3 Estrellas!

First, I have to say that I loathe the title. I mean anything with the word Billionaire in it...that being said, I really enjoyed the book. Classic LMR, yeah; and a new series about hunky ex-military guys who run a top-level security organization. (Yes, it sounds rather like Midnight Man). There were a few issues with the story; but I was so happy to get my hands on a new book by a fave author, I won’t complain.

I worried a bit about packing a story in two days time with a HEA; but as always, Rice pulled it off. Great romance, great action, and probably the strongest female character Rice has ever written. I’m not going to lie, LMR books have a certain formula and similar types of lead characters; but it works for me.

Thank you to Amber for the loan...

I found the characters similar to those in Midnight Man but they have been changed to make them more palatable to today's readers

Like John Huntington in the original Midnight Man, Mark Redmond is a retired special ops guy who started his own private security firm. Pretending to be a boring salesman, he becomes fascinated by Harper Kendal on a flight to Europe and, despite the fact that beautiful Harper is usually bored by businessmen, she is surprisingly, and wildly, attracted to him as well. They have sex. (LMR's sex scenes are, as always, great.) They go to the Louvre. There is a terrorist attack. Mark, with assistance from Harper, saves the day.

I read everything by LMR. My favorites were the original Midnight novels--Midnight Man and Midnight Run. I think these were the most powerful LMR stories with prototypical Alpha Males. Like many romance writers, Rice keeps changing the personalities of her hero and heroine to fit the characteristics that are currently popular with readers. Thus, Mark is a more politically correct, and less pushy and domineering version of John Huntingdon while Harper is more courageous and pro-active heroine than the gentle and rather fearful Suzanne Barron---Harper insists on helping Mark take down the bad guys despite her own fears.

I have mixed feelings about these new characters---and I don't even know that it really is the difference between the personalities of the people in the old vs the new novels. I thought that the John-Suzanne attraction and coming together was much more intense than that of Mark-Harper so I didn't like the novel as well. The novel was also more straightforward, less complex, and substantially shorter than Midnight Man and shorter than the length I prefer to read. Maybe that was a factor as well. Still, I liked the book. Just not as much as the originals.

The reason for the one star is the author chose to have the H and h hide in a secret room while a whole group of families is murdered right outside. Knowing this, the H and h still have sex in the room. I was so disgusted, especially when you know that the victims include children. The Middle Eastern terrorists seem to be the go-to theme for this author when it comes to villains lately. I hope she gets more creative with her storytelling. I miss her earlier work.

The author provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review

So ... the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this book is: Why does a guy like Mark never sit beside me on a flight? Why my God?
Imagine the scene: you are leaving for Paris to advance in your dream of getting rid of your idiot boss. Then you find yourself sitting next to this hot guy, but who works in a job so dull, that just thinking of it, gives you sleep just thinking. You expect that he will be inconvenient the entire flight, just not, and you end up agreeing to have dinner with him when you land in Paris.
After an unforgettable night, he convinces you to let him accompany you to the Louvre, and when you face the worst terrorist attack after 9/11, you find out he did not have the boring job he said, more than that in fact, he is all you and the hostages needed at this time.

I love that we are getting the old LMR H back, strong, passionate and above all respectful. I enjoy this story, it had the LMR teeth clenching thriller suspense, the big powerful H that saves the day, and the gentle but strong h that stands by his side throughout.

An exciting read, with an "ah lovely" ending.

After a long time, I've read such a gripping book from this author.
Even the book is fairly short and covers the span of merely about 48 hours, the kind of intensity that the author has created within the limited space is amazing.
You feel for everyone and you can't wait to read the next page already.
That is what a romantic suspense is about.
And the author made me love Mark and Harper, both in equal measure which is a feat.
Usually one overpowers the others and that happens easily in a romantic suspense that one of the characters steals the limelight.
But it is commendable how both of them have been given a central role.
Loved it.
I hope I get to read the next part soon!

Review Copy from the Author

Charade: Her Billionaire - Paris is the first volume in the new Lisa Marie Rice trilogy titled Her Billionaire. The two next volumes will be titled Masquerade (Venice) and Escapade (London). I don’t have any other information on these titles for now.

I’ve been waiting for new Lisa Marie Rice titles for a long time because I love this author. The cover of this book surprised many (LOL) but I want to reassure you straightaway: Charade is well and truly an usual opus by the author.
We see the hero, Mark Redmond: alpha male, protective, possessive, determined to keep the heroine. The difference here is that he’s posing as a boring businessman. I was by the way a bit afraid of the heroine’s reaction when she discovers the hero’s true nature but I should have trusted Lisa for her character to act as she should. So I wasn’t disappointed by the reaction.
Our heroine, Harper Kendall: not TSTL at all, aware of her abilities and her limitations, she quickly accepts her feelings for the hero, she is also nice and sweet.

I had a huge surprise concerning the plot which takes place in Paris. Not because the action takes place there but because of what happens when the heroes are there and the reason why they find themselves in danger. I won’t say more on this and I let you discover why I was surprised. What I can reveal is that the action is darker than usual and several years ago with this thread the French readers would have rolled their eyes.

As for the love scenes, they take mainly place at the beginning because after that the heroes grapple with danger. The short story format doesn’t allow long descriptions, what’s more Lisa Marie Rice really focuses on the resolution of the suspense.

To conclude I’d say my review is short LOL. But it’s mostly because I don’t want to reveal anything about the action of the book. ;-)

Really?

In a terrorist attack, the glass pyramid of the Louvre has been blown up, the terrorists have massacred hundreds, if not thousands, of Louvre visitors and are holding men, women and children hostage inside the Mona Lisa room as they attempt to negotiate with the Paris police. Explosives sufficient to destroy the entire Louvre are strategically placed throughout.

Our hero and the gorgeous women he met the day before are hiding in a narrow “secret” passage space just outside of the commandeered room. Thanks to a backpack filled with high tech spy equipment that he somehow managed to get through Louvre security, our hero communicates with a high level team who strategize a resolution to this seemingly “no way out” situation. So, what do our hero and his gorgeous companion do while awaiting further instructions and hiding mere feet from the extremist heavily armed commandeers on the other side of the wall? Well, they have hot sex, of course. Really?

Me gustó.
Recomendable.

CHARADE will get your heart pumping, then it will leap right into your throat as the action escalates to a dangerous hostage situation. A chance meeting on a plane brings romance and danger for Harper Kendall and Mark Redmond. He isn't exactly what he seems to be and a situation arises that makes her more than glad that he isn't. The museum they are touring is attacked by terrorist and Mark knows how to handle a hostage situation.

This is an action packed, fast paced read that gives us the mysterious hero, stand up heroine and danger that we expect to find in author Lisa Marie Rice's books. The romance part might have been rushed but the action, dialogue and descriptive writing style will thrill all her fans.

As a new series beginning, I think this one holds a lot of promise!

WOW!

Smart sexy intriguing I don't think I have enough words. Mark and Harper meet on a flight to Paris. Feeling a mutual attraction they spend some time together and he goes with her to the Louvre to do research for a book. He said he was a plumbing supply salesman but when they get fought in a terrorist situation she learns he is much more. They are both intelligent people and their chemistry is electric. Their characters are b oth strong and once they have committed they are steadfast in support of each other. I don't want to give away any of the story so I will just say I enjoyed it very much and recommend it. I haven't read this author before but I will surely be looking for more of her books.

2.5. I would have given this a higher rating except for one scene that was just wrong. The MC's end up trapped in a secret room in the Louve after extremists have stormed the museum killing dozens of tourists and holding many more captive right outside the room they are hiding in. Apparently, the MC's are so attracted to each other and so horny, that even though a blood bath has taken place mere feet away from them, they can't keep their hands off each other and have sex while the hostages who survived are being terrorized on the other side of the wall. Huh?

I did like the creative setting and action in this book and the fact that the heroine stays calm and doesn't freak out under pressure but I'm not a fan of the "insta-love" trope which had then declaring their love after 2 days.

I love Lisa Marie Rice and her alpha males! She so did not disappoint with this novel. :)
Here we have Mark, former military man, now security business magnate, meeting Harper Kendall on a flight to Paris. It's insta-lust for him, and all he knows is he cannot let Harper go, that he has to spend as much time as possible with her. The attraction is mutual so they end up having dinner once in Paris. Then more. And he realizes he want more from Harper and he'll do anything to keep her in his life.
All his carefully thought-out plans on how to woo her come to a halt when a bunch of terrorists decide to create some mayham during their visit at the Louvre.

Charade is another amazing romantic suspense by LMR! Mark and Harper are both going on individual business trips when they bump into each other on their way to Paris. Mark is someone who can handle himself in all types of situations and Harper is trying to close one project to start another. The chemistry between these two is hot and just when you think all is going well…. Well, you are just going to have to read to find all the suspense and heat that LMR brings. I love the super strong hot men and smart women who bump into them!
