Palmer City Voltage #2

Christmas on Ice

Rate this book
Kami Spencer has no plans for romance...

After my divorce, I made two rules:
1. Never date guys with first names for last names.
2. Never date guys whose jobs require travel.

And definitely don't marry them.

I'd like to think I learned from my past experiences. But Trask Emerson feels like a mistake I might have to make.

***
It’s going to take a Christmas miracle…

Stuck in Palmer City, Colorado with a big stack of broken dreams, Kami Spencer picks up a serving job to help make ends meet while she finishes her doctorate. Taking care of her daughter, finishing her degree, and moving back home to South Carolina are her focus, until her plans are complicated by a charming hockey player who skates his way into their lives.

Trask Emerson is at the top of his game. As the Voltage's alternate captain and star defenseman, he's sure to move out of the minors sooner than later. Lately, though, he mostly looks forward to celebrating with the team at Brewski's and getting to know the guarded new server and her little girl. The two have captured his attention and stolen his heart.

The spark between them is undeniable, even if Kami won't admit it. Fate sends them both to Charleston for Christmas, and Trask is determined to show her what a future together could look like. Just when Kami is warming up to the idea of a relationship, tragedy strikes. Trask is there for her, but Kami is afraid to lose her heart again. Can he break down her walls and convince her they belong together?

Christmas on Ice is a sweet, second-chance hockey romance and the second standalone book in the Palmer City Voltage hockey romance series.

Well, this was such a great story! Trask was definitely a swoon-worthy hero. A tough hockey player who was kind and caring not only to Kami, but also to her little girl! Trask was dependable, and his devotion to both Kami and her daughter won me over early on in the story.

Kami had some difficult situations to deal with regarding her ex-husband and I thought she did a good job of being there for her daughter while also not allowing her ex-husband to get away with too much.

Kami and Trask were great together in this story and had wonderful chemistry. Christmas on Ice is a fun and romantic Christmas tale. It is a clean contemporary romance with only a couple of mild curse words.

(4.5 stars)

Felt like i was part of it and Kami and Trask were part of my group!
And Ryleigh! Adorable and smart and her sassy way in her cheer competition! Oh, i felt like i was there with her and Kami and MR TIGGERMAN! I recommend this to everyone and anyone!!

This book is insanely good . It has heart by the buckets full and has all the skills synonymous with my pal Kerry Evelyn’s writing style. These characters make me smile ,in fact I’m actually wide grinning ,so it’s a winning combo. That’s for sure ,you know.

Trask Emerson is new to the Palmer City Voltage team and already alternate captain and star defence man, he’s in love with a waitress thinks she’s a dream, and her cute little girl Ryleigh makes him smile like a crocodile. She calls him Tigger and his heart couldn’t grow any bigger for this little girl whose mommy has his soul ,well that’s his goal if he can pluck up the courage.

The team think he’s mean on the ice roars like a Tiger so that’s how the nickname came about. But Ryleigh melts his heart the sweetheart who thinks he’s fluffy and soft and doesn’t shout. “Ryleigh, sweetie, go on back to your movie so I can get Mr. Jason and Mr. Trask’s orders, okay?” Yeah Kami Spencer does her best ,but with her ex leaving her daughter at the drop of a hat more and more ,it’s a good thing Brenna Brewer comes to the fore. She steps in when Kami needs a sitter. She’s the owner of Brewski’s bar and Grill where Kami works. Though their situation works , Sutton her ex he irks.

She’s thinking that Trask is alright but she has her young daughter to think about and it’s only a few short months that she took flight after her divorce, though it hadn’t been a marriage in years truth be told. So she had to be bold.
Trask came to her rescue when her car was stuck in the snow and although it was freezing cold out ,she sat in his truck and thawed out. If she was honest with herself ,it wasn’t the radiator that caused her to feel the warmth. But this selfless man so different from her ex but she’s not brave enough to think ,he could be next….

Her heart is melting and leaning more into the possibility of a future back home, Trask too and the more she states to herself that she’s better off alone. The sparks and butterflies and the look in her daughter’s eyes when she interacts with this man tells her more than any words can. Trask is her rescued time and time again. He’s not like other men who let you down. He’s as gentle as can be and good to Ryleigh.

I could go on for hours how I love all the characters Kerry Evelyn gives us in this book. Gives us all the drama and the angst then brings us back and takes the slack. Our hearts are racing with anticipation that more than three hearts are going to be joined together this Christmas season. There’s Brendan who is eying the two of them. “You and Kami. You got it bad, Tiger.” ,he knows that look in his eyes , mesmerised by the woman in question.Perhaps he too is thinking of a future suggestion…

Ryleigh melts my heart , and she was there rooting for her mummy and Mr Trask to get together too. He’s always coming to her rescue. And my heart melts at the interactions between the little girl and the grown ups. She stole his heart along with her mummy. The sparks are dynamite as he holds her tight. “He’s out there, Kami. Maybe hiding in plain sight.” One of the cutest lines he has.

Trask Emerson caught himself a couple of butterflies for Christmas and he’s not letting them go. She may have the jewellery but he has the real things ya know. Love takes flight like it also has wings. A love that’s pure and makes his heart sing just by being loved by them. Because he doesn’t take one without the other. This little girl and her beautiful mother who he does adore. They are his forevermore.

Kerry Evelyn is a dream of a storyteller, she loves her characters,it’s plain to see and how immersive their stories be. The intertwining links to them all have you familiarly smiling ,it’s so beguiling to witness the friendships and the relationships between all the families and friends ,found family too. The Hockey community that grows far and wide but they’re friendships that will never leave your side nor mind. Nor your hearts as each Kerry Evelyn story is filled with love you can be sure of.Stay in your mind long after reading the last page until the next one that has you engaged. A true pleasure to read at my leisure in my favourite nook is this beautifully crafted hockey romance book.

There is nothing like a sweet romance, especially around the Christmas holidays! This one was not only between a waitress and an amazing hockey player, but it also involves the waitress’ sweet 3 year old! The love that grows between the hockey player and the three year old is heartwarming, but I absolutely loved the very end! I have never heard of such a thing, and it is so very special and such a wonderful way to bring the story to a close! Nice job, Kerry Evelyn - loved it!

Trask plays hockey for the Voltage, he's in Palmer City, Colorado, he's going to meet his team mates in the bar, hoping to see the bartender, Kami, and possibly her three year old daughter, Ryleigh, who has nicknamed him Tigger!
Kami's ex is a piece of work, he was unfaithful to her so they broke up, he's very unreliable with Ryleigh, and often doesn't pick her up when he's supposed to.
Trask carefully tries to get Kami to date him as he's extremely taken with her, but as she's very wary, after Sutton, he doesn't want to frighten her away.

Another great read in the series from Kerry.

The Perfect Partner . . .

This is a story about a single mom, Kami Spencer, who is a server at Brewski's while she raises her daughter and works to complete her doctorate degree. When she accomplishes that, she intends to go back home to South Carolina. Her ex-husband is an abusive man who makes her life as difficult as he can. Kami meets a hockey player, captain of the team, who seems really nice, too good to be true? But Trask Emerson is indeed just that wonderful. He is caring toward both Kami and her little girl, Ryleigh.

The sizzling chemistry between them is strong, but Kami hesitates to commit. Can Trask convince her that they could have a wonderful future together? Or is she too afraid to risk losing her heart again?

I am going to start off with saying that Ryleigh is my favorite in the book and she isn't even the main character. She is adorable and funny. But back to the leads. Kami is an amazing mom who is trying to do what is best for her and her daughter, Ryleigh. Trask noticed Kami the 1st time he walked in to Brewski's and it was love at first site for him. He just had to convince Kami he was worth taking a risk on.

The second book in the Palmer City Voltage series after reading this story I now want to read the first book. Kami Spencer and her daughter Ryleigh and Trask Emerson the Voltage's alternate captain and star defenseman's story that happens over Christmas and New Year's eve. The story was well worth reading. Christmas on Ice is by far my favorite Kerry Evelyn story. It is sweet, heart melting, and still has some great intense moments to keep you hooked through every page. Single parents stories have so much potential for adorableness, and this one was all of that and more. Reading this book you'll be feeling butterflies, be worried along with different characters, tearing up, grinning like a fool, and be swooning over how sweet Trask is.

As someone who isn't particularly into hockey, or really any sports, Kerry Evelyn's books are really starting to get me interested in giving it a chance (even if it means me watching and just dreaming up cute stories about the players and their families). It takes great talent for an author to get you hooked on a story involving a topic you don't care for, Kerry Evelyn has that exact talent. You can read these books with zero interest in sports and love the stories she tells.

As a bonus...Ryleigh is seriously just the cutest and reminds me of my daughter and nieces haha. I loved how real she was.

I highly recommend reading Christmas on Ice as well as the books coming before it (Cruising on Ice and the prequels). Each could be read as a standalone, but I think it's more fun to read in order and be able to see different characters coming back.

This was a clean, sweet, friends to lovers read. Kami and Trask were amazing, but I absolutely adored Ryleigh, her daughter. I loved the strong educated woman Kami was, and was willing to fight for her education. However, at other times I was frustrated because I felt she was taking advantage of Trask’s generosity/friendship. It was worth reading to see how she worked though her feelings and accepted his love. The characters are all amazing and their plot keeps you engaged. I highly recommend you give this book a try, especially if you enjoy sweet holiday romances.

4.5-stars for Christmas on Ice

It's a clean, fun, romantic read, there is a bit of sports romance but not too much and it's clean and so sweet. Ryleigh's role is so cute and fits perfectly in this sweet, clean romance. In some parts Kami wasn't my favorite, she seemed to take Trask for granted but even with her being wishy washy Trask and Kami still seemed to have great chemistry. I wasn't a really a fan of the abrupt ending but recommend reading this once for yourself as well as the other books in the Palmer City Voltage series.
Even though I did receive an advanced review copy of this book, I also purchased the book / read it with Kindle Unlimited and am voluntarily leaving my own unsolicited opinion with my voluntary review

This is the first book I have read by Kerry Evelyn and I really enjoyed the story.  It was a fun, romantic book involving Trask, a hockey player and Kami, a divorced mom with a cute, three year old daughter named Ryleigh.  I liked the significance of the butterfly in the story and how much Trask came to love Kami and her daughter.  The little girl stole my heart in this book.  I definitely want to read more books by the author!  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

Love, love, loved it! Once again, Kerry has written another beautiful love story with lovable, relatable characters that I want to know in real life. It's the perfect story to read on a rainy day while curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket next to the Christmas tree. I wanted to binge this series like I binge Hallmark movies. Please hurry and write another one!

Christmas on Ice is a beautifully written Christmas story. Its about a single mom trying to get a better education so she can take care of her child. This touched home as my mom was a single parent trying to take care of me. You can really relate to Kerry's characters. I highly suggest checking out this book as well as her other books.

Christmas on Ice is a sweet story of Kami, a single mom of Ryleigh.  She is going to school for her doctorate and serves at the local Brewski's.  She plans to move back home to South Carolina after she finishes school.  Her ex-husband was abusive and continues to make her life difficult.  She meets Trask, who is a hockey player and he is so sweet to both her and Ryleigh.  While the chemistry is strong, Kami is afraid to love again and risk heartbreak. Will Trask convince her he has good intentions and wants a life with them both?

This is a quick read and a clean, sweet romance.  This is book number two in the Palmer City Voltage series, you could read it as a stand alone, but I would encourage you to read book one, Cruising on Ice which is just as sweet.  I am looking forward to reading book three, Celebration on Ice soon!

The saying of no two readers read the same book is true. I'm definitely in the minority on this one. It was just meh for me.

There were a few things that were not believable to me. The main one was Ryleigh and how she speaks way beyond her years. One of my nephews just turned 4 and he's a pretty smart little dude but 90% of the things that came out of Ryleigh's mouth would never even cross his mind nor would he even understand what she was talking about. I had a big problem with that.

The other thing I struggled with was Kami. I did not connect with her at all and found myself rolling my eyes from all the drama. If I'm being honest, I wish Trask would've just walked away. It was just too much.

I got so lost in this story. I was hooked after the 2nd chapter because each chapter was from a different POV. It was an interesting story and didn't shy away from the struggles of divorces and exes. This is book 2 of the Palmer City Voltage Series & is a standalone. Characters from the author's other books appear & you won't feel as if you're missing something but you may be curious to read their stories as well. The book's blurb lets you know what to expect. It's a sweet single mom first person dual pov sports romance.

As a single mother who is working to receive her doctorate's degree, Kami has no time for love. While her ex shares custody of their daughter, he isn't much help & adds to Kami's stress. She's doing her best to support her daughter. Becoming friends with Trask opens her up to the possibility of having a companion again but she's still wary after her last relationship. However, as Trask shows her what kind of man he is she begins to question if she can open herself up to love. Kami can be indecisive, which readers may not like all the time, but her fears are understandable & so was the way she worked through them.

Although he is in the minors, Trask is doing well enough that it's only a matter of time until he gets called up. However, he doesn't worry too much about that & continues to be as is. While he doesn't think too much about the future, he does have a desire to be able to play for a team near where he grew up. Learning that Kami is from around the same area helps add to growing affection that he feels for. He admires her work ethic & how she is as a mother. He isn't scared off by the fact that wanting a relationship with Kami also means wanting a relationship with her daughter. In fact, he embraces it & loves the little girl as if she's his own. Trask was very understanding, patient, & caring so it's impossible not to love him.

Because of Kami's concerns, the romance is a clean slow burn. The time that they spend getting to know each other is sweet so you won't mind. You will also enjoy Trask spending time with Kami's daughter. At times, the daughter sounded mature & older than she was but I liked the smiles that she brought to the story. There is slight drama with the ex but it doesn't feel too overwhelming. Also, if you like Christmas stories, then you will like the small holiday feel throughout the book. Overall, this is a book that readers will enjoy.

Oh. My goodness!

This is my second five star read this day!

Sweet Trask made me think of Colonel Brandon; he is kind, he is consistent, he respects Kami and does not make excuses for his bad behavior!

Kami is kind of like Marianne (she is NOT stupid, she is kind and trusts lots of people, maybe the wrong guy) and then she learns how to be confident as a mama to Rileigh and to not atttle for her bitter ex husband.

lol if you’ve read sense and sensibility, you know who the ex husband is like! 😅🚩🚩🚩

I loved seeing the family come to Kami’s defense! (No spoilers, but if you have bad experience with a controlling mom in law, just be aware this trope is in here, too).

Best quotes: “Kami leaned her head into my shoulder. "You ever just sit and wonder if you'd followed certain advice, where
your life would be right now?"
"Yeah." I felt that deeply. "But I try not to dwell on it. I don't want to have any regrets, you know?"
"I have a lot of regrets." She shifted, pulling her legs up and crossing them on the bench,
"I hope you don't regret tonight." I slid my arm off the bench and cupped her shoulder.
"Just one thing about it."
I turned to find her looking up at me. Again, I felt that we were talking with our eyes.
"What's that?" My breath puffed out in a cold cloud between us, blurring her features, but there was nothing
blurry about what she wasn't saying. But I wanted to hear her say it.
"That friend-zone line I drew ... Do you think it would be a bad idea to cross it?"
"I don't know, but I know I want to cross it." I angled my face over hers. Our lips met, and what I thought would be a quick, gentle kiss was anything but.
Kami wrapped her arms around my neck and tugged me closer. I kissed her with everything I had. I wanted her to
know—no, to feel-that this meant something to me. I needed her to know that this was important.
"Wow," she breathed, pulling away. "I've never been kissed like that before."
"That's a crime. We should kiss again so you can't say that anymore."
She grinned and climbed onto my lap. "Kiss me like that till they turn the tree lights off?"
"With pleasure."

This book takes us back to one of my favorite fictional hockey towns, Palmer City, Colorado!  The southern gentleman who has sworn off love until he makes it to the NHL and the waitress who can’t wait to get her doctorate, so she can return home didn’t see each other on their bingo cards.  This is book 2 in Kerry Evelyn’s Palmer City Voltage series.

Trask Emerson is as sweet as the iced tea down south!  This South Carolina native is a beast of an athlete on ice, but as soft and squishy as a “Tiggerman” off!  His previous relationships burned him, so he has no desire to go down that rabbit hole again for a while!  Yet, he continues to be drawn to a particular waitress at his favorite pub and grub!  That and a certain 3.5-year-old who is obsessed with all things fairies!

Kami Spencer has been through a whole lot between marrying/divorcing young, earth science grad student, full-time waitress at Brewski’s and doting mom to Ryleigh!  Her life has turned out to be so very different from everything she planned, but with the help of one hockey player she is realizing not everyone is out to manipulate or burn her the way her ex did.  He just wants to be her friend and maybe help restore her faith in men along the way.

These two are so good together and for each other!   Trask is always willing to jump in, even when Kami insists on doing things herself!  Kami is his unexpected link to home aka the south and he’s not about to let that go.  Let’s not forget how critical Ryleigh is to their story, she’s comic relief often, but also the lifeblood that draws the pair closer time and time again.  I always love when the child of their single parent’s story is given depth because they must adjust to the new relationships as much as the adults do.  While I wasn’t fond of Kami’s ex, Sutton, appearing on the page, he was still essential in helping tip the scales in Trask’s favor for her heart!  Job well done Kerry!  It was my pleasure to read this!

Kerry just made my heart melt into a big puddle!! I fell in LOVE with Trask and he's now another book boyfriend! That man took my heart and soul! This book pulled me in from the beginning and I really didn't want to see these characters go. This book had me smiling and swooning so much my cheeks hurt.

Kami is a single mom to the sweetest little girl named Ryleigh! She's working on getting her doctorate but to pay the bills she is working at the local bar. When Trask a Hockey player shows up to have drinks with the guys he see's Kami & her daughter Ryleigh and can't stop thinking about them. These two have instant chemistry and Ryleigh just adores Mr. Tiggerman! LOL..I loved that nickname she has for him. Those two will have a beautiful bond.

Here's one of the quotes I loved : "They say if you let a butterfly go and it comes back to you, it's yours to keep." "I want you to keep me Trask," I whispered. "I love you."

Then to sum up Ryleigh and Traks a.k.a. Mr. Tiggermans relationship:
"I think you need to be kissed, Mr. Tiggerman." His smile showed pure adoration. "I do. I plan to kiss your mommy at midnight." "Yeah. But I'm going to kiss you first." He turned his head, and her lips connected to his cheek. "Thanks, Ryleigh-girl. I did need that."

This book is a MUST READ! You will fall in love with these characters and the side characters. This series is so much fun and I'm loving every book! I can't wait to see what Kerry will write next!

Thanks Kerry Evelyn for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.

Single mom, Kami Spencer, has her hands full with her three-year-old daughter, working at Brewski’s and completing her Doctorate. Trask Emerson seems to be in the right place at the right time to be able to come to her rescue a few times. When they discover that they are from the same area in South Carolina, he asks her to be his date to his sister’s wedding, which just happens to be at Cami’s family bee farm, and allows her to spend Christmas with her family. When Cami’s ex-husband shows up, he tries to reconcile with Cami, but she wants nothing to do with him! When he gets in an accident, will Cami have a change of heart or will she realize that Trask is the one for her?
This is Book 2 of the Palmer City Voltage series and it did not disappoint. I read the series out of order, but that didn’t matter. The books intertwine and help fill in missing gaps. I can’t wait to read the other books in this series.

I hate Sutton.
He cheated on kami and wasn't nice to her but expects her not to move on.
He thinks he deserves ry everytime he wants her but when he is scheduled to have her he has an excuse everytime.

I love that trask  bought tickets for kami and ry to go home to South Carolina for his sister's wedding and for Christmas with her family.

I couldn't believe Sutton had the nerve to show up at Brooklyns wedding and cause a Scene.
How embarrassing for kami.

It's awful that Sutton got into an accident but it was his own stupidty.
I hope he signs the papers to take kami off as his medical decisions. That isn't fair for her.

I hate how she pushed Trask away.

That was the sweetest engagement I've ever heard of

Trask didn't just ask kami to marry him he bought a ring for Ry too and asked her.
Tears.

5 stars.

Kami & Trask

This is a sweet, short, easy read! The ending packs a lot of conflict and drama, but helps to drive the characters to reach their full potential.

I love love love a book with children, and Ryleigh is superb! I think she is what really drives the plot in a way. She was adorable the whole way through. Kami showed so much growth and trust through the story, but I didn’t find myself getting frustrated with her towards the end. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to get over her fears! I love how patient and loving Trask was while he waited for her to find herself and figure things out.

If you’re looking for a sweet Christmas hockey romance, you’ll enjoy this one!
