Jane Mind (the) Game is the second novel of the Jane Blake series. It is a fast-paced mystery full of twists, turns, and suspense, as Jane works to unravel the mysteries surrounding her past. While everyone from the newfound team is looking ahead with hopes for a better future, Jane’s search for Michael Morse is turning into an obsession. As she spirals into it, she loses the trust of her new friends, but even this cannot stop her—not even when Ryan Gray, sweet and smart as always, begins to think she might be going crazy. When she decides to risk everything, Jane finds herself in a life-threatening situation, completely alone, with no backup. As she gets closer and closer to discovering her real parentage, Jane will soon find out that the truth is way more complicated, and dangerous, than she imagined.
Kelly Shade is a mystery writer. Her debut novel Jane Blake: True Sinner is the first book of the Jane Blake series. The idea behind the series came to Kelly years before she started writing it. Initially, she wanted to write one book, but the story in her mind was way too long for just one novel, so she decided a series was necessary.
From a tender age, Kelly has been fervently engaged in storytelling, dabbling in various fiction genres and penning music lyrics with equal passion.
Her knowledge of psychology, human behavior, and criminal psychology has deeply influenced her writing, adding layers of depth and insight to her character development and plot intricacies.
Though she thinks of herself as a citizen of the world, Kelly’s heart belongs to California. She has lived in several countries in Europe, wanting to experience different cultures.
‘Jane Blake – Mind [the] Game’ is the second novel of Kelly Shade’s Jane Blake series. The uncommon story structure encountered in the first book of the series, ‘True Sinner’, is repeated in this continuation. There are plenty of crime-case-of-the-week murders to solve against the background of the continuing story arc, the protagonist’s search for her real family actively hampered by her criminal mastermind grandfather. However, this time, several of the characters encountered in the secondary cases also have a role in the central character’s ongoing quest. Jane Blake, an expert con artist, now working as a consultant with an elite Los Angeles Police Homicide Department, has plenty of opportunities to showcase her unique methods of resolving the murders whilst crossing the line of what is and what is not acceptable for the cops on numerous occasions. Her relationship with the rest of her team is further explored under extreme pressure, as she becomes the subject of an apparently airtight murder charge.
The first novel in the series promised a solid platform for developing Blake as a protagonist, a promise that is more than fulfilled in this continuation. I look forward to reading the third book in the series when it becomes available. Recommended for fans of good crime fiction with strong female protagonists.
