Owning a bakery has always been Aubrey Turner’s dream. Finding her rival’s dead body was not part of it. When new sheriff Blaze Martin puts her at the top of his suspect list, she’s left with no choice but to try to solve the mystery herself with the help of two friends. With the Fourth of July bash only days away, the town is overtaken by tourists and YouTube celebrities, and it becomes difficult to discern between friend and foe. But when the killer returns and makes an attempt on Aubrey’s life, she realizes that time is running out and she must discover who is behind the attacks before she joins her dead competition.
Author Keri Lynn discovered her love for writing before she’d even completed kindergarten, and that passion has only grown over the years. When the Wisconsin born writer isn’t busy creating new worlds, she can be found experimenting in the kitchen, writing music, and spending time with her family. She resides in Nashville, TN.
I found this book from another authors from the publisher.
This is a cosy mystery written in first person and was a fun read. It is the first book I have read by Keri Lynn but I will be reading more. We start with Aubrey finding her baking rival dead and all signs point to her being the murderer. The New Sheriff has her at the top of the list of suspects. Aubrey and her two friends decide to look for the killer themselves. They think it is the only way to clear her. There is a large cast of characters which confuse me at time. A list of characters at the beginning would be a help. We also have some visiting Youtubers who prove very helpful.
The story takes place in Small Texas town with a spa and a 4th of July celebration that brings in tourists. This is also part of the mystery. I enjoyed Aubrey she is a baker with some interesting cupcakes and other goodies. We learn its a friendly close knit town and again I could see it in the style of series as the Murder she baked by Hallmark. There is also a little romance in the story. One character had my mothers name Mabel which was interest.
I would give this 4 stars mainly due to the fact I got confused at times but I am eagerly awaiting book two. If you like cosy mysteries and first person POV I think you would enjoy this book.
I'm not usually a mystery or cozy mystery genre reader, but I enjoyed this story. The characters are quirky, and the town seems like your normal small town. Everyone knows each other. Everyone is in everyone else's business. And even when you don't particularly like someone, you still behave in a neighborly way. Well, except for the murder. And the breaking and entering. But, technically, that one was apologized for so does it even count any more? If you're a fan of Hallmark style mysteries, Pancakes, Bacon, & a Side of Murder is the book for you!
This book was so good! It's a well written cozy mystery that was a fun read. It was full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end. This book was a joy to read and I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Scrivenings Press LLC and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a great way to spend a couple days on the reading front! Blaze and Aubrey are hilarious to watch, and I hope they appear in subsequent books. I figured out the suspect about halfway through--but the author did a great job at making me second-guess myself, and the denouement was spot on. Very enjoyable!
What a fun who-dunnit! I thoroughly enjoyed this cozy mystery. The plot twists and turns, leaving the reader on a merry chase as to who committed the murder. The setting was authentic, characters were realistic, and I even sympathized with the villain. Looking forward to more of this series.
Update: End of the year I like to reflect back on my books I read/reviews. I came back and added a star because this wasn't a terribly written book. I may have been slightly too harsh simply because I think I might be slightly older than the intended audience and feel this might be better suited for the lower 30's and below crowd.
As another reviewer mentioned, this is a very Hallmark-ish book. I am mostly Thriller but don't mind an occasional cozy mystery or light romance read. That being said, I was not a huge fan of this book but I still give 3 stars due to the unique characters involved (not everyone is a stunning blonde and there is a growth challenged person). The author can be a bit repetitive (the main character constantly "groans" about everything so maybe I just didn't like the character) and is fascinated about always talking about everyone's eyes as their main features/character descriptions. Overall, I really wanted to like this book - it's not a terrible book, but maybe this author just isn't for me.
Flamingo Springs, Texas is a small town, and when one of its two restaurant owners is murdered, everyone suspects everyone else. Quirky townspeople, a snarky protagonist, and three women who decide to help the sheriff in his investigation keep the action moving as the plot thickens, and danger lurks around the corner. Add a few cowboys and an enemies to lovers romance. This cozy mystery is funny, sad, and suspenseful.
