I'll be quite honest and say that the only reason I bought this box set (which only counts as one book not five) was because there was a picture of Abingdon-on-Thames looking along the towpath towards St Helen's church. Not one mention of the town which I found a little disappointing. All the places mentioned do exist though one has had a bit added to the name. Of the five books I found three ok one not keen on and the best one was the last. The first read fine and I liked the amount of mystery and romance in it, I might add I have read no mystery but plenty of my wife's romance books the next four books made my eyebrows raise with the amount of quite explicit sex in them(DI Hilery Green series are not like that). Once I got my head around it I got on Ok with then. Only book I felt let the whole lot down as the Third one or I would have given four stars
Overall, these stories were enjoyable except for the sex scenes...I don't think they were necessary, not romantic either.
The mysteries were entertaining while the the psychological aspects were intriguing.
The best thing was the writing style; good flow, fast-paced and easy to read. I skipped through some scenes. I don't think the males were portrayed favourably - virtually bullies (main protagonists).
There was a great sense of place and a opulence through every story.
Worth a look though they were more sex than mystery.
Descriptions and characterizations are well done. Stories present plenty of twists. But the series feels and reads like a romantic suspense written in an earlier Era. If it wasn't for references to modern technology, I would think that was the case.
I have immensely enjoyed all of the author's Hillary Green and Jenny Sterling mysteries. Now, I am stunned with this collection. What an amazing versatility of writing styles!
As I said the author is excellent at writing suspenseful books - but why do we need to know all about the characters sexual intercourse? To me it is completely disgusting and therefore I skipped all those pages! Totally unnecessary!!!
I have read a number of Faiths books and enjoyed them, but although the writing was good, I didn't feel any suspense in the stories. The characters were good and interacted well together in all the stories, I just didn't get the mystery in them.
Amazing! I hadn't read this author before however I will be doing again I just couldn't put it down I was in the edge of my chair at ever page turn Absolutely fabulous
These stories are great! If asked which one I liked best I couldn't say because it would be an injustice to the others. Wonderful writing and good reading!
It took me a while to get through this series, my own fault, they have mainly good storylines, but , at times, just a bit too much on the "romantic", parts for me. I prefer more the mystery than the other.
