He glanced at the dark corner of the lab, a type of breathing blackness that moved even when it didn’t, the very air and space and void of the darkness slowly expanding and contracting as the thing within it watched him. Theo flicked his wand, sending a key soaring toward the dark corner, clattering against the stone wall he could not see. Another flick, another careening key. Over and over and over again until one key going remained on the bench.
“A point for going, today,” Theo mused.
Without a care to the hour, and only modest curiosity about his destination, Theo picked up the key and activated it, hurtling himself somewhere, anywhere, but there.

❗️❗️Trigger warnings: depression, anxiety, abuse of alcohol, and some blood

I was not the biggest fan of Blaise in the main story, but I loved Theo, so I was happy to see more of him. Sadly, though, this version of Theo is not the bubbly and dramatic one we saw in Wait & Hope. In this novella, we see how lonely and depressed he is when he is alone in his estate, and how he is haunted by his past, and even a real demon/ghost.

This happens over the year Hermione loses her memories, and some events are the same, only from Theo’s POV, while others are new. This gives us a better insight into Theo and Blaise’s complex friendship.

It was also heartbreaking to see Theo try to care for everyone, but himself, and losing himself a little in the process. Thankfully, Blaise was there to support him and make sure he remained sane and kind of happy.

While this does not add much to the main story, it was still cute to see the romance between Theo and Blaise develop, and how they’ve been secretly pining for one another for years, but couldn’t or wouldn’t do anything about it. I am glad Theo will finally get his happily ever after.

I really like Theo’s banter with literally anyone and when he’s off doing whimsical things and was hoping to get to see a bit more of that… but this was still very lovely. Theo is a fave and he and Blaise are v cute

I was secretly hoping to have some Blaise POV even knowing that’s not how this goes, but one can hope right? It was a cute short little story that brings us through the years. Mostly a year or two but this was cute. I enjoyed it a lot and honestly could have used a second epilogue with a kitty. It was needed please and thank you.

There was something so soft and heartwarming about Blaise and Theo loving each other for years without voicing their true feelings to the other.

I've never read a fanfic about these two or from their POVs and I feel betrayed that not many exist.

Theo taking care of everyone but himself, repressing his feelings because he doesn't want to lose his best friend and struggling with guilt and depression. Blaise understanding what Theo needs without him having to say anything, taking care of him, waiting, longing, pinning for something he knows will happen with no idea when it will...

The writing was so beautiful, so heartbreaking at times and so heartwarming at others, raw and pure in the way it describes their feelings.

I wished this story will never end and I am glad I started the year with this read.

"Hey Blaise," he shouted as if he didn’t already have Blaise’s undivided, inadvisable attention. "Did you see that?"

Why am I smiling like an idiot? Haha glad you asked.
This spin-off takes place alongside Wait and Hope and not Beginning and End, and I preferred this plot, where the characters are more mature (to be discussed). This gave me a much-appreciated sense of familiarity.

In the absence of his sixteenth century jacquards, seventeenth century brocades, eighteenth century rugs, nineteenth century tapestries, and a twentieth century war-torn legacy: Theo opted for a twenty-first century beginning. And it required fire to be reborn.

Powerful quote. Put a smile on my face. A round of applause for the author please.

I'd love to have the repartee of a Slytherin. Unfortunately I'm a Slytherin and I prefer to stare at people nastily.

So many quotes for a short spin-off. But Theo is my little baby. I've grown attached to Pansy and her banshee screams. Even Blaise and his I-don't-care attitude have found a little place in my heart.

"Where the fuck are your elves, Nott? I’ve been wandering around for fifteen minutes just looking for you. Like a commoner."

A deep and thoughtful plunge into the breadth of anxiety, depression, and self doubt. Although a slower pace than the other works in the series, I appreciated the gravity and well-penned inner workings of Theo’s mind. The suspense into whether or not the character was “going mad” was handled well and I absolutely loved the dark surprise at the end, as well as the liberation.

This was my first time reading about anything Theo-pov. I really enjoyed it, I think the author did a great job incorporating the scenes we already read about in wait and hope into a new storyline! Thank you! -especially for the epilogue!

A Blaise/Theo novella in the guise of Wait and Hope from Theo's POV. This fic answered A LOT of lingering questions I had surrounding Theo, while continuing to leave Blaise as a bit of an enigma. Take that for what you will. I wanted there to be more, but understand why there isn't. I really enjoyed this fic. I also thought the epilogue was clever.
