Step loves stepping up and down the musical staff, but his world is turned upside down when he meets an adventurous character who isn't afraid of a little risk. Together, they discover that the best music has a little of Step AND Skip!
Wonderful resource for the pre-school and early primary music class. With a simple story and whimsical pictures, Ms. Weber pens a story that will help younger learners understand the basics of note movement. Would have loved to have a copy to read to my children when they were young.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is such a cute story that combines my two loves in life. As a music teacher, it was super exciting to delve into When Step Met Skip and it's honestly a great introduction for younger elementary students. It pairs simple music theory with adorable illustrations and a charming story that's sure to make your students smile. Personally, I do wish it went a bit more int the theory aspect but regardless it's a great introduction and I'll definitely be using it my classroom come September!
huge thank you to the author for an e-arc and allowing me to be on the launch team. all thoughts/opinions are 100% my own
Another wonderful book from Vicky Weber. I get so excited every time she comes up with a new book, and the reason is simple. She manages to teach music concepts in such an engaging way with great illustrations, and a simple story line. I know my students will love this book just as much as her other books I've introduced to them. Teaching music theory to young students requires a great deal of thought, so as to get students learning in a fun way. This book does that well.
This book would be a perfect way to explain to early elementary students the notes on the staff! I love this book for it’s cute animations and it’s humanization of notes, which really helps kids understand that music can change shape and directions, just like you or I.
This book is a must have for elementary music teachers and anyone teaching young musicians how to read music. The illustrations are perfect, and students will be able to understand the concepts that are presented!
Vicky Weber has done it again! My kids always struggle with the concept of skips and steps and this book will be a great way to help them visualize it. I can’t wait to share it with my kids. Thank you for including me in your book launch!
2nd of Vicky Weber’s Books that I’ve used in school. Really wonderful book that the kids love and it really helps them grasp musical concepts. So many opportunities to compose and improvise in the class throughout the book. Love it!
It’s been a long time since my music classes but I know we didn’t have books like this! A fun, sweet story about moving up and down the staff in harmony. Perfect for music teachers.
A great way to visualize basic intervals and compare the differences in between them. I also like that if I wanted to I could use an instrument along with the book to demonstrate the aural difference between the intervals and how they sound together.
Another great selection/purchase by my public library! I like how the author incorporated music within the book and enjoyed its sweet ending. The books ends with this: "Together, Step and Skip made beautiful music--both by doing what they love." Two thumbs up for this book!
