart and they taught her everything at the omega center, but she does not know how to speak up for herself, Ford has to become her pseudo mouth piece. My favourite, most irritating novel plot device, lack of communication between characters. She could have said could have conveyed her no and by that time the guys could have definitely felt it through the bond.

It felt like the book was coming to an end, then V.G. thought, okay, not enough drama, yes they've had moments of misunderstanding that have been explained away/resolved so far, but let's add on 2 more guys and make the original 3 look like dumb dumbs and really stir the pot.

Ehe, another scene of confusion I have remembered. Ambrose basically is a Dom in the book. Olly even calls him sir and researches while at the centre, then all of a sudden, the spankings he mentioned at the start are now a no go zone and by the end of this book, he is willing to go kink free because Olly can't handle it. The emotion of this was not originally conveyed!

Then, towards the end with Yemeen's intro, basically when she perfumes, now every dude is going to get into her harem?

There hasn't been a beta guy so far, so I know there's probably one more guy who will be introed in book 2. There's just a disconnect in the emotions/communication in the book and too many dicks being piled on, way too fast. Olivia herself demonstrates this when she mentioned she's basically been fucking the guys left, right and centre, but doesn't know any of their last names.

That being said, the book/smut was hot. And yes, I shall read book 2 as well.

I really really enjoyed the first half of the book-was so excitedwith story and characters but then the story went completely off the rails when the h moved in with the next door neighbor. The plot became disjointed and weird-the MCs went from developing close bonds to being clueless idiots too busy with work? Things became convoluted and the story just didn’t flow after that. The h becoming sexually involved with more men and her mates being ok with it was so odd. By the end I just wasn’t sure I liked the any of the MCs any more

A mostly enjoyable omegaverse romance.

I enjoyed this omegaverse RH romance. However, I have to admit that I enjoyed the third book in this series far more than the first two. I read the third book first, and it seemed to be far more of a romance than this first duet. The writing in this duet was gripping and I finished it in one day, but I found it less than satisfying as a romance duet. The sizzling scenes were great and I enjoyed the plot, but there seemed to be a distinct lack of love and devotion by the end for this omega and her whole pride, which I did not like.

Not My Wheelhouse

I read and finished it but I won’t be buying the others. I enjoy most of her books but these Omega and Beta ones are just not my cup of tea. I don’t mind Omega books, or the genre, but I do like more story than sex scenes in them. This for me was a book full of nothing but sex scenes. To each his own, everyone likes different things in different genres, for that it gets 3 stars.

This book was not what I expected. Well, I didn't know what omegaverse went into this book blind. The beginning deals with abuse. I liked the males but as the world continued to build, I realized this was probably not going to make my top 1000 list. It got weirder when the neighbor, a male omega is introduced. By the end, our traumatized heroine sleeps with seemingly everything that has equipment.

Mixed

This book was a rollercoaster for me, as initially I didn't like it, as it appeared to be sex scenes linked to together with a shallow storyline. There was a sense of development but still too many sex scenes for my liking.

I do not like the idea behind the alpha omega relation

Why they haven't any right or status, just because of the heats.. It seems a shalow world to build the stories. I much prefer the beta female line of stories

Got some weird (icky) feels from this book, especially from the sex scenes. Olivia did not seem to be more than a sex toy for the guys, and no matter how much they were blithering about consent it was only respected when it suited them.

Impressive

This author has often come up with really interesting ideas that never get fully fleshed out and leave a lot of confusing loose ends.
In this case, the story was well written. Not her most imaginative, but a good story nonetheless.

This feels more of an L.V. Lane book than a Viola Grace book. I read Lane’s books on Omega and they have the same description of Omega traits

Omega Next Door part 1

Omega are very special and for her family to be so evil as to treat her like that! The punishment will suit the crime! Good read, waiting for part 2!

What?

I have enjoyed most of your books. Have bought most of them, but this one is just a sex manual for cats. Saw few redeeming qualities. Will hope the next book is better.

A Cinderella Paranormal MMFM Romance

Olivia "Olly" Haven is an Omega, and has been told she was defective. Abused by her family, she is tied to the family B&B, who works for food and shelter. Forced into seclusion during her heat.
A big wedding and her sisters greed brings a guest to the B&B when she needs to be secluded.
Alpha feline, Argus Denler has come to town for a family wedding with his two jaguar's. When they arrive at the B & B, his boys are taken with their hostess, which is very unusual for the two big cats.
At the wedding he hears rumors of a defective Omega. His small pride of three have been looking for an Omega of their own. They know their is no such thing as a defective Omega. when Argus learn it is Olly. He and his Pride mates Ambrose and Dexter, rush to stake their claim. When they find her they know something is very wrong and rush Olly to the Omega training center. Stake their claim.
Olly has to learn what it means to be an Omega. What is normal, what is not and what her rights are. Her guys are keeping in contact through calls and gifts with their sent.
Olly and her guys are finally under one roof. The attraction is strong, her guys are giving her time. All four are struggling. They guys treat her as they would any other Omega. They have showered her with gifts and gave her the freedom to do whatever she wants. Olly let them each claim her. Olly isn't like any other Omega, so mistakes are made, feelings hurt.
Their neighbor Ford, also an Omega, though unclaimed, steps in. Olly moves in with Ford and his bodyguards. Ford works in film and soon Olly is working for him. Her mates are watching her grow and are working on building a strong relationship. Then another feline Alpha takes an interest. Olly likes how Yemean smells.
Ends in a little cliffhanger. A lot of sex. Multiple partners, shared partners, manage both MFM and MMF. Looking forward to seeing how things play out for Only and her mates.

I ran across this author by luck.
It is my first reading about 'Omegas', and I'm uncertain about her Alpha's, and their ¿knots? and ¿locks? (she calls it something else) but it is very interesting & gripping story so I'm jumping into part 2 immediately.

This book was an ok read and while I enjoyed some parts the book just seemed to throw me off. Mostly how they treat her. It rubs me the wrong way. The way that they talk and treat her. It’s toxic.
