Now that Hailey is solidly settled in Philadelphia and her new vampire life, she's setting roots, tracking down criminals, and taking names. Things have happened so fast starting the moment she moved into her new home.
But she's not one to sit on her duff and let life pass her by. Even an undead life.
With her best friend, new friends, and her Mr. Buttinski Brother, Hailey is ready to take on the world and deal with what life has given her, one night at a time.
But she didn't bargain for taking on the vampire elder council. Yeesh. This may be a little more than she can chew... er, suck. Bite?
Somehow, Hailey must pass their challenges and survive the next bit of shocking news coming her way. Something a certain vampire maker is going to drop in her lap during the big trial with the elders.
She's going to make it work and get herself and Jax out of this mess. These elders got nothing on Hailey Whitfield.

Hailey is a vampire that got turned in middle age. In order to support herself she has set up "the Bond girls" bounty hunting agency. With her best friend who is a witch, new friends and her funny, nosy, but always there for her, brother. Hailey has a great new life. Up until the vampire council decides she must prove herself worthy of being a vampire. If she doesn't prove herself valuable both herself and her maker are in for trouble. Funny, irreverent and lots of action. A great break from the average book!
Every body in the pool even...Luci! I love Luci. The trial is on and everyone has a secret. Great read. I want to say a lot about what happened, but no spoilers.
This is book two of the Fanged After Forty series and follows the main character Hailey (Hails) Whitfield as she adjusts to her vampire lifestyle, after picking in the wrong person to try and apprehend on her first skip chase case, instead getting bitten by a vampire. She only survived her death because her neighbour across the street, Jax (Jaxon) is kind of a biggie in the vampire world in America, and he brought her back as a vampire, even though it is against the vampire council’s laws to do so without permission! She has feelings for Jax, but has no clue if they are going to be reciprocated in any way from him, which is a bit frustrating at times. She has met his sire, Dom (Dominic), who gives off some scary vibes at times, but is nothing like the Council members she will soon be facing when they decide if she should live or die! Jax has been putting off going to see the council, but they can put it off no longer. If they decide she is to be put down, then he will also be punished. They are flying by private, vampire proof, jet to Milan in Italy, to meet these ancient elder vampires and Hailey decides to invite her brother Luke and witch best friend Kendra along, who was also one of the Bond Girls as well as Paige, Jax’s head enforcer, who was staying behind with Luke’s heart throb Ransom. Hailey is put on trial, but this is basically a discussion between the five elders all about her being made a vampire illegally, and what use was she as a human? Being made into a vampire is apparently a highly selective process and she should have had some outstanding or necessary role to play in their society, to be worthy. Apparently, her being a Bond Girl and catching bad guys and getting them locked up, is a human issue and not relevant. Jax had only told her about the different members of the council on their way over and one of the women is really dangerous and won’t be voting to keep her alive, no matter what! She has to try and control her outbursts and let just Jax talk to them, but they throw in a challenge and give her a limited time frame to catch and bring back a powerful rogue vampire! A bit like her recent work back home, but she has far fewer details and can’t have assistance from her sire or his. Luckily she has a human, a witch, a surprising friend of a necromancer, and Jax’s bodyguards, all to help her out. If she fails this challenge, the sentence will be harder on Jax than it will be on her! It seems this rogue vampire has been going on a killing spree and the human police force have little to go on. He is far more dangerous than she realises and far older too. Some of the elders clearly want her to fail and have given her an almost impossible task to complete, in next to no time at all! They will have to work together and use their experience from bond chasing, Luke’s favourite crime shows on TV, and anything else they can get, to find out where this rogue vamp is and to catch him. That isn’t the only surprise that gets thrown her way, as Jax has been holding an ace up his sleeve, for when he needs it, and when it is revealed, it certainly drops a few jaws to the floor. But with the Vampire Elder Council, it also comes with a time limit in which to prove it and Hailey isn’t quite sure how she is going to cope with that! The time to face their punishment for Jax saving her human life against vampire law, has finally come and with it a challenge that may be far too difficult for Hailey to successfully complete, but with a team of friends and a very useful extra, they will face whatever comes and try to get back home in one piece. I can’t wait to see how Jax’s ‘Hail Mary’ pass plays out and it should add a touch of spice to this Bond Girl’s life, I can’t wait! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This was a new series for me... I'd read the witching after 40 series and this series is like a spin off. This book particularly was very tied into it since ava makes a brief appearance but sends LUCI to go help!! Omg I absolutely love Luci's character in these series. I did start from the 1st book so I had the whole understanding of what was going on... I do recommend starting from book 1.
Hailey was accidentally turned into a vampire in book 1 ... she had just moved to town (ava's old house) next to her best friend and across from some scrumptious vampires. She works as a private nurse to a bounty hunter who'd been injured in the job. Hailey's ex was also a bounty hunter and decides to find a mark with her besties help. Only they didn't realize that the mark was a rogue vampire who tried to drain her dry. Her hot vamp neighbor, Jax, saves her by illegally changing her to a vampire too... whoops.
Fast forward to book 2, Hailey and friends are still kicking butt and taking names as the Bond Girls bounty hunters... things seem to be going great, except she and Jax have been summoned to the elders to stand trial. They go to Milan for the trial, and in order to clear her to not be killed, she has to be given a trial to prove her worth. Thankfully, it's just like tracking down a mark except she given very little info and Jax is unable to assist. So she calls in the crew: Kendra, Luke, Paige, Nash and Grim. Ava sends Luci to help... and he is definitely the game changer!!!
They start tracking a vampire gone rogue who is killing women in London. There is so much more that happens so I don't want to ruin it, so just make sure you read it!!
Oh and unbeknownst to Hailey, Jax has a fabulous Ace up his sleeve in the event she fails her mission... and is it ever a game changer too!!! So happy with this!!
First: the only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is so short. 144 pages to be exact.
Again, the story revolves around Hailey, Kendra, and Jax. Hailey's brother, Luke, also features prominently. I think he was created to be the comic relief (at least he made ME laugh). Other people are added also. Two that I missed in my review of book 1 were Ava and Cleo)
I apologize: I forgot so many things in my review of book 1 which I will try to rectify here without giving away the entire plot/ending.
About Ava: she is the necromancer real estate agent that sold Hailey her house. She is only briefly mentioned in books 1 and 2 because she has her own series. :) (Which I am going to read next).
About Cleo: this is the bounty hunter who inspires Hailey to become a bounty hunter. She is also the woman that Hailey takes care of while she (Cleo) is recovering from a gunshot wound that almost left her paralyzed.
In this book, Hailey, Kendra, Paige (vampire enforcer), Luke and two of Jax's vampire enforcers (Nash and Grim) join together to discover who the mysterious serial killer in London is. Hailey has to do this because of vampire law that says "Anyone who makes a new vampire without the approval of the committee will be punished" (this would be Jax) and goes on to state that "his/her illegally made vampires will be destroyed"(this would be Hailey). So, Hailey accepts the challenge of finding and bringing in the serial killer to prove that she is worthy to continue in her "unlife".
This, then, is the story of how Hailey, Kendra, Luke, Paige, Nash, Grim, and Luci (a new character that Ava asked to help the gang out) go about finding the serial killer that will help to save Hailey's continued unlife existence. I have my suspicions of who he really is but...but I'm not telling. :) :)
STAKED IN THE MIDLIFE is the second book in the Fanged After Forty series. You will definitely want to read this series fully and in the order of release. There is some cross-over from the Witching After Forty characters and you will enjoy it more if you are also reading that series, but it is not strictly necessary.
If you’ve read the first book, you knew it was coming. Hailey and Jax have to defend her existence to the Vampire Elder Council. They don’t seem to have a snowball’s chance in Luci’s home, until Hailey is given a challenge that appears to be in her wheelhouse of skip-chasing. Then the council starts adding rules that basically tie her hands behind her back. Hailey and her friend’s prove their intelligence in finding loopholes, locating resources, and standing their ground.
Just when it appeared that success wouldn’t even prove victory, Jax pulls out his secret.
I guessed early on what Jax’s ace-up-the-sleeve was… it’s kind of obvious… but it is oh-so-delicious when that bomb is dropped towards the end of the book. Plus, it sets us up for the next story in the series. I’m looking forward to where this leads us!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: STAKED IN THE MIDLIFE Series: Fanged After Forty #2 Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content. Grammar/editing: received as an unedited ARC / errors excused. Received from: L.A. Boruff
Hailey Whitfield is a bounty hunter who was recently turned into a vampire when she chased a bad guy who bit her and Jax had to turn her. Now the Vampire Council is upset that he didn’t get their authorization first. Nor did she “qualify” for having some value to the vampires before she was turned. So she and Jax have to head to Milan to win the Council’s favor or she will be killed and Jax punished. She is joined by her brother, Luke, and her witch friend, Kendra.
Unfortunately, the cards are stacked against her in this case. The Council gives her an intentionally impossible challenge that will determine whether she lives or dies. She has to capture an older and stronger rogue vampire who has been randomly killing. No one can seem to catch him. She has very few details, a short amount of time to do this, and cannot get help from her sire. Basically, they intend for her to fail. However, her friends and brother are right there with her and they are ready to take on the bad guy! Will she catch the rogue and surprise the Council? Or will Jax’s surprise be more than enough to shake things up?
Hailey reluctantly comes to grips with her new life as a vampire
BB
Bond Girls vampire Hailey Whitfield and her witchy BFF, Kendra, ride again, capturing miscreants who’ve skipped bail. But since she was “turned” without permission from the Council, she must be judged whether she can continue undead or be terminated. Jax, her creator, is her champion before the five-member council of ancient vampires. Hailey accepts the challenge: win, she lives; fail, she and Jax die. She must apprehend a rogue vampire within four days. It proves to be a real challenge despite help from her friends plus Luci. The book ends on a cliffhanger segue into the next book. There is lots of magic among the vampires, witches, demon, and humans and exciting action/adventure episodes. There is suspense as Hailey waits for her final judgment. There is lots of relationship tension between several of the potential couples. The style is not horror or action/adventure, but more the adventures of a recently-turned vampire who still retains many human emotions, tastes, and a snarky, sarcastic attitude. It’s lots of fun in an off-beat, humorous style.
Hailey's undead life has gone from strength to strength, her best witchy friend Kendra and her maker's enforcer Paige are Bond Girls, no not 007 Bond girls, they are Bounty Hunters, tracing people who have skipped their bonds. But Hailey has more on her mind than skippers Hailey is on trial, through no fault of her own, she was the one that died!!! But apparently, because Jax did not garner permission (heck ask permission, not forgiveness right?!) But the council give her a chance or an opportunity, catch a rogue killing in London and she will be allowed to live her undead life. Working with friends from all places after all no-one said she had to do it alone, just with no help from her maker. With an amazing surprise at the end of the book for Hailey With a special cameo from the ladies other midlife series to spice things up what is not to love!
Davis and Boruff have created a world where witches and vampires, fallen angels and shifters live in plain sight and it is a great world to fall into! Start from book 1
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Staked In The Midlife by L.A. Boruff and Lia Davis, the second book in the Fanged After Forty series. The story picks up right after the events in Bitten in the Midlife, book one. Hailey has begun to settle into her new life as a vampire and even begun a business as a bounty hunter. But the council calls and it's time for Jaxson to face the consequences for turning Hailey without permission. Will Jax be punished by having to destroy Hailey? The plot thickens and so does the bonds that tie them together. Action packed with some humor and great character additions, this read delivers on the promise of entertainment. The story has some resolution, but mostly sets up for the net book.
This honest and voluntary review was made possible by obtaining a copy through Booksprout.
Hailey Whitfield, the middle-aged bounty hunter and a newly turned vampire, is still learning and settling in her new life in Philadelphia. Now she and her maker, Jax, are being summoned to Milan to face the vampire elder council to prove that Hailey is worthy of being a vampire.
I really like this book; the plot is very original and unique, it's a laugh out loud funny, full of mystery, paranormal, action, adventure, humor and romance with fast-paced story line and delightful characters, very entertaining and hard to put down. The story is well put together, it's a must read for paranormal cozy mystery fans. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Hailey is back and better than ever. Ready to hunt down jumpers with her friends and ignore her feeling for her sexy maker.
Now they are summoned to the Vampire Order Council for making her (a new vamp) with out permission. Once there she is given a challenge to save herself and possibly her maker. As always things may go a little a stray and sideways but she will try her hardest to pull through. One sexy vamp drops a surprise in her lap.
This is a fun read and always interesting. I am curious where Hailey will go next and will she ever meet back up with Kendra.
If you are checking out this book first please find the first book Bitten in Midlife and get to know the characters properly. Definitely worth the read.
Hailey is starting to enjoy her new life - chasing down skips and collecting the bounty, hanging with her bestie (and fellow Bond Girl), Kendra, and learning to drink a nice glass of O-negative. All is going great until she and her sire, Jax, are summoned to the Vampire Council. It seems Hailey needs to prove her worth or her new life might be over just as it's really getting started.
I love the characters in this series. They're fun and interesting and keep me entertained (Hailey's brother Luke is fabulous!). And I love the storylines. They're intriguing and fast-paced and you're not sure what's gonna happen next. Highly recommend.
I’m loving this series about Hailey who was turned into a vampire now she’s a bounty hunter with a couple of her friends they call themselves The Bond Girls. Hailey is happy with her life but what she’s not looking forward to is that her and Jax have to go in front of the vampire council because Jax saved Hailey’s life by turning her now Hailey has to prove to the council that she is worth saving and not get her and Jax killed. I was looking forward to reading this book and let me say that I wasn’t disappointed at all, I loved this story and the characters and I definitely recommend this book/ series.
Hailey is summoned to Italy to answer to the Elders about her being turned. Hailey brings some others along so this way she wasn't completely only with Jax. Hailey meets with the elders, they decide she has to prove her worth. Hailey reaches out to Ava for help, but she sends someone else. Hailey and the others will work to finish this job before the deadline. Hailey will also learn the card the Jax has up his sleeve, she is floored by it.
There are some interesting twist and turns in this story, especially the ending. You will be entertained by the different characters but also by someone you already know. I recommend reading this.
They can’t put it off any longer; Jax and Hailey have to justify her undead existence to the council of elders. This book had me giggle-snorting for all kinds of reasons. Hailey’s sassy, snarky, and sarcastic – my perfect kind of heroine. Ava sends Luci to “help” which means more chaos than one book should probably contain. And the not-so-subtle pokes at the Twilight universe that the authors co-opted into their own with a wink and a grin absolutely tickled my fancy. There’re still a few complications that Hailey and Jax need to work out, and the quick twist in the end mean I’m itching to learn what’s about to come next. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
My newest addiction is this series I just love it and it's getting better with each book. I liked that it has a crossover with Witching After 40 series and has Luci in it, I just love this Lucifer and when ever he appears in the series I can't help picturing the gorgeous actor from the TV show has this Lucifer also. I love the characters in this series and just can't wait to read more of Hailey, Jax and the others. Hailey and her friends are kick ass Bond girls mixed with funny and relaxed Charlie's Angels, I loved them.

Hailey is back in Staked In The Midlife book two of the Fanged After Forty series. Now a bounty hunter and a newly turned vampire after getting bitten by Jax. There's a lot going on in this book as Jax and Hailey now have to go in front of the Vampire Council and on top of that she has been challenged to find a rogue vampire and things take some interesting turns. This is an entertaining read filled with quirky characters, witty banter, unexpected twists, and a good ending. I look forward to reading the next book in this series to find out what happens next for Hailey. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Recently turned vampire Hailey, and her maker Jax, have to head to Milan to face the vampire council and answer for what they’ve done. Hailey ends up having to prove herself, by going after a rogue vampire- and this is one skip that proves to be a lot harder than her regular human ones!
An enjoyable addition to the Fanged after forty world, as our “Bond Girls” bounty hunters start to get the hang of their new business. It’s a quick read, and one that paranormal women’s fiction fans will enjoy (just make sure you’ve read the first book in this series, and at least a few of the books in Ava’s series to eep up!).
I'm loving this series. This book had me laughing out loud in the best way. Hailey's is all sassy and sarcasm just how I liked my female heroine to be. There still some interesting twists and turn in story, especially the ending which I'll definitely wouldn't spoil. Also can I just say how much I love Hailey brother Luke. Well this book does end on another cliffhanger but I'm looking forward to book 3 in the series. As always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are completely my own.
Lia Davis and L.A. Boruff have conspired between them to enchant your life with this incredible series. Tons of interesting adventures to match the absolutely unique characters, from the classic to the stoic and even a outlandish personality or two round this into an absolute must have for your family friendly collection. I definitely want to see more of this series and enjoyed the slyly done crossover. I already have the third installment on my wishlist!
I love paranormal stories. Give me someone turned in to a vampire to save her life and call me interested. I feel that the author did an amazing job with this story and she never fails to hold my interest. I love Hailey as well as her brother and the rest of the characters that make this such a great read! No Spoilers!

This author duo writes The Best books! They are always so much fun! There is lots of suspense as Hailey has to get through the council, and her life, um undeath, hangs in the balance. We travel to Italy and London, and secrets abound. Ava and Luci are in this too, and I love Luci! A fabulous, fast, fun adventure! I can’t wait the next books form these authors! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy. Hailey and Jax are summoned by the council about her being made and Kalon's death. Hailey must prove herself worthy of her fangs by capturing a rogue. She does with some help and the council accepts it but Jax is still in trouble. He says she is his true mate and they give a time limit to complete the bond. I'm curious about what this means. Hailey is needed back in Philadelphia so more excitement is coming.
Exciting! Yes, she deserved to escape her miserable wedding i.e. being left at the alter while the groom was boinking the brides coworker. Fortunately Hails moved and got an easy job and her life got very exciting quickly! Her life filled with her best friend a witch and another neighbor a yummy vampire and everything went up from there!
This is the second book of Fanged After Forty series. Figuring out more of what vampires can and cannot do. One did you know the sweat, she didn't. This is where Hailey starts the Bond girls Bounty hunters. She has to make a living even if she is a vampire. This book goes into her bounty hunting and being a vampire. I love these books.

Oh my, we start this second book with an interesting character named Herbert. Oh, Lucy and Ava are great. I loved Lucy! Oh goodness, what was going on in London surprised me. When Hailey and the gang returned to the elders in Milan, it seemed that some of them wanted to change the rules, which had only ever been given to one. What was the rule, and how did they get around it? What bombshell does Jax drop? I'm eager for book three now! Enjoy the read!
This is the second book in the series and it did not disappoint. The snarky banter was the greatest and one of my fave characters from the other Midlife series, Luci, had a cameo. The story was full of twists, mystery and a little steamy tension. Hailey is a strong and caring FMC. I can’t wait for the next book, especially after that cliffhanger.
Oh wow what a ride loving this series and all the characters loving Luci can’t wait till next instalment will be preordering once finished this review hopefully not too long to wait till it’s out. Hope you enjoy as much as I did oh yeah don’t bake any plans it’s near on impossible to put down just warning you
