Commander Terra Rush has spent the last eight months mourning Gryffin, believing he died when his ship crashed. When he returns to her, broken and scarred from months of torture at the hands of the Foundation, it feels like a miracle. At first.
His unpredictable mechanical side, reawakened by the brutality he endured as a prisoner, threatens to destroy him. He’s lost the trust of the colonists. Has he lost part of himself as well?
Her need to protect her ravaged heart puts distance between them when they need to depend on each other the most. If the colonists are to survive, they need Gryffin to reunite the Nomad and stand with them…and he needs Terra’s help to do so. But time and tragedy have changed them both so much. Can they find their way back to each other before everything they know is destroyed?
Nemesis Nomad Series, Book 2 By: K.A. Finn Narrated by: Keith Michaelson This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I loved this series! I read them out of order and don't suggest it. I read book 3 and then went back and read 1 and 2. Now I have to re-read book 3 again so it will make more sense! Read in order! You will get more pleasure out of them. This is such an intense and action packed series with a kick-ass cyborg, a touch of romance, great characters that you can't help but hate or love, wonderful plot, and so much action that it is never dull. I love this series!!! Going to check to see if there is book 4! The narrator is tops! Voices, emotions, keeping the flow going, all CHECK!!! Wonderful job!
A very entertaining, interesting and engaging story. Full of action, suspense, romance, mystery, betrayal, secrets, emotions, revenge and so much more. There is enough going on that there is never a dull moment. The story is fast paced and constantly moving forward. Definitely worth your time and credit.
I would not consider this a standalone book. I did not listen to the first book in the series and I think I would have enjoyed this story even more if I had. Many times you can read the second book in a series and completely understand what's going on with no problem. For me that was not the case with this book. Even though the book drew me in immediately, It took me a bit to get the characters straight and get caught up in the story.
As well as a large cast of great characters the story is told through several POV's. Which just adds to the overall enjoyment of the story.
I need to go back and listen to the first book in the series to get the complete backstory and just for the pure enjoyment of it.
Keith Michaelson did a fantastic job with the narration. Nice voice. Very deep. Fits the main character perfectly. Clearly spoken. Nice even pace. Fantastic character voices. Different dialects and accents. Even his female character voices are great. Which is not something all male narrators can pull off. He made the characters and the story come to life through the narration. Very enjoyable
I was provided this review copy audiobook by the narrator, author or publisher.
Nemesis was a great story following the Namad, Hunter clans and Ex Foundation members strive for a better life of the Ultar. After the events of the first book the groups, which had always been enemies, have come together to protect what peace there is left and hold foundation attacks back.
When Gryffin returns from the dead, or at least Terra and the others thought he had died, he brings with him a world of mistrust and uncertainty. They know the Foundation are planning attacks and they need Gryffin to lead them but he has been brutalised and more cybernetics added to him after spending ten awful months with The Scientist.
Many relationships are revealed, scenes are are action packed and can love be found at the centre of all of this mess? Old enemies must unite to face the biggest threat, even if it slowly skills Gryffin to do it.
K.A. Finn had some huge shoes to fill as I loved the first story. And... SHE HAS FILLED THEM! Wow. It's a challenge to write the first book with an incredible mix to the story and then to follow up with a sequel at the same power. AMAZING! Well done K.A. Finn!
I think this is a wonderful space opera that all can listen to. There is personal relationships and struggles that appeal to the small need of romances but the story is much more than that. Their lives are driven by the world and actions of others, everyone's wants are affected and they have to fight for it all, and their own lives.
****FULL REVIEW**** *I requested to review a copy of this audiobook for an honest review from the author or narrator.
Ten months after the port was destroyed, the Foundation has built a new port. The Foundation is coming for Ultar and all who live there, but Ultar doesn't know when. The Nomads, Hunters, and ex-Foundation are struggling to live in harmony on Ultar but they know they have one enemy in common. Is it enough to get them to cooperate and work together?
Terra has worked hard to move past the terrible loss of Gryffin's death when the port blew, but she's starting to move on and maybe finding a new love in her life. When a shuttle lands on Ultar carrying the one person she thought she'd never see again.
He's been physically harmed further under the Scientists hands, but found a way out. All that's kept Gryffin alive these last months was thinking of Terra, escaping in his mind with her. But when he returns she is avoiding him, and he's struggling with the new array of emotions flooding him.
Okay, I loved Keith's voice in the first book and just him reading the title page made me smile and shiver. Yes, I love his voice still. I'm amazed at how great Keith voices all the different characters with different personalities and intonation. All like different people present with a large ray of emotions from each person. Keith feels to fit the characters perfectly, as if he's living through their lives. I could listen to this story over and over just to hear him!
K.A. Finn had some huge shoes to fill as I loved the first story. And... SHE HAS FILLED THEM! Wow. It's a challenge to write the first book with an incredible mix to the story and then to follow up with a sequel at the same power. AMAZING! Well done K.A. Finn!
We start in the here and now of the characters, which is 10 months after Ares ended. We do get a small refresher of the battle fought, but it's quick and full of information about where everyone is now as they live through the moment. No rehashing for us. Moving on strong with the next book, we go.
We get several POV's in the book. But there is NO confusion at all! Each person is off in a different part of the world seeing a different piece of the puzzle for us. This is a full cast to juggle, and K.A. Finn does an amazing job doing so. Each person is individual and influential on others, good or bad that's your choice. I love the strong personalities we get from all the characters. When they interact, oh some interactions make me smile because they clash but are sarcastic with each other. I have to say, Milla is my favorite here. She shines as the best doctor and strong mind. She has NO problem telling Gryffin as it is (not many do this, and live). She has a sense of humor that is truth at the same time. Her sarcasm with her patient, Gryffin, and his stubborn personality is perfect.
Oh poor Gryffin. Nothing ever works to the good for him. But he grows so much in this book. His world becomes more than just one step at a time. He's finding good things and people in the world, but with his circumstances...it just makes it harder. Gryffin is turning a new corner in his life, but it's new territory and going to make life as he knows it more complicated to maneuver through.
We meet a few new characters. Of these the one that sticks out for me is Garvan. He's a prison inmate that is freed. I'll leave it at that. lol. But he has grown on me. Though at times I'm curious about him...
We learn the secret to why the Foundation is backing the cyborg program. It's a secret, but we get to see things from that side. It's got something to do with Earth...
I think this is a wonderful space opera that all can listen to. There is personal relationships and struggles that appeal to the small need of romances but the story is much more than that. Their lives are driven by the world and actions of others, everyone's wants are affected and they have to fight for it all, and their own lives.
This book looks long in hours, but it's so short in listening. I never felt like I was ready for it to end. On the contrary, I was checking to see if there would be enough time to get to all I wanted to hear!
I'm drawn into all the characters lives, getting a great blend of worry for the characters on a personal level - will they live through the terrible events they find themselves in, will they finally admit their feelings, will the Foundation destroy it all with their terrible plans or will they destroy themselves with their attempts to save themselves. All realms of emotions here combine with adventure and danger.
I found I loved this story just as much as the first. Well written to keep us interested in all the characters as we worry over the bigger troubles too.
Nemesis by K.A. Finn is the second book in a series called Nomad. With ties to the governing organization, the Foundation, and Earth broken, and rebellious people of the colonies are free, for the time being. The Foundation soldiers who turned away from their corrupt government when they discovered a history of medical experimentation on children, now try to maintain colony defenses against the growing Foundation threat. The Nomad, previously the power rebel group disbanded when their leader Gryffin was presumed dead. The few remaining Nomad have now entered into an uneasy alliance with the rival group the Hunters and the former Foundation crew. Unbeknownst to any of his friends, family, lover and the rebels, Gryffin lives and is back in the clutches of the monster that turned him into a cyborg when he was just a child. All groups must find a way to work together to fight their way free of their captors or oppressors or else risk losing their homes and their lives. Meanwhile, Gryffin must once again try to come to terms with his past, his growing family ties, and his relationship with Terra.
I really enjoyed this novel. Within a few minutes, the plot from the first installment of this series came rushing back and I was completely engrossed. While the first novel needed to focus on world building and introducing the characters, this novel had even more time to focus on the growing cast of characters and their evolving relationships to each other. There are a lot of moving parts: tons of characters, different loyalties, and both good and suspicious characters on all sides. Everything fits together really organically, which makes it easy to love the relationships and characters. I really felt that each of the characters had been given a lot of thought and each stood out as a memorable component of the story, which helped back of my feelings for each of them. The plot is also exciting as it is filled with intense feelings, action, and good pacing. One of my criticisms for the first novel was the abruptness of the relationship between Gryffin and Terra. This was not an issue in this novel. The relationship was almost maddeningly real. As before there were a number of twists, which really added a lot of excitement to the story. The end is action-filled and made me groan when the novel ended. I just wanted to find out what happens next. There was a definite end to the story, but left a lot to be explored as the story progresses into the next novel. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
The narration by Keith Michaelson was excellent. As in the first novel, he really captures the tone of all the characters. The voicing for each of the characters, including accents and tone, is perfect. The production quality was good as well. I would recommend this novel to anyone who loves complex space based science fiction filled with rebels and fighting against the oppressive government.
If you enjoyed book one, you’ll definitely want to listen to this book. We learn more about some of our favorite characters and get to watch as relationships develop. Now I am impatiently waiting for Perses to be finished and for the audio copy to be recorded!
Nemesis picks up about 10 months after Ares ended with Terra mourning Gryffin’s loss. We learn right away that Gryffin escapes his captors but he is seriously injured so he sets coordinates for Altar (sp?) and passes out from his injuries. Once he arrives on Altar, everyone is shocked to learn that he is alive but they are also not sure if he can be trusted because they don’t know if he is in control of himself.
The Nomad, Hunters, former Foundation and even some Rouge all work and train together to prepare for taking on the Foundation and stopping the Scientist. We also get to learn a lot more about the Scientist and why he started on his project of modifying children to create cyborgs. He’s a fickle (and immature) little bastard if you ask me.
[SLIGHT SPOILER] This is a spoiler but it happens in the first few minutes of the book but you can skip over it if you don’t want to know. We learn that Bray and Terra developed a friendship that slowly lead to a relationship. When I first read this, I really didn’t like it but I guess I couldn’t expect Terra to stay single forever. And that bond they created during the months Gryffin was thought to be dead was important later in the story so I came to understand why K.A. wrote it that way. I’d really like to see Bray get a woman of his own because I think he deserves to be happy with someone. I’m just a loyal Gryffin fan so of course I want Terra and Gryffin together.
As you already know from book one, Keith Michaelson is an excellent narrator for this story. His Gryffin character has to be one of my favorites. I actually spoke with K.A. Finn about this and she said that Keith was her first and only choice for this series and I have to agree with her. His performance is the main reason I prefer audiobooks over traditional books.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Disappointing second installment to the Nomad series. KA Finn took a story of a dystopian earth future and turned it into a soap opera. The use of a double love triangle is beneath the rich characters developed throughout Ares. Finn took Terra, a strong and confident woman, and turned her into a petty teenager with no understanding for Gryffin's lack of ability to deal with his emotions. His brother's unfounded hatred is more understandable but still taken way too far before he get his head out of his arse. Chase running away at the first mention of Gryffin coming back was also so out of character as to come off as ridiculous and petulant. There were other ways to get the anger and tension that Finn was going for without sacrificing fundamental parts of characters' personalities and making everyone connected to Gryffin betray or lie to him in some way. Gryffin remained true to his character even as he suffered through trying to gain an ability to recognize emotions other than hate and aggression. I was even able to get through his why me moment. I loved the way Elena remained a steadfast and true friend and that Milla was her say it like it is self which Gryffin comes to appreciate.
The ongoing story line remains intact and progresses through this second installment. The Foundation is intent on making the outer sector a forced workforce to provide everything for the earth elites and they continue their search for Gryffin to understand why he is special among the cyborg test subjects. I liked the way the book ended and the setup for the third book. I may or may not purchase and listen to the next installment after the butcher job and discontinuity that Finn brought to most of the key characters in the second book. The three star rating is in large part due the excellent narration.
The narration remained top level and the way Keith Michaelson has given characters their own distinct voice and can do the range from Southern to Irish to Scottish to English is amazing to listen to. He can do each voice and has such an ability to bring the right emotions out at the exact right time and is truly a joy to listen to. He is perfect for this material.
Really enjoyed listening to more of Griffin and the Nomads! The story picks up 10 months after Ares, and life has become more of a struggle for colonists, Nomad, Hunters, and New Foundation, but when Griffin comes back from his kidnapping by the Scientist, the fight to come out from under the Foundation's control begins again.
I loved the way the character of Griffin was more developed in this book. He grew more human in spite of the machinery, & his relationship with Terra reached new levels that tugged at my heart.
New characters were introduced into the world that I am looking forward to reading about in the next book in the series. Gavin and Brae are going to melt my heart I just know it.
Solid hit with this novel, and can't wait until book 3!

This was a great listen. I do think that it's important to have read (or listened to) the first book in the series (Ares).
I would consider this book to be primarily a sci-fi suspense, but as with the first book, there is a little something for everyone. Action, adventure, romance, cyborgs, pirates and mystery all play a large role.
While the narrator is excellent, I do think that this book would benefit from an additional female narrator.

The writing is much better in this book than the first. The pace is steady and as in the first book, the narration is excellent. In this part there are more emotional battles fought than physical ones when all the secrets begin to be revealed. I look forward to the next book.

I love this series. K.A. puts her characters through so much and I'm rooting for them. It's a perfect blend of technology and romance, and my favorite part? It's in space!
