The College Quarterback And The Bad Boy United Against Their Wills

My senior year takes an unexpected turn with my mom’s remarriage.
A new stepbrother who hates my guts and a new stepdad who becomes our new coach.
To make things worse he hires my stepbrother Dean as his assistant.

I’m playing on unfamiliar territory.
Dean has a tatted and toned figure, with a dark, intimidating gaze.
I can’t tell if I want to prove myself to him or if I want...something more.

I feel a connection between us I can’t ignore.
I think he’s starting to feel it too.
A big part of me wants to find out, and another part is too scared.

I’ll be laying it all out there if I want the answer and there will be consequences.

Groceries get sacked. QBs get coached in love.

Life always has it's good times and it's bad times. Things seem to be going good when all of a sudden everything changes. Family, school, sports, jobs, where you live, who you love, what you plan for your future, who you want to share it with, and just about anything else you have figured out about life.

You look to the future and miss the things nearby. You study the past for guidance, but it is quiet or does not fit. So do what makes you happy and make those around you happy, and your future will be happy. Do what YOU want and be happy. Just do it!

I don't know how I did it at 4.40am, but I was juggling my phone, my AC remote and my dog and somehow updated this review.

It wasn't a re-read. 😐😄

Oh, well.

I feel like this could have been so, so much better.

This was a very quick read.

I'm giving it 3.5⭐, because I really like the two MC's.

If the story would expand a bit and if the author would add a little more depth, this book would have been wonderful.

🌻Jack is a college football player and very good at it. He's a golden boy, everyone loves him, tall, jock body, blonde, blue eyes.

His mom remarries and his stepdad is his new coach, who brings with him an assistant coach, who is Dean, Jack's stepbrother.

🌼Dean was also a successful football player at this very college, but he had an injury that ended his career. Now he's jobless, single and hates his dad. He's also tall, lean, with plenty, plenty of tattoos.

So you see, given those two, this should have been a great story, right?

They hate each other, okay, but it's so short and without much info that you don't really get where the problem is.

Jack is attracted to Dean and eventually they kiss, the get intimate, they have sex... only for Dean to push Jack away, but there was no major drama or angst, they got together pretty soon and they outed themselves at the last game that the team won.

Publicly.

And that's where the book ended.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice story, only the transitioning into being a couple wasn't done in a way that would make me be really excited for the guys.

Even the exploring part for Dean was very short.

I really liked Dean and Jack.

Where's the epilogue?

This book is REALLY missing some pages.

2.5 🌟

I usually see Van's books at Amazon an they catch my attention but there's much MMM and so so I didn't read any of them. But this one was recommended on an author's newsletter and the blurb sounded nice, so I went for it.

As I said, nice blurb. It promises many tropes I love: enemies to lovers, sports, stepbrothers... The result, however, was far more fast paced than I would like and kind of... Forgettable.

The enemies to loves part was nice enough. We have these two guys, Dean and Jack, who suddenly end being stepbrothers and they don't get along. Dean doesn't like Jack as he sees his old himself on him... And makes him even more aware of his own failure. Jack hates him because... Who likes someone that hates you?

The "to lovers" was fast but not bad. There was hating and some chemistry, and then when they hook up you can't help but enjoy. The romance itself was way too fast. I missed the point that made them love each other... I needed something between the "we are attracted and can have sex" and the "I love you so much I can't go on without you".

The stepbrothers thingy... Could have not happened at all, actually, as it doesn't really add nothing to the story. There's 0 drama around this and doesn't impact the relationship. Dean being Coach was more decisive for them than them being stepbrothers and 10 years apart.

The sports part had more impact into the story, but, again, it was rushed. The change of mind in Jack about playing or not pro football came out of nowhere, suddenly. It felt more like a fit and feeling brokenhearted. I liked the end, though, I just wish the author would have taken a little more time to nurture some aspects of the story (the development of true feeling between our pair and this change of mind of Jack's) to make it smoother.

I can't say I didn't enjoy it. I takes only a couple hours to read it, is short, gast paced and entertaining. But I sustain what I said at first: it's forgettable. The kind of story that's perfect to not thing too much, but whose characters won't stay much in your head and, eventually, you won't even remember.

What sort of far fetched book is this.
We have jack and Dean step brothers by marriage. Dean also happens to be jack's assistant coach, a job that he's very lack luster about.
Jack is all straight laced and goal focused on playing pro, no time for being gay(which I should mention he has kept a secret for this long) and rutting in the sheets.
Anyway fast forward. These two steppies end up banging (actually shared blow jobs) once, and jack falls in love so much so that he decides to quit football that has been his life since before he was born.
Not only does he try to that he also decides to come out and kiss his step brother on national TV.
Have you ever read anything more ridiculous.

My review does not go with the rating, am well aware. The story was straight to the point but short. Maybe if it had been longer then it would have felt more believable. Still a five star for making me laugh at the ridiculousness that is jack and Dean.

Dean and Jack are stepbrother's with and age gap Dean assistant coach to the Paulson college football team and former player is 31 Jack is 22 or 21 a college senior I believe and the star player and captain for the Paulson team theres the usual tension between brothers they didn't grow up together Dean's dad the real zero of this book Coach as he's referred to cheated on Dean's mom and pretty much ruined there family but he got a free pass and got on with life and got a new wife Jack's mom. So animosity galore and Coach was also a loser dad he pretty much made his only sun fell like a failure when he couldn't play football anymore. Jack has some secrets about his sexuality he's closeted and fears coming out to his teammates even his bestfriend on the team his life is basically a mess then he falls for his stepbrother how do you keep that kind of secret. You don't then you relize that your both keeping your desires for each other secret for Dean its a first he's been straight his whole life and Jack isn't read for the secret to come out also coach is and added pressure.

What I liked the easy relationship that Dean and Jack eventually developed after some life interference the exceptence from Jack's teammates.

What I didn't like Coach he was and awful father a bully of a coach and after everything he just easily except's his son's new life not that guy he's way to much of and Alpha hole for that. Other then there being no real resolution with Dean and his Dad over his past behavior this was a good read.

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.

This is a very sweet story about Jack Hall and DeanOwens, stepbrothers who meet when Jack’s mother marries Dean’s father at the end of Jack’s junior year of college. Dean, ten years Jack’s senior, and bitter over the change his life took when his father left his mother to be with his mistress. Angry and resentful about his father’s treatment of his mother and the “perfect” new stepbrother, his caustic style does little to dampen Jack’s attraction to him.

Quarterback and team captain, Jack has managed to keep his sexuality secret from his family and his team until his new found feelings for Dean make him want to live free and tell the world his truth. Dean on the other hand has lived 31 years as a straight man, never really understanding why he was unfulfilled in his romantic relationships. When a night out during a raid trip trigger feelings of protectiveness and jealousy, things seem to fall into place. But now that they have both said it, where can a relationship between a coach and a player who happen to also be stepbrothers really go?

One hundred seventeen pages of family drama, hot scenes, football references, and secrets. This quick read will have you flying through its pages and falling in love with both Jack and Dean. You will empathize and be irritated by Dean’s hesitation with his stepmother and stepbrother.

The attraction was to strong
Jack is an outstanding football player his stepfather is now the coach of their school but with him he brings his son his stepbrother Dean. And he’s got a chip on his shoulder. Jack doesn’t know what Dean has against him but he seems angry at the world and he takes it out on him as the assistant coach working him harder than anybody else on the team.
Dean didn’t wanna take the job that his dad had offered but he had nothing else going for him. He just couldn’t forgive his father for cheating on his mum and treating her so badly. It hurt to watch him so happy with his new wife and her son but he just needed to get this year out the way and then he could move on.
They start as enemies but the attraction is undeniable Dean questions his own sexuality as he’s only ever dated women whereas Jack has been hiding his sexuality from everyone but what will happen now??
I really enjoyed the plot I found their relationship to be quite addictive. The difference in Dean is like night and day and it was nice to finally see him happy after suffering through no fault of his own. he had so much pain nothing went right as it was planned and finally with the help of Jack maybe get past it.

A highly emotional and thought provoking story. Dean Owens is the assistant coach for the Tigers College Football team, Dean has a lot of resentment and is struggling with what is happening in his life going from being the star football player in college to dealing with an injury that has taken him out of the running for the game. He tried working for his friend but when that job finished, his father offers him a job as his assistant training college football on the same college team that he played. Jack Hall is the quarterback and captain of the Tigers football team and he has a crush on Dean, but Dean is also his stepbrother, he has to fight his attraction and get his head back into the game. Until one night after winning their game in Nashville. Dean has always been straight up until he started having feelings for Jack, these two are fighting their attraction but also trying to work out their relationship to each other. It is a heartfelt story where two men are trying to find their place with their emotions and in society. A well written story that will pull on your heart and have you hoping that they work things out before they hurt each other.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review with my honest and fair opinion.

Jack is the quarter back of the college football team. He’s just trying to make it through his senior year of college, but has no idea what to do with his life. He is also being forced to stay in the closet due to gay stereotypes in sports. Jack’s new step father is now the head coach for Jake’s team. He brings his son Dean along for the ride as assistant coach. Dean has one hell of a chip on his shoulder and he is not a fan of Jakes. Little by little, Dean is getting confused by his emotions and his bodies reactions towards Jake. He’s always been straight, why is he suddenly having sexual thoughts about a man?

Getting Sacked is a story about two men on very different paths that entwine in the end. It is very well written and relatable. It’s not just a coming out story, it’s heavily based around having no clue as to what you want to do with your life. There is some steaminess, no cliffhanger and HEA

I quite enjoyed the first part of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t care much for the last part and the ending.

Jack and Dean are step brothers who hate each other at first sight. There’s an age gap of 10 years, and the animosity from Dean’s part comes from the fact that Jack reminds him of himself.

The tension between them both is really strong and as I said I really liked that first part of the story, getting to know the characters and that invisible wall that separates them. But their pull is too strong and eventually the chemistry wins.

And that’s where for me the story starts going downhill. Jack and Dean together kind of make sense together (although a bit more development of their relationship rather than just sex would have been welcome too), but I didn’t really see where Jack’s decision to leave football altogether came from. And just deciding on the spot that he was going to become a coach just like that was such a silly plot line.

This book has so many personal successes and failures. It takes place in the south during Jack’s senior year of college. He is the captain and quarterback for the Tigers, a golden boy good grades and athletic. His mother remarried and now his stepdad took a job as head coach of the Tigers. Coach was an alumni and football hero during his years at this college. Coach has a son about 30, Dean who was also a quarterback and football player at this college. Unfortunately Dean broke his ankle during senior year and lost his dream of playing pro. Dean is bitter about that and his parents divorce, also how his father treated his mother. Dean is now the assistant coach for his father. Jack and Dean seem to butt heads about the game, but it’s because Dean see’s himself in Jacks shoes and doesn’t want his future crushed like his. It is a wonderful love story and family dynamics.

3.5 stars Dean and Jack made me smile in the way quick reads often do. The Cons - It has a lot of tropes involved but a big deal isn’t really made of any of them. I think the hard part for me was the lost opportunity to distinguish itself in some way. Nobody seems to care that there’s an age gap, that Dean is a coach, or Jack’s stepbrother, but their relationship is a secret for the entirety of the story. The side plot between father and son and the historical animosity there is touched on but feels unresolved. The Pros - The focus is really on the two of them and how they navigate Dean having feelings for a guy for the first time, football, and the future. The football family/brotherhood is great too!

Gotta love football in the south!

Wow, where do I start? There was so much going on for each MC in this book before anything even happened between them. Jack has always been a star quarterback, good student and great friend. But he is hiding a huge secret. Yeah, he is gay and he knows he can't tell even his best friend because he is the star quarterback and Team Captain. Not to mention his new coach is like everyone else and expects him to go pro. Oh, and the new coach? That's his new stepdad. He also has an older stepbrother he has never met until an impromptu dinner before the season starts. This is where he meets Dean and realizes that Dean hates him at first sight. Dean is to old for a new stepmother he doesn't want because no matter what, she will never live up to mom, the woman his dad cheated on then divorced. But his dad did offer him a job as assistant coach, which he really doesn't want either because all the records at the college they are coaching at? Yeah, they were his before an injury took his pro quarterback aspirations from him. The Golden Boy, Coach loves the kid as much as he is disappointed in Dean because he can never get his act completely together. Everything changes between the stepbrothers when Dean is asked to stand in as head coach for the first travel game at Vanderbilt. Dean helps a drunk Jack through the night after the game celebration and they start talking. From there, these two are on a rollercoaster of emotions. Fighting personal demons, each other and for a spot in the championship game. This is a fantastic book that I will read again! Not only is it a great read it is about some fabulous SEC teams! Gotta love it when Bama wins though RTR 😀

This is interesting and entertaining. After Jack's mom and Dean's dad get married, Dean is hired by his dad to coach Jack's football team. Dean is not happy with his father for several reasons, and his attitude spills over into how he feels about Jack. Jack is upbeat, focused and happy. Dean is angry, determined and depressed. All it takes is one night, and everything between Jack and Dean completely changes. Dean suddenly becomes Jack's biggest champion, and Jack becomes Dean's loudest defender. I loved the storyline and characters.

Good writing of the mechanics of the heart
4.5
It's a good story between Dean and Jack. Their story is simple, but I liked the way their journey is written to recognize who they are, the end of denial of either their attraction or their sexual orientation.
Their story is tender, a little hot, complex by the bond of their respective parents, the tensions between Dean and his father, Jack's fears if his team learned of his homosexuality, the pressure he is under in the face of the hopes of others on his career.

Kobo (EPub2 DRM-Free): 9798227758637, 120 pages (despite 4 kindle entries this is the closest publication date and page number... )

Golden boy Jack is quarterback and captain of his college football team. The new Coach has married Jack's mother - and brought his son Dean, a former football star, now fallen, in as assistant coach. They do not get on, each blaming the other at least in part for the separation of their parents... Thrown together the inevitable happens.

(Not as gripping as hockey stories - obviously my fault!)

This is a good story with an enemies to lover, hurt/comfort theme. The book has family dynamics, stepbrother love, a crappy father, southern football, disappointment, animosity, gay awakening, and finding what you really want to do with your life. Dean's transformation from straight to gay was a bit too fast to be truly believable, but it's still a good story.

Absolute Perfection!

This book is incredible! Absolute perfection!!! Dean and Jack!!! They are everything. Starting as enemies, turning to mentor and mentee, then friends/family to lovers! Yes, thank you for the happy ending. I needed a book like this, thst pushes the character to the limits and yet, let’s them be themselves. Incredible. I loved this book, Dean and Jack separately are incredible but together they are explosive and way better!!!

The story is short, easy to read. The story of Jack and Dean ((step)brothers), the story wasn't bad, but I expected more from it, everything is so easily accepted by everyone, which makes it unbelievable, I had hoped for a bit more drama.

For someone who has little interest in sports I totally enjoyed this novella. Step brothers who hate each other become tied together as assistant coach and football team captain, things don't go so well at first. The football bit aside I really enjoyed this story, I'm newish to this author, this is my second of his shorter tales and I like his style, interesting writing.

This was a quick read. Enemies-to-lovers-ish. Stepbrothers. Once they came together it was insta-love and rainbows and roses and life changing. So, that's a little unbelievable and rushed. It kept my interest though and made me want to get back to it asap when I had to work or drive so it's still a winner for me.

I thought that this was a pretty good book. Dean and Jack were great together once things were finally out in the open. I thought that this was a little bit of a slow paced romance with a great HEA. I did enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it and Ms. Van as a really good author.

Giving up someone else’s dream and going for your own.

Mix of coming of age, self realisation and nearly enemies to lovers. You don’t need to know or enjoy American football to enjoy the story. It’s angsty, then sweet, hot and steamy, with a very satisfying HFN
