Can I Tell You Something?

It's not a party unless Draco Malfoy is there. He's so fun! So wild! So crazy! So many drugs! So many drugs. Too many drugs? Harry's starting to think it's probably a lot too many drugs.

This is not a drug addiction recovery fic, although there is a drug addiction recovery.

Feat. character development through wide-eyed MDMA trips and Draco Malfoy finding peace as a burlesque dancer.

Gah wow!!!! Something about a Galla fic is always gonna do it for me every single time. I’m dwindling down to my last couple in her collection, but I’m so glad that I read this. The story takes us through a number of years where Harry and Draco first meet after the war. Draco is struggling with addiction and focusing on just having a good time. But when he finally decides to sober himself up, that’s when his friendship with Harry really develops. Hari is so sweet and supportive and kind and literally just wants to be in Draco‘s orbit. Having hurt people before, Draco is really cautious to pursue anything romantic, but is still a really good friend too. I loved how surprisingly tender this was and the writing was so good and so funny too. I love Galla fics!!

I think I finished this while playing pool and forgot to write my review afterwards. Whoopsies. Galla doesn't write bad fics, so of course it's funny and brilliant. I think it would hit harder if I was an addict/knew an addict. As is it's still full of hope and inspiration (it makes me want to see a burlesque show of all things and maybe try MDMA). It's not one of my favorites of hers, but it's good bc it's hers, so there's that. I'll probably come back to this once I've exhausted the Bucket List and Dad Says again.

I especially found the first view chapters pretty good. I somehow like when characters are high out of their mind. I favored high Harry and his broomstick escapades to high Draco. But of cause, Draco was also really well written. Especially the "I'd rather be happy than... narratively compelling." hit hard. But also, yes, defeat a serial killer with nipple pasties, slay queen, I guess. (Ps. I quite like Lucius, aggressively and rude, supporting Dracos burlesque dance career.) (Pps. I love their (probably pretty spoiled) cat.)(I also listened to the bonus chapter and "The case just comes alive and then you know kidnaps draco" is just so funny)

Loved loved loved this fic. First fic I actually want a binding of. And I don't normally buy books anymore.

Loved the communication in this book. Despite Draco hating talking about his feelings, there was quite a lot of very deep communication, which I adore.

It had humor. It had angst. It had Draco hating himself and grappling with his past. Harry was amazing while still having his own issues. Many people had issues, actually. It was realistic without being overwhelmingly depressing.

And there wasn't a magic fix all at the end Draco still struggled with addiction and communication. But he did better, and kept showing up every day.

The relationship with Michael was done sensitively without bad mouthing anyone or giving easy answers. It rang true.

Ugh, super in love with this fic. So sweet.

Loved it even more on my second re-listen.
