Bungie presents the Destiny Grimoire Anthology Vol IV: The Royal Will, a must-have collectible lore compendium designed and assembled for Destiny’s devoted and enlightened scholars and lore lovers, as well as fans of fantasy and science fiction storytelling.
Destiny Grimoire Anthology, Volume IV: The Royal Will, unravels the making and methods of two of Destiny’s most powerful monarchs? Mara Sov, the Queen of the Awoken and Oryx, the Taken King.
Through a curated selection of lore surrounding their legends, these pages explore beyond their storied rise to power and ill-fated confrontation among the rings of Saturn to reveal a deeper understanding of the mysterious Awoken and examine the very essence of Light and Dark. Includes download code printed on card for an exclusive Destiny 2 in-game emblem "Bibliomancy". Until now, the myths, mysteries, and machinations of the Destiny universe were found hidden throughout the worlds – enticing threads that hinted at a greater tapestry. The Destiny Grimoire Anthology weaves tales from multiple sources together for the first time, casting new light on Destiny’s most legendary heroes, infamous villains, and their greatest moments of triumph and tragedy.
I love all of the Grimoire Anthologies but I have a soft spot for a) the Awoken, b) Mara Sov, c) Uldren Sov, and d) the Mara/Sjur romance so this volume? is my favourite.
The lore is as interesting, the art is absolutely stunning and I'm so attached to these characters - all of which made reading this a delight.
So: 10/10. Good shit. Will reread again in the future - numerous times, most likely.
I love Destiny 2 and not the least of which because of how hard they go on their lore. This grimoire edition has Marasenna, which ties with the Books of Sorrow for my favorite lore book in the series. Doesn't hurt that Seth Dickinson wrote it, compared to the mastery of his own original writing with the Baru Cormorant series. If you like Destiny or just really well-written game lore check this one out.
Seth Dickinson's finest work is collected in this volume. The Taken Gift and The Marasenna are totally awesome space fantasy that has a real impact on the Destiny universe, with a personal angle that Destiny often lacks. The first half is mostly filler, D1 tiny lore cards and scripts from cutscenes, but pound for pound this is way better content than most grimoire volumes.
Mediocre first third was more than made up for by the enchanting Maresenna lore book compiling the rest of the anthology. If you don't read this lore, it's hard to conceptualise the paradise Mara's Awoken left, and her ultimate motives. If we one day get to visit the Distributary and meet Alis and Osana...amazing.
absolutely loved this lore book. I was not a fan of Mara having just played the game, but this book had me do a complete 180 on her. The history of the Awoken is so interesting, would absolutely recommend this read.
The fourth official volume in the Destiny lore series. Again, probably not the most sensible way to publish these, but the books are very nice to look at and you get a new emblem to go with it!
