When raiders steal Corrin and the other village women away from their homes, the future looks grim.

None of them expect an ancient race of warriors called the Orki to murder the raiders and take the women for their own.

Only Corrin would have the poor fortune to be kidnapped twice in one day.

Now, the leader of the brutish aliens has chosen her to be his ‘redress’, whatever that means.

With Corrin’s cursed luck, it can’t be anything good.

She should be angry. She should be scared. Instead, what Corrin starts to feel for the Orki is something else entirely.

Something dangerous and forbidden.

Could this infuriating male be the thing that finally changes Corrin’s luck for the better?

Isoellen is just your average, Gen-X'er who drinks too much coffee. Her first romance story was written in 1977 at 8 years old after seeing the movie Star Wars. She knew even then that a rogue on the wrong side of the law was a better mate than the boy on the hero’s journey.
The worlds she creates are violent and sensual, but her characters always find beauty in the decay and romance with intimacy. True love and happily ever after’s are guaranteed.
She is currently working on the 4th book in the 12 Sectors Series, Redeeming Her Alpha.

This is a fantasy-monster-omegaverse romace set in a poat-apocalyptic world. It's erotic and has numorous actions detailed. Orki's are not attractive but don't let that put you off, Isoellen has put a facinating face of the characters that easily pulls you in and makes you like the characters. I found this book interesting. This is the first character change in the Omegaverse world which stayed original to it's genre but I found it different.

Corrin has no luck, it means ill-luck keeps following her around. She loves her Nanny more than anyone in the world but even her Nanny stops her from following around because Corrin's ill-luck might ruin Nanny's work. Corrin's only solution is to find a husband so he might give his luck to her but her suitors are old. Getting kidnapped twice in a day and blaming on her ill-fate Corrin finds herself dragged away from home by strange creatures. Her kidnapper a huge Orki warrior who is bossy and demanding, also spanks her when she misbehaves.

The language barrier was confusing and the imaginative world was complicated but have patience because the end explains it all. I think the story can be out done, it has potential. I would recommend this book to Omegaverse readers.

3.75 smuttastic stars 🌟

This is going to be a book those who like monster boyfriends, especially orcs, will want to read.

description
*Art by Luis Royo

Okay, this pic doesn't depict the MMC very well, at all, but it does give the monster paired with a pretty lady vibe that's in this book. This pic by Luis Royo probably depicts the pairing the best, but I'm so afraid if I post it Goodreads will take it down because it's scandalous. So here it is under a spoiler:

Not explicit at all. Merely suggestive 😉

Isoellen's trademark themes of a fairytalesque romance, with excellent world-building is intermixed with the You Sexy Beast trope. In this story, the sexy beast is an Orki. Well done job by the author by making this hulk of a beast come across as appealing. The sex and foreplay scenes were smokin' and I felt the need to fan myself a couple of times.

The Omegaverse element in this book is subtle. There *is* stuff like a heat, slick, and knotting, but it's subtle. The words Omega and Alpha are never used, which I liked. I don't consider this a dark Omegaverse book, but with that said there is kidnapping and dubcon. The logical side of my brain had to shut off to enjoy this book. Poor Corrin is forced into a situation and is basically given no option but to submit.

So, if you like sexy monster beasts, fairytale love stories, and Omegaverse, I say give this one a go. It's in KU :)

Trigger Warnings:
Safety:
Cliffhanger: No, this is a standalone that ends with a HEA
Wordcount: 44,000+. This is on the shorter side of a full length novel, but this story felt complete.

*I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review :)

As others have said, this doesn't truly fit into one genre or category, instead it's a delightful blend of so many things, the best I can do is describe it as speculative fiction. Written very much with a fairy tale feel, it also paralleled fantasy/historical romance, along with elements taken from both SFR and omegaverse.

There is a lot of humour in the story, Corrin had a very droll inner monologue and it lent a delightfully warm air to the tale. I could hear her Nanny uttering those pearls of wisdom, whilst nodding sagely and clucking like a mother hen. These were by parts both incredibly heartwarming and yet also poignant, touching and yet funny. Though the constant reminding that the only luck Corrin had was bad luck did, at times, make it hard to like her relatives. It was definitely a self-fulfilling prophecy!

Descriptions of the main characters are developed gradually over the course of the story and it is apparent, from a sentence quite late in the book, that it was a deliberate ploy. One designed to slowly open our eyes to Urku-ri, his brethren and their world, just as Corrin's eyes were opened to the possibilities his "ownership" offered. In fact she underwent significant character growth, though I loved that she never lost her spark, the fire in her belly nor her stubborn streak.

Having spent all her life in a backwater village, something akin to an Amish village, and despite supposed education about the wider world, Corrin was very sheltered and naive. She had never experienced what the cities offered, only understanding technology as vague theoretical concepts. The world building was both fleshed out and bare bones, however this is entirely because we view everything through Corrin's eyes, and she doesn't HAVE the answers, doesn't know the information to share with us. The author knew well when to paint in that detail and when to hold back, reflecting Corrin's ignorance of the wider world.

Finally, hats off to the author for how she took a potentially ugly beast of a male and, through the eyes of Corrin, made him attractive. Even as I read her description and built a mental picture that should have repelled I instead found that the emotions and thoughts of Corrin gave me a massively positive impression of Urku-ri. And my word does she treat us to some scorching hot and erotic consensual sex scenes.

Finding Her Luck is a wonderful and unusual story, well written and entertaining.

4.5 Stars!!

I loved this Orc tale. It's definitely the best one I've read in the genre so far. This was one of those books that I was enjoying so much I kept nervously looking down at my status bar as it inched to the end. I didn't want it to end, I wanted more!!

Orcs are these unfeeling brutish beasts. Punishing those who break their rules with no mercy. Yet they reverently take care of their women.

Urku-ri was the biggest, darkest, most dangerous and scarred of them all. Yet with Corrin he is loving and gentle, but firm. She is his prize, his greatest blessing and he showers her with attention and love. He protects her with his life and meets each and every need. God, he melted my freakin' heart.

Corrin has always been cursed and slightly shunned. Even in a big family she has been lonely. When Urku-ri saves her/kidnaps her from the raiders who first stole her, she doesn't know what to expect from the quiet burly Orki. Yet as he takes care of her, feeding her, washing her, brushing her hair, massaging her sore muscles she slowly opens up to him and realizes for the first time someone is cherishing her and putting her first. And she laps that right up.

This was a great omegaverse. I loved this understated take on it. There was never any talk of omegas or alphas, heats or ruts. Though Urku-ri was definitely an alpha and Corrin went into a heat. She just didn't know that's what it was, she just felt overcome with wanting him after all his attention. It was just how things were. The slow burn and build up was smoking hot, their connection on a genetic level.

This was a beautiful love story between a monster and a woman. The old adage applies; don't judge a book by it's cover. This book especially reaches out to those who have felt overlooked or never really seen. Who knows there might be a special Orki out there for you too, lol.

My Review

This was actually fascinating and I’m ever so intrigued with the whole concept and world set-up here it’s also very imaginative.
It’s a relatively short read and fits into numerous genres, part fantasy, monster romance, omegaverse and also incredibly erotic this one was difficult to classify.
It’s set on the planet Dorcus and is told from the female human Corrin’s POV

Corrin supposedly suffers from bad luck and it’s this she blames when she’s taken captive by raiders.
These same abductors have also broken a peace treaty with the Orki by crossing their land and a price must be paid in blood for this, now Corrine finds herself with a new kidnapper a huge Orki warrior named Urku-ri that delivers spankings tells her to mind only him and is generally bossy and alpha but is equally protective humorous and devoted, what’s a girl to do.

Though not an incredibly complicated or angsty story I enjoyed it all the same, it was highly imaginative very erotic and was something very different from what’s out there currently.
The origins of the Orki and their warg nestmates was fascinating especially when I leaned the whole extent of just where they had come from.
This one was oh so different and if you're looking for some hot monster omegaverse with some unique ideas this one ticks those boxes for sure.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of finding her luck.

To be honest, I would read anything nowadays just to get my groove back (and to escape from the sucky reality).

This short novella, felt like a fever dream. And an orc porn. Something that somehow getting some good limelights nowadays (and I am quite excited for our perverted book community). As for this book, it was okay. I like Isoellen's writings before so this one was right up there. However, there were parts where it dragged especially in the beginning. That and the language barrier-ish made me lost my interests here and there.

Huge fan of this author, so was surprised when I struggled to like this book. Fairy tale setting where heroine is taken by orc-like Hero. He's huge, strong and she's overwhelmed by him. But I found the language and cultural gaps awkwardly Told. I disliked the overuse of her being unlucky, please stop Telling the story. I thought her 'fuzzy' thoughts made the pacing uneven. 3 stars for great world building and 1 for his instant commitment. Not likely to re-read this book.

Finding Her Luck: An Orki War Bride Tale is the latest release from Isoellen and unfortunately it was a miss for me. I found the whole thing one big mess. It's very short but took me three days to read because I had a hard time staying with it. I actually have no idea what to even call this book because Romance it is not. Corrin and other females are kidnapped by Raiders, they are rescued Orki's who then take the woman as their own. Corrin was ok, I actually found her annoying and the whole Luck aspect was ridiculous to me. Most of the story was them traveling and her Orki telling her to mind herself. He grooms her, feeds her and makes her drink some milky substances that made me want to puke when were told what it it. Most of their interactions are a series of grunts and short sentences. I also don't see how a human is going to live in a cave not being able to interact with others and living with Nestmates? Anyway while this one didn't work I do love this author. Choosing Her Alpha and Her Broken Alpha were both 5 star reads for me so I know she is an awesome writer. Unfortunately this book doesn't show it, but I will continue to read whatever she writes.

One booksite categorizes this book as an Omegaverse read. I agree, it is. And it is Fantasy, and Paranormal and, to me, it is overwhelmingly a Fairy Tale. Not one we would recognize from past fairy tales; it’s not a re-telling. It is an original, new, Adult Fairy Tale. And so good! The world-building on planet Dorcus is remarkable. It becomes more astonishing as the tale proceeds and is downright startling as we finally learn how Dorcus and its inhabitants came to be! The humans we encounter there seem typical. They are mostly farmers and fishers, some good, some bad. Others are villains we are familiar with in many tales. Corrin, the female protagonist, ignites our sympathies. She doesn’t have the life she wants. She believes her life is controlled by “bad luck.” The “Original” inhabitants that Isoellen describes are strange at first. They look strange and act strangely. They are intimidating but, gosh-darn, if we don’t come to love them.

This author is talented on multiple levels. One of her many gifts include podcasting, where she entertains listeners with her “Grown-up Story Time.” I only mention this because I connected so well with Finding Her Luck and, in my head, it took me way back to my childhood, when I hid under the covers at night reading (by the beam of the flashlight I’d “borrowed” from my dad), enjoying my own private storytime with such fantasies as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and many others. I loved Fantasy and Fairy Tales, and I still do. Of course, the other point in this is that Isoellen writes for grown-ups. I found myself really savoring the sizzling heat in Finding Her Luck. The next time I read it, I think I’ll crawl into bed with my flashlight and read it properly! If the Grimms had written “grown-up” fairy tales, I think Isoellen might have been their inheritor. Five stars.

This book brings us an alien-monster H and a spirited human h who slowly gives in to his sexual and psychological seduction to become a tranquil, submissive mate.
So, yes it can be termed an omegaverse tale.

The end does justify the means. That is the motto of this book.
And this is wrong on so many levels.

The writing was lost on me. Those short infantile sentences, sometimes consisting of one or two words. Tiring to read with every point making a break in the reading flow. I had to go back and reread several instances because there was suddenly a jump in the story. So many alien words, constantly repeated, even the female lead was frustrated, and lacked a translation.

The dynamic between the two main characters was also tiring. If the power is not balanced or played back and forth at least a little bit instead only one sided it gets really frustrating to read and I lost my interest several times. What is the point of resisting in the first place then, when there is no power exchange in any way? Had to force myself to keep reading.

As if you don’t realise when your body changes and that you are getting conditioned and drugged.
Our female lead didn’t appear as such a simpleton in the beginning of the book.
Halfway into the book I started scrolling...because the author set us on a “defying the alien course”, for no real reason, which was a loosing battle to begin with. The female lead protested in her mind, but did not really show any finesse or creativity in her rebellion. It was simply a mute point.
I didn’t find any eroticism in this book, there is none to be found when the woman is drugged and changed against her will and knowledge on a cellular level. The plot was pretty silly, the little there is. The reasonings and her conclusions in the end absolutely idiotic. Let’s simply forgive everything that is done to her, because consent doesn’t matter, to have a say and to be able to choose is irrelevant when the outcome can be twisted into being lucky. The concept of him compromising in her direction doesn’t exist.
There is not even any romance involved, when your body and mind is conditioned through force and drugs. She simply accepted her forced condition and told herself she is lucky. Comparing apples with peaches.
It makes no sense.

A Subtle OmegaVerse

I have a feeling I'm going to be the odd one out here and say...

E H.

This work had some interesting ideas, but it was kind of a hot mess. It felt unfocused and all over the place—especially the heroine who could not seem to find a stable personality—and something about the explanations all rubbed me the wrong way. Very deus ex machina, like Trek episodes that wrote themselves into a corner. On the surface it was cool, but if I thought about it at any deeper level, all it raised were a lot more questions about how it would even make sense.

I was also a bit shocked to find a furry porn trope used as a Thing in this. Because, uh, that isn't how cervixes work, my dudes.

Then add the formatting/editing errors into all of this—it's really poorly formatted with weird breaks everywhere—and I really didn't enjoy it all that much.

I did like the idea of a more subtle OV, though. Standard OV can feel a lot like reels made of anime series where the two mains cry each other's name for minutes on end to emphasize how laughably many times it came up, except with Alpha and Omega. Like, we totally all know we're in the OV without having to see one or both words at least once on every page. We won't forget. I promise. So to see OV tropes here without a single A or O word? That was nice.

I have to be honest, the cover can be quite an initial put off to many and yours truly included. As the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover and Isoellen proved in spades on why she has become one of the best authors on the omegaverse trope.

This book is sinfully sexy and once I delved into the story, I forget what Urku-ri (the H) looks like. In "Finding Her Luck", Isoellen borrowed elements from the Omegaverse. We do have knotting, the slick, nesting and even heat. However never once were the words Omega and Alpha used, yes there's a hint of dubcon but mostly the sex scenes are scorching hot and consensual.

I never want to leave this universe and I wish Isoellen would write faster as I want more books from her.

It's my first time reading this type of 'monster' romance and the cover intrigued me.
As a first taste I liked it, but I had a few issues with it.
There was not enough world building. I wanted to know more both about the 'human' world and the 'orki' world. It's written in 3rd person POV but we only get the perspective of Corrin. This means that we see the Orki through her eyes only, and this includes the language barrier too.
It focused on sex too much. Whether Corrin was watching/hearing others having sex, or she was having sex with her Orki, everything was just sex.
One other thing would be the language for sex. It was a little too euphemistic.

Well.....that was...interesting. There was a lot going on here but also nothing necessarily going on. And I'm not sure if I was slightly disturbed by this story or fascinated with the imagination of it. This is not really anything I've ever read before but it really was a well written story.

Not entirely sure how I felt about the nest lol but Isoellen is a very good writer and is able to weave an exceptionally intriguing tale of love and acceptance. If you are looking for something outside the box then give this a try!

Luckless Corrin is kidnapped twice: the first time by the bad guys; the second by the, err, "good guy" in the form of an Orc called Urku-ri. The rest of the book details their growing Alpha & Omega relationship (though it's never called that) and the adventures they experience on the dangerous journey to his home.

If you like Omegaverse, but find some too harsh, you may enjoy this. Although the H kidnaps and spanks the h, he doesn't harm or rape her. It's also clear that he cares deeply for her; she truly is the center of his world; and he wants what's best for her.

That said, while I've enjoyed this author's previous books, this one never came together for me for three reasons. First, while I do enjoy Isoellen's fairy tale take on Omegaverse, the fairy tale prose -- short declarative sentences and repetition -- didn't vary enough over the course of an entire book (one reason why fairy tales are short). In addition, the world-building was often confusing and unnecessarily complex at the end. (And I would have liked more details about the author's most fascinating intervention: the Orcs have no word for or understanding of the social groups that humans live in.) Finally and most importantly, the independent fisherwoman Corrin was a far more interesting character at the beginning than she is in the end, when she completely subsumes her own identity to Urku-ri's. Even in Omegaverse, I like my h's to show more initiative. Note: The book is entirely told from Corrin's POV so we don't get much access to his thoughts and feelings.

3 stars. I might have rated this more highly, but the ending was very abrupt: just as the H and h were finally communicating, the book stops.

This book is a combination of road romance and cabin romance seen through tunnel vision. It focuses intently on the lead couple--really, other than a wolflike warg, every other character is literally in the background--and that's both a strength and a weakness. I loved the voice of the heroine Corrin--the book is told from her POV--and the intensity of her hero Urku-ri and his utter devotion to her balanced the fact that she is, in essence, a war prize, taken as spoils of war and broken treaties.

But that focus is also a bit of a drawback, as I really wanted to know more about this world, its treaties and rules, its peoples. I felt like this tunnel-focus on each other--really, Corrin isn't even supposed to *look* at anyone else--made it hard to understand what was happening in this world. Granted, we know what Corrin knows since the book is told from her POV, and remember that she isn't even supposed to look at anyone else? But there's a hint at the end of the book that this can change a bit, but not seeing that happen was a detriment to me.

I don't know if Isoellen intends to write more stories in this world. I hope she does, as I'd love to see the aspects I felt were missing addressed in future books. But this blending of road and cabin romance, with smatterings of omegaverse and monster romance thrown in, made for a winning combination.

Okay.

So I was absolutely into this book at first. Wonderful world building and really interesting premise and fascinating world building. But then it just quickly shifted and then all of a sudden. BOOM THEY ARE AT HOME and a robot is telling her about his whole world and the cute lil alien road trip is over.

No epilogue. No domestic bliss. Nothing. I thought maybe the next book was a continuation, but no. It's focused on a whole new couple. What even. I finished the book and just desperately wanted more.

**Good luck is when opportunity meets preparation, while bad luck is when lack of preparation meets reality. -Eliyahu Goldratt **

As much as I liked the beginning and middle of the story, the ending kind of disappointed me. The revelation at the end was unnecessary, in my opinion. It wasn't bad per say, but it strangely felt like it was from another storyline (not that it is what it is). The ending plot could have been the main plot to another story by itself. It was just out of nowhere, and I didn't truly understand why it was such a big deal.

I liked the Orki culture, even if I felt like it was really controlling, where Corrin literally couldn't look or interact platonically with anyone other than Urku-ri. As much as I understand the reason WHY, and what it meant to only *see* one, this culture felt a bit forced on the heroine. She would get spanked if she looked at others and sometimes it didn't really feel all that deserved.

Something that I liked about Urku-ri's and Corrin's relationship was the consent. Everything intimate that they did wasn't dubious or forced. So props to that. The only thing that really bugged me was the mixture that she had to drink every night. It is linked to the revelation at the end, and THAT didn't sit well with me.

There wasn't much action in this book. It mostly focused on Urku-ri and Corrin's relationship. So if you are looking for a deep mystery/full of action plot, then you might be a little bit disappointed. Overall, it was a good read and if certain things irked me throughout, I would still recommend it to lovers of the genre.

MORE.

I sincerely need more in this world! I love it when authors mix sci-fi and fantasy, and this book does it perfectly! Humans co-exist on this planet, along with a species called orki, who are, yes MA’AM, space orcs! LOVE ME SOME ORCS. A girl from what essentially boils down to an Amish village from space believes she is cursed, and her getting abducted and then abducted *again* seems to support this idea. But the second kidnapper, a big ol’ orki, decides to keep her, and she slowly comes to realize that maybe her luck has finally changed for the better. This has excellent world building, interesting characters and cultures, and smutty smut smut. Loved it. Gonna read it again!

Not feeling this one...

Not enough world building. I still don’t fully understand what happened. There was basically no interaction between the heroine and secondary characters for the majority of the book. The ending was too abrupt. The book literally just ended after they talked to some kind of machine? The only thing I could think of when I read that was “my logic is undeniable!“😆😆😆
There were soo many holes and it felt completely unfinished.

The sex was definitely hot....no problems there😉

Fun and adventurous

What I loved about this book is what I always love about this authors books and what I hated, I always hate.

I loved the adventure of it and the blatant battle for personal autonomy when she gets kidnapped. The cute "relationship" moments are also very sweet. The book is also well written so you feel the slip of emotions and the evolution involved. So well done!

I HATE that there's never any kind of power exchange. She has to give up everything, she has to mentally accept her new position and all the restrictions and rules put on her, and she has to accept being drugged and transformed and kept almost as a pet instead of an actual mate. I HATE that. He gives up nothing, accepts nothing, just mokds her into what he wants, literally.

Overall, I stop and start the book because I enjoy reading it and then I get angry and has to put it down. Then I pick it up because I need to know what happens, then I get angry and put it down.

Overall, I enjoyed it and will definitely go on to the next.

This epic romance starts a bit questionable, and then the plot twist had me gasping in shock! Them the ending was terrific! Holy moly!

While I enjoy trash romance this is something else. I am not sure exactly what genre this is as it skirts on multiples and never quite succeeds with any of them. There isn’t enough information. So you kind of are as lost as the ignorant IGNORANT main character.
