A champion. A pharmacist. An enemy who will stop at nothing to triumph in the Reckoning. Captured by twisted creations of an amoral scientist, ancient warrior Storm and cautious Persephone still can't trust each other. Storm lost his fated mate for centuries ago. He did not imagine he would find another, much less that they would find themselves imprisoned. Persephone's heart and mind have already been scarred by a lilim, one of the supernatural kins. Even as she hopes for a connection, she cannot trust Storm completely. Yet in order to survive, and regain their freedom, they have to work together, even as both fear the passion growing between them can only be temporary. Can their fragile bond guide them to freedom, or will their wounds doom them both?
The Reckoning occurs every few years and turns people who could otherwise be allies and friends against each other because of the side they were born into. Warrior Storm and Persephone can't trust each other. Storm did not expect to find a mate nor that they would be imprisoned. Persephone hopes for a connection but is not able to trust Storm completely. However, they must work together to survive and get out of there, even when both of them fear the passion growing between them can only be temporary. Can their bond lead them to freedom?
This book has it all. A bit of romance, a threat of violence, and plenty of supernatural characters. I definitely enjoyed it. Persephone is very damaged and fearful when we meet her. Storm is a fighter, and he’s determined to have her. A threat from Persephone‘s past has them fighting together for their lives. A wildly fun story.
The second book in the Reckoning series a well written story that kept me turning pages. There is mystery, action, drama, twists, turns, suspense, and romance. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book officially launches on the 29th so I’m going to hold off on giving my full review until then to avoid possibly spoiling anything, but I really enjoyed this book! There was only one thing that kept me from giving it a full 5 stars (again I’m not giving any hints at anything until the book has been released), but it was really really close.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
