Life had never been easy for Caleesi Thompson. While struggling through college, she decides to take a position at a gentlemen’s night club in order to make ends meet. However, when she learns that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer, everything in her world seems to fall apart. But one night while dancing at the club, she crosses paths with someone special from her past.

Zack Warren had always been the problem child during their younger days. His behavior causes his parents to send him away in order to flee his troubles. But now that he’s returned, he’s determined to take over his family’s business. Zack wants no distractions while on his quest to become a CEO; but when he and Caleesi reunite, she seems to be the only thing he can focus on.

Their chemistry is undeniable, which ultimately leads to a relationship that neither of them saw coming. Before Caleesi can fully grasp the fact that she’s fallen in love with Zack, her mother’s cancer progresses, unfortunately claiming her life. Caleesi is completely broken and leans toward Zack for support as she falls into a dangerous depression.

But when their relationship suddenly takes a turn for the worst, Caleesi fears that rock-bottom is her final destination.

Kamal Wright had a tough childhood. Watching his mother endure physical abuse at the hands of his father has taken a toll on his mental health. His anger is so far gone that he’s been forced to consume medication in order to stay sane. Kamal, however, refuses the pills and trusts himself to fight the condition on his own.

When Zack asks him to accompany Caleesi’s best friend, Nique, on a double-date; Kamal immediately finds the new source of his mental peace. His anger has ran many women off in the past, but Nique is completely different. She’s patient, kind, and understanding to what he’s going through. She makes it so easy to trust her with his heart and that’s exactly what he does.

The fact that she also dances at a gentlemen’s club has no effect on Kamal’s feelings for her. But when she’s approached by a heavy hitter in the streets named, Spank, her occupation suddenly becomes a problem. Spank wants Nique to dance at a private party for him, but Kamal is uncomfortable with the entire situation. Despite voicing his opinion, Nique agrees to dance at the party, which causes an unexpected disturbance in their relationship.

Will love be able to save these couples from the turbulence they’re experiencing? Or will they be left empty beyond repair?

Spent

Monique (Nique) and Caleesi just could not catch a break, yet their bond as true sister friends was super tight. I loved that they had each other, even when times were super stressful.

Monique was a special kind of sweet. The way that she cared for and was patient with Kamal was one to be revered. She wanted to show him his worth and the peace she found in him. I loved that they built a true friendship without sex. It was a mental intimacy which is very rare.

Kamal had his own demons to face and I wish he would've done better to do just that. He was a tortured soul that had so much good going for him, yet he let his downfalls take him fully under. What he did to Monique was horrific.

Caleesi and Zack had a very special bond. I'm glad she let him in, yet the way she depended on him wasn't healthy. She was strong, and although she was somewhat depressed, she didn't let it pull her all the way into a dark space. Her mother and sister were wrong for looking down on her for how she made her money, yet I have a feeling her sister will get what is coming to her in the worst way😏.

Zack wants that extra good life. He's so blinded by success and taking over the family business that he's forgotten the most important key...Family. It was beyond selfish for him to do Caleesi how he did her. I'm not seeing how he can come back after that one, sheesh🤦🏾‍♀️.

Nyerra goes to some really dark spaces in her books; definitely be side-eying these plots and twists, yet it's all so good to read. I'm not sure how I slipped and found this one, yet I'm glad I did.

Good read. On to part 2.

Options!

Caleesi and Monique best friends work together and roommates. When Caleesi runs into Zack from her high school days a lot has changed. Caleesie and Zack hook up and Kamal and Nique meet and things seem perfect; however, each person has a past, insecurities, struggles mentally and financially. Caleesi’s sister and mother hate that she strips but Caleesi has a plan. So every visit to her mom means a lashing about her current career. Nique does not care where either her parents are. These 2 ladies are about securing their bag! Zack’s family is loving, wealthy and he wants the same things but he tells Caleesi from the beginning he does not want kids. His sister and brother have enough. Kamal is fighting demons from his mother and fathers relationship and he has replaced weed for his Prozac. Feeling each other strong each couple will come to a fork in the road and the will do it together or apart. When the opportunity of a lifetime comes up for the bff’s will make the best decision everrrr or is it?

Caleesi and Monique are two women determined to find their own way. But when life keeps throwing them curve balls they're one breath from giving up. Just when the ythought love was going to bring some balance to them, they're both hit with different levels of heartbreak simultaneously. Leesi and Nique get an offer that jump starts their new lives...only to be continued in Part 2.

It was all over the place towards the end of the book but, I am curious to know what happened with them. Did she ever run into Zack because I am pretty sure Jaz did not keep her mouth shut about it. And what happened with the Kamal situation? I have questions, other than those I am happy both girls got out the sticky situation they were in to find something better especially after her mom died.

I am so ready for part 2! Part 1 was a slow build up but I was hooked by the end. Nique and Caleesa both have me rooting for their happiness. Kamal was a loose cannon but at the same time he was crying outa fir healing. Zach fumbled badly.

Eh

Just couldn't get into it. Didn't seem to be going anywhere fast. Read 56% and gave up when Zack was having a conversation with his mother using foul language and calling women 'hoes'. She didn't correct him. I don't know where this is normal.

Really!

So, I thought the Warren men were something, to find out they were just the same old thing... Sadly the women in this story's struggles were real. I hope book two finds them happy and content. Lord knows they deserve better.

I can't wait for book 2! I need to know what happens after everything. I like Kamal & Nique's relationship more and care more about them than Lessi & Zack but I still need to know what's gonna happen.

Another new author to add to my list!

The friendship between Caleesi and Nique is awesome. They have each others back no matter what. Zack and Jamal have the same relationship. I'm glad I decided to read this book and buy Part 2 because I'm hooked! Going to read Part 2 now!

Stand alone in adversity

The book sets the stage for a great follow up. I feel that it explores the failures, struggles, and redemption that can happen to young women.

Such a mess from start to finish. Characters are undeveloped and hopeless. Absolutely hated the ending. It didn't makes sense for either of their personalities. Very ghetto. Not up my alley.

Great Book.

I loved reading this book. The main ladies were so hard working. I can’t wait to read part two. Good to also see some strong black male characters.

It was a short read, which, of course, ended on a cliffhanger. It was a nice read overall, though.

Good read

I almost passed this gem up. The main male characters were rat bastards. The main female characters pushed on and were not empty.
