Blue Dawn #1

Blue Dawn

Rate this book
Almost five years ago America as everyone knew it, came to an abrupt end in a spectacular coup d’etat. It was called the Liberation by those progressives and radicals that screamed for its outcome; the Fall, by its victims whose freedoms were trampled. The White House and the Capitol were overrun by anarchists and the leaders of the once proud nation were either imprisoned or sent to Social Quarantine Camps. The President was arrested and eventually died in prison, or so everyone was led to believe. America was rebooted in a new progressive/socialist image, Newmerica. The United States of old was gone, its history erased and rewritten, its icons destroyed. By the time people tried to organize resistance it was too late. The citizens lost their history, their flag, their traditions, their freedoms, and their leaders. Newmerica is a state of reparations, citizens turning on citizens, where even the churches are targets of social justice.

Five years later, an unlikely group of patriots emerges from the shadows seeking a restoration of their nation. Two Secret Service agents struggle with their secrets from the night of the Fall. One son of a patriotic college professor struggles with his father’s legacy and the important artifacts that his father managed to preserve. A young man finds himself face-to-face with the lies the Newmerica government has told him and forced to become a fugitive. A covert operative of the new government seeks out the truth about the ‘traitor-President’s’ fate while coming to terms with her own dark past. Twists of fate or destiny bring these people together with the mission of trying to save what is left of the once-United States.

Time is running out as the forces of the government hunt down this group of renegades – hoping to smother, once and for all, any trace of what was America.

Ripped from today’s headlines, bestselling and award-winning author Blaine Pardoe presents an eerily realistic view of an alternate history political thriller where conservatism is a crime and patriotism is treason.

DNF. Pretty delusional

What's weirder is all the 5 star reviews on here saying stuff like "this is what'll happen if the libs get their way!" Yah, sure.

If anyone wants to understand the modern conservative victim mentality, this book is a crash course. Unreadable propaganda that demonstrates neither a coherent understanding of liberal philosophy/politics nor how US society actually works currently.

Also, less importantly, it would benefit from a once-through by an editor - grammar errors, repetition, and too much exposition.

I want to tell you that this book is satire, but unfortunately it's not. It is at times so ridiculous that I can hardly believe it is real. A better title for this book is "Blue Dawn: The Most Uninformed FOX News Driven Conspiracist Fantasy in History"

The characters and author have zero self-awareness and understanding of actual history.

It's just extreme-right victim-culture porn, so if that's your yum, congrats, you found it.

Chilling example of what if the left gets everything they always wanted with the crazy things they conjure up. Great read and didn't put the book down till I was finished. Already the Left is slamming the book because they know its the truth of what they want to do with America

I've been meaning to write a review of Blaine Pardoe's Blue Dawn for quite some time. I apologize to Blaine (as if he pays attention to such things) for taking my time.

I give Blue Dawn five out of five stars. It is a fun story, but one must read between the lines, I think, to really enjoy it.

Why do I say that?

Blue Dawn is about a violent takeover of the United States government by so-called "woke" progressives, i.e., the radical left. It begins with a January 6 like protest at the Capitol building and White House in Washington that culminates with the death of the US president and vice president (whom we later find actually escaped). In their stead, the Speaker of the House of Representatives – a "woke" progressive, naturally – assumes office as President.

And then the purges begin; all US government agency heads are replaced by "progressives".

"Wokeness" is key here. It is the idea that people can be "cancelled" for voicing antiquated opinions (antiquated as defined by the "woke" left), or misspeaking. If you aren't onboard with using proper pronouns – they/them for transgendered people, for example, if they so desire – then you are 'cancelled'. Cancelled means being fired from your job and otherwise blacklisted from future employment.

But Blue Dawn goes even further. Remember those Black Lives Matter protests that led to the removal of statues honoring Confederate generals and slaveowners? That equates to the erasure of history, according to Blaine – or, rather, to the characters in Blue Dawn. Even the very history of the United States is depicted as irredeemably racist by the radical left in Blue Dawn. There are, of course, constituencies on the left where this is so. But they aren't the mainstream no matter how extreme the rhetoric on the right suggests.

In Blue Dawn, these far-left radicals ascend to the highest offices of the US government in a mini-revolution, ushering in a leftist Utopian version of America. Which means a reimagining of "America" as "Newmerica" replete with a new flag. The Star Spangled Banner is relegated to the ash heap of history, right alongside the Nazi and Confederate flags of the past, and banned as a symbol of racism.

The use of language is strictly enforced in Newmerica. You either repeat the official mantras of the new and enlightened elites, or you will be blacklisted or worse.

'Worse' means being paid a visit by Social Justice Squads who discharge vigilante justice with impunity.

Pretty scary stuff. And great fodder for a novel. I really enjoyed Blue Dawn, despite its twisting of actual reality. Which is where my comment "one must read between the lines, I think, to really enjoy it" comes in.

I don't know Blaine personally. I've never met him. But the albeit limited snippets of Blaine's life that comes through in his public profiles suggest to me that Blaine is one smart cat. Makes me wonder if Blaine really believes what he is writing. Or is he taking true events like the rightwing January 6 assault on the Capitol Building in Washington to prevent the peaceful transfer of power and spinning them into a fictitious leftist revolt to somehow lure true believers on the right into a hall of mirrors. A hall of mirrors whereby they are confronted with their own anti-democratic rhetoric and desires and forced to come to some kind of personal epiphany and reckoning.

One can hope.

In the meantime, I very much enjoyed Blue Dawn in that vein and look forward to continuing the series.

Lastly, the title Blue Dawn pays homage to the classic (IMHO) 1980s film Red Dawn that depicts a communist invasion of America. It also refers to the geographic division in the USA in recent decades between Republican-led "red states", and Democratic-led "blue states".

Clever.

Great read, a chilling What if look at a possible future. Similar to the Kelly Turnbull series by Kurt Schlicter, if you liked those you’ll enjoy this.

Pardoe plunges the reader into an alternative reality in which extreme ideologues overthrow the US government and control society. He braids the lives of multiple characters to examine the different aspects of this alternative society. Pardoe is eager to explicitly comment on politics, such as the way the Youth Corp pays members based on oppression or the police have been disbanded for being too racist and in their place exists para-military that terrorize dissidents. Pardoe’s writing is expository in style. I particularly appreciated that each character had a unique personal characteristic even if they were very minor. I also enjoyed the badass, vivid descriptions in the action scenes: as the reader, I had a hard time predicting who would win the fight and it kept me in my toes. Pardoe is very explicit with his political commentary and I respect a bold writer.

It's a fun plot line but the writing was just too heavy handed in its discussion of wokeness and the ideology of those that would infect America. The writing was also very expository and didn't leave much to the reader.

This was an enjoyable 'what if' story about progressive lunatics taking over government, though it has plenty of flaws. While this book starts out strong, by the end it becomes highly repetitive with people rethinking the same thoughts about details that have already been well explained earlier in the story. However, despite a somewhat weakened ending because of the repetitive details drawing out the ending, it was a book I was eager to see through to completion.

The only major problem I have with this book is the constant grammatical errors. Quotations are regularly missing from the start of a statement causing confusion on where a private thought ended and the dialogue starts. Also, there are a few times where the person talking refers to the person they are talking to by the wrong name. It does confuse parts of the story, but overall this is still an enjoyable book.

If you liked the Kurt Schlichter series you'll like this one just as much. The dems basically up their game and use Thug Lives Matter/Pantifa to seize DC and the woke US "Milleytary" abandon a GOP admin to the mobs. Finished the last chapter this morning after the GESTAPOBAMA FBI raided Mar-a-lago which was creepily coincidental. Fast-paced and well written despite US college graduate-level functional illiterate editing at points. Highly recommend!

All too plausible

If Trump had won re-election and the left had overreacted... this might be our reality. Good plot and characters, but needs an editor badly. First up, Charli and Cayley for the two FMCs? Confusing. Add a bunch of typos and a Glock with a thumb safety, definitely needs editing. Otherwise, five stars.

It's alright for a schlocky thriller novel. If you like to watch bad movies because they're bad, you MIGHT be entertained a little by this book, if you can get past the deranged anti-progressive propaganda.
Holy f**k, right wingers actually literally believe the absurd propaganda about "progressives" presented in the book.
We are doomed. There is no hope. There are no solutions.

language

The story may be ok but the language is horrible, he seems to love the “f” word and I don’t think it adds anything to the story. This will be my last book from this author.

Wow, wow, WOW! Horrifying to think what the crazy far-left is actually capable of. Trust us when we say it is all done on purpose, they can't screw up our great nation this horribly this fast without it being intentional. This was great. Heading to purchase the rest of the series right now!

The story was good though I took a star off for the grammatical errors in the book, mostly missing quotation marks.
