East Coast Devils #2

The Devil's Deal

Rate this book
“I’m not your savior. I’m not your knight in shining armor, and I’m certainly not your guardian angel. I am the Devil, and any favor I do for you comes at a price. So, I will ask you this: Do you really want to be in debt to the Devil?"

I find her at a mobster's house.
An angel with her wings clipped. Bloodied and bruised and praying for a third chance.
Yeah, third.
But God doesn’t send her a knight in shining armor.
No, he sends me.
The Devil.
And before I slaughter South Africa’s most-feared diamond dealers and free the angel from her cage, I have to ask her:
Do you really want to be in debt to the Devil?

This was one of those books I picked up for the vibes, and it mostly delivered. You've got your morally gray hitman (Cillian), a tense forced proximity setup, and a whole lot of heat. Definitely a dark romance — think possessive guy, high stakes, and plenty of steam.
I liked the chemistry between Cillian and Dahlia. It’s intense right away, and the banter has that sharp edge that makes these kinds of books addictive. Dahlia wasn’t annoying, which I appreciate. She had her moments of strength and wasn’t just a background character.
It’s the kind of book that’s perfect if you’re in the mood for something dark and spicy but don’t want to commit to a super deep or emotional read. It’s fun, it’s fast, and it scratches the “bad man, danger, lust” itch — but it didn’t totally blow me away.

Cillian and Dahlia's book was great. I enjoyed their chemistry and their attraction. I enjoyed seeing Cillian break all his rules for Dahlia. This was a great followup to book one. 4 stars ~Ratula

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the East Coast Devils series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Life has a way of kicking you when you're down Dahlia is bleeding, eye swollen shut, dirty hair, not eaten in 3 days, naked, she has been kicked, punched, choked and drinks water from a dog bowl begging him to help her as he is her last chance at coming out of the situation alive. Cillian sexy as all get out devil, I mean that in every sense of the word you don’t want someone like him after you), has his limit and seeing the woman chained and abused is his limit. He is delicious in every way but also deadly in every way, controlling, dominating and very intimidating. However, with the way these two met can there be anything more especially now that Dahlia has found trouble again or should I say trouble has found her and her controlling man is needed but keep in mind her savior is far from a hero (in fact the total opposite) he is a sexy as all get out devil in disguise and payment will be do 😊. These two sizzle with chemistry through their push and pull, the banter is hilarious we all know she will fall for the devils charm or will she fall considering what she has been through, is there happiness on this path?

Generally speaking the book was a very good read. I read the book that preceded this one which is a must before reading book 2. Cillian's backstory and relationship with the Quinn's is a big part of book one. He is a sub-character, but a very important one and has a very important role in Lorcan and Poppy's story.

I loved his character in this book. He was the brooding, heartless freelance hitman that had carved a life for himself after being set free from the Quinn Mafia family years before. He was still very close with them and was referred to as "kid" and remained a devoted friend and warrior for the Quinn family. It was a wonderful turn of events after reading book one to see him come into his own.

Dahlia/Lottie's character was a bit more challenging for me to embrace until half way into this story. Cillian finds out she has connections to "Lucky" the head of the Philadelphia Mafia and eventually finds outs that her ex-husband is a Santiago. Once she finally tells Cillian the complete truth, her character took a positive turn for me. Prior to that I felt she was flighty, immature and unpredictable when it came to making horrible choices when it came to men, not once, but twice. Taking the advice of her therapist or so her character says, she threw everything to the wind (including college) to jump on the back of a guys' motorcycle she knew nothing about so she could live in the moment. She became a victim with two different men, never quite grasping the reality that both of these men were deadly men until it was too late. I gave her character somewhat of a pass because she lost her parents so young, but you can only blame youth for so long. Her ability to infuse some common sense into her decisions through parts of this book, seemed like it was lacking.
She eventually comes around because Cillian (her white knight) actually comes through for her.

The storyline had a few credibility issues for me, i.e., a Mafia don expecting a waitress/college student from a diner could actually come up with 8 million dollars when she doesn't deliver the red diamond. Lucky's character was beyond stupid when he sends in an ill equipped girl to pull off the diamond heist of the century successfully. His character was as dumb as a rock. Needless time is spent in this novel while Dahlia spins her wheels trying to figure out how to pay Lucky the 8 million dollars.....really? Was a fairy godmother just going to give you 8 million dollars? Dahlia lived with a questionable roommate, and was barely getting by making her portion of the rent and buying food. This girl wanted to be a therapist and seemed book smart but lacked common sense in some portions of the book, until she didn't.

Cillian's and Dahlia's love story was a slow burn, tasty piece that was not only captivating but heartwarming. By books' end I was cheering for both of these characters when they found their hard fought HEA.

This series is excellent.

The Devil's Deal is the second book in this series. When I finished book one I wasn't going to read this book because Cillian, who this book is about, didn't have a very big role in book one and I didn't connect with his character, so I jumped to the third book. After reading the third book Cillian did start to peak my interest. So, I did backtrack and read book two, Cillian's story, and I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed this book. Cillian is a very in demand hitman and an excellent gardner. While meeting with a potential client he discovers the client is holding a woman hostage, chained to a radiator. Cillian goes to where she is being held to talk to her, she begs Cillian to help her escape. Being the hitman that he is, he kills her captors and flies her back home to Philadelphia. Well the rest is history, they form a relationship, have hot sex, and fall in love. And of course Lotte has a ton of secrets she is keeping from Cillian, including her real name. I don't read a lot of mafia romance, but all three books in this series was a five star read.

Wonderful story! It's packed full of suspense, danger and some interesting twists. Dahlia was a very likeable character and my heart really felt for her at times. I loved how she and Cillian were with each other. Especially their encounters and interactions in the beginning of the book. And speaking of Cillian, he was all kinds of deliciousness. Those naughty scenes were off the charts hot. Cillian was very in control and dominating and it made his character intimidating but compelling. I definitely could see what Dahlia saw in him. It was truly an entertaining read from the first page to the last and I loved loved loved the ending to their story.

I WANT TO BE USED AND DEGRADED BY MY LORD AND SAVIOR CILLIAN BLACK TOO

a fast-paced, steamy, forbidden story between a hitman and a girl in captivity. i absolutely love books where the hero tries to fight off his desires for his girl...the LOSS OF CONTROL, THE FRUSTRATION THE SWEET RELIEF WHEN HE FINALLY GIVES IN

the writing is so well-paced and narrated, the author is hands-down a great story-teller.

the characters could have been better explored with more depth and nuances, but given the pace of the story, i didn't let it bother me as such.

4 out of 5 stars!!!!

Wow Cillian is a sadistic man who kills the mobster holding Dahlia and frees her. Now she is thrown into a worse situation with being told she now owes 8million to lucky. She turns to Cillian for help only now she owes the devil and he will collect. will these two manage to stay together once Cillian becomes obsessed with Dahlia. Super steamy dark romance but so worth reading. Somme has written a great book with a great story line and great characters. I can't wait till the next installment of the series.

Life has a way of kicking you when you're down - a whole flight of stairs!
You never know what is waiting for you around a blind corner so it really does pay to do your research and trust your gut. The mammalian brain has kept humans alive for centuries so why question it? And when you do... be ready for the bad to happen.

Excellent story, emotional rollercoaster, great character development; definitely add to your reading list!

Ok, first I have to say I am totally hooked on this series and this Author's work. By sheer luck I was so lucky to find all three titles on offer and glad I snapped them up. My biggest issue was in my frenzy to read them I accidently jumped to book 3 from book 1 but really didn't mind the mix up but I guess some surprises were less spectacular reading about but certainly not deflated.

This is the next instalment of the Quinn Empire and the story involving Cillian Black's rise into the dark and romantic world of the Irish US Mafia world. Again, a wonderful mix of erotic romance, mystery, murder and mayhem but some outstandingly humorous moments through a fantastic character called Dahlia Rose. I simply loved the idea of Cillian's beautiful Garden of Eden being his safe place and how he used it to both centre himself and as part of his hitman's arsenal.
But love to see how a 'good' woman can shatter a man's existence.

Their romance was fraught with difficulties!
by sewsummore

After the death of her parents Lottie, also known as Dahlia in this story, vowed to live for the moment, and never worried about tomorrow. This lead to Dahlia finding herself in more than one spot of deadly danger. It was Cillian, a contract killer who saved her life and in doing so found his heart. Their romance was fraught with difficulties but somehow they survived and came out on top. This is the second book I have read by this author and will not be the last. This story had danger, romance and revenge! Readers of the "Devil's Keepsake" will recognize some familiar characters in this story as well.

The Devil’s Deal by Somme Sketcher. This is book two in the East Coast Devils series and like book one, I was hooked from the start. This is one of those stories you need to take the time to digest as you read, it left me captivated and engrossed in the journey Cillian and Dahlia found themselves in. I enjoyed the push and pull and finally connection between these two, their banter felt genuine, and their actions spoke to how they really felt towards one another as the story progresses. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to others looking for something full of steamy dark drama. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Even better than the first book in the series

We know Cillian as 'the kid' from the first book who saved Lorcan’s life.
It's dark, lots of ploit twists, smoldering chemistry and great pace. Loved it.

This one was quite a disappointment compared to the first one. Following are my reasons for it being that way.
A) Story was paced too fast. With the kind of backstories both characters had, it shouldn't have been this quick.
B) The Character arcs for both the leads fell flat on me. His might have been the shortest arc ever, but her's was a straight line. No character development at all.
C) Completely undersold trauma. The sheer amount of trauma the FMC goes through is a lot. But the aftereffects? Zero.
I don't think any person who's ever gone through what our fmc here has, will ever regain their sunshine personality. the way she does in the book.

Yet why have I given it 2 stars? Because regardless of the negatives, the book did not bore me and I finished it in one sitting.
And the dialogues. The dialogues were good. So that's why ✌🏼 stars.

This book was fine. There was nothing about it that stood out that made me go "oh yes, I love this" but there was also nothing that made me dislike it. At the end of the day it was just averagely ok.

I liked Cillian from the previous book in this series, and I really did enjoy seeing him all grown up and doing what he does. Dahlia was fine. She got herself into so much without realizing it, which made me feel for her but girl makes some bad decisions. Her and Cillian make a cute pair and I very much so enjoyed their interactions.

I think this is one of those times that I wish the story was a little longer and that the plot was a little more drawn out, but otherwise I'm not mad about this read.
