Beta Donnell Ursus Arctos devotes his life to protecting his leader and defending every bear in his clan. Some call him overprotective, but Donnell prioritizes safety. When he’s not working, Donnell has simple hobbies that others consider boring. Although Donnell is surrounded by family, wealth, and prestige, the bear shifter pines for Fate to pair him with the other half of his soul.
For Joshua Brenton, little is going right. On the same day, Josh loses his job and his run-down apartment. But there is a bright light on the horizon—the annual retreat for mages. As an aqua mage, Josh has been disrespected since birth, but Fate has recently selected new leaders. After sweeping changes are made, Josh is randomly selected to prove his worth in the newly instituted mage testing.
Josh is stunned when he meets the mage rulers and is invited to their home. Upon ringing the doorbell to the mansion, Josh meets Donnell, and they discover that they are mates. Although the pair are instantly drawn to each other, Josh learns he is more than a mage and must unravel a past he’d prefer to forget. It will be up to Josh and Donnell to chart a future while dealing with the surprises they encounter along the way.

Rating: 4.5 stars I really love this series. I think it is my favorite series that I am reading now. Sometimes a series will get old after a while but I’m 24 books in and am still looking forward to each book when it comes out. I really enjoyed re-visiting the Arctos family. I loved Donnell and how he supported his mate Joshua even though he didn’t always agree with his stance. I cannot wait for Owen to get his story. Overall, another wonderful book in the series.
Intricately woven story that is spell-binding, simply beautiful, charming and full of warmth
Lockmage Legacy is the twenty-fourth book in the D’Vaire series and ideally should be read in order.
I never want to leave the 'D’Vaire' Universe. Seriously, Kingley’s books are so addicting I never want them to end!
The story is painted so vividly that I can see the people, places and events in my minds eye. What a hot, sexy, magical story it is! The plot is fast paced and has plenty of heat and drama as well as lots of intrigue to keep those pages turning.
Donnell is protective, honest and devoted - not just to his mate but also his family.
Josh is vibrant, funny and irresistible. I absolutely loved him.
So glad we got to see elementals again; they are so adorable!!
Each time a new mating ceremony happens I say it’s my favourite, until the next one …
Pure Jessamyn Kingley deliciousness. I loved the sensuality shining on every page.

Josh and Donnell sure had a bumpy road! A bear and a Lockmage walk into a house and bam! This was another wonderful story in the D’Vaire world. Highly recommended
Months after taking over as Grand Mage of the Circle of Mages, Lachlan is still waiting on the mage who will represent the water mages. This comes in the form of Joshua Brenton, mate to the bears beta, Donnell Ursus Arctos. Joshua is more than a water mage. He's a hybrid with Warlock blood. And after years of being thought odd and held back as a mage, he only wants to embrace his Warlock roots. Which takes him to D'Vaire. And gives us another lovely mating. And D'Vaire tale.
I love, love, love this series. Awesome. Well written with kick ass characters. I would have to say that this book and the last book Triple Affinity have been my favorite so far in the series.
