About the author

Simon Packham has written a number of well received books for young people, including 'Silenced', which was shortlisted for multiple awards, 'comin 2 gt u', a novel about cyberbullying and World War Two which is read widely in German schools, and 'Firewallers', chosen as one of The Independent’s children’s books of the year. He lives in West Sussex with his wife Deborah and is a life long fan of Brighton & Hove Albion and musical theatre.

His first middle-grade novel, 'Has Anyone Seen Archie Ebbs?' (Firefly) was selected for the Empathy Lab’s 2023 Reading Collection and shortlisted for The Stockton Children’s Book of the Year and The James Reckitt Hull Children’s Book Award and Worrybot (Fox & Ink) was described by Kitty Empire of The Observer as, ‘a gentle but profound story about friendships, confidence and school refusal with an absolutely audacious plot twist.’

His latest book 'Zak Monroe is (NOT) My Friend' (Fox & Ink), which explores boys’ friendships and anxieties about the transition from primary to secondary school, was selected by Hull Schools Library Service as their title for ‘One Hull of a Read’ 2026 and shortlisted for the InspiRead Book Awards.

It's a nice quick read. If you're into music and like watching shows like the X factor and American Idol, this book is made for you. Of course it opens your eyes to how much people fake things to be able to achieve fame and an amazing career. The book has a cute ending so if you at any time feel like giving up, don't.
