Morelli Family #6

Devoted to the Don

Rate this book
Luca thought keeping me out of the Family business would keep me safe.
He was wrong.

Now his own life is hanging in the balance, too.

While our enemies stalk us, long-buried secrets begin to resurface, and I’m not sure who we can trust.

But I won’t let anyone take him from me. No matter what I have to do.

I meant every promise I made to Luca in my marriage vows. And now it’s time to make good on them -- for better or worse.

Till death do us part? Over my dead body.

I’ve been underestimated my whole life. But if there’s one thing our enemies should have counted on, it’s my love for my husband.

My devotion to the Don.

***

Join Finch and Luca in a dangerous, action-packed, steamy adventure that takes them from New York to Boston, through Roman ruins and a Venetian masquerade, as they redefine their marriage and search for a way to eliminate their enemies for once and for all.

Devoted to the Don is the sixth book in the Morelli Family series.

Leighton Greene

Leighton Greene has been writing stories since she was old enough to hold a pencil. Her first book was a choose-your-own-adventure style book about deciding what to eat for breakfast. It didn't shake the New York Times bestseller list, but she still has a copy of it.

After spending some time writing in academia, fanfiction and corporate reporting, Leighton decided she should probably do what she actually wanted to do, which was to write commercial fiction. So she did. She writes gay romance and, when the mood strikes, erotica as L.J. Greene.

Leighton lives with her partner and her cockatiel on the east coast of Australia.

Aaaaaand that's it. The main story is all wrapped up, and I've got to admit I had a good time with it from the mafia storyline perspective. I enjoyed the overarching plot all the way through, which was a win! However, this meant going back to the main couple, Luca and Finch, again 😪

Look, I don't hate them, but I don't love them either. I actually have a big soft spot for Luca, but Finch annoyed me the entire way through. I can't pinpoint why exactly, but I just never warmed to him. It certainly didn't help that every other couple in this series was so much more appealing than Luca and Finch. I can totally see myself coming back to this series to re-read it for the other couples but skipping out on Luca and Finch's books. It's just too bad, you know? This could've been a 5* series for me if I liked them more 🥲

*** I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.***

Devoted to the Don is the final installment of the Morelli Family series featuring Finch and Luca. I loved Devoted to the Don, it was the perfect finale that included high-intensity moments as well as heartwarming moments as well.

One of my favorite aspects of this story was the love and devotion so clearly on display between Finch and Luca. They are both in comprised positions at the start of this story and watching how their relationship is tested in ways they have not experienced before was fascinating to see. There are unearthed family secrets that are revealed and ultimatums that are finally reached.

Overall I love this series and it was so much fun to have all of the Morelli Family characters together again as well as a few surprises as well. Cannot wait for the West Coast series and hopefully, there are a few surprise guest appearances that appear as well.

“There’s no one alive who could rule over you, baby bird, not unless you allowed it. I’d be a fool to think otherwise.”

3.5 starts. Okay, so while I can conclusively say that I flat out do not like Finch and Luca as much as I like the other couples in this series, I'm very happy to say that I ended up liking this book way more than I liked their previous books. And it was looking kind of dicey for a while there. The writing was more melodramatic than the other books, and Luca is simply not the kind of character that I gravitate towards. His attitude, ego and over the top machoman schtick gets old so fast.

But happily this is something that he has no choice but to work on during this book: giving up a teensy bit of control, extending his trust, letting Finch protect him as much as he obsesses over protecting Finch. After the events of the past couple book, Luca is hurt and they have to go on the run for a bit, all while figuring out the best ways to deal with their enemies and resolve the myriad of problems that are popping up back home. There's a bit of friction in the relationship, and Finch is slowly but surely forcing Luca to realise that certain things have to change between them. And it's all for the better. Finch does make me laugh, and I adore that he's nobody's doormat, no matter how powerful Luca is. As for Luca, his stubbornness amused me more than it annoyed me this time around. While their chemistry isn't as all-consuming to me as some of the other couples, they were still really electric to read about, and I love the loyalty they inspire in each other, how absolutely ride or die they are. This tackles some issues and questions I had from the first books, and we delve a bit deeper into Finch's past and family. Lots of cameos from the other couples, which I adored. ALSO there was definitely a bit of Gina/Sophia flirtation, and I was living for it. I really hoped Greene has plans for an f/f mafia romance, for that couple or any other. I will be SEATED.

Very satisfying close to the series all in all. I had a lot of fun reading this one. And I'm glad there's another novella to look forward to, because I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to these characters.

I didn't wanted to finish reading this book because now it means I had to say goodbye to these characters I'd fallen for. Now Finch and Luca's story is told and over, and it's hard to live in a world where are no more Finch and Luca. This series is high on my top of favorite list, if not on the top, and I only have amazing things to say about it. Loved, looooved every book, every character and their unique HEA, but Finch and Luca are the best of the best. Don Morelli and his princess.

I finished last year with this book and I read it for days, I tried to make it last longer. Loved every page of it, it was so long and so exciting and just perfect. There were times when I wanted to slap Luca so hard, and there were times I was biting my nails so hard. It's te perfect mafia romance ever. Perfectly balanced mafia scenes with the sweet romance and hot erotica, just per-fect!

I'm not the one to pair songs with books or characters, but this time it just called for it. I have three songs for this amazing book:

Luca's theme song : Why Don't We - Fallin'
Finch's theme song (especially the Rome scene): Sia - Unstoppable
Their love story' theme song: Coldplay X BTS - My Universe

The Rome scene was super exciting and nail bitingly awesome! LOOOOVED it. And the whole third honeymoon part just awwww. Luca and his adrenalin, being young and reckless again, Finch and his 'I do anything for Luca' attitude, just so hot and full with love.

The ending of the book was bittersweet, I kept the last 10% for the last day of the year. I was sad to say goodbye but happy at the same time because the book has a really good ending. I can't wait the next series and I'm looking forward to meet some of these characters there.

Leighton did a super fantastic job with this series. I didn't know at the beginnig that I'll fall this hard for this series, but god oh god, how deeply I love everyone in this world.

5+ ⭐️s for this final installment

Luca and Finch in the aftermath of the siege on their NYC residence find peace with each other.

All the players are back, even Angelo and Bax! This series has been such a great read but I’m glad we got another Finch and Luca book.

Luca is trying to come to terms with his mortality and this caused a bit of tension that was never there before with Finch. Finch comes into his own power in this book and it was great to see. Luca knows that Finch is a force.

They fall deeper in love with one another as they root out all the enemies they share. Killing together reading is a bonding experience. Lol.

The story comes full circle and the end was very gratifying. This series has been such a FAB experience to read. One of favorites this year! I absolutely adore these characters and with the new spin off series we may get to see them in action again! Highly recommend!

From 'Married to the Mobster' to 'Devoted to the Don' the Morelli Crime Family especially Finch and Luca made me low key obsessed, with the whole universe Leighton Greene created!

We not just get a grand finale for Finch and Luca, it's also a great conclusion for the overarching plot that got me hooked from MttM til now.

adding the narration, performed by Michael Ferraioulo and it's even better.
I loved to revisit the whole story in audio, and I can't express all the thoughts and emotions I'm currently having in my mind.

it's definitely one of the best mafia series I listened/read

Devoted to the Don is the perfect conclusion to an awesome series. I can easily get bored reading multiple books about the same couple, but Greene does such a fantastic job creating the world of the Morelli Family that the story feels fresh and moves quickly. It picks up where the last book left off, with Luca recovering from an attack by the IFF. Finch has to step up to take care of him, and Luca learns to trust Finch with some of the more unsavory aspects of their business. I love that Finch finally comes into his own and proves himself to be as tough as Luca. There’s a ton of heat, and their love for each other grows even stronger as the book progresses. We’re also treated to some delicious descriptions of Rome and Venice when Luca and Finch go to Italy to try and decipher a mysterious note from Finch’s mother. All of my favorite supporting characters from the other books make appearances and make the story richer. The book is dark, violent, and full of action, but it’s also surprisingly sweet in parts. I’ll definitely miss Finch, Luca, and the rest of the Morelli crew.

Luca & Finch
This story was far more complex than I had been expecting. I was on the edge of my seat at the end of the last book with the attack and Luca's condition, and I knew it couldn't logically end that badly, but I was still surprised at the direction this plot took. I'm impressed by the level of subtle detail and suspense built into the story and the clear mystery added to the moments we don't get to see.
As always, Finch & Luca have an amazing relationship, full of devotion and love. I'm not sure why Luca would have ever doubted Finch's love and loyalty, but watching Finch hold his own over and over in this action-filled story was incredible.

Audiobook Update
Narrated by Gary Ferraiuolo
Each new installment in this series has built in intensity, at least from what I can tell. With each new couple and then this most recent with a "redo" of Finch & Luca, the drama grows, but Gary does a fantastic job of maintaining each of the distinct character voices while perfecting his performance of the writing by Leighton Greene.

I received an authorized copy of this audiobook and am volunteering my honest review.

Phenomenal!! Were back with Luca and Finch!! Yay! I seriously adore Luca and Finch, Luca’s little bird. I’m sad because this is the series end. I’m going to miss all these fantastic characters and the world building the author has created. The adventure and suspense are top notch. I adore this authors writing, it always leaves me with a smile! Overall, a fantastic read. The story flowed nicely, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. Audiobook - an excellent job performed by a favourite narrator.
Story - while Finch and Luca are not my favourite MCs in this series, their relationship is clearly very strong. On the whole, there were some rather too melodramatic moments. The strengthening of (found) family bonds was good, and the ending of the series worked really well. I particularly liked that Luca, so very determined to keep Finch safe and out of reach of danger, managed to relinquish some of that total macho control to give Finch more credit.

5 ⭐️I simply adored this book. I was so intrigued by the cliffhanger of the last book that I couldn’t wait to dive into this one.

For a mafia setting i must sat this was a deeply romantic story. Luca and Finch truly went through the for better or worse portion of their vows in this story.

I am once again amazed at the versatile voice talent of the audiobook narrator. Wow, every character has nuanced variations that truly bring the story to life for me.

If you have read the previous books this one will delight! Even if you haven't this is a fantastic MM mafia romance

A great culmination to the Morelli Family series, with Finch coming into his full power, at the side of Luca. I like how the central mystery of the IFF is solved, and how well-constructed it was over the entire series. 4.5 stars.

Brilliant Mobster Romance Packed with Action & Heat

Wow. Wow. Just wow!!! I want to erase my memory of reading this series just so I can experience it again! It is all brought together in this final book. This is such an immersive read. Stays true to the mobster world and their rules. There's gratuitous violence and Luca and Finch's undeniable chemistry. The writer really fleshed everything out well. Some of it you only appreciate when the book's ended. The author is so good at writing tender, passionate, pleasing romance. Every sentence gives you feels. The sex is so good in the way it adds to the plot. I'm going to miss the connection Lucifer and his little bird brought to me. Very exciting, action packed, steamy, romantic, fantastic. Just lose yourself in this book
One of the best MM mob ROMANCE out there... if not the best.

Audiobook Review: Devoted to the Don by Leighton Greene ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am completely hooked on The Morelli Family series! More! I need more! This series has easily become one of my all-time favorites. Every book adds new layers, but Devoted to the Don stands out in a truly special way. Unlike previous installments, this book doesn't introduce a new couple. Instead, it circles back to Finch and Luca—the first couple of the series. Seeing how their relationship has grown was a real treat. Their banter is sharper, their love deeper, and the emotional connection between them has never been stronger. Finch’s character development in this book genuinely surprised me (in the best way!), and the added plot twists gave the story even more depth. What could have been “just another romance” turned into a drama-filled, character-driven masterpiece. One of the things that keeps me so obsessed is the overarching storyline of The Morelli Family. Leighton Greene has crafted an intricate web of relationships and power dynamics that builds beautifully from book to book. The series challenges you to connect the dots, while keeping you hooked with every twist and turn. Each installment adds richness to both new and returning characters, making the entire world feel alive and immersive. Leighton Greene’s storytelling continues to be exceptional. Her attention to detail, pacing, and ability to weave complex plots is masterful. This series is so much more than a simple mafia romance—it’s an emotional journey with slow-burn suspense, layered characters, and unforgettable moments. Of course, no review would be complete without mentioning Michael Ferraiuolo’s narration. He is, without question, one of my top three narrators of all time. His work in Devoted to the Don is nothing short of phenomenal. The voices remain consistent, the emotion is palpable, and his accent work is flawless. He brings Luca and Finch to life with such authenticity that it’s hard to imagine anyone else voicing them. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the series or just discovering it, Devoted to the Don is a must-listen. The combination of Greene’s brilliant writing and Ferraiuolo’s stellar narration makes this audiobook an unforgettable experience. Trust me—you’ll be hooked from the very first word. #LeightonGreene #MorelliFamily #DevotedToTheDon #MichaelFerraiuolo #Ferrajunkies #AudiobookReview #NarrationPerfection #TopSeries #MMRomance #QueerRomance #BookObsessed

So, this is the end. I've loved every step of the way that's brought us to the conclusion of the Morelli Family series and I had super high hopes for this final installment. Devoted To The Don is definitely a fitting way to close Finch and Luca's story, but it doesn't quite reach the perfect ride into the sunset I wanted for them.

I love the family aspect (both blood and found with everyone rallying around our MCs in their time of need at the start), as well as the Family elements where we finally get closure on the overarching series plot. There's so much to like about the bonds between the characters, especially between Finch and Luca who go through that last bit of personal growth to fully accept and appreciate that they work best as a true partnership. They're brilliant characters, complex yet relatable. I absolutely get why they're overprotective in their own ways...why Luca doesn't want Finch embroiled in Family business or why Finch doesn't want Luca hurt again by the IFF, as in the previous book. I also get how completely devoted they are to each other, bringing so much sweetness and heat to their union.

I also really like the action jumping from New York to Boston to Italy and back again. There are some fantastic descriptions of Rome and Venice interspersed with solving the final mystery that will see off the Morelli Family enemies.

So why doesn't this feel like a perfect ending for me? Well, I'm one of those people who doesn't feel it necessary to give every one of the series MCs/side characters a cameo because it's the last book. I think the pacing would have been tighter without some of the scenes that feel written for a side character. They made it a little bit too long and took the focus off Luca and Finch occasionally.

Overall, though, Devoted To The Don's still a great way to say goodbye (or at least 'bye for now'?) to Don Morelli and his uccellino. Now I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to happen in the Family on the west coast next year… 4.25*

Spell-binding, action-adventure, mafia M/M romance with mysteries solved...?
This felt so much like a “goodbye” to the East Coast Morelli Famiglia. I hope we get cameos of them in future mafia books by Ms. Greene. This was a long book, over 500 pages and it was packed with substance. Lots of “curtain calls” from previous friends who had moved on. Many situations come to a remarkable resolution. Several relationships are rekindled and a few are broken forever. I will add that this book starts up immediately after the tragic ending of “Kissed by a Killer.” Ms. Greene has recapped some of this for us but to better understand the intricacies among these many characters, I suggest reading “Kissed” first.
After some seriously scary moments we finally get to see Finch come into his own. There are some truly paranormal or spiritual events which are beautifully done. Not heavy but just enough to make you think someone has an angel on his shoulder. There will be a few twists which surprised me. Humor...I almost forgot, many funny parts. And, passion, can’t forget that either. Lots of steam, like when Finch confesses his adoration of Luca in their shower. Luca’s thoughts remind us continually of his feelings for his “little bird” or his Italian “uccellino” which is such a sweet name for his Finch.
This book was a page-turner. If I was a nail biter, I would only have nubs now. If you like mafia stories, M/M romance with lots of passion and aggressive behavior, read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews. At least 5 scintillating stars! Pssst...LOVE her covers too;-)

Luca and Finch find themselves in the middle of a war, and are fighting for their lives. They have to rely on each other more than ever, and on allies both new and old to get through.

Right from the beginning, this book was high-octane. I was on the edge of my seat, and my anxiety was high wondering what was going to happen next. As things went from bad to worse, I honestly couldn't possibly imagine a situation where they would pull through. I knew going in that whatever was going to happen in this book, the Morelli family was never going to be the same again.

One twist and turn after another, Finch and Luca work together to finally - finally! - put everything in place to ensure their safety and security. Well, about as safe and secure as they can be, in any case. They ensured that the Morelli Family as a whole would thrive. And thrive they will, it seems.

And while the future of the Morelli Family seems bright, so too does the relationship between Finch and Luca. The dynamic of their relationship changed over the course of this book, for the better. And I really enjoyed watching them grow together and strengthen not only their relationship, but their connections with the members of the Family, too.

There are a couple of loose ends left to tie up, and thankfully we have a concluding novella that will seemingly help with that.

One thing that I have liked about this marvelous book series is the writing style of having one chapter end in the POV of an MC and the next chapter picks up the same scene in the POV of the other MC. I like that. At first, I thought the chapter end was fading to black and was relieved that the scene continued, sometimes in the POV of the same MC. It’s a clever writing technique and enjoyable to read. That said, THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME!! I was thinking this one would be about another wonderful new couple, but it brings the series back to the original and best couple, Finch and Luca. Their love is amazing, their chemistry still combustible. This is a memorable MM romance couple. I am grateful that I read this series, after seeing it for a few years, but focusing on some negative reviews and not being too into Mob romances. I read the short story about Hudson and Gio recently at Prolific Works and very much enjoyed it, Finch and Luca were good characters in it. It took awhile for me to connect that the well written short story was about the same characters in the Mafia romance book. I have enjoyed every page, every scene, every kiss, and every heartache. MM romance opens the most interesting doors in reading, if you give it a chance.
All the stars for this one! 🤩

Luca & Finch D’Amato.

As nice as it is to meet the significant men in Luca circle — Angelo Messina & Bax Flynn, Aidan O’Leary & Teo Vitali, Gio Carlucci & Hudson Taylor, AND Nick Fontana & Carlo Bianchi — it’s so much more satisfying to return to Luca and Finch. Nice satisfying conclusion with this one. The author intended it to be the last of the Morelli Family series before spinning off to a west coast mob series set in the same world. But then she teased that there may be more Morelli stories to tell, after all. I’m good with that.

Finch, who has always been my favorite character in this series, really comes into his own. Stepping up to stand for Luca while he is injured and not stepping back into the role of pampered partner when he recovers. Finch wants to be a full partner, no longer sheltered from family business. He is as formidable as Luca in his own right, and there is nothing either of them won’t do for the other.

Love that Finch’s pink hair made a reappearance. That as much as other events lend the “full circle” satisfaction with the ending. Great book. Great series. Book 1 for me for 2022.

Whoo!! Back with Finch and Luca, this book was a humdinger! I half felt like I watching something like National Treasure as they followed the clues wherever they led to figure out the mystery!

I got to 25% and I let out a screech that shocked my cats when someone returned, and I was cheering my head off like a mad woman! I freaking loved this book so much. Luca is on the edge, losing himself in his fear for Finch. And Finch is determined to show his man that although Luca calls him an Angel, Finch is more than prepared to go dark for Luca.

The relationship between these two is damned near holy, and seeing them become closer and stronger together was a delight. The sex was, as always, hotter than hot (the scene in the alley in Rome!!) but more than anything, the connection between these two is like two souls that have found their other half, and after a few bumps in the road, are realising just how perfect they are for each other.

Book 5 still remains my favourite, but this is coming a close second. I still can’t believe Leighton Greene has managed to keep up this standard of writing this far into the series – that is some serious talent!

Thank you to Leighton Greene for providing me a copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

After a devastating attack on Finch and Luca’s home, the two must rebuild relationships and hunt down information so they can punish those responsible.

Michael Ferraiulo, as always, was a dream to listen to. His ability to give each character their own voice is perfection.

This is the 6th book in the Morelli Family series, and it was such a satisfying conclusion to Finch and Luca’s story. The book was longer than the others but could be broken down into three acts, recovery, discovery and retribution. Packed full of drama, spice and action I could barely stop listening till it was finished.

Final thoughts: While there is a final book in the series, this certainly feels like a beautiful conclusion.

Who would enjoy this: Fans of contemporary romance with mobster protagonists. I would strongly recommend reading the entire series before this one to avoid spoilers but at the bare minimum read books one and two.

I really wanted to enjoy this more, especially because I went nuts over the first few books in this series. Luca and Finch are such brilliantly created characters and their story is one I’ve treasured because of how different and exciting it is.

For me, this story felt like it was too many loose ends coming to head. It was so plot heavy, the culmination of all the other threads woven into earlier books, coming together - and I was just a bit bored. There was a tinkling of angst between Finch and Luca amidst it all that I thought might lead to some great angst but it switched into the direction of history about Finch’s mother and I was disappointed yet again.

I skimmed the second half of the story so I could find out how it ends but it just didn’t have the high heat or focus on Finch and Luca that I’d been hoping for. So although it wasn’t terrible or bad, I just didn’t find myself engaged and have to give it a 3. :(

I could not help feeling like I was reading a story that reminded me, not exactly but tangentially, of the godfather. The protected character, the guy that is worked around to keep him safe and out of things rises up and let's us know all that he has learned just by being in the mix and observing. Finch reminded me of Michael Corleone coming into his own to protect his loved one. In Michael's case it was to protect his father. For Finch it was to stand beside his husband Luca and to make sure he did everything in his power to keep them on this side of the grave. These guys were the definition of a power couple as they brought all they knew to bear to uncover and deal with their enemies and grow more as a couple as they handled their business. I have only read a couple of books in this series but this one reminded me that I want to go back and get caught up. It was so good!

I love this series and while this is another great story I’m also sad since this is suppose to be the somewhat end of this series. I think I’m almost in mourning because there will never be another Finch. And while Luca is outstanding in his own right, Finch just has that something that is irresistible. Throughout each story the connection between this pair is so strong. I think the author did a great job of creating another situation that put these two in jeopardy and brought out their personalities but also described bits of what brought them here. I liked how Finch is not the arm candy, rather able to step up and protect Luca. I enjoyed how Luca prioritized where Finch fit in his life compared to the “family” and also Finch’s fidelity to Luca. Even if they appear in other stories it won’t be the same as books devoted to them.

A fitting closure to an amazing, action-packed series!

Luca and Finch are two of my favorite characters in this series and I love how their story has been created. They are two strong characters who just makes perfect sense to me. They each bring importance in the grand scheme of things and this will be greatly tested in this final installment.

Action-packed as we see them travelling to several places in order to unearth secrets and finally rid themselves of their enemies. The appearance of our beloved characters from other b0oks is refreshing and so very welcome.

I love it when all the characters are together, in whatever form, but with this one, we see them uniting for their beloved family. Overall, the Morelli Family is just awesome. I know this might not be for all but for me it is perfect!

Never give up, never surrender! Luca and Finch are facing the crisis/challenge of a lifetime. After Luca's near fatal injury, the married couple go through a series of events that demonstrate the meaning of keeping the marriage vows. They are challenged so that they demonstrate their love and devotion to each other and their best selves. There are lots of twists, turns and questions asked and answered. No matter what, the author draws a canvass for the reader that allows us to see the depth of love these men feel for each other. Lots of action and intrigue. This story grips you as Luca and Finch look for answers and battle for their lives, their futures. The author did an excellent job, leaving the reader satisfied while teasing a love for the potential of new characters. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily seeking a review.

Final books in series are always hard to read for the simple fact that I always love the characters and the worlds and don't want to say goodbye. This book is 100% that case, even with the cameo possibility in other series.

"Devoted to the Don" brings everything full circle. The characters from the books get their HEA's (mostly) and have grown into stronger and more resilient characters through "everything" that happens throughout the series. This book focuses of Luca and Finch. I think this is my favorite book with them. This book has a lot of action and drama and they grow as a couple and as individuals and end the book stronger than ever.

I listened to the audiobook and I think it might be my favorite performance of the series by Michael Ferraiuolo.

I received a copy of this audiobook and this is my honest opinion.

This is a story about Finch and his husband, Luca, a mafia Don. Finch has been trying to stay out of the family's criminal world, but that world has caught up to them. Luca's life is now in danger, forcing Finch to step up and fight to protect him. Their dangerous journey to defeat their enemies will take them from New York to Italy. Along the way, they will uncover secrets and question who they can trust.

I loved this story which was a tale of love, loyalty, and action as Finch proves he will do whatever it takes to save the man he loves. There were many plots (some related and some only associated) as well as major levels of danger and drama. I loved that throughout it all Luca and Finch found ways to work together and strengthen their relationship. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
