Discovering an abandoned town in the middle of a forest, Odeth is transported to a time when the ghost town was alive, but as someone else—Olivia Valencourt.
***
Magic isn't real—except it is when Odeth wakes up as Olivia Valencourt, a student of Mirren Academy, a school for spell users like her. Well, like Olivia.
Determined to find her way back home, she discovers the truth behind the once-alive abandoned town, and that she's not as much of a stranger to the place and to the person she's pretending to be. In finding friends, love, and herself while trying to change the town's fate, she finds that maybe Mirren Academy is already home.
idk why is it just me but I think the story could’ve been better if it’s longer ‘coz it abruptly ended in a way that the reading experience felt anticlimactic.
Idk if I just outgrew her writing? Was it because I’ve read most of the author’s books as a teenager and maybe reading her works now hits different? idk. Because I love her, and I love her books. She’s my favorite wattpad author back in the days, and I wanted to give this a decent review without comparing it with the other academy book but I can’t.
Because I think this will be a bomb like Titan Academy only if it’s not written this short, because the potential is there, but yeah it’s a little letdown. Though I really enjoyed reading this one and this just felt nostalgic. And I love nostalgia. I remember the original title was Mirren Academy of Mages when the author first made this story public, and I’m kind of surprised that they replaced it to Mirren Academy of Spells. But anyway, it’s 3.5⭐️ for the actual rating.
Bought this last 2023 through self-pub because I couldn't read it isnce it's under of a paid story. I wanna support the author, of course but there was another way which is this when I bought this along with Charm Academy and TAOSA. The two academy stories are alredy great and they were a part of my childhood that I don't know how many times I read it back then. I even finished rereading them last 2024 but something held me not to read MAOS immediately. Until last Aug. 25.
I finally decided to read it and I know now why I had this feeling not to read this quickly. This book deserves to be marinated and entirely focus myself to be a local of this abandoned town. I love Olivia, Alice, Claudia, Santi, Marco, and perhaps, Liam loll. I also love Mrs. Norrie and I was actually hoping that Ms. April will be able to attach even a little scene of Olivia meeting Mr. Gus again to tell what happened to Adelaide 🥺 but I hope in the special chapter, if there would be. Speaking of Adelaide, I didn't expect her to be one of the former local of Cardift. It was heartbreaking to read her story. She will never be able to go back to the town because she lost her magic. At first, I really thought she was the Olivia Valencourt but nopeee HAHA.
Anyway, this book become my most favorite among the fantasy academy stories of Ms. April. I didn't expect that this book will top the two for me. From the settings and plot, it is already unique to me. I'm glad that I didn't get any spoiler when this was released. Maybe because spoilers during the released of this story in Wattpad is not scattered or maybe because it was a paid story.
However, I'm a little sad that I felt like this was rushed and I think this story is the shortest of the academy trilogy. This story actually has so much potential. The characters could have a lot of development. The town, the plot itself. How I wish I could read a scene where Olivia would take a class about learning higher spells and me engaging on it. How I wish I could see more of Santi being a rebel. How I wish I could see more of Olivia's friendship with Alice and Claudia. How I wish I could see Olivia (the Odeth) practicing in learning spells. How I wish I could see many moments of Olivia and Santi sneaking out or coincidentally meeting each other in the ruined tower or some other places except Alleyway. Nevertheless, I'm glad that I was able to purchased this, have the physical book, and can reread many times I want. I wish this will have an adaptation soon. But of course, not everything needs an adaptation. Reading this story and making a pinterest board of this are enough to revisit the town and Olivia and Santi 💚.
PS. I'm still waiting for a special chapters of Olivia and Santi as a couple and where are the other characters now.

im quite disappointed with this story. it felt rushed and underdeveloped. considering the premise, this had the potential to be her best work yet—could have been even better than LWAHB, which i loved dearly. but why did this have to be limited to thirty chapters only? if the length was going to be constrained, the author could've at least compensated with a more thorough, detailed, and layered narrative. unfortunately, the lack of depth in both the characters and the storyline made it difficult for me to connect and enjoy the story. and just as i expected, this ended flat and one-dimensional.
i bought this story way back in 2021 but only read it now in 2025. tbh, i feel a bit unsatisfied. the pacing was super fast, like everything just flew by, so i didn’t really connect with the characters, especially olivia and santi. maybe it’s because it only had 30 chapters, which made the plot feel a little compressed.
but anyway, i still liked it, just not as much as i love miss aa’s other stories.
I WANTED TO WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPSLOCK but I sound really loud LOL Anyway, I haven't read a wattpad book in ages and the only reason that drove me to read the free chapters was because it was an interesting start. TLDR, i love the author's writing style and I love the characters so much. I wish there's a side story for one of the friends or even the alleyway.
The story is good but kinda lacking for me. I am probably looking for more detail and explanation about this and that. The time span of the story is a month or more, that's why the pace is kinda fast. The main character, Olivia Valencourt, is kinda cliche for me, kind and compassionate, there's is no flavor with MC, like no character development for me just plain vanilla. Also the plot is simple.
It is so beautiful. I didn't expect the plot twist. The first time I read it, I was so confused about what happened that time and now that I finished it, I go back to the first chapter and it all makes sense now.

One of my favourites, but the whole book felt rushed, it could've been better if there were more details and more character exploration. I really love the world building.
