Little Miss Ditzy lives in Nonsenseland, where the worms wear hats and pigs play tennis. She doesn't do everything the way you or I would, as you can imagine! Nothing she does makes much sense.
Roger Hargreaves was a British cartoonist, illustrator and writer of children's books. He created the Mr. Men series, Little Miss series and Timbuctoo series, intended for young readers. The simple and humorous stories, with bold, brightly coloured illustrations, have sales of more than 85 million copies worldwide in 20 languages.
I enjoy when Roger tries to turn things upside down. This is set in Nonsenseland and all the trees are red and the grass is blue. It’s pretty on the page. I don’t think Miss Ditzy is very ditzy. She is more smart.
There is a contest for the most Dottiest idea cup for the year. She is competing against Mr. Nonsense and Mr. Silly and others like them. Not anywhere does Miss Ditzy act ditzy. She does paint dots on her house and that is the dottiest idea. Seems literal for someone ditzy. Roger does count up all the ‘i’s’ in the story and he says he used 193 dots to write the story. I found that interesting.
I did get the nephew to read this with me. The niece will not read these books as she considered them her brothers ‘type’ of book. He thought this was boring. He gave the story 2 stars and he thought they could have done better, it seems to him. There you have it.
I absolutely loved these Mr Men and Little Miss books. I remember getting them from my granny every week. There was so much from these simple characters, I remember filling my little bookshelf with all these books making sure I had got them all in right order. I wish I still had these books but somehow most of them got lost with many house moves or my mum gave the rest away. If I ever have kids, I will make sure they get the chance to experience these wonderful, colourful books.
Ah, Mr Men and Little Miss, how wonderful you are!
These books made up so much of my childhood. No matter what I would go ahead and pick one up. I worked my way through them all a couple of times. Each one has a wonderful story for the child to engage with, each character being fun to read.
Everyone has a bias for their favourite character, yet every book is delightful.
I really liked this one. Unlike Mr Dizzy, Miss Ditzy lives in Nonsesenseland, which seems like a much more pleasant neighborhood than Cleverland, and much more suited to her temperament.
She wins a contest for the dottiest idea by a technicality, and as we all know, technically correct is the best kind of correct. She is my idol and I stan. A++
