Will the boom in Miami turn into a bust for Biscayne Bay?
Skyrocketing boat sales have made the waters of South Florida increasingly dangerous by turning quiet backwater coves into venues for huge sandbar parties—and not everyone is there for a good time. Along with the fun-seeking crowds comes the worst elements of Miami society. When a boat is found adrift in the national park with the body of a DEA agent aboard, Special Agent Kurt Hunter is caught in the crossfire between the city’s seedy underbelly and the natural habitat he’s sworn to protect.
To solve the murder, Kurt must investigate the in-crowd, only to find the case leads him deep into the sometimes dark history of the park’s out-islands. To make matters worse, he’s once again forced to navigate the political maze of the warring agencies involved.
In Backwater Haven, you’ll find the colorful characters, tropical locations, Florida history, and marine action that readers have come to expect in the Kurt Hunter Mysteries series.
The author clearly does not understand the environmental impact of internal combustion engines and electric cars. For his benefit I offer the following: ICE transportation is responsible for about30% of climate change (sea level rise, storm severity, sea water temperature). Electric car batteries are recycled and do not re-enter the waste stream. The main threat to Florida Bay is population increase and the lack of environmental laws and enforcement (Republican Party apathy).
Kurt has been promoted into the position of Special Agent In Charge, a position that Kurt doesn’t think he wants. But, taking the position will enable Kurt to make a few changes. His first change is to promote Mariposa into a position to be his media liaison. His second change is to hire Sam to be the technical guru. As all of these changes are being accomplished, an environmental activist is about to go out of control. This book is fast paced and exciting and brings Kurt into the technological world, kicking and screaming.
An excellent mystery with a great storyline and engaging characters. Contains plenty of action, lots of suspense, and great tropical locations. A real page turner that was very enjoyable. Highly recommended story in the Kurt Hunter Mystery series.
I read this book as a continuation of the Kurt Hunter Mystery series. This book went above my expectations as expected by Steven Becker. A common theme and idea that I appreciate the most that are used commonly throughout the book is a two-faced environment, Miami looks like a great place to stay but once you discover its true secrets it becomes a nightmare for Kurt Hunter. The common language that is utilized in the book is technical, crime scene forensic language. Highly recommended for people who like a good murder mystery/crime scene book in a tropical environment.
Another Good book in this series. The plots build on each other so best to read in order. The characters are great and realistic. This is the kind of book that when you pick it up to read to can't put it down. Very well written and the words just flow and before you know it you are at the end.
