Wicked Bay #3

Oltre le bugie

Rate this book

I really liked Kyle’s character in two previous books. Actually, I liked him more than the main characters there and I was really excited to read his own story and have high expectations. But unfortunately it wasn’t what I expected and the writing wasn’t that good so… But I think it was just me because most of the reviewers liked this book, so don’t pay attention to me and read it, hope you enjoy it!

"Because that was the problem with lies - the more you told, the easier they became."

Wicked Lies is my third book by L.A. Cotton and it's also the third book in the Wicked Bay Series.
It can be read as a standalone without a problem. But to better grab the whole family and friends thing better, I suggest starting the series from the beginning.
This book tells us the story of Kyle and Laurie which have been introduced to us in the first two books. And as I liked both already I was really looking forward to their story.

"And I walked away from him wondering how the one person who promised you the world could also be the one to ruin it."

L.A. Cotton did not disappoint. She did both characters great justice and Wicked Lies became just another page-turner to me. Her writing style creates a great dynamic and has an easy flow. You hop on her wave of words and just drift along.

"Because love was like that. It didn't judge or walk away when times got hard. It was patience and forgiveness and even if, in the end, it wasn't enough. Right now, it was everything."

Kyle and Laurie are a great match as much as Lo and Rick. They just click and fit. They all act like the teenagers they are, but they are also pretty grown up for their age. They are easy to like with their goofy and witty attitudes and lovable personalities.

Life throws them life-changing obstacles in their way. Laurie and Kyle deal with them as best as possible with decisions they seem right for them, because they don't know any better. But lies and secrets always divide. They create hurt and broken hearts. Luckily Laurie and Kyle are strong and they love each other enough to walk through those fires together. They come out of these troubled times with an even stronger bond and deeper love. I'm pretty sure they can survive everything.

"I thought some secrets were better left buried, but they weren't. Because in the end, the truth always came out. And when it did, you could let it ruin you or you could own your mistakes and move forward."

Wicked Lies is a fantastic third book in this YA series which keeps your eyes glued to the pages and turning those while loosing any sense of time.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

3.5 ⭐'s

Knowing about Kyle and Laurie from reading the first two books in the series, it's really hard to believe that anything they would go through would keep them apart.

That being said, it was hard to give much weight to the drama although I did like seeing a deeper and less jovial side of Kyle.

It was also hard to believe that Kyle would keep such secrets after what his family had just gone through and especially to keep secrets from Laurie.

What wasn't hard to believe was the worries they both had about their relationship. They both have a lot pulling at them and not always a lot of support but as long as they were open with each other, they were golden.

I did enjoy the relationships between all the couples especially Nick and Summer (they are so cute and I can't wait to read their book). I'm also curious about Macey and what's going on with her but the little tidbit about Trey and a certain someone definitely piqued my interest!

The story sets up the next book nicely. I'm definitely looking forward to the drama when Maverick goes off to college!

This is the 3rd book in the series and although it could be read as a stand-alone I would recommend reading the others so that you get a good grasp on the group dynamics.

I love these guys a group of friends who have become a family. So this is Kyle and Laurie’s story and I’ll admit I had reservations about Laurie beforehand but I should have had faith that the author would do the characters justice.

The story focus is Kyle who’s life has started to spiral out of control and how the secrets he’s keeping impact on not only his relationship with the love of his life but his friends and family.

I really can’t recommend this series enough it’s absolutely flipping fantastic.

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of this book. It was a great addition to the series. It was nice so see a serious side of Kyle and to catch up with the rest of the gang. Surely there can't be any more secrets to come out.....

Kyle Stone has it all. A close, loving family with a stepbrother/best friend, a forever kind of girlfriend, and NFL star talent as a football player. He's good-looking, funny, and popular. But his life is crashing down around him. He's keeping secrets and telling lies to those closest to him. He's risking everything as his anger grows and his lies close in on him. Laurie, his girlfriend knows he's lying but so is she. She has lost herself trying to please her parents and worrying about holding on to Kyle. She's tired of pretending to be the perfect daughter, tired of trying to get her parents to notice her. Kyle and Laurie both feel the distance growing between them but neither is brave enough to confront their problems head-on. Kyle loves Laurie, all of his plans include her. Laurie loves Kyle, she can't imagine a future without him. But lies destroy even the deepest love.

Wicked Lies is the kind of book I have a difficult time reviewing, even reading. I have a low tolerance for secrets and lying even when the characters believe they are protecting others or have another noble reason. It's just not good enough for me. I spend the entire time screaming in my head, "For heaven's sake, just talk. If you love someone, you must trust them. When you hide important things from them, you don't trust. Your love isn't what you think it is". I wanted to shake Kyle. There was NO reason for all of the angst and heartache to occur in this book. It was all on him. Understand, I love Kyle. He's a great guy, so charming, so loving, so open with his feelings but he was stupid for the majority of this book; hurting himself and Laurie, endangering their relationship, and slightly risking his future. He's lucky that I love him enough to stand by him. Laurie worried me. I was afraid she would cross a line but she turned out to be stronger than I gave her credit for. I love when everything is good between these two. The world seems right. They are sweet, sexy, meant to be. Obviously, this book created great turmoil for me! I stayed tense, upset, worried. Great writing!

I appreciated that we learned Kyle's secret almost at the beginning. It made the reader part of the complicity. We were beside Kyle with each new lie, each mistake. It made everything seem more real. The friendships were as important as the love relationships; Kyle and Maverick, Laurie and Lo, Kyle and Lo. The way these characters are interwoven is so true to life. The dual POV's helped stress this.

The Stone-Prince family is a treasure trove of characters. Maverick and Lo, Kyle and Laurie, we have Macey's secrets to uncover, and now Kiera (love her so far) to get to know. Wicked Bay may be small but it's not short on drama!

Another fantastic addition to the Wicked Bay series, and a book I devoured in less than twenty-hour hours. I have adored Kyle in this series to date, and I couldn't wait to read his story. Lianne did not disappoint. I really felt for our boy, and this was an emotional, heartfelt read. He made some silly mistakes, and hiding stuff from those you love is never a good idea but it all came full circle and ended up in a good place. Kyle is such a great character and I loved his banter and his swoony romantic side - a definite addition to my book boyfriend list!

I floved seeing Rick and Lo so much too, and seeing how united they are just warmed my heart, but I'm anxious for what's coming next with them with Maverick heading to college and Lo having to face Caitlin during senior year by herself. I have a feeling the angst and drama are about to be ramped up, and I cannot wait for Wicked Games.

Another well-written, angsty romance that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. If you are a fan of this series, you will definitely want to read this one, and if you haven't picked up Wicked Beginnings yet, what are you waiting for??!!

I just read Wicked Lies the third book in the Wicked Bay series by LA Cotton and really enjoyed it. This is Kyle Stone and Laurie Davison's story. Kyle seems to have it all. He's seventeen years old, a very talented football player, has a great family, never has to worry about money, and loves his girlfriend Laurie with all his heart. Laurie loves Kyle so much but she feels like he's keeping things from her and she worries about their future.

Laurie comes from a family with money. Her parents are pretty distant. They go on trips and go away for long periods of time and leave the high school girl by herself all the time. They do whatever they can to push their agenda on her. They want her to go to Berkeley and to date a guy that comes from a rich and respectable family. Kyle plays football and comes from a family that isn't all the time reputable. She loves Kyle and wants to be with him. But she knows he's keeping secrets and she can't handle the lies anymore.

Kyle comes from a strong family. His father, his stepmother Rebecca, his stepbrother Maverick, stepsister Macy, and half sister Summer. And he has his cousin Lo that is like another sister. He has loved one girl and he knows with everything in him that she's the one for him. He has two things in his life that he needs and those are football and Laurie. But his life has started to spiral and it's eating him up inside. He's keeping things from his family and Laurie but he's doing it to protect them, not hurt them.

I'm looking forward to reading more from the Stone-Princes and Wicked Bay.

Wicked Lies is the third book in the Wicked Bays series. This is Kyle and Laurie's story. Can be read as a standalone. But this series is good and you don't want to miss out on all of it's AWESOMENESS .

Kyle's humor is used for self defense, to deflect attention or just to be funny at times. Kyle is in for a life changing situation. He doesn't know how to handle it and it causes problems with everyone. He is stubborn. Laurie is sweet. It was nice to see her come out of her shell. You can tell the two of them are meant to be. It was a bonus to see more of Lo and Rick. I can't wait to see what Wicked Games will have in store for us.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

I liked this. Lo and Rick are still my favorite because they touched me in a way that not many other books have, but I really loved Kyle and was beyond interested in the goofball's secrets. Laurie was a good friend in Lo's book, but for some reason, I had a hard time reading her story. I think it was because I was so sad at how restricted she felt in a life that should've been something close to blessed. Kyle, the poor guy, went through a lot. I loved him a little more after this. It was interesting, definitely full of drama, but I enjoyed the ending and was overall entertained with the dialogue and high points.

I've been so excited for Kyle's book since the very first moment I started this series.

But boy oh boy, I did not imagine his book would be so emotional. Damn.

It was incredible though, the plot, the emotions. The angsty scenes. L. A. Cotton always gives us good angst.

I'm loving this series so much!! Can't wait to read more.

So happy that Kyle Stone got to tell his story. I loved his character, the goofy and witty personality. However, there were so many more layers that he was hiding behind and when he starts keeping secrets from his girlfriend Laurie, things quicky snowball before completely imploding as secrets always have a way of coming out. Can Kyle and Laurie survive their final year together at Wicked Bay High? Only time will tell.

This is a great continuing series with lots of side characters who are all interesting in their own way, I am thoroughly enjoying reading about all their lives. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I love this series, but my favourite is still book #1. Why? Because of the angst.
All in all, I did enjoy it - L.A.'s writing is realistic and I could easily sympathize with the main characters.

Another brilliant addition to the series.

Wicked Lies is Kyle and Laurie's story and although they were very much a big part of the story in book one and two you could read their story without reading previous books.

Wicked lies is very much a YA read with very little angst or drama. Laurie faces pressure from her parents who want her to date someone other than Kyle who's aspiration is to make it into pro Soccer and Kyle is keeping family secrets leading Laurie to jump to wrong conclusions with hidden text messages.

It was great just to catch up with the characters, I love the feel of this series, Wicked Lies is a great college/ young adult read with all the trials and tribulations that come with characters in that age group and all these characters are great, I love reading about their lives and dramas that come with them.

I'm looking forward to the next book, L.A Cotton always has me intrigued with a few characters before the end of each book which leaves me wanting more.

If your new to LA Cotton and a maybe you have read or are a fan of Tijan and I have read quite a few of her books dive into any of LA Cottons books and you won't be disappointed.

Note or hint for Author ;-) The characters grow on you and as a reader you take an interest in how things progress so I would also love to fast forward 10 years with these loved up teens maybe as a bonus at the end of the series.

3.5 STELLINE.

Cotton. Chi mi conosce sa bene quanto adori questa autrice, che scrive deliziosi new adult sport romance, spesso con connotazioni hate to lover, che tanto amo, e io sono sempre in attesa delle sue storie. Sempre.

Kyle Stone has the world at his feet. He has everything he wants in life . . . money, popularity, friends, football and Laurie. He always has a joke to share and is the life of the party. He’s also got a secret that is tearing him apart and could change everything if it comes out.

Laurie Davison knows all about secrets. While she seems to have it all, including Kyle, she feels like she is simply going through the motions of life. Her parents are absent most of the time and when they are present continually push her to make decisions that make them happy and not her regarding who she dates and what college she attends. She loves Kyle, but she can also tell something is up with him. And those secrets are driving a wedge between them and causing her to trust her choices in following him to USC for college or going where her parents want.

Kyle’s struggling to keep it together and protect those he loves, but by pushing them away it’s causing heartbreak he can’t handle. When the truth finally comes up will it be enough to ruin Kyle Stone or will those that know and love him best rally around him as he’s done for them.

Wicked Lies had so many plot twists and turns it kept me enthralled and sucked me right back into highschool. The Stone-Princes have more family drama than you can imagine and Kyle is put through the ringer in this book! Kyle and Laurie are a sweet match, but their relationship is definitely put to the test by not only the outside world but by the secrets and worries they keep from one another.

Along with Kyle’s struggles, we also get Laurie’s backstory which really gives incredible depth to her character! There were a few scenes where she finally takes control of her life that made me want to stand up and cheer for her. It was fun to watch her really come into her own as a young woman rather than a teenage girl.

For fans of the series, the author also gives us plenty of Maverick and Lo while still keeping the main story focussed on Kyle and Laurie. Without giving things away, I have to say that I have a whole new respect for Mamma P - Rebecca Prince after this book. She totally rocks. I’m also looking forward to see how the newest addition to Wicked Bay High fares next school year.

Wicked Lies has plenty of heat, lots of angst, unbelievable drama and a crazy look into young adult life in Wicked Bay. 5 stars

Great storytelling....

Kyle Stone has it all: a loving family and the prospects of a glittering professional NFL career; Laurie has it all: beautiful, smart, popular and with a loving boyfriend.... on the surface everything is shiny but a closer inspection reveals that underneath it is tarnished; there are secrets and there are lies and the real truth is that their perfect world is beginning to crumble..

I am so enjoying this series; the characters are relatable and sensitively written... this instalment is told from both protagonists points of view and provides an insight into the truths behind the evasions and deceit... these two seem to be soulmates but even true love is at risk when trust has gone...

This author is a great story teller, she writes books that have fascinating themes and storylines; this series does not shy away from challenging topics the characters have dealt with loss, bullying and alienation and this story continues in the same vain.... I am enamoured with all the characters and their close friendships and look forward to seeing where fate, and their creator takes them...I received an advanced copy of this book from the author

Wicked, Wicked, Wicked...

Wicked Bay and it's lies. At some point the truth had to come out...What a spectacular mess it all is! I have loved Kyle since the beginning. Not only is he sweet but he's also kind, caring, and loyal. He is the glue for the Stone-Prince kids and company. He's the funny, dependable, best friend. He's the loving, happy, helpful one. So this mess, this situation, makes it more brutal than ever. It is deep. The lies and the pain aren't going to be glossed over. And a lot is at stake...

If you thought it was going to be rainbows and unicorns for the Stone-Princes, think again. Lies have a way of being unraveled and truths being told. In a small town...it's worse. Wicked Bay is intense and Wicked Lies will rile you up. Nothing like some lies to test your bonds.

This series is like eating M & M's. You buy the 4lb. bag because its cheaper and you're thrifty like that. You sit down and say just a handful. Hours later you're in a sugar coma with maybe a handful left and funky colored drool running down your face. (No judgement from me.) You've devoured it all and you feel joy, happy, sad, and even remorseful. Because now you can only wait for the next installment...It's okay though. I peeked in the back and it says Wicked Games for this Summer so...it won't be long.

Well I can honestly say I've been hooked by this series & I was definitely looking forward Kyle's story. I wasn't so sure about Laurie, I had concerns she was going to cheat 😳 I should've known that this Author wouldn't have let such a great guy fall for a horrible person 😉

Kyle is funny, he's always ready to crack a joke to lighten everyone's mood. He loves 3 things deeply ... His family, Laurie & Football!!! Something has happened, since we were last in Wicked Bay, that has Kyle terrified that two of those three things may be in jeopardy if he can't put an end to what's going on. And all because he told one stupid, stupid lie to Laurie!!! 🙁

Laurie still feels uncomfortable that Jared & she had shared some texts after her fight with Kyle sometime before. On her part they were 100% innocent & stopped the second she realised that Jared hoped for more than friendship, she just can't seem to tell Kyle. A distance has crept between them, he's hiding something from her & she's terrified what it could be. She catches glimpses of something in eyes sometimes, but he won't open up. Committing to going to the same College seems to scary right now. She's worried she'll come second to Football & then all of the fame he'll garner. The trouble is she isn't interested in Berkeley & Pre-Law like her parents want either!!

With them both trying to protect the other from what are relatively small but uncomfortable untruths & secrets, Kyle & Laurie's relationship is put on the line!!! Both of their families are also put through some tests too, especially the Stone-Prince's!!!

I loved this book, it was tense & uncomfortable reading at times but in a good way 👍 I was shocked, at times, by Kyle's attitude but I'm so glad he tamed the beast 😀 We got to learn so much more about Laurie, I really felt for her 🙁

Do yourself a favour & 1 click this baby 💙💖 It's SO worth it!!!

La recensione di Paola sul blog
https://www.leggereromanticamente.com...

Book 3 brings us to Kyle and his gf Laurie. I enjoyed reading this book though it is a young Love contemporary story. We are reunited with the stone and prince family. Kyle is a young man who is the jokester, the life of the party. There are more secrets that come to haunt and it's all about Kyle. He is having a hard time with its this secret which may break his family.

Kyle’s story. Kyle is a joking, goof ball, good friend kind of guy. You can’t help but love him. But Kyle has many layers. He jokes to hide what he’s feeling, or goofs around so no one knows something is bothering him. He’s so good at it, that those closest to him...including family and his girlfriend...see it. But a person can only do that for so long. Relationships start to suffer. Kyle starts to suffer. This is Kyle’s story, and we learn who Kyle really is and what he’s hiding.

This one was narrated by Kathryn Lynhurst & Petey Jambalaya, who were incredible narrating this story!!! I listened to this book in like 12 hours. I was totally engrossed. That’s what happens when you take a GREAT author like L.A. Cotton and 2 incredible narrators. You get sucked into the story and become part of it. I’m really sad that it look as though Lianne decided against finishing the series on audible. Because although I bought the kindle I bought the audible too, because I love listening to it!!! Either way it’s an addictive series and I will be continuing on!!! I highly recommend you give it a try!!

From reading the first two books and really getting into the heads of Rick and Lo, I had to pause a beat to wrap my head around this being Kyle and Laurie’s story. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just that I was so used to Rick and Lo, that now being in the head of Kyle and Laurie took a minute to get used to. But once I adjusted, all was good.
I’ve wanted to know more about Kyle from the beginning. He’s the joker of the pack, always there with a smirk and a wise-crack. But I wanted a more in-depth look at him and what made him tick. There had to be more to him than just being a Stone-Prince. More than meets the eye. And luckily, there is.

Kyle has his issues, but he’s not trying to be deceitful to spite those that love him. He’s a good guy with a skeleton in his closet. We all have those at some point, right?! There’s something we hold back and don’t tell someone. Not just for fear of hurting them but for fear of finally opening up that door and seeing what lies behind it.

I was excited to see where Kyle’s story would go and what lay beyond the drama, headaches and heartaches. Honestly, I think it was the perfect story. Sure, there’s stuff that gets a bit messed up, people pushed to their limits, emotions going haywire. But that’s all part and parcel of a) being a teenager and b) being a Stone-Prince. None of them have had it easy, just look at Lo and Rick. But Kyle’s drama was different to theirs. There were truths that should have been told sooner, lies that should never have been told in the first place and a whole lot more than he bargained for.
With his relationship with Laurie at stake, could Kyle fix things before they got too out of control? Could he do the right thing before breaking his girl’s heart? Was the bond they had strong enough to withstand all that life had to throw at it?
Wicked Lies was such an emotional roller coaster. One minute you were at the highest point, only to have the ground come racing towards you faster than you expected. The story twisted and turned, taking my feelings along with it for good measure. But I didn’t mind one bit. Why? Because for a book to be good, in my personal opinion, you have to have a good understanding of the character’s inner turmoil; you have to feel as though you are the one in their shoes. There has to be highs and lows, things that tug at your heartstrings and make you really feel for what the characters are going through. And Wicked Lies has all of those things and more.

Lianne’s writing always sucks me in and when it spits me out, I am always dying for more. She plays with my emotions and keeps me coming back time and again.
I loved her Chastity Falls series and I didn’t think anything could top it. But Wicked Bay just might. Both series are in strong contention for first place, but I think my heart has been stolen away by the characters and their drama in Wicked Bay.
I’m dying for the next book to be in my greedy paws and I can’t wait to see what Lianne has in store for her readers. I’m on tenterhooks and I don’t think I’m the only one!

I don't think I will ever get sick of the way Lianne Cotton writes a book!

The way she weaves a tale has me enthralled throughout the first page to the last!

I adored Maverick and Lo so it took me a couple beats to adjust to Kyle and Laurie and their story but thankfully, in true LA Cotton style, we had a tonne of Rick and Lo throughout because I mean seriously - what would Wicked Bay be without those two?!

Kyle was such a mystery to me throughout the first two books...

I adored him and his banter with Rick and Lo but there was always just something about him, something we were only able to get glimpses of before but definately something deeper, like another layer to him that he didn't want anyone to know about.

He was always the larrikin, the one to break then tension with a quick one-liner or joke so it was so awesome to be able to sink our teeth into a bit more substance from him in this book!

He definately did not disappoint!

His inner turmoil was so emotional and refreshing as we got further and further into what made Kyle always feel like he needed to keep up the joker façade.

Happy to let others think what you see is what you get he had so much more depth to him than anyone, except Lo and Rick, gave him credit for.

He was steeped in such a sense of loyalty that the way he was happy to sacrifice his own happiness for the people he loved the most was almost tragic.

And one of those he loved the most was Laurie!

Gah - I absolutely loved the way he loved her and vice versa!

She was the serious to his joking...they were such a perfect blend together in a way that was written so well!

I was totally captivated by the strength of their feelings for each other! Their connection was palpable and jumped off the pages the further into the story you got.

I'm finding it hard to find the words for this one...it's like, we knew Kyle and Laurie's book was coming so that was no surprise but everything about this book as the story unfolded was surprising.

I loved every second of it!

It was so different to the first two books in this series and yet written in the same fluid, flawless style that only Lianne Cotton has.

There were up's and downs and twists and turns and the gamut of emotions this book brought out was perfect!

Once again Lianne Cotton has proven why she is one of my go-to authors for a new read or a re-read!

She had me with Chastity Falls and she had me with Lucky Penny...she pretty much had me with everything she has written and I couldn't be happier!

If you haven't thrown yourself head first into Wicked Bay then you are missing out!

Another awesome addition to an already awesome series!

"Pretty perfect" !

.... that's the Stone/Prince life... isn't it? However, yet again there are secrets lying in wait to disrupt this family and bring love and trust into question. Kyle is hiding something and Laurie is scared that it spells the end of their relationship, something her mum is only to keen to help along. But Laurie also has her secrets - which secret will tear them apart? Can there be a way back?

As with all the Wicked Bay series books, I loved this story... catching up with the characters again and the family dramas that come with being a Stone-Prince !

The intrigue grabbed me right from the start.. I couldn't wait to find out what the story was here between Laurie and Kyle, as I already loved the relationship they had and Kyle just draws you in with his fun-loving, easy charm, but it masked his true feelings a lot of the time and it was good to see the softer unsure side of Kyle as well.

We find out quite early on what Kyle's secret is but I liked that.. I like that the story is more about how Kyle deals with it, not the angst of finding out what the secret is.

The developing relationship between Maverick and Kyle is great fun to watch... I love that they 'get' each other and actually bring out the best.. (or worst lol) of each other!

Maverick and Lo continue their story and I look forward to more from them.

There are some new faces... Kiera is ballsy and I like her a lot.. I'm hoping to see more of her in future stories.

and...I still need to know Macey's story !!

Another fantastic read from L.A. Cotton that will keep you turning the pages until you finish !!

recensione "a cura del blog Libri magnetici" by Meghan

Quattro petali e mezzo.
