When Kevin gets behind the wheel drunk after a night out with friends, that leads to tragic consequences. The ensuing car crash kills his best friend and seriously maims another. After spending ten years in prison for his crime, he believes he’s finally come to terms with the tragedy and is ready to try to put his life back together.
That all changes when he starts seeing the specter of the young woman he’d killed. And as she begins to reveal her secrets, one shocking revelation rocks Kevin’s world. Hoping to find both answers and some measure of redemption, he embarks on a perilous road, one that puts him on a collision course with a madman who possesses a terrifying supernatural power. Kevin will have to enlist the help of his old friends, even if they want nothing to do with him, in order to try to right the wrongs of the past and survive the danger that awaits.
Ephemeral Creatures is both supernatural thriller and poignant meditation on the power of love and loss, from the author of Remember Tomorrow.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but it definitely wasnt what I got. With links to Norse mythology and a very unusual antagonist, this was an surprising gem. The main characters are flawed-even the ghost, but they take on a battle despite this and get much more than they bargained for. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn't wait to turn the page. The only slight downside was the authors occasional use of middle English words which I had to look up the meanings of. This interrupted the flow of the story in parts but maybe speaks more to my ignorance than to the authors vocabulary.
2.5 stars. I received this free copy from Voracious Readers. I liked the main characters- Kevin,Lidia,Chad and Tara. I liked the idea of Lidia's "ghost" coming through. However - while I really appreciate a "good" evil/dark bad guy, I felt the character Hyrm/Volan was a little to contrived.I felt like there was 2 story lines that didn't jive. I also felt that the references to Lord of the Rings, Star Wars etc was a little amateur.
I received a free copy via voracious readers. Initially I wasn’t sure I would enjoy this , but was soon pulled in by the characters. I felt it was well plotted with a good rhythm I didn’t mind the lotr references at all as it fitted with 2 of the main characters
Gregory Mattix has written a propulsive, nostalgic ghost story. The characters are likeable and the cultural touchstones he uses brought me back to my own early twenties. I'll definitely give his other books a read based on this book.
