Fair Fashion is the first book in the Earth Friends books by Holly Webb. The series contains strong themes about helping the environment and friendship. Holly is well known for her books about animal stories, but the Earth Friends series is about four human friends, Maya, Poppy, Emily and Izzy, who undertake environmental projects and have fun along the way.

The first project the girls embark upon is the result of a school project about Fairtrade. Maya is appalled to discover her favourite clothes are made by underprivileged children in factories with inadequate facilities. In the process of working on the school project, the girls decide they’d like to make a small but significant difference in the lives of other children. Meanwhile, Maya is also trying to keep her celebrity mother a secret. She dislikes the attention she receives when people find out her mother is a well-known singer.

This is a fun story with an important message about appreciating our privileges and using our influence where we can, to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

Overall, a hopeful read.

Middle grade. Fair trade. School project.

Story: Maya's mom is a celebrity singer and Maya doesn't want anyone at her new school to know. Maya and her friends are really into environmentalism.

Characters: Maya is a celebrity daughter who wants out of the spotlight. Emily and Poppy are her friends. Izzy is a quiet girl in their class who joins their group project.

Language: Near present, suburb or village, around age 10 - 13.

When I found out Holly Webb had written a book about fair trade, I had to get ahold of it. A fast read, full of substance and young girl social situations. A great modern book for the nosy crow collection. Recommend!

This should be compulsory for teachers to read to students centred around a group of year 6s in primary school focusing on a major world issue.

Fair trade awareness does need to be more widespread because if you'd have spoken to me before this book, I'd have had no idea that clothes were part of that industry.

This was the 1st book in the earth friends series. I'll definitely be buying the rest of the set now

'Fair Fashion' by Holly Webb is the first book in a new children's fiction series, Earth Friends. The series is four books, with each book focusing on one of four girls (Maya, Emily, Izzy and Poppy) and their friendship.
This book is about Maya, and a very good idea she has when the girls' class does a project on Fairtrade.
