Children of Fenrir #3

Bared & Betrayed

Rate this book
In this Montana town of Viking descended werewolves, there are secrets upon secrets.

In the name of protecting his family and his kind, Raul Anderson has made some terrible decisions, and even worse mistakes. Mistakes that got him bumped from First Verndari, to the bottom of the pack. Being blackmailed is no excuse, especially when he can't prove it. Now he has to work his way back up to the top of the pack so he can challenge the werewolf he suspects is plotting to throw them into a war with humans.

But that isn't his only problem. As punishment for his mistakes, he is sentenced to be a kennari—a teacher to newly bitten werewolves. His first charge is not only hotter than Helheimr, she's also the new detective the police chief has partnered with him to solve who is behind the unsanctioned bitings.

Elexis Sandalius will do whatever it takes to catch the werewolf that attacked and changed her—even accept a job as a detective in a town full of werewolves, and partner with a guy who bit another woman in without her permission. She couldn't dislike the sexy, cocky ex-quarterback anymore if he had been the one to bite her. Until it becomes clear he is not what he appears to be, and is certainly not what everyone thinks he is.

If they can't overcome their dislike of one another—and deal with their growing attraction—a mass murderer will not only walk but will launch their kind into war.

Fantasy & scifi in all their wonderful subgenres are my jam. Doesn't matter to me if it's indie or traditionally published, I read it all as long as it fits in those genres and piques my interest.

I'm also an award winning author~and aspiring to someday be a bestselling one. Life goals!~of paranormal, fantasy, steampunk, historical fantasy, and YA urban fantasy. When I'm not reading, editing, writing, or surfing my social networking sites, I can be found on the slopes, the hiking trails, or paddleboarding. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Elexis and Raul. They were my favourite. The bridge scene was my favourite part. I do hope there is more to come. 5*.

Bared and Betrayed is book three in the children of Fenrir. This book has one of my favorite trope feels… enemies to lovers. Oh, do I love a good tension between people!

This book confirms that I’m a fan of Heather McCockle. I once again found myself forgetting about adulting to get lost in the world that was created. I read three of the children of Fenrir trilogy in two days. TWO! That’s fast for even me so I hope that it shows how great these books are.

I loved the character of Raul Anderson, he’s a deeply flawed man. He makes mistakes, some bad mistakes that causes him to lose pretty much everything. But he knows he’s right that there’s a werewolf that wants a war with the humans. He needs to find a way to figure out what the hell he’s going to do. Then enter our badass heroine, Elexis Sandalius (what a name, right?) who took a job as a detective to try and stop what happened to her; happen to other women. Since there’s a rogue werewolf biting and turning without consent. Both dislike having to work with each other (we all know what that means 😉😉) but if they want to stop the danger on the horizon they must put their differences aside. But as the plot thickens so does their attraction and the looming threat of war.

After reading this trilogy I can confirm that I’m a fan, this writing is amazing. There’s Norse mythology, Viking heritages, supernatural, romance and spice. All together in one book!!! Stop reading my review and go get this trilogy. There is a possibility that you may lose sleep, get behind on adulting but it will all be worth it. 👏🏻🐺🌟

BARED AND BETRAYED, Book 3 in the Children of Fenrir series by Heather McCorkle is a fascinating multi-layered story. The weaving together of Norse gods and werewolf mythology is seamless and intriguing. It inspired me to delve into Norse mythology. Add in crime drama and the complications of Raul and Elexis attempting to forge a romantic connection within the structure of this complex world, and you have a rich, unputdownable story.

Viking werewolf mystery romance.

It's not as niche as it might sound. First and foremost, this is a crime mystery set in a small rural town. Yes, the crimes are werewolf attacks. And yes, there is a love story. And yes, Vikings are involved. But Bared & Betrayed can hold its own with any mystery or romance, paranormal or otherwise.

Bared & Betrayed focuses on the big-city detective brought in to investigate the packs and her local partner as they work to prevent future werewolf attacks on humans while also maintains the town's secrets. The mystery is complex and brilliantly developed. The characters are no less so; McCorkle develops their relationship from antagonistic to neutral to romantic at a fair pace, revealing layers of each's personality and backstory. The greatest strength, however, is the incorporation of Norse mythology. Viking immigrants who
brought their ancient religion with them provide a plausible explanation for Fenrir's children to be living in contemporary Montana. My only criticism is of the detective's attraction to her partner's "package" – it reads a bit contrived.

Overall, Bared & Betrayed keeps your adrenaline pumping and you turning the pages until that book hangover hits.

Wolf packs that have their backgrounds in Viking history was a unique take on this mystery romance. Raul has been degraded in the pack lineage due to things he has done and is now a teacher at the lowest level, instructing new werewolves. Elexis is one of those and she is looking for the jerk who bit her while also becoming one of the local cops. Raul and Elexis grow in respect and trust as they learn more about each other and see that rumors are so false. The characters are terrific, with great backstories, strength and determination. The storyline was well written with plenty of drama, danger, surprises, misconceptions, twists and romance. The search for who is trying to start a war between the wolves and humans is a nice subplot.

4.5 Stars for Paranormal/ Cop Plot
3.75 Stars for Romance

Bared and Betrayed takes place in Hemlock Hollow, a Montana town entirely populated by werewolves. We follow Elexis, a newly bitten against her will werewolf, and Raul, her guide into the werewolf life. They are both cops, and both looking to uncover why there have been a rash of unlawful turnings.
Elexis doesn't trust Raul from the start, seeing as he himself has bitten someone without permission. There are some enemies-to-lovers vibes, but pretty quickly they become tentative friends. This story is a slow burn, which I usually don't read, but the fast-paced plot made up for it. While I loved the mystery aspect, the romance was a little slow for me, but the pay-off was worth it in the end.

Mystery of the Rogue . . .

In this story of a werewolf pack descended from Vikings, Raul Anderson is sentenced to be a teacher to newly bitten werewolves, considered a lowly job and punishment for mistakes he made. His first student is a new detective the police chief has partnered with him to solve who is behind all of these “unsanctioned” bitings.

Elexis Sandalius is determined to catch the rogue werewolf that attacked and changed her. She actually starts to like Raul as she works with him. It is clear that she was misinformed about him. But if the pack can’t work together, the wolves could become embroiled in a war that will help no one. Can they find the rogue and stop him?

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Bared & Betrayed by Heather McCorkle. This is actually the third book in the Children of Fenrir series and I missed that when I selected the book. I did enjoy the read and actually would have given it three stars, but felt that had I read the previous books I would have given it a higher rating. My fault for not reading the cover. Entertaining and loaded with action, this series should be read in the release order.

Raul was a shifter and ranger stripped of his place in his pack but slowly making a comeback. Elexis was a newly turned against her will shifter and policewoman. Enemies at first as he was her new mentor with secrets, they began a comradeship and more through their work. This romance was confronted with danger, lies, secrets, intrigue, old Norse myths come to life and love of mates. Fun read.

This Series !!

My love for wolves and fascination with the Norse mythology brought me to these books and they didn’t disappoint !! From the first book to the last they have kept me enthralled and the ending of this one literally gave me chills (in a good way!) If you love Norse mythology combined with shifters (No there isn’t any reverse harem !) This series is for you !
Miss Heather this series is amazing and you are a wonderful writer ❤️

Rounded Up

An enemies (well disliked and distrusted) to lovers romance with a well crafted plot with several twists. Our female MC has more agency than the male who is a bit myopic.
3.5 🌟 rounded up.

Raul and Elexie are thrown together because both are searching for the rogue werewolf that bit Elexie, turning her into a werewolf. They get off on the wrong foot, mostly because Elexie was set up to believe the worst of Raul by a fellow officer. As they work together to find the rogue werewolf, Elexie starts realizing that past events were not as they had been presented. Raul and Elexie have amazing chemistry which becomes trust and respect as the investigation gets closer to the full truth of what is happening in the Packs. The inclusion of Icelandic mythology as current reality for the Werewolves enriched the story. The secondary characters are well developed and interesting. And the mystery has lots of twists and turns which kept me reading "just one more chapter". I highly recommend Bared and Betrayed, just do not start it right before bedtime!
