‘The Write Way to Die’ is a fast-paced and intriguing blackly comic tale of murder in the creative quarter of a seaside town where the bodies are mounting up amongst the art installations. When Amy joins a writing group, it’s murder. On paper, at least, as the eclectic members pen their perfect killings. The planner, the housewife, the pantser and the classicist all contribute their stories, some darkly comic, others simply gruesome. Then there’s Robert, who wants to write a killer worthy of a nickname. Enter The Exhibitionist, the stuff of nightmares, and the darkest of all.
I bought "The Write Way to Die" by Jo Bavington-Jones from a work colleague who knew Jo. He was talking about her work and came back from his lunch break with a copy for me so naturally I bought it.
The book is set in my local town so was great to hear how my town was described and being able to recognise places. Its a crime book where a load of writers write the best murder.
In the book Jo has to write several murder stories in different style of writing each time. I loved how she made each write seem so different which takes real skill.
It book has a great twist at the end and I loved going on it's journey. Plus this is the first book I have read that included covid and lockdown.
This is the best book I have read this month. Jo wrote this during the covid lockdown so some bits you can relate to, it also makes you remember what it was like at the time. I love this writing style and could not put the book down as it was so interesting. Some bits are actually true so it makes for really interesting reading. I loved this and recommend you read it now!
Brilliant from beginning to end. I won't spoil it for those who haven't read it - I can definitely recommend it - but this is a really cleverly written book, set in Folkestone, about a Writing Group in lockdown. The writing they are tasked to do reveals a lot about them all, not just their newest member! A real rollercoaster of a read.
I just finished reading "The Write Way to Die" by Jo Bavington-Jones, and I loved it. This book is equal parts twisted and hilarious, a unique blend that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I was fascinated by how the different characters’ minds worked as writers, each bringing their own brand of darkness and humor to the table. The story's progression is brilliant, with every turn skillfully plotted to keep you in suspense. And then, when you think you've got it all figured out, the ending hits you like a ton of bricks. Wow. Just. Wow. I did not see that ending coming. Bavington-Jones has a true talent for weaving together complex characters, witty dialogue, and a plot that's both intriguing and unpredictable. If you're looking for a read that will keep the pages turning while laughing and gasping in equal measure, then "The Write Way to Die" is the book for you. I can’t wait to start reading the next book in the series!
A very clever and humorous book set in my hometown of Folkestone. Murder amongst the artworks. Made me laugh out loud at times, while also having a shudder at other times. Had to remind myself several times that the same author has written all the stories in the book, as the voices are so different. Definitely looking forward to any future work by this author.
Absolutely loved this book. Being from Folkestone definitely enhanced the book for me as I could picture exactly the scenes laid out. I could relate to the characters and found that they were written so well that they could be people I knew. I anticipated each story and found myself engrossed. Well done!
Really enjoyed this! Always favour a book set in a familiar place, and nice to read local authors’ works. A clever concept and a dark twist. Although I could see it coming well in advance, it didn’t spoil the story. Jo does a great job of adapting her writing to write as different characters.
Great book by a local author. Was super cool to read a narrative with a Folkestone backdrop. Very twisted & dark in places and had all the makings of an excellent crime novel! Nice :)
This book is set in the town that I live! Which is exciting ☺️. It has an autobiographical vibe which details the story of a woman who joins a local writing club only to get caught up in a murderous plot of her own. The thing I lenjoyed best were the stories within the story. They added a good pace to the novel and acted as short stories of their own- bonus
This book is brilliant, I couldn’t put it down and finished in 3 days. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I was just disappointed when I finished it.
Amy has just left her job in order to devote her time to being a ‘proper writer’. To help her on her way she joins a writing group at the local Wetherspoons, whose first task is to write a short story about the perfect murder, but one member seems to enjoy the job a bit too much!
The story takes place in my hometown of Folkestone during the first Covid lockdown, so not only was it lovely to read about a location I know so well, but was also a good reminder of all the heartbreaking and heartwarming moments of that time.
Hats off to Jo for not only writing a fun and engaging murder mystery but also including so many great short stories within the book!
