I absolutely love the Samantha Moon series. I've been hooked since the first book. I love the way J. R Rain portrays the characters. They all have sincerely grown on me and with me. I've learned a lot from J. R. Rain and the ones he writes with that causes me as an author myself to grow more into my writing.
This one of the longest, if not the longest, book series that I have been reading and still enjoyed after 20+ books. Most of the books have been okay, hovering around or above the three star mark, a few four star ones and a single two star one.
What I like with this book series is that it stays with it’s feet, or maybe it is Samantha’s feet, firmly planted in the ground. Even after 24 books the author doesn’t try to overdo it by just piling on sensation, ubermonsters, Gods, alternate dimensions etc…
Well, that last one is not entirely true. The story did go somewhat downhill with zapping between dimensions and crap around book 20. Not surprisingly book 20 is the one that got a two star rating from me.
Samantha is really a soccer mon, or was at least, and a private investigator. She is somewhat mundane actually but I really like her personality, her friends and the author is really making a good job of taking this somewhat ordinary person, if you forget that she is a vampire of course, and churning out books that makes me want to continue reading.
As I mentioned this is not the best one in the series. Still a good three stars though. I didn’t really like this trickster story. It was just way too weird and the book tried way too much to make him good and bad at the same time.
This part of the story with the famous sword, which name shall not be mentioned or the God of spoilers will descend upon me, was just annoying as well. First, using that sword in the story was borderline too far out for my taste and then, just when you got used to the idea of her wielding this sword…, well that’s also too much of a spoiler but let’s say it was a What the f…? moment in capital letters when I read it.
Anyway, decent enough book in the series which I enjoyed reading.
Sam, Kingsley and Allison head to Cornwall, England to find the sword Excalibur for her. Because she needs a magical sword to replace The Devil Killer she gave back to the angels.
Once back home, Sam is forced to take on a missing persons case or L.A. will suffer a very unusual cold spell. Her solution is very appropriate.
It’s refreshing to have the story move out of S.F. and into another country, even for a little while. Adds some new background and situations. Plus, I love the King Arthur connection.
Fave scenes: Nimue closing the doorway, Sam communicating with Excalibur, Sam stopping the accident and Sam & the Fairy Queen.
Samantha Moon and gang is back is back. Samantha has give up the Devil Killer and now she is looking for a new sword. She find Excalibur. Now Jack Frost has come to Orange County. He want Samantha to find his love or he will destroy Orange County. Can she find her? Great story.
l really enjoyed the story , its good to read a full book other than a short story .I've read all the moon books and loved all the suspense and fun in them . less short stories and more full books please ....
This is an interesting tale of Sam's adventures. She gains Excalibur, meets a The Lady of the Lake, Low Angeles has a blizzard and she takes on Jack Frost. Pretty exciting. And she gets the love of his life back.
As always a straight but twisted story line for our beloved Sam. The only negative thing i can say is that there are a couple of big continuity issues.
This book is a continuation of the strange adventures and thought to be fairytale creatures. It's simple with a continuous flow, but lacks the interaction of characters that previous stories captivated your attention so boldly.
Sam is missing her her devil killer after receiving a phone call. She decides to investigate Excalibur myth. Turns out it is not much of a myth and she is deemed worth. Sam also has an interesting client that comes in looking for someone. Sam can't believe just who it is and what he wants. Sam will have some interesting decides to make. Sam is never one to back down from a challenge.
This was a fun and interesting read. It is good to that this book is more back to the old Samantha Moon series. I really enjoy my time with with Sam and the gang, can't wait for the next book
