Well, I should've listened to the title, instead of the super misleading reviews on here. This was...not good.

The art's okay, and it has a pretty cover, but there's nothing particularly special beyond that. None of the characters have much in the way of personalities, and the main couple has absolutely zero chemistry. I mean that. None. There's no indication, at any point, of why they might actually like each other, and there's zero effort put into building any type of relationship, friendship, anything.

We mostly see things from the point of view of Sudou, a handsome, rich, spoiled brat of a college student who has all the money and girls he wants, blows off most of his classes because he probably doesn't need a degree to get a job/make a living, and has a wide circle of friends he doesn't particularly seem to care about. The author's note says he was supposed to be "a trashy seme" but he turned out to be a "mischievous playboy" who might "actually [be] a good guy."

Nah. He's a trashy seme.

The story starts with Sudou already heavily engaged in bullying Kishi, a quiet, glasses-wearing, hardworking guy who's two years older than him and seems to spend like......all of his time in the lab. Seriously, I don't think he's ever seen anywhere else, except for a couple appearances at his home. He's a grad student, yeah, but he literally lives there? He sleeps on the couch? He doesn't even seem to go to class? The "plot" of this book is super weird?

Anyway, even though most of Sudou's professors don't seem to have a high opinion of him, according to Kishi's professor-boss, somehow he wound up working in the lab (?) for one of his classes, maybe, and then stuck around because he likes bugging Kishi so much.

The reason he bullies Kishi: the guy looks just like a "girl" Sudou had a crush on and asked out when he was in elementary school. The "girl," who is very, very obviously Kishi from the past, even though it's never actually revealed on the page or to Sudou, rejected him by saying, "I don't really care about love and stuff."

A decade and a half later, spoiled rich brat Sudou is still stewing over the only rejection he's ever experienced in his life, and decides to harass his classmate/coworker to make himself feel better.

After a while, and after a little prodding from a mutual friend (?), Sudou realizes this is the dictionary definition of pigtail pulling, and that he actually wants to sleep with Kishi. So he does. Regardless of how much Kishi objects.

And yes, this line is literally written on the page right before they have sex for the first time: "Mind if I rape you?"

Sudou claims it's a joke, but considering he then proceeds to have sex with Kishi despite Kishi's protests, it's...really not.

And their relationship never gets better from there.

There are some weird attempts at cute moments, like Sudou hanging out with Kishi's siblings and being folded into that family, which is ordinarily something I would really, really like. But even this setup barely makes any sense. Kishi's youngest sister is pretty little, but there's no indication that they even have parents. Who...is taking care of these children? He has three younger siblings and an older brother who seems to be mostly taking on the dad role, maybe because their parents are...dead? Not mentioned! Apparently not important to the story! ?

And I have no idea what happens with those younger siblings while the oldest brother is at work and Kishi is living in his university laboratory. That part didn't follow any logic either; when Sudou first sees Kishi's older brother, he gets jealous because Kishi is gazing up at the guy with a look of extreme blushy adoration, but Kishi later tells Sudou that he sleeps in the lab so his brother won't fuss over him. This is either avoidance (does he actually not like his brother?) or just uh...not helpful, because if he's trying to save his brother some hassle, he could go home and help him take care of the other kids.

The brother could've been a potentially interesting character, but he just...exists. He correctly identifies Sudou as a bully, tells him once to stop spending time with Kishi, and then doesn't actually do anything about it, although he continues to dislike Sudou. Honestly, he was right to be concerned; while there's some nonsense about how Kishi is more comfortable around people after he started sleeping with Sudou, it uh. There's no indication that's actually true. It's not like we see him getting any friends, or even hanging out with Sudou's wide circle of friends.

Even in the bonus chapter where Kishi goes to Sudou's giant mansion of a house for once, he meets Sudou's older sister and barely gets to speak to her because Sudou gets super jealous (of his married sister) and yanks his boyfriend upstairs after yelling at her and calling her ugly.

Nice guy, that. He sure seems to have a lot to offer.

But the thing is, Kishi isn't a particularly interesting character, either - and isn't written very consistently. Initially, he seems pretty level-headed and unflappable. He drives Sudou wild because he doesn't react to any of the dumb gags he pulls, like sending him flowers or replacing his lab coat with one four sizes too big, or stuffing his pockets with candy, or even tripping him and making him fall flat on his face on the floor, knocking his glasses off.

He drives Sudou crazy precisely because he doesn't react to anything. Except! Later on, Kishi runs into a few older classmates and winds up fleeing back to the lab to huddle in a corner and shiver and sob because it was so upsetting to see people who just wanted to say hi to him.

That was literally the extent of the interaction. And we get some backstory, as he cries to Sudou (who says mean things to him while wiping away his tears) about how when he started college, he was shy and got so nervous about talking to people that he started avoiding them and now can't interact with anyone at all.

So what happened to the guy who could get physically knocked on the floor and still be perfectly fine? How did he turn into this sobbing mess who freaks out when someone, intending to be perfectly nice, just says hi to him?? How are these the same character??

Honestly, this entire story was a giant mess from start to finish, even without the messy consent issues. What a major disappointment. Wish I'd read better reviews so I'd known to pass on this one.

So... was the seme pushy and not taking no for an answer? Yup. Does this story include dubcon? Yes, it does. Was the uke a weepy pushover whenever the seme was around? Yes, he was. And did I like it? You bet your ass I did. 😆

As much as people do not like old school yaoi tropes I eat them up for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I thought this story was cute and the drawings were gorgeous. It is a oneshot so you have to keep your expectations within reason. As in most oneshots the relationship does develops quickly but, in my opinion, it was handled well and felt mostly believable.

The title of this story is misleading (I have no idea where that title comes from...) but I still really enjoyed it. The physical book sold by Amazon is very well made with thick paper and a beautiful sleeve. 4 stars

This story was so adorable! I really enjoyed it though I was initially skeptical about starting it, what with a title like Sick. Was it a normal sick like when someone gets a cold? Or was it something darker and more menacing? Glad it turned out to be a really cute story that started out from elementary school type harassment (as they say in the book).

My only real complaint about this story is that it ends! I really wish it would have continued for longer but alas, it’s only one volume long. If it had continued it would have (hopefully) answered one of my more pressing questions, which is

UPDATE: OMG there's new chapters!!!

This was a pretty good read though I did feel like it was a bit rushed and I would’ve liked to see more interactions with Sudou and Kishi, but I did love the how Sudou acted around Kishi’s siblings; that was too cute! I recommend it if you want something good, spicy, and short to read.

This book was nothing but gratuitous rape. Ignoring a person saying no doesn't make someone a "dom" or a "seme." It makes them a rapist. Stop supporting stories like this.

Waaaaaaait! So, who's the little girl from the past?! Is it Kishi?? I'm assuming it's Kishi even though Tomo didn't confirm it! Because I'm a sucker for characters who met each other in the past and then meet again in the future! You know, fate!

And well, I mean, Kishi fits the criteria. Black hair, cute, quite feminine, and DISTANT! It will justify why Sudou can't let go of him too, aside from he looks like her. And this superiority complex of him. Anyway, I'm not comfortable with the rape joke (THIS IS SICK! no pun intended haha) so, I'm taking back one star! But yea, they are cute, I will admit that. And the art is 100% swoon-worthy. Dies of blood loss. Too many nosebleeds.

And if you want too much smut content, go for this manga, you'll like it. I mean they do it everywhere! I'm not really fond so I mostly skimmed over those parts, and I tell you, there's a LOT! But yea, overall, it's cute!

For a second I feared I would hate this manga, since its title is "sick". I was wrong!there is nothing sick here just romance and a cute couple.

With a title like Sick, I kept expecting something a lot more twisted than what we got, but I'm completely okay with this because these two were adorable together. Kishi softens Soduo, and Sudou encourages Kishi to step outside his comfort zone. It was nice seeing supportive friends and family too.

The cover attracted me so much and I was sure it was going to be a cute story. And it was! I don't know why it is called "sick" though. There is a bit of bullying at the beginning but not the kind I was fearing, not at all! Sudou likes to tease Kishi by switching his robe to a smaller one or fill his pockets with tons of candy. So instead of bullying, we have a kind of flirting that is more common in middle school, except that in this case, both guys are in college (yes, another plus! they are not teenagers!)

Another of his way to "bully" Kishi is to kiss him. Really, it was so cute. Pretty soon Sudou realizes he likes Kishi more romantically, and Kishi, who doesn't like people to touch him (I guess the title may refer to that condition) wants Sudou to touch him more. How cute when, after they both got off, Kishi fell asleep!

Kishi has several siblings, and his older brother doesn't like Sudou. It is there where the story may be a little too cliche, when the older brother asks Sudou to stop seeing Kishi. Like, huh? What were his reasons, besides having a brother complex? Luckily, it doesn't stretch much.

And another super plus is that the whole volume is about Sudou and Kishi. Which means that, in the first half they start dating, and then, in the 2nd half, we have them being boyfriends XD Lately I've been reading so many 2-shots yaoi manga, so this was a nice surprise. Sudou is very kinky by touching Kishi under the kotatsu with the little sister in the same room! And then, both getting naughty in said room while the siblings were sleeping upstairs XD Kishi is not behind, he too gets bold in the final chapter. I loved it!

Edit: the art is lovely.

Despite the title, this was a really sweet story.

Sudou and Kishi ended up being really cute together, despite a little bit of an awkward start. I enjoyed the interactions they had with Kishi's siblings and how Sudou ended up bonding with them. I really appreciate that the author didn't decide to add much angst. I also enjoyed the art style.

CW: Dubious consent, Threats of rape

I'm a bit conflicted with my thoughts on this one. It's a bully romance between two college classmates. One is constantly putting the other down, but there's love under the surface. Some of the language in this one bothered me a little. I can enjoy a bully romance, but I wish there was a bit more groveling involved with this one.
The art is super pretty, though, and I'd like to read more from this creator. Your mileage may vary, but if it intrigues you, you may like it.

This rubbed me the wrong way(!)… one of the characters look like he was a kid most of the times. The other one was pushy like hell and I can’t fathom why the other “fell” for him. They had absolute zero chemistry. The “story” consisted mostly of a bunch of irku dubcon smex scenes and little to no actual story. The. The manga just sort of ended & it made no sense. The characters were very flat (even if the little sister was adorable) and overall this one was just such a mess.

I guess the art was the best thing with it…

The art was really nice, but the story was very unorganised and strange, and the characters felt all over the place in terms of personality.
The “mind if I rape you?” line was absolutely unnecessary and disgusting. I hated the fact that Kishi says no and stop multiple times without it ever being listened to. I have no idea how the two main characters ever got in a relationship, there was no set up for it at all. Also the title makes no sense.

Spice score: 3
It has a couple of vanilla, graphic, steamy scenes.

Though there are some TW themes I really enjoyed reading this. My favorite trope in BL is the tough guy who's soft on their timid uke. The story did leave out some plot points about the characters backstory that I feel would have explained a few things especially why the title is what it is. Otherwise a good BL read!
